Lee, the assistant who helped me get in on my first day, is wonderful! Now on the other hand, unfortunately.... I'm a BRAND NEW tenant and must say this: The other person: Leo the On-Site manager is rude, unhelpful, and lacks any amount of customer service. He overspeaks, cuts you off, and raises his voice over you. I HAVEN'T EVEN MET HIM IN PERSON. I am a BRAND NEW tenant (2 days) and Leo has made it very clear that he is not there to be kind or understanding of any matter that isn't beneficial to him. I am appalled with the impolite conversation I just had with him. He doesn't have any actual interest in being helpful and is blind to the minimum standard of customer service. I'm going to contact corporate. I'm shocked that someone as discourteous as Leo is in a managerial position. read more

Worst storage facility around. Trust me. The site manager, Leo, is awful--rude, not customer-service oriented, and is not organized at all. The other reviews mentioning how bad Leo is as a manager are 100% correct! Base on the reviews, it's hard to believe Leo has been a manager for so long, but this should tell you about the company. The call center that receives overflow phone calls when the office location is busy has a rather rude lady as well. Both times interacting with her was bad. Rather than listening, she assumes why your calling and gives completely unrelated answers to your inquiries. In addition, the outside units (not sure about the inside ones) have glued sawdust boards (not even particle board) as walls which are CONSTANTLY SHEDDING SAWDUST on the floor and over your stored items, whether your items touch the walls or not. The walls are basically slowly disintegrating. No doubt this was a cost-saving measure by the facility but you still pay the price with your items covered in this crap and the poor customer service from Leo is just not worth it. As a side note, Will was helpful and had excellent customer service skills. Will would make a great manager because he is clear when he speaks, firm but fair, has a friendly disposition, and is very helpful. read more

beware of Leo the manager!!! Every time I go to the office for something this guy is rude and is hostile. Like me buying supplies bothers him, the other day I went to buy some boxes and he was sitting in there on his phone doing nothing. So I knocked on the window and he pointed to the sign. Be back in 15 minutes. So I came back in 30 minutes and knocked on the window and he pointed at the sign again, I could see that he was smoking something couldn't tell what. I called 1-800 number to report this guy and they told me he is the manager. And actEd like there's nothing they can do about it. read more

I recently switched storage facilities due to rate hikes that weren't transparent and upon looking around for a new place, one of them was SmartStop and this far it's been a very nice change. They have all drive up units, which is extremely helpful on loading and u loading for our business. They are friendly - Steven - was the associate that helped us move in and when he saw our unit was one of the split door units, he offered right away to move us to the one door unit so we had easier access in and out with our things. The facility is clean and seeing as there is an onsite manager it is safe and monitored. I hope to keep saying the same thing months down the road! Very happy to store here! read more

Smart Stop Storage H.Beach. I made a reservation for a unit with special advertised for a free month & dropped by today to "take a tour". I had the honor of meeting Leo! Oh Leo, your loss, not mine. Leo & I lasted 2 minutes when he preceded to insult me after explaining the special even raising his voice & telling me I don't know how else to say it to you lady that's it. I'd like to know #'s of how much will be due today & again he yelled & I looked at him & said if it's really that difficult for you to give me an amount without getting angry I'll find another way to end this. In his explanation never once could ge tell me the amount & he kept saying if I do the process then you'll be renting this unit! I can't tell you the amount without processing you. I'm in the staging business & was looking to move 5 units over the next month but now I think I understand why Smart Stop wants you doing the whole lease process on line, it's so you won't have to meet Leo until your already locked in! 22 yrs I've rented units never have I been so insulted or spoken down to as Leo just did today. WOW what a angry guy! Hope your day gets better. Mine, already has! That was a close call.... why anyone would want that for a first impression is beyond my understanding. read more

