The Red Barn - Laura's famous seafood stew filled with lobster, shrimp and fish

The Red Barn is a legendary Augusta, Maine restaurant. A fixture in the community, if you will…read more They've been a part of the Augusta landscape for decades (since '77). What are they famous for you ask? Well, seafood...of course. Specifically, the lobster roll. My boyfriend loves the lobster roll! I had the popcorn chicken basket with crinkle fries that I could eat everyday if given the choice. The seasoning and breading are just right & fried until golden brown without sacrificing safe cooking or flavor. Another one of those busy places-it's a restaurant that attracts locals and tourists. They've always got inspirational quotes on their marquee. Outdoor patio seating (tables with umbrellas) and a no-frills, basic interior decor. Gives total seaside vibes.

They have the option for ordering takeout Ahead of time or online. There is significant outdoor seatting as well as a small interior dining room. The interior has one non gender handicap, accessible bathroom. The menu is not excessive, but the portions are generous. CAUTION: pay close attention to the prices. they will fluctuate and you should not assume what the final cost of your meal will be beforehand!! My clam basket and my daughter's 1/4lb roll (2 20 Oz drinks) totaled $65!! Now I will absolutely give credit to them for the clam portion being large and high quality. These were the type of onion rings that I prefer, which are thinner and more crunchy with less batter. That said, the total completely blew my mind.Because even with a very industry standard upcharge for onion rings in place of french fries.I had sticker shock. I grew up near Portland so I understand the price of seafood can change quickly. But I would say do some price shopping. Because this is more about the experience of the location since the quality of food does exist at other restaurants. In maine.

We were tired from traveling all day and just wanted some decent food to eat that was close to our hotel. This led us to decide to go to Texas Roadhouse. There was no wait when we arrived even though the place was pretty much full. Our server was prompt and effiecient. We ordered a burger with cheddar, medium rare, with a sweet potato, and a chicken fried steak with a side of corn and a side of beans. The burger was perfectly cooked and seasoned well. The chicken fried steak and sides were delicious. And the rolls and butter were fantastic. Prices are most reasonable and we very satisfied with the food and service. Plenty of parking.

Stayed overnight in Augusta and honestly there aren't a lot of good restaurants - it's a pretty sleepy town, so I went to Texas Roadhouse. They were busy but didn't have to wait for a table. Service was friendly, prompt, and efficient. The rolls came out hot with honey butter. I got a 14 oz ribeye steak with a Caesar salad and fries for $29.99. It wasn't Michelin dining but it was quite good, and after eating lobster multiple times per day during this four day Maine trip, a solid slab of beef really hit the spot. If I had to nitpick, the Caesar salad dressing could use a little more garlic and/or lemon as it tasted a little plain like just bland creaminess as opposed to a real caesar dressing but cmon I know this is a Texas Roadhouse, I'm not going to nitpick. Overall great experience. I doubt I'll be in Augusta again anytime soon, but if I was, I would go here again.

Usually it's pretty decent food here with some options for vegans…read more We usually get the veggie fajitas and/or the spicy avocado bowl (without the sauce) which is normally a very generous bowl with greens, veggies and quinoa but the last time they barely had a tablespoon of quinoa in it so we had to request it and then we were only brought one small serving despite two of us ordering it and both mentioning we didn't get any quinoa (btw, the quinoa is what makes the entire bowl so without it, it is just a salad and not even half as filling or delicious) so it was a bit of a long process to make the dish ready to enjoy. The servers are usually great. Coincidently the last one we had with the quinoa mishap had very little to no personality shining through and did not crack a smile the entire time so that was a little off putting but we still enjoyed our time there with some family. It's extremely difficult to hear anyone when the music is playing as it's honestly not set at a reasonable level and we avoid coming in the evenings as we like to sit in the bar area where it gets hella loud. Overall an ok place to grab a bite. It feels sticky and a little less than ideal clean a lot of the time so I wouldn't say it's anything to highly recommend but it'll do when you gotta have Mexican food and you're in the area.

The service was the largest (23 minutes to get nachos and quesadilla with "steak" ) leading component for us to not return. The food was called Mexican but queso is NOT sharp cheddar with a thinning agent-it was gritty, harsh flavor and lacked any resembler to Mexican Queso. The next disappointing factor was their attempt to salsa. Salsa does NOT have chili powder and red wine cheese twang without any peppers ( jalapeño or serano)--where was the cilantro? Clearly the furthest point inside the continental USA from Mexico, but please actually hire a consultant. Overall- service 2 stars ( sweet and nice waitress, but not attentive at all), food--2 stars: the components to make the food were there, but NO spices. We will not waste $60 again for two when the food is better at Taco Bell. This "restaurant " is a RUN TO THE BORDER and get real Mexican food. --BIG PASS!!!

We were visitng in the area and was so glad to see it and just had to go. We did not have reservations but the restaurant was able to accomodate us immediately even though the place was quite full. We chose the homemade hummus with feta and olives to start off. Fresh, delicous and a perfect start. For entrees we had the fresh baked haddock wrapped around a filling of crabmeat with roasted carrots and grilled zuccini. The fish was succulent and oh so melt in your mouth deliciousness. The sides were fantastic. The grilled flat iron steak was just a tad over the requested medium rare, but was tender and flavorful. The mashed potatoes and roasted carrots were the perfect accompaniments. All portions were generous. There was live music, subtle and soft, and it added to the enjoyment of our meal. Love the decor and the service was friendly and efficent. Parking can be a challenge but we found a spot across the street quite easily. We highly recommed and will return. Best to make a reservation in advance.
