I have seen this place a many of times, but have ever been until today. When we arrived there was no wait and we were greeted as soon as the staff began available. I will have to say, I was a little taken aback by some of the aesthetics of this location. Some of the menu monitors didn't work, the floor was slippery, and some areas of the restaurant were as clean as one would have thought with there being no others in the restaurant. I ordered a double bbq bacon burger with sweet potato fries. Everything came out pretty quickly and was hot! The burger was juicy and very filling. The star of the show tho - the sweet potato fries. Drink machine was out, menu was out, tap to pay was out, the nonslip mats are so unstable I almost slipped and fell from stepping on it once. That was also the greasiest burger and tots I've ever had. Messed up both burgers that were ordered. This place used to be good but has fallen off a cliff. I understand that operating a restaurant during the pandemic is/was a challenge. In fact I went to this restaurant once last year and left because at that time they were not allowing dining on the premises. Now it's 2021, dining restrictions have been lifted, and this business, while allowing on premises dining, is not operating in a customer friendly way. There is a good 6+ feet of distance between the customer and the employee at the order counter. Communication to place an order was difficult due to the distance, music, and general restaurant noise. Customers must walk to another blocked off area to pick up your order, which is in to go packaging, no matter if you are eating there or not. I ordered the double bacon burger. So this was actually my second time visiting this place ever. First time I tried a shake and it was ok. Went yesterday and tried the scorching crispy chicken sandwich. Service needs some improvement that's for sure. Took about 5 minutes or so for it to be ready. It was wrapped very plainly in the white paper , they could've done better with that. Also I wish it had more options on the bun types. The sandwich was just ok. The spice level wasn't scorching for me more like mild.It was in fact very crispy which i could use without . The owner or manager of this location should just close the doors. We have been here twice and both times the employees give the impression that working is the last thing they want to be doing. There is a hand written piece of paper on the door saying they now close at 8pm. We got there are 7:15 and most of the tables have the chairs stack on them so limited seating. The guy takes my order and I have to repeat everything twice because he isn't paying attention and during my order another employee comes up to talk to him. We sit down and my husband gets his burger and the girl who brings it out stands at the table with the basket and says double burger no hi hello just annoyed as can be and then proceeds to just dumped the tray on table. My burger doesn't come out until my husband it almost done. Apparently my odder got put in a bag to go. A family then comes in at 7:45 and she asks if it's too late to order. She looks at menu and starts to order a few things and then she can tell the guy just doesn't seem to care or is listening and the family then says forget it and leaves. The employees are just cleaning and sweeping up we couldn't even put our food in trash cans because it is overflowing. I won't be surprised when this place is closed. This should Have been my first red flag. Another of the high end Burger joints. Decent pricey burgers. In a nod to the no-carb crowd, you can order the burgers on a plate without a bun. You have to knife and fork them... but you still get the burger experience. Tried the Avocado Bacon Club. Ordered 2 patties, piled with slices of fresh avocado, bacon, lettuce, and tomato and dressed with ranch dressing and mayo. A good combo. All the ingredients are fresh, made to order and were tasty. Also tried the Spicy Baja. This one comes with slices of fresh jalapenos, guacamole, pepper jack, lettuce, tomato and onion, dressed with chipotle mayo. Another tasty combo. The star of this meal was the flash fried brussels sprouts. Medium sized sprouts are halved and deep fried. The outer layers get crispy, the centers still al dente. They're a little greasy (more so than if they'd been broiled) but are excellent. The tab for 2 with a pair of double patty burgers, 2 sides and 2 fountain drinks was $28, so not cheap for a couple of burgers. But, I didn't carb up and those sprouts were tasty.... When I entered there were multiple signs mentioning that they were short- staffed, so I totally understand. However my issue wasn't with the wait but the fact that I was completely ignored until the girl who went to take my order (younger african american girl) helped me