I had a great burger from a different Smash burger and so did my colleagues at work so when it was suggested 6 of us opted for Smash burger. 3 of our burgers were so burnt we couldn't eat them. And the fries must have been packaged first because they were cold and soggy. 1 avocado burgers had no avocados and overcooked. The las 2 were said to have no taste. I love the avocado bacon ranch chicken sandwich. It's full of flavor. The wait can be a little bit bothersome. I had the worst customer service ever. Me and my grandma went here to get something for my little sister who was home. I didn't get the young lady's name who helped us but she was extremely nasty when it came to ordering my little sister's meal. After my grandma ordered her food, I ordered my sister's food and she asked how old I was. The workers turned and looked at her in shock. I begin to laugh as it took me completely by surprise. This is when my grandma explains that it was for my little sister who is under the age of 12 and was just at home waiting. I work at a near by company, we all ordered, approximately 120 dollars in burgers and fries. Burgers were very small, I got a double burger and my 8 year old could have eaten it in 2 bites. Was cruising along the way on New Years 2018 when I ran into Smashburger. I cannot tell you how many times I drove by this place. My first impression was that they only serve meat. So anyway, decided to finally go inside, and to my surprise, they do serve bean burgers. So if you are not fond of meat, it's worth checking out. I ordered the bean burger, but they ran out. I was compensated with sweet potato fries, which was the choice I selected (they give you the option). Update: Dropped from 5-2 stars, because I got home only to realize that the wrong order was given to me. It was a bit of a miscommunication, but it wasnt the best transaction. I was highly annoyed, seeing that I got home all ready to eat, only to realize that there was a salad with bacon instead of my actual order. To say the least I was livid. Stopped by Smashburger after going to my friend's wedding in Glen Ridge NJ, and since her reception had a 2 hour gap, we decided to get a few burgers and shakes and ruin our cocktail hour! I got the NEW JERSEY style Smashburger which included applewood bacon extra crispy, grilled onions, haystack onions, lettuce, mayo, tomato (which I omitted) dont like tomatoes. I also took out blue cheese crumbles which was included in this burger and replaced it with cheddar cheese. DELICIOUS! Also had vanilla milkshake with oreo crumbles! It was worth it. Burger was juicy and flavorful. Staff was super nice and delivered the food to our table. They give you a number so they know exactly who to give the food to. Bathroom was unbelievably clean. My go-to order here is the New Jersey burger and the Hagen Daz vanilla shake. Unlike Five Guys, you can actually get a shake at these burger joints. To me, I don't know how you get away with NOT serving shakes with burgers. Isn't that like serving donuts without coffee? Anyway, I digress ... Normally, I like my burgers thick, juicy and medium rare, but somehow Smashburger has won my heart with the their thin, pressed, yet still juicy, well done burgers. The New Jersey burger is my favorite. I love the combination of fried onions and bleu cheese. I also love that they bring your food to you here and don't make you wait in line after you order. I had gone to this spot a few years ago more often when they first came to Glenridge, but over the last couple of years the quality and cleanliness has been on the decline. Went there this evening after 9pm thinking since it was raining and pass the dinner rush; grabbing the classic meal to go should be seamless. Well clearly that was asking for to much. After reaching home, I realized that I was given the wrong meal. This meal had many of the extras that I would want on my burger, but was not going to go back at this hour. I called to let them know I'd received the wrong order and Reggie the manager apologized and offered to replace the meal the next time I am in. I got a called an hour later from one of the workers asking me if I got my food already because a Uber driver was there for my food. He finished it and ordered a Classic Smash $5.99 but with chicken instead. And he ordered some Sweet Potato fries $2.29 for me which were very yummy; They were a good size cut. My brother had the NEW JERSEY $7.29; Applewood-smoked bacon, blue cheese, grilled onions, haystack onions, lettuce, tomato and mayo on an onion bun; with Smash fries $2.19 on the side. My cousin had the ALL AMERICAN CHEESEBURGER $5.29; American cheese, yellow mustard, ketchup, pickles and onion on an egg bun; with a side of french fries $1.99. Their french fries aren't as good as the Smash fries. This review has undergone a total makeover thanks to my second Smashburger experience in Parsippany. I had been very excited for my first Smashburger experience, but was left underwhelmed at the end, at least for that time. The main complaint I have is that you pay a lot for what you get. A dollar's worth of avocado was three thin slices. (VERY thin.) 2 dollars' worth of onion shavings was a lump of about 1/8 of an onion. The free toppings were similarly meager. So I think that can be improved. In the future, rather than get the haystack onions as a side, where they sort of coalesced in a pile of lukewarm butter/grease, I've found that they work great as a topping on the burger itself. Also, the Smash sauce is somewhat too salty for my tastes, so I would change that up with some of their other offerings now that I know that. The patty itself, and the other