We warned you!!! We rented a 9x19 unit Saturday. Upon trying to occupy said unit, it's actually 8-7 (8-4 intermittently throughout course of the depth) by 17-7 deep. Big problem! I need 18'... of usable depth. Nothing bigger available either.... otherwise we'd have just gotten it to begin with. As our contract allows for cancellation within 48 hours, we exercised that right.... office wasn't open on Sunday, so Monday morning we went in. Problem being... they still hit you with FULL rental, admin fees, and non-refundable insurance fees (even if you had your own insurance). Chris was quite specific in the LAW allowing him to do what he chooses, yet can't/won't provide the statute. Chris says "approximations" are allowed... and is quite sure 17" is close enough. Chris is also quite specific that he's just an employee, with no ability to do anything but swipe a card and click on a computer... any other decisions go through corporate district managers... but that name/number/contact isn't available....We'll just have to wait and see how it all turns out... SO.... Be warned! You will get charged. FULL price/sqft rounded up to the next whatever price suits them.... Regardless of what you think you are getting...MEASURE for yourself!!!! You will not get ANY form of customer service... unless THEY want/need you to do or change something for THEM. Don't expect fair/equitable treatment... What's good for them is good for them!!! Apparently, only in storage can you charge by "approximately" sqft, round up by any means possible.... everyone else has to at least be close... imagine being 17" short on carpet... concrete, or even 12oz short on that steak you ordered.... There's plenty of storage spots available, go anywhere but here!!! read more

Started off renting a small storage space and after a month we ended up upgrading to a larger space. Leo is awesome and has been more than helpful. I always feel safe when I'm here since there's always a worker checking out the premises. I needed space to store items for my business and I believe we're paying a great value, especially for a drive up space that's large. If you have any questions, Leo is definitely your guy! read more

Fast and easy process to open a storage unit. The customer service person was professional and answered all my questions. I've used other storage companies in the past and Smart Storage is cleaner than other places and the property is secure and safe. I appreciate the customer service person taking his time to make sure I could lift the door and operate the lock. So far it's been a very good experience. read more

Came in to look for a storage place, and found amazing customer Service by a woman named Cathy Kidwell. I will never forget her kind words and encouragement throughout the process. I asked millions of questions I'm sure it was annoying at some points but she just kept on with a huge smile. I will definitely be looking forward to seeing her everything I go there. I wanted to give them a Cero, the worse customer service very disappointing to hear the manager Leo who speaks to you "the customer" in a demeanor , impolite and unprofessional after I ask about a processing fee to make a payments over the phone which it is understandable that many companies have that policy but it is not ok when they don't disclose before hand that once they enter the processing fee amount in their computer there is not way to remove it if you decide to stop by and pay your rental in person , pretty much you are obligated to continue with the OTP payment . Also nor just that they became ugly when you make a suggestion on what they should get better at disclosed or say before putting us the customer in a screw up situation . I will never use this place and I wouldn't never recommend this place to anybody unless you like to be charge undisclosed fees . Leo you need to learn how to speak to your customers nor just when they are signing to rent the place but also when they are not clear with your fees . read more

We've had a Storage unit for over 5 years (as our son was scammed so returned home) but when SmartStop took it over in 11/2017, they've raised our rent 3 times or 22% to $116/mo. in less than 1 year with NO AARP, Senior or VETS discount. We've asked Leo, Mgr. continuously for any discount & he supposedly talks with their mgmt. but he never lets us know their response until we call the next month. Finally Leo gave us District Mgr's name Richard BARNETT who called 1 time & never called again altho Leo was supposed to email him to please call us (as his cell# was incorrect). So we withheld the raise of $7. in hopes of a return call from R. Barnett but local SmartStop called us every day in early Oct. threatening to charge a Late Fee if we didn't pay up - so we paid. But POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE from both Local Mgr. & District Mgr.!! Look out as CONSTANT RENT RAISES & no way to directly contact corporate office (per Glass B.'s review too) & they don't seem to care anyway. Mark S. read more

I really appreciate Michelle's reply and positive attitude about the very poor review that I gave Mini U Storage. She has vowed that it wouldn't happen again and that my mom would receive a credit for her unit. I honestly hope that the two caretakers that were there this past Sunday do not treat anyone else the way we were treated.