out. There were two people in the kitchen laughing & joking who saw me and said nothing. Then two more people near the register making their milkshakes & they said nothing. Even a simple hi would have been nice. Also not to mention, one of the girls who was making her milkshake used a spoon to try some , reblended it, tasted it again with the same spoon, and then reblended it again. She didn't even wipe off or sanitize it before walking out the door. Despite the customer service, my food was fresh, hot & came out quickly. It tasted great! I'm going to keep this short and simple! I should've known from the moment we walked in the door. One of the employees wore a hoodie under their smash burger shirt with the hoodie over their head. The menus are so worn out and dirty they need to be replaced! But we ordered anyway. Ordered a classic smash double and bacon double with tater tots. After not too unreasonable of a wait it only took ONE bite!!! The grease was steadily dripping out of the burger and the burger was burnt!!! Tasted like charcoal! The tater tots sat in a pool of grease on the paper in the wire tray. Left the food on the table! We will never go back! I'd rather have a cold McDonalds burger over this. I completed my order online at 4:45 for an order pickup at 6 pm. I arrived at 6:05 only to find out at 5:50 my order was canceled because they were "too busy" to honor my order that was placed an hour ago! However, the cashiers are still accepting orders from people walking in? But they are closing early per a sign on the door, so they can "enjoy Halloween". Placed our order , 2 burgers on double one single . The single was plain ketchup only fries and onion rings plus 2 drinks $31.00 a little expensive for basically fast food . My first visit to Smashburger was the location in Durham, which was great. I had a BOGO coupon and was in Raleigh so thought I'd check this location out. The ordering process was strained as the cashier speaks very quietly. You'd think after my saying, excuse me, several times she'd catch on, but no. The food came up quick enough, but really was just so-so. The person who brought it looked like they might have a cold, which was concerning. Anyway, the bun was kind of dryed out and the turkey seemed undercooked and the onion straws not real crisp and kind of greasy. It was all kind of underwhelming. We were asked a few times if we were enjoying it, but sometimes it's better to just say yes than saying no. I think I'll stick to the Durham location, which is closer to home anyway. read more

We were starving after 7 hours in the various clinics at Duke and, after having eaten at Smashburgers on the West Coast, we thought it was a safe bet. Luckily, all we lost was the $25.37 we spent on what they called food! Out experience started when there was no one at the front counter and we had to go looking for someone to wait on us. And if we had gotten a dose of the stench from the young woman who finally came to the front before she got there, we wouldn't have stayed ... it was that BAD! I'll not embarrass her by using her name, but can't you tell your body odor has body odor? Ours was ticket 10017 at 2:03 pm on 1/23/19. The person bringing the food to the table grabbed my fork by the tines ... no gloves ... and the plate my burger was on was dirty. The owner, who came out and asked how everything was, said "maybe it's water spots." It wasn't, as you can see from the pictures! My wife's haystack onions were nothing but a glob and, when comparing to mine, looked like they came from two different places. We asked one of the employees about the differences and she said we shouldn't be concerned, as they were cooked correctly. Well, the owner said they weren't done properly -- see glob picture -- but blamed a new employee on not following cooking protocol! TEACH THEM! The owner said she appreciated our feedback and gave us a coupon for a FREE SIDE on our next visit, which will never happen! Stay away. Not sure how this place gets 3 1/2 . If there had been a 1/2 to give, that's what we would have given them. Not worth your time or money or the multiple trips to the for both of us just 2 hours later! So this is the first @SmashBurger in Raleigh, NC. I must say that I am a fan of the food. It is Fast Casual, not your fast food type of place. So don't expect a drive-thru here. The food is made fresh when you order, and you can custom tailor it to your liking. All of the food is high quality. The staff is nice, and the food is really tasty. I like the seasoning that they put on the fries. They do have many different options, including gluten free if your diet requires it. One thing that they have here as their local burger is a nice burger on a pretzel bun with chili, cheese, and coleslaw. I must say it is tasty. Now if only I