She stated I couldn't even place the order online and call to notify about allergies on the online order, because they didn't accept any phone orders or modifications. Even when I stated the severity of the allergy and that every other location did this without a problem, her reply was that they didn't do that at their Crown Point location. It's not that much of an issue, but I'm trying to minimize the amount of time I'm around a lot of people. It's safer to place an order and just come in to pick it up to maximize distancing. I did come in to place my order after they refused to accept it or modifications over the phone and they had five employees just hanging out and the place was empty. Four were standing behind the counter talking and the fifth was hanging out by a boy's car in the parking lot. It made their refusal to accommodate even more frustrating because they didn't even have customers and they were over staffed (they kept joking about how they only have four employees but for some reason had five that day). Kind of seemed like laziness, to be honest. Smoothie was all right. Your standard smoothie king smoothie. But I'm pretty disappointed in the staff here. Today I made an exception and what a surprise I got. I sat outside with my dog Zeke, not knowing that friendly dogs are allowed inside (and they aren't required