Round the corner and to the back is the pool table room where I've enjoyed beating my good friend on many occasions. They have seating to the front and in a small garden to the back, plus a small car park. It's a nice tidy pub, with friendly staff and fairly good beer. Don't remember it ever going quiet when I, a stranger, walked in.

The area outside, at the immediate rear, has been decked and covered over and the car park has been improved immensly. There is a childrens play area and it is very evident that this is a family friendly pub. The food is from a well balanced, unpretentious and reasonably priced menu and is always spot on. It's hard to resist a delicious beef baguette with gravy and real chunky home made chips! As well as providing a great place to drink and eat, The Flying Ferret is making a difference in Shelley as a place to meet and is doing great fund raising for various local charities. With eight real ales to choose from it is a beer drinkers paradise. Lots of other drinks to choose from also. The food we had was excellent. I had the fish and chips and it was as good as any I have ever tasted. The room was nice and the owners were very friendly. Everything was topped off the next morning with a perfect full English breakfast. Will definitely use again. Would make a great base camp for hill walking round the local area.

We were offered two options for food, a bar menu, or a full menu. Both had plenty of choice, but I have to say the starter of Black Pudding with sliced apple was amazing, and the fish and chips on the full menu, probably rates as the one of the best we have ever had. Make sure you go there on an empty tum! Would highly recommend this place to anyone, excellent food and beer, both at very good prices too.