could get it with Applewood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, and crispy onion strings. Everybody that works here takes pride in what they do, and the food they serve you. So here is what I have tried The Smashfries: They are shoe string fries tossed in Italian olive oil, rosemary, & garlic. They seasoning adds a nice flavor to the fries. Bonus, they don't charge you extra for the seasoning like Zinburger. Classic Smash: American cheese, Smash Sauce, ketchup, lettuce, tomato, pickles & onion on an egg bun. The Smash sauce adds a really nice flavor to the burger. BBQ, Bacon & Cheddar: BBQ sauce, applewood smoked bacon, cheddar & haystack onions on an egg bun.. You can't go wrong with a bacon cheeseburger. Well, you can, but they didn't here. I am glad they used real cheddar cheese instead of American cheese. Carolina Chili Burger: Beefy chili, American cheese, chopped yellow onion, Duke's Mayo & coleslaw on a pretzel bun. This was a really tasty burger. It is a little messy, but the messy burgers are the best. Truffle Mushroom Swiss: Truffle mayo, sautéed crimini mushrooms & aged Swiss on an egg bun. It has an interesting and unique flavor. Not for everybody, but you have to try it for yourself. Avocado Ranch Black Bean Burger: Fresh avocado, pepper jack, lettuce, tomato & ranch on a multi-grain bun. All vegetable, no meat "burger". For the vegetarians, or those trying to lose a little weight. Spinach, Cucumber, & Goat Cheese Chicken: Cucumbers, spinach, goat cheese, tomato, onion & balsamic vinaigrette on a multi-grain bun. An interesting thing, you can order this as a salad or a burger. Which is great if you are cutting out your carbs. Buffalo & Blue Cheese chicken: Frank's RedHot Buffalo Sauce, blue cheese crumbles, lettuce, tomato & mayo on an egg bun. The blue cheese on this burger is definitely fresh, and very aromatic I will say. That means, it has some kick when it hits your taste buds and nostrils. The chicken was cooked just right, and I like the hot sauce. Veggie Frites: Fresh green beans & carrot strips, flash fried. I honestly don't think everything should be fried (NC State Fair) but these taste pretty decent I must say. I have also tasted the Chocolate and Oreo Shakes. They were both very tasty. They serve them sort of old fashioned style, and give you the tin missing cup with the extra shake in it. I have to say, the price of the shake is cheaper than many other places that sell high end just mixed shakes with real ice-cream. I didn't get a chance to try the salad, but I have to go back for it. The salad is ginormous compared to other salads that you get from Wendy's or other places. When I saw them with a salad, I was like, it's so huge. It was only $5.99. That is cheaper than Wendy's and other places, and it looks like two of their salads. Full disclaimer, it might be an optical illusion with the odd bowl shape, but it is still cheaper than other places. Overall, I would say, this is a new burger place in Raleigh, and they will be able to compete with BurgerFi, Elevation Burger, Five Guys and the rest of them, as they are high quality. Yet another "fast casual" burger chain with a bit of a gimmick (a "smashing" technique for the burgers), a special sauce, Artisan Buns, Foo/Foo toppings, Veggie Frites, and of course, Sweet Potato Fries - this one is a bit more over the top than most, as to its cooking technique, if nothing else. This particular chain was founded in Denver in 2007, and now has 380 locations, many of which are franchise operations, as is this one. The menu is not especially broad, centered on burgers (specialty & BYO), chicken sandwiches, salads, a small variety of sides, including sweet potato fries, fried onions, fried mild green chilies, fried pickles, and milk shakes. Each location offers a localized or regional burger - here it is a "Carolina Chili Smash". Smashburger advertises that its burgers are "handcrafted", using fresh, never frozen 100% Certified Angus Beef - that are then smashed, seared, & seasoned to order. The "smashing" technique consists of placing a mound of the fresh, never frozen beef on a flat top grill heated to 385 degrees (the website assures me that IS HOT), smashing the mound flat on the grill with an tool that looks like a 19th century iron with a top mounted handle, and leaving the tool on the beef for EXACTLY 10 seconds - no more, no less, says so on the website. The "searing" process continues until the burger is as ordered, then seasoned, and dressed on the Artisan bun of choice - Egg, Multi-grain, Chipotle, or in the case of the Carolina Chili Smash, a tasty Pretzel Bun - nom nom! But, enough levity - lets talk about the burgers, and fries, and such. We tried the Carolina Chili Smash for $6.59, but switched out the Pretzel Bun for an Egg Bun, whatever the