Smashburger has become my go-to place for lunch or dinner when I'm waiting to fly out of Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Something about the crispy chicken sandwich and the side of honey mustard sauce really does the trick. While there aren't tables or chairs available in the fast-food restaurant, if you walk a few steps of Smashburger, you can find places to enjoy your meal by your gate. The service is okay, but I think the food is the main star of the show. I really appreciate when they add extra honey mustard, barbecue, or ketchup on the side so I can enjoy the sauces with my meal. Kareem at the register didn't greet me at all and spoke very quietly, only asking my name for the order and telling me the total. I didn't like that the pin pad asked for a tip. My total for a single smash burger, a regular smash fry and a bottle of water was $22.22! Service was very slow. Everyone had at least one ear piece in their ear and there seemed to be no consistency on what part of the restaurant anyone should be working at. Hidden within the overpopulated, overpriced eateries in Charlotte International Airport, Smashburger doesn't do much to stand out. But if you should happen to stop here, your tastes buds will quickly alert you that something is wonderfully different! First, you may be waiting a bit longer for your food. About seven to 10 minutes. Each order is made fresh. I ordered a turkey single. It was a nice sized sandwich, and was served hot, lightly seasoned, juicy with crunchy, tart pickles, fresh onions, ripe red tomatoes and crisp lettuce. My husband's fries were hot and just delicious. Service was "smashtastic," so very polite and patient. We had never eaten there before and took a moment to decide what we wanted. In the end, we paid just over $25 bucks for a turkey burger, a chicken sandwich, one fry and a bottled drink, but in the weird space of airport food offerings somehow it didn't seem so bad. Food was alright (I ordered a hotdog and fries): the hot dog was a bit burnt. But. Extremely slow service, even when there wasn't a big line. It doesn't help that too many orders aren't right. Also, the location is weird there'll a column that blocks the screen with ready orders and causes a bottleneck for people that has just ordered that tries to go to the waiting area out of the way of people ordering. Very understaffed with a line of 20+ before noon but everyone behind the counter seemed to be having fun with it. Burger was great, served very warm and without a crazy wait. If you're flying thru Charlotte, do not stop at Smash Burger. Waited over 30 minutes for a burger along with over 10 other customers. They were not apologetic in the least for the time it took. No explanation. No food put up at all for over 15 minutes. This is the worst run location I have ever seen. Customers almost missed their flights waiting for a burger. Was ordering burgers with my Mom for our family before boarding our flight. It was forty minutes before boarding started so we THOUGHT that was enough time to get food. Turns out it was not. We almost missed boarding and got our food just in time. No one working there had a sense of urgency one would expect in a fast food restaurant (keyword is "fast"). I have seen other reviews on here with similar stories. Despite them taking their time to make it, the burgers were still haphazardly made. This is not a good look for a popular restaurant chain. I recommend the district manager really look into this location and fix what is wrong. I do not even want to go to another location again if this is acceptable behavior for this company. I worked at McDonald's when I was in college and there were standards and times we had to abide by for drive through and in store purchases. There are more items on the menu at McDonald's than this Smashburger location so I do not think it is unreasonable to expect an order in less than five minutes. Train your employees to do better, have a sense of urgency, and respect everyone else's time especially at an airport where people need to get to their terminal on time. Not a horrible burger, but very similar to fast food chains such as Wendy's including their fries. This particular location is at the extremely outdated Charlotte Douglas Airport which built a brand new terminal without any seating or tables. It is an A LA CARTE type of burger joint to expect to pay about 15+ for a what would be a combo. The service was friendly and luckily it wasn't crowded. I would probably try them again outside of the airport for a better assessment. Their burgers remind me of Wendy's burgers including their fries. They also have tots which I should have ordered instead. I can say it wasn't a greasy burger like say a Five Guys burger. read more

The staff here is all kinds of rude. Only thing open by Gate A24 so we grabbed fries and a milkshake before our flight. It took forever to get our order and then our fries were up but they still have not made our milkshake. So when I inquired whether the bag that I thought he said was for us was in fact for us I got a huge attitude out of the one gentleman saying he had called us eight minutes ago (in actuality it had been less than 5 minutes) and why hadn't we come faster for our food. I told him it was because he hadn't yet made our milkshake and it would be helpful before he gets rude with customers to ensure that their whole order is up. Smash burger really needs to get the staff here in better shape because there's no reason to be rude. read more

They ordered finally and that should have been the end of it - nope - they go to the other side of the counter and start yelling at the kitchen staff. "I want extra everything", "hey can I get some grilled jalapeños too." Finally their order is ready and so is mine, as I can see it sitting in the window. "Hey can I have ranch dressing?" "I need about 4" Of course then the staff has to get small containers and put dressing in them - Mind you they have not paid for any of this extra stuff they are requesting, plus my food is sitting while they are attempting to accommodate Mr. Entitled.