toppings, definitely are neither salty nor greasy - my initial "greasy" impression was actually because I wasn't used to the Smashburger texture. Now that I know what to expect, I realize that I had been mistaken in my initial review, and I totally own up to that. Overall, Five Guys definitely gives you more stuff for your money, and I like the Five Guys fries more. (That's just personal preference - I like a thick cut, as opposed to a thin cut. Your mileage may vary, and I'm not going to dock them for that.) On the other hand, Smashburger lets you customize your burger with more upscale toppings than Five Guys offers. It's a different taste, entirely, and up to your preference. I've gone from "never going back again" to "wow, if I order the right burger, this is heaven in my mouth." My 3rd time going here and my 2nd time being disappointed . After not eating anything all day I and being in the area decided to try it once more. I got their triple double which is a double cheeseburger with three slices of cheese and a large fries. The moment she handed me the bag I knew what was going to happen. If you've ever gotten a double quarter pounder from Mcdonald's or a Dave's double from Wendy's , you know what a heft burger feels like . Anyway, I get home take it out and I'm like....WTF? It's not much bigger than a regular burger . I swear it seemed like they took one patty and split it to make 2 . Now on to taste..Honestly can't tell you much about it ..it came slathered in this sauce that overpowered almost everything else expect the pickles . If I had known it would come with all that on it I would've told them to hold it . The bread , the toppings , the cheese and worst of all the meat were all irrelevant because of this gook they put on it . The fries were okay , came out hot and crispy and had good flavor ... My co-worker and I stopped in because we happened to being working in the area. I gave him the option of Panera Bread which was directly across the parking lot or Smashburger. We were 8th in line when we walked in and they only had one register open. The line moved slow. I ordered the classic Smashburger (beef) combo with the regular French Fries and my co-worker ordered the New Jersey Classic Combo (Beef) with regular French Fries. We placed our order and sat down at a table which is how the system works. We only waited a few minutes before they delivered our meals. I was disappointed with the size of the burger and bun. The French Fries portion was ok and they were seasoned nicely. It didn't take many bites to finish up the burger which I considered to be small. Compared to the competition, Smashburger has some catching up to do. Here is the worst part. Within an hour or so, I had an upset stomach and became ill. I'll spare you the details but luckily I had made it back to the office and had access to a bathroom. I realize its a strong accusation to make but there was nothing else I ate before or after that meal that would have made my body react that way. I can't point to anything else that got me sick. Another awful experience with SB Glen Ridge. Haven't been in awhile bc service is always a challenge in this location. Today took the cake and I will not return. Placed an order for a simple burger and sweet potato fries. After waiting more than 15 mins, they told me my order disappeared from the board and they had to make it all over again. With no time to wait another 10-15 mins, I asked for a refund and waited for someone to come to the register. I was given a refund with no apology or any attempt to even make it right. This is a pricey burger place but we love it, so whatever! Whenever we are home, we stop in this Smashburger. There is one not too far from us in Charlotte, NC but stopping in whenever we come home to NJ just makes it special. I always get the spinach and goat cheese salad...it's really very good. On one occasion, my co-worker and I went to pick up lunch. The girl behind the counter was just beyond rude and unwelcoming. The attitude she gave was like she did not want to serve customers. I usually only make reviews for chain restaurants if a certain location leaves an impression on me and for this particular one, not so good. I've been going to this one for years - since I was in high school - and the burgers are always much more flavorful compared to other Smashburgers (weird I know but I can definitely taste the difference). It's so greasy but ughhh yum. They get 3 stars because of the bad service. Throughout multiple visits I get my food slow and they're just so whatever about everything/catch attitudes. One time the woman at the register tried to tell me what I ordered and when i kept saying she was incorrect she insisted i was wrong, to which I responded "it's on the receipt". She rolled her eyes. Today I walk in and there's literally no one there except for a couple and their kids. But at that point they already got their food. I walk up to the counter and the woman asks for a minute and I wind up waiting 5 minutes to order. We go to smashburger at 7pm. They had one side closed off. I have no idea why since they close at 10. They had dirty tables that werr not cleaned off for the 30 minutes we were there. (See pictures) the only way we got a table was by cleaning it ourselves. They accidently gave our order to the wrong table. When the people next to us finally waived down an employee she tried giving us the food from their table..at that point it was cold and frankly been passed around a bit too much for our liking. The guy next to us got a free milkshake for his troubles. Not sure what happened there. Did i mention. The rips in the couch? See picture.
