There used to be a male manager at this location that was really trying to change the reputation of this crap hole location. But he's since been replaced by an unkept woman with an attitude of an ogre. My question for Popeyes corporate is- Who got drunk and made Alicia of the Montclair location a manager? She looks unclean, is frequently smoking, has an unpleasant attitude, is unprofessional in both her appearance and her demeanor. She does not seek to understand her customers concerns, she just takes the side of her staff, defends their poor behavior and makes the situation worse. She will brag to you that she owns 6 locations and boast about being a general manager, but with all that success she's still in the back working the fryer and doesn't have enough pride to clean all the dirt out from under her nails, or pop in a breath mint before talking to customers after sitting on the parking lot wall outside and smoking like puff the magic dragon outside. Based on her and her staffs appearance alone you'll want to reconsider the cleanliness of the food since they're the ones making it. If you think I'm exaggerating- go there and see/witness it for yourself! Just a no across the board. An F. A negative zero. The Apple doesn't fall far from the tree because this location has zero class, no decorum, no customer service, zero cleanliness- and Alicia and her staff bring the rating down even lower to a negative zero & minus F. Nobody smiles, nobody greets you, everyone looks like they have a chip on their shoulder that they will take out on you. A young lady there with the nose ring and braids is a nightmare, always angry and moody and clearly should not be in customer service. If you're craving Popeyes, drive to Bloomfield instead. You'll experience a HUGE difference not only in the cleanliness of the location, and the cleanliness of the staff, but also a MAJOR difference in customer service. And you won't need to pay for parking and spend your hard earned money just to deal with these miserable individuals! read more

2ND VISIT REVIEW: Yesterday's experience was unfortunately the polar opposite of my first experience :( There was a small line when I entered but for some reason it took a really long time before I was able to order ... which should have been my clue to leave because from start to finish, no lie, I was in Popeyes for over 30 minutes ... and that's 30 minutes between when I first walked in, to when I finally ordered and to when I finally received my food which was ONE ITEM! There was just total chaos, a lack of urgency and no leadership behind the counter and in the kitchen which resulted in what I and other patrons experienced. The saving grace for the 1 star (even tho I know there's no such thing as a zero star review) is that the food was well prepared. They switched out a drink because they didn't have it and never told me. You're not going to get great service here. I do try to make the worker's job easier but adding some humor. I have only had at issue here once after ordering numerous times. It gloomy on the inside because Montclair can't decide what to do with Lackawanna Plaza. I come for the chicken and nothing else. Love Popeyes Montclair service outstanding and food always fresh and delicious favorite chicken spot

First time at this location and likely the last! Restaurant was messy and did not look particularly clean. Staff was okay, but I got the sense they could get ornery if provoked, much like most of us I guess! Spicy chicken sandwich was sloppily made, tasted okay, but had an oil sheen, as did the fries which seem to always be cold at Popeye's! Popcorn shrimp was freshly made and hot, and particularly shrimpy-smelling, which wasn't pleasant! Food tasted like the fry oil needed changed. I'll likely look for another place to eat when in the area, but check it out if you've got the hankering for Popeye's! Maybe you'll have a better experience. read more

Store is dirty and getting your order takes forever even if there's just one other customer there. Ordered for pick up via Uber eats and got the notification immediately that it was ready. I pulled up 5 mins later and my order was nowhere to be found. They accused me I was at the wrong Popeyes and when I showed them the order, below and behold, they found the ticket right away. NEVER eat here!!! First and last time at this location, left without ordering food. It's sooooo filthy, random pile of trash/dust on the floor that no one would sweep up and employees touching food utensils with no gloves. The beans were visible in some sort of vat that was soooo unappetizing. There was one person ahead of me, we both just stood there in front of the counter getting ignored by the employees for about 10 minutes- they were just milling around not doing much of anything. When the employee finally acknowledges our presence she says that they are out of fries, I figured that was a sign that I needed to just get the hell out of there. I like that the employees are very friendly and the service is quick via my mobile order. The venue requires a major renovation. It felt like it was in an abandoned building in an episode of the walking dead. My husband, mother in law, my 2 years old daughter and 1-year-old son visited Popeyes to have dinner tonight. My husband gave us our order with Jossia. My husband advised Jossia that we need our food freshly fried and that we would wait for it. Jossia promised my husband fresh food and he paid for it. When we get our food, we advised Jossia that the food was cold and that she needs to replace it or refund us the money. The result was that Jossia was very rude to my husband and I. Jossia served us very cold food and when we requested the food to be replaced with fresh food, she argued with us and refused to cooperate with us. Jossia told us to call the police, I urged Jossia to either provide us with fresh food or refund. Jossia refused my request. I asked Jossia to let her manager speak with me, she told me that she is the manager. My family and left the food and store without our refund. This is not acceptable. We demand your attention to this matter. We demand that you compensate us for this bad experience and loss of money and time immediately. Im surprised to see such horrible reviews here. I loveeee me some fried chicken every now and then, and if I don't have much time to spend, Popeyes is the way to go. This place has plenty of parking, plenty of seating, and plenty of fresh fried chicken. I came in, made my order, and the girl at the register actually gave me a better pairing recommendation so that I would get what I was ordering for less by making it a combo. My chicken was sooooo fresh and crispy and the pieces were huge. Absolutely delishhhh. I did see a sign for a 25 cent charge for sauces, which I find kind of a cheapskate move on velhas of the owner, but whatever. I love popeyes. I hate this location. The girl on the register made me repeat my order 5 times and all I ordered was a two piece combo. Later on I asked for some ranch and she shouts out twenty five cents. I go to pull out a quarter and then she says I have to wait for the tax. When I came in there wasn't any chicken ready, but I had had a long day and they said it would be about 10 minutes so I thought I'd wait as opposed to go somewhere else. It's a bad sign when chicken isn't always ready to go. I waited with a small group that had formed as we all paid and waited on chicken. It took about 15 minutes, but the woman working decided it would be better for her to bag everyone's chicken then call out numbers, so even though we were the 2nd people waiting, we had to wait until 10 or so orders were ready before they were actually given out. I lost my receipt later or else I was going to call into their survey thing. I considered only giving it 1 star but I've been here before and haven't had problems, but one day of utter incompetence will keep me from coming back to this location. They were closed 20 minutes before their actual closing time - the entire store quiet and locked up - even as their fluorescent sign blared "OPEN" and their own hours posted on the door suggests otherwise.
