Combination white meat plate with slaw and potato salad.

My family and I have been here a lot since they opened. We decided to go through the drive thru on the way home and pick up dinner for us and the kids. The kids meals were right but my combination white meat plate was lacking. There was maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup of barbecue on the plate and it was wet and soggy and full of fat. This isn't the first time this has happened and for a $10 plate you'd expect more than this. I actually got more hush puppies than my barbecue and either side.

Pretty high quality chicken for a fast food style restaurant. The staff is extremely friendly which makes you feel right at home. The potato salad was my favorite side between the cole slaw and hush puppies. Overall, the restaurant is nicer than we expected when finding it on yelp.

Nice people, good hush puppies and SWEET tea. This chain, fast BBQ serves mushy flavorless slow cooker pork roast with a little bit of spicy NC vinegar sauce on it. Coleslaw has a ton of liquid. Portions are generous but flavors don't make a visit worth it. read more

We were regular customers at the Hwy 42 store, and were happy to find one just over yonder when we moved to our new home in Goldsboro last week. Hot, tired, cranky and hungry, it was great to get the next best thing to home cookin'! Smithfield's serves up fresh, crispy fried chicken, hush puppies, pulled pork, Brunswick Stew, potato salad, baked beans - all the best southern homestyle for a reasonable price. There's a plate or a family sized-box sure to cure your hungries, and it tastes like your mama's or grandma's best Sunday dinner. Customer service is outstanding, and they'll make you feel like family at every visit. I've never had a bad experience anytime, anywhere - they'll meet your standards no matter which store you walk into. If you're having a party, unexpected company, having a bad day and need comfort food, or are just too tired to cook, Smithfield's Chicken and 'cue can take care of you. I highly recommend the Tailgate Special with Bar-B-Q; it feeds the four of us with plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day. Their pulled pork is Carolina classic, and so is the Brunswick Stew. It was my 3rd time trying Smithfields. Each was at a different location. Cold this last. And so was the 1st order that was completely wrong. Even before I ordered I very politely stated to the lady behind the counter, she asked so fast the 1st time, I said "pardon me, could you say that a little slower please?" i here her ask, what did I want...I happily answered, This was my 3rd time trying Smithfield's and I really hope this is a better location. With a smile of honesty. I ordered pulled bbq thinking and hoping it was pork. Sat down it was chicken. The menu to me was a little confusing but thought it meant bbq pork. Not only was I willing to eat the pulled chicken, It was cold. I said sorry, may I get pulled pork. They agreed and served me Cold pork- not pulled covered in this sauce that was mostly vinegar. Cold fries. Wife has chicken type boneless nuggets, cold fries Chicken ok but warm. Sweet tea was a ton of sugar every location. Sorry if you think it good. read more

Passed by a great looking Smithfield's chicken and barbecue and decided to stop and try it. Great looking modern fast food building, disappointed they only seem to have one type of barbecue plate but we gave it a try.It looks like pulled pork but tasted like some kind of pork butt and boiled in salt water. It would rank up there with some of the worst barbecue I've ever had. Facilities were great, and the staff was very friendly. The food was terrible, maybe their fried chicken would've been OK. I don't suggest eating at this restaurant unless you're willing to try the fried chicken but definitely not the barbecue pork. read more

I'd never eaten at this franchise and thought I'd check it out. Much to my dismay, it was horrible!!! I ordered the bbq sandwich, which was cut up chicken that was drenched in grease and had red pepper flakes in it. I took one bite and threw the rest away. And for a medium soda, they filled the ENTIRE cup with chipped ice with very little soda at all. A complete waste of $10 and the one bite I did ingest made me sick. read more

Please always make sure you're cooking the chicken at the appropriate temperature 165, I got served raw chicken tonight. I live 15 mins away so I didn't realize until I got home & by that time they were closed. You could make someone very sick. I always check my chicken before digging In however others just go for it, had they had what I got tonight they could've gotten sick. Please make sure food is cooked throughly. Yes, I "ate the steak" as Judge Judy says and I did not expect a refund. But this establishment should have warned me of the size WHEN I ORDERED. I know that Smithfield's is considered a Quick Serve restaurant but putting it in that catagory doesn't really do it justice. I've travelled Eastern North Carolina from Charlotte to Raleigh to Atlantic Beach extensively and I tend to plan my route to insure that I can stop at a Smithfield's location for lunch. The Caroline style BBQ pork with cole slaw sandwich is my favorite, but I have tried the fried chicken and it is delicious as well. This Northerner now loves Carolina barbeque and I am plannig my next Carolina trip with a couple of stops at Smithfeild's again. read more

I absolutely enjoy this restaurant! I've eaten here several times in the past 5 months and I have yet to be disappointed. The customer service (drive-thru and dine-in) have been spectacular. The first time I ordered food from here, I had a longer-than-usual wait for my food and the cashier offered me a free beverage while I waited! Staff is friendly and anxious to serve in any way. Restaurant and bathrooms clean and well stocked. My husband had fried chicken plate with fries and Bruswick stew. I had barbecue chicken, fries and slaw. Nothing tasty on my plate, chicken tough and very small pieces. Husband says odd was not good and he doesn't want to go there anymore. Was passing through on my way to Raleigh and decided to stop. Coming in I couldn't help but notice how clean the restaurant looked. I was greeted nicely and then set down. They brought my order out and it was hot when it arrived. I had some awesome fried chicken and BBQ. Came with two sides plus hush puppies. I can't remember the last time I had hush puppies ;) Very pleased with this restaurant. Oh and the staff were beyond friendly. Probably typical for the southern region but something I'm not used to (currently reside in California). I look forward to my next visit. read more

Knightdale NC has the best food. I always stop there when I'm in the area but Thursday was the best. I had the combo wings and barbecue slaw and potato salad. I ate in and the service was perfect. Everyone in the fry area was working together. I enjoyed seeing the team work and the food was so good I ordered the same thing. After I returned home I wish I'd ordered 2 plates to go. I have eaten at several Smithfield's....Dunn, N.C., Goldsboro, N.C., Newton Grove, N.C. and a few others many times. Each one has been clean with noticeably nicer and more professional employees. Each one has had that same delicious barbecue and chicken 'RECIPES' that can not be beat!!!! I live very near two 'famous' barbecue restaurants, but will drive the extra 8 miles to eat Smithfield's every time that urge hits my barbeque expert mind! Memorize those tall signs and point the nose of your vehicle in that direction at lunch time and at dinner!! read more

We rarely go through Goldsboro these days, so it had been a long, long time since we had been to…read moreWilber's. Other than the prices and Wilber Shirley's absence, it really hadn't changed much in the past 20 years. The decor is "1960s eastern NC BBQ restaurant", which adds to the appeal. Service was friendly and attentive. Our drinks never went empty during our meal. The owner also stopped by to check on us as well. Our server brought us a small basket of hushpuppies, clearly just out of the fryer. While hot, the recipe had not changed over the years and were just as bland as always. Accompanying the hushpuppies was a small serving of some sort of sauce; it didn't had much flavor but I think it was supposed to be butter or at least buttery. My dining companion got the quarter-rack rib special. The ribs were meaty, very flavorful, and tender. They were good enough that the accompanying barbecue sauce really detracted from the ribs. The potato salad was as good as ever. The serving included 4 ribs for $12.50, which I thought was a very good value. I had my standard, the Pork Plate with slaw and potato salad. The serving of chopped pork was generous, but was too dry and over seasoned for my taste. The slaw was fine but unexceptional. The $12.56 price on the menu was a reasonable value, however after we paid we found out that we were charged $13.50. It turns out that the printed menus Wilber's provides in the restaurant don't reflect their latest prices on Toast. Our server did not mention anything about price discrepancies. The difference in prices doesn't seem like they are just rolling in the sales tax to the orders either. This is absolutely unacceptable and reflects a huge failure in judgement by the management and owner. Shame on you. All in all, our experience rates a four-star review. However, when taking the price discrepancies into account, Wilber's earns a 3-star review and that is generous. Restaurants need to accurately advertise their prices to their Customers, whether dining in or getting take out.

Grady's pork is amazing, especially topped with slaw and their Eastern NC sauce. The sides are incredible. The desserts look wonderful (have never been able to find room, but one of these days...). Prices are reasonable (but be warned: this is a cash-only place). If you're on the way to the beach, go to Grady's. If you're coming back from the beach, go to Grady's. If you're within 100 miles, go to Grady's. Heck, if you're anywhere on the East Coast, go to Grady's. It's that good!

I entered the building and despite the fact that I was standing near the register, the young lady never said hello or offered an explanation on why I waited 15 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge my presence. When I finally said my name is Mark and I placed a to go order, the response was, " Can't you see were busy.?" I said I understand that but I've been standing here for more than 15 minutes. I also mentioned that I did not want cold food. She grunted, went back to the kitchen, and brought me back my sack of food. When she came out with my bag of food, I opened the bag to check the order. She again grunted at me, "It's all there!" When I told her again I wanted to check the order, she screamed at me in front of her entire restaurant, "Get out of my restaurant!" When I explained to her that six of us usually come in on the weekend she told me she didn't care. If she truly does own this restaurant, she has the poorest business acumen I've ever met. We won't be back and neither will any of our friends. I've already personally phoned each of them and told them about the experience. BTW, the food was cold and undercooked.