hell that is. We also ordered a Classic Smash ($5.29), Smash Fries (EVOO, Rosemary, & Garlic) for $2.19, and a Regular Fries at $1.99. The Classic Smash is not at all a bad burger, though the nice outside crust that should happen with the "smashing" technique, was MIA, and the sauce ( a mixture of mayo, mustard, pickle juice, and a bit more) is much like that found at Freddy's or In-N-Out Burger, decent but no skyrockets. The Carolina Chili Smash was awful, solely due to the chili - it tasted liked a canned Hormel product that was seriously out of date. Both orders of FFs were excellent - these are shoestring style fries that are well cooked, and well seasoned. Service was pleasant, efficient, but in truth it was very early in the day. Bottom line - there is some decent food here if the right choices are made, and it is not a terrible choice if location is an issue, BUT there is nothing new here, there is nothing unique here. If you really want an exceptional burger coming from a smash burger approach that has been around since 1946, head to Johnson's Drive In in Siler City, and let Claxton Johnson make you a cheeseburger to remember for just $4.05. read more

I've ordered 4 times through Grubhub and the burgers have been fantastic each time. Hot, cooked perfectly, loaded with bacon, bun not soggy. Just great. Mushroom burger, Colorado, black bean burger, and bacon double cheeseburger. All were great. Was at this location a few years ago. My son decided to take us out for lunch on Friday we ended up here. Noticed the menu had changed a bit smaller not as much options as before. My burger was way thin and did not taste as expected definitely down sized quality of the food. My son frequently goes there with his friends and noticed that as well. Our order came out in parts, so we waited for everything to come out to start eating as we do every time. Though the staff was friendly and attentive, but we where not satisfied with the food quality. Leaving my husband noticed the health score of 92 :( I'm not sure we will return read more

I really wanted to try Smashburger before leaving LA, but I never got around to it. I was downright ecstatic when I heard that not one, but two locations were going to open in the Triangle area. Now, both locations are rather inconvenient for me, but omg Smashburger! Smashburger centers around the idea that the patty of a burger should be well-seasoned. They accomplish this perfect level of seasoning by smashing the patty and then using their lovely seasoning blend. I've had the privilege of trying most menu items, and my favorite is the Truffle Mushroom Swiss Burger - truffle mayo, sauteed crimini mushrooms, and Swiss cheese. "Truffle oil can make doo doo taste good." - Lil Jon. While I don't quite have Lil Jon's experience with doo doo, I am a big fan of the taste of truffle oil. Mushrooms and Swiss make any burger awesome, and the truffle oil takes the burger over the top. Burger patty sizes are comparable to Five Guys', possibly smaller than Char-Grill's, and probably about 3-4 times the size of BurgerFi's. The chicken is as formidable as the burgers, and the salads are absolutely huge. Smashburger has many quality sides to go with their quality burgers. Their Smashfries are fried in olive oil and rosemary. My favorite, however, has to be their buffalo fries. They are tossed in Frank's Red Hot in seasoning form and served with ranch dressing. These are tasty, and worthy of the "buffalo" name, but probably not worthy of the upcharge over regular Smashfries. Tastes differ. Still, I'm disappointed in my fellow Yelpers for their low ratings of this place. Smashburger is very good, and I'd highly recommend everybody to try it for themselves. If this place were either closer to me, or had slightly lower prices, then I'd probably weigh 500 pounds by now. Smashburger rules the higher priced, no-waiter-service tier of burgers. I also loved the chili fries. I had never had them before anywhere and these were just so tasty, I couldn't stop eating them. Lastly the shakes were also heavenly. The cookies and cream, and the caramel and salt were hands down favorites of mine. All in all I love this new restaurant. The prices are so reasonable, the staff is friendly and the restaurant is sparkly clean (it's new). This was my family's first visit today, and everything was delicious! So much flavor, you could tell the kitchen put work into the food. We are from Virginia and we wish we had one of these up here. But mostly the lady running the front was so sweet and wow you could tell she works hard, she was taking orders running food to tables with a smile. You could tell she cared about her job and knowing the menu, because she was recommending burgers/items being we were unsure of what to order being that it was our first time.
