Despite receiving an email and text confirming a tech would arrive today, my 2nd week with Smith's, to check the mole traps, no one arrived. I called the phone number a little after 4:30PM. I left a voicemail and never heard back. DO NOT CHARGE MY CC today. I hired Smith's three years ago, and had the same issue week 2 that I'm having now. In fact, Smith's techs damaged my drip system numerous times, causing plants to die. Techs didn't show up numerous times, or showed up unannounced doing the wrong things. I figured things had to have improved in three years and gave Smith's another chance. Unfortunately, it appears as if being responsible and accountable in terms of visits, no shows and getting a hold of someone at Smith's has not changed a bit. They deserve a rating of 0, but I can't submit my review without selecting at least one star. read more

Highly disappointed with Smith's does not even begin to describe how I am feeling. Initially I was very impressed by the five star reviews, 20 years in business, and the owner's responsiveness on Yelp. I wanted to support a local family owned business. Zach Smith says what sets him apart is his expertise and integrity. Smith's seemed like a good option at the time. I clearly made a mistake in choosing them. My 93 year old grandparents' backyard had a rat problem. Smith claims this to be one of their specialties. Things seemed to be fine after the consultation and set up. There was absolutely no follow up! See the photos to see the type of service they were given for $175/month! I feel they clearly took advantage of an elderly client. The rat stations were clearly not maintained at all. Spiderwebs can even be seen in them! It's more like they left overpriced flower pots than setting any working traps! Did they even catch any rats? Smiths Pest control diagnosed my gopher problem and within a few months the gophers were gone and have never come back. A few years ago we had a terrible rat problem. Smiths came out and told us how to fix the spots they were getting into our home. The downside is they were not able to go up on our roof to see if there was a way they were getting into our through the roof. They also only put bait on the outside of the house inside of a black box so animals other than rodents wouldn't get poisoned. They were able to catch a few rats around the perimeter of our home but the rat infestation in our house continued. There were rats everywhere throughout our attic and in our heater vents and one ate its way through our bedroom ceiling. Finally we had to take things into our hands and put poison attic. The rats died in the walls and attic and stank to high heaven. We ended up having to pay $14,000 to have the kitchen rewired and the ductwork replaced. We still have them come to our home every few weeks to check for rats around the perimeter of the house. We never want to have that problem again. The Smith guys are personable and great with our dogs. I just wish they could have helped us when the infestation was so bad. read more

This is the email I wrote to them yesterday: "Your tech Jared was out this morning at our house. He said he did not see any rats and the traps were empty. The duct guys were out here this same afternoon and sent me this picture of a dead rat in the mech room. The picture is attached. The rat has been there for days and it stinks. There is no way Jared should have missed this. He clearly did not bother to check that space even though he verbally told us he checked it. And this is the second time he claimed there were no rats and when there was dead one in the mech room. We expect to be refunded for today's visit. If not refunded on Monday, I will call the credit card company and dispute the charge. I called Rebecca afternoon to discuss the issue and you left me on hold and hung up. Your company's customer service is horrible - both service visits and in the office and certainly not up to the standard you claim to hold. Thus, I am also letting you know that we are canceling our monthly service effective immediately. This email serves as written notice." Yes - twice their tech told us in a written report and verbally that he checked everything and the mech rooms had no rats and was wrong. We live next to a preserve and there are pests around which is why we signed up for regular service. This happened literally the same day Smith's tech was out. Either he lied or is incompetent but either way, a waste of money. There are other choices out there that can do better than this company. read more

I wanted to add a further update. Smith seemed to really listen to the complaints and took ACTION on them. Pretty rare. We now receive automated calls a day prior to service. Katie, our awesome team member texts an approximate ETA and always arrives within that window. Smith's has also been reaching out with follow up calls ... luckily I've only had positive experiences lately. Regarding our new technician- they should clone her, give her a raise, but please keep her on our account! She is an excellent ambassador for Smith's brand - courteous, respectful of our property and quick to educate us about the "rent-free residents" on our property. She also goes about her work despite weather conditions or hours. She's always thorough and doesn't rush. Rarely do you see a company turn around from "zero to hero" - but Smith's, and specifically Katie, have accomplished this. .I would be confident recommending to others now. read more

Grateful for Mike's resilience dealing with a very complex rodent problem in my house. Mike did not give up depite the issue taking weeks to remedy. He came back multiple times each week to try to resolve the issue in creative ways given some of his usual tools/tricks would not work in my house since I have house cats that could be injured by the traps. Mike found and sealed up exterior entry points that were not discovered by another vendor and eventually caught and disposed of the rodents that were trapped in the house and crawl space. I am grateful for Mike being patient with my pet requirements. We used Smiths many years ago and it was a great experience. About 14 months ago we hired them again for a cleanout and it was a total disaster. The first guy who came and set up traps missed many places where we had mole hills even after I showed him where to put the traps in our front and back yard. We were supposed to have him come back a week later to check the traps, but he never came. In fact, weeks went by and no one came to check the traps. I called the office multiple times and they told me they had some staffing issues. Finally, on a Tuesday they told me someone would come and check the traps that coming Thursday, so I planned to be home on Thursday for the guy to arrive so I could let him into the back yard. The next day, Wednesday, out of nowhere, I saw on my ring doorbell that someone was at the door - it was their trapper leaving a note for me after checking the front yard traps. They were a day early, and hadn't checked the backyard traps. I told the trapper to check the back yard, and that many spots were missed. He agreed that our first trapper missed a lot of spots and set new traps. I asked the new trapper to come back in a week to check the traps and he said he would put me on the schedule for the following week. Two days later he shows up again to check the traps. He was as confused about this as I was - he said that the office had scheduled him to come and that we were on his route. No calls, no advance warning, and why on earth do I need someone coming every other day to check the traps? I called the office and they promised that they would wait 2 weeks to send someone back. Then they sent me a bill for the balance due on my cleanout, even though I had several visits left on the cleanout service. 2 weeks later, no one came. A few months went by and no one came to check the traps. Of course, out of nowhere, at least 3 months after the 2nd trapper had come the 2nd time, a third guy comes with no warning, no call, and just starts looking at traps in my front yard. Again, he was leaving a note when I realized he was there and asked him to check the backyard traps. That was over 7 months ago! Now, over a year later, we still have their traps and little blue flags in our yard and no one has been here or called us and we've had their traps in our yard this whole time, when the service we purchased was a cleanout service that should have taken 4-6 weeks with someone coming weekly to check the traps. All this to say, their scheduling and office management was a total mess, and they handled our job in a negligent and unprofessional way. We obviously aren't going to pay for the balance of our service, and are removing the traps and flags ourselves since their company clearly lost track of us and our account. Reading the reviews here, it seems like the owner has stepped back in and hopefully is improving their utterly dismal organization. I wish him a lot of luck! read more

So we have been using Smith pest management for gopher and vole control for a while. They have been excellent. But we recently started seeing mice droppings in our basement and attic. They sent out Mike to help. Mike's service is OUTSTANDING. He came and walked around the house to see where the mice may be getting in from and then set traps in the attic and basement. Mike came to our house every two days to check the traps and add more where needed. We have caught a couple. Mike was checking in regularly to see how the traps were doing. We requested service from S.ith's because creatures have been digging holes in our front and back lawns for at least a year. I arranged for an appointment and was surprised to find a $750 charge on my credit card. At no time before the service was I told of the fee. I was also not told until the end that that fee was for five visits regardless of whether anything was caught.Someone came within a week or two of my first call, left his shovel in the front yard and found no pests. After no visits for a month I asked what the schedule was, told them about the shovel and they arranged a visit within a week. I don't know where and how they were looking in subsequent visits but on the 5th visit they trapped a mole. There t and last visit they took the traps away. That was my $750. There are now mounds of mole digging all over my backyard and some in the front. Not their problem. Anyone have suggestions for a different service that will complete the job? read more

Smith's management got in touch with me and asked for the chance to provide gopher trapping/elimination services. It has now been 3 months and they have done an excellent job providing services. I have honestly not been in touch with their customer service and can't say whether this has also improved. Smith's Gopher Trapping Service - and Felipe - pulled over 15 gophers out of my yard (they reproduced because they were well fed on my rootless plants, yay.) We had tunnels 2.5 feet below the ground. We had gophers in the raised beds. We had gophers tunneling through the landscape cloth. We had gophers in all four corners of our yard. Smith's did an amazing job of getting rid of them even though it was truly a plague of gophers... more and more and more gophers. Customer service was excellent, back office was well organized, Georgia was great and super responsive to "help! we have another one or two!" and Felipe was very crafty at getting even the biggest and most evasive of the brood. Don't do what we did - wait for your cat, who appreciates foraging for wild-caught food, to get them all. They multiply faster than a cat can keep up. Call Smith's instead. You'll be really thankful you did. And you will actually have mature plants in your yard, instead of all new ones like us. read more
