Buyer (renter) beware! I recommend that you do not rent from Smart (dumb) Stop Storage. :) (The name should tell you everything you need to know. Exact opposite of what it indicates) Go elsewhere! There are many better options. Extra Space Storage is one but there are others too. Be an informed consumer. Do your "homework". They rented me a "10x20" but the actual measurement was "10x19". This company is cutthroat! They will cut you no grace beyond what the law requires! The operate like they are renting apartments, but they obviously are not! The Manager, Desa, is friendly and cordial, but once you've rented the unit, Smart (dumb) Stop Storage will not cut you grace beyond what the law requires (3 day grace period. The same as an apartment complex). Desa informed me when I was in the process of signing the lease they wanted a 10 day notice when I wanted to vacate the unit. The understanding was they would "pro-rate" the last month based up the vacate date. I called her approximately two weeks in advance, Oct. 20th, and provided her notice that I intended to vacate on November 4th and was informed that they don't "pro-rate". Therefore, since the date I intended to vacate was about 10 days beyond the 3 day grace period, Oct. 28th, they required another entire month of rent! Rip off! They would not "pro-rate" it and they don't provide a refund for time not used! Pathetic! Absurd! As I was informed by Desa, "Its in the contract." Extra Space Storage does not do this. Extra Space Storage will "pro-rate" if you provide then notice ahead of time as I did Desa. "Its in the contract." Investigate for yourself if you don't believe me. One can deduce that Smart (Dumb) Stop Storage's strategy (scheme) is to rip their customers off wherever possible! (reach into the customers pocket and take as much as possible). If one was to surrender their unit before their rent is due again, Nov 4th, they could re-rent it and double dip, so to speak. For instance my due date was on the 26th of each month and if I vacated and surrender it to them on Nov. 4th they could rent it on the 5th to someone else and collect rent from the new tentant while keep your(my) money that you(I) paid through to the 25th (a full month). AKA double dip and rip people off. .. thats they way they do business. The District Manager, Nadine, was no better. I got the figurative poke in the eye from her. I informed her I could not vacate the unit until the 1st of the month (my rent was due on the 26th). She said she would give three additional days and I could vacate on the 31st. Yeah she sounded like she was making a special concession and providing more "grace" than they are required too. However, she said that after I informed her I could not vacate until the first! AKA the figurative poke in the eye, because she was informed I could not do that! I've rented storage unit on and off for 30 years and NEVER experienced this at any of them. I recently had the pleasure of interacting with Deesa at Smart Shop Storage, and I can't praise her enough for her outstanding customer service. From our very first phone call, Deesa's friendly demeanor and extensive knowledge made me comfortable and confident with trusting that location When I arrived at the store, Deesa greeted me with the same warmth and professionalism. She was incredibly informative and ensured I had all the details I needed. But what truly made this a great customer experience was the fact that the day after I rented my storage unit, Deesa called to inform me that during a routine check, she noticed I had improperly locked my unit. Thanks to her calling me and letting me know this, I was able to come in and properly secure my unit. Deesa's exceptional service and genuine concern for customers needs make her a standup employee. This place is terrible and the customer service here sucks. The unit it self is difficult to move into, they have dirty flaps to keep in the air from the swamp coolers that can't be moved to the side or opened while you move your belongings so they just flap in your face like unwanted sausage at a frat party. The units them selfs are clean but no interior light like other units I have and that makes a world of a difference when trying to find something. I have one of the larger ones so it's really dark. I have had this unit for 2 years and once paid under $100 a month. Now I'm paying $130 a month. I have two other units in town and started paying $100 and now I'm paying $109, no big deal. However a $30 increase for staying long term? Sounds like they try and take advantage of the fact hoping your not in a position to move your belongings out and jack up your rates. So I call up these delightful storage host and ask why I'm I paying $30 more a month? In short there response is you will receive a rate increase every 6 months. Me: Okay.. how much increase every 6 months? Them: Not sure.. Me: huh? Them: huh? Me: okay where does it cap at? Will I be paying $150 next year or $160? Them: Not sure.. Me: huh? Them: huh?? Me: Well guess I'll just move my shit out and put my stuff in my other units if I'm going to get punished for staying long term. Them: huh? Me: huh? Them: okay Me: cool bro (it was a girl) End call. As stated I have other units that are climate controlled that are the same size with lights and easier to move into that I don't get punished staying long term. If anything most places want to staying long term since they're not loosing money by cutting rates or promos to get new clients in. Plus it's all about that monthly MRC that wants you a long term customer. Do not recommend this place at all. The staff member I spoke with has the personality of a track home door knob and has as much knowledge about processes as a newly hired abused intern. Stay here for a few months if needed but expect a rate increase that will continue to increase over time with no formula or algorithms they can explain. I'll be soon saving $130 a month!! I am giving only a one star as I have been a customer for just over one year and they have increased my rates by almost $100.00 dollars per month. When I speak to the office they tell me it is due to availability. However, when I go online and check rates I see the same unit size for $46.00 less per month. When I inquired about the online rate I was told since I am an "existing customer I would not qualify for the online rate"???. This company never had payment issue with the payment of my unit, every month the charge went through "Auto Pay" and was never declined.I rented another unit at a competitor at a rate reasonable to us. IN MY OPINION THIS IS JUST CORPORATE GREED. I will no longer give a referral and/or reference to a organization like this. read more

This place used to be great until Public Storage took it over now it's horrible tried to pay my bill online so I wouldn't get charged a fee of paying my bill their site kept freezing up I went down there to pay it in person they were at lunch. So frustrating who treat their customers like that Do yourself a favor and go to Extra Space Storage don't waste time or possessions with his company. read more

Ksenia the manager was absolutely HORRIBLE!!! I made reservations for 2 units, and someone from their location called to confirm when I would be in. I came in the next day before 2 pm like I said I would and spoke to a blonde girl who said she cancelled one of my reservations (right off the bat). I asked why and she said she just didn't think I needed two units. I was astounded. Seriously? She wasn't apologetic in the least. Then she said that the one 10' x 20' unit I reserved was actually two 10' x 10' units and that I would "NEED" to buy two locks from them. I said I would have to think about it. I couldn't believe it. She was so clueless so I asked to speak to a manager to find out how this girl could just mess with my reservations and be so rude. Yup the girl was the manager Ksenia. Unbelievable. So I went down the street and rented the two storage units I needed from the Smart Stop Pollock location instead. I've rented here for awhile. I asked all the questions I wanted to know. As for the rate increases, they do inform you 30 days advance before it actually hits your account. You need to update your address in order to receive the notice. The staff is friendly and the property is clean. Will rent again if I needed to. read more

I myself have been there less than a year and I agree with the other reviewer, the rates have increased for me twice already. I on the other hand, have been notified by mail for the increases. I am not too happy on the increases, which I don't know if the low rate is just to reel you in to get your business. I am sure it's just going to keep increasing, that I will be looking at other facilities in the area. If you are looking for short term, then this would be the place for you. read more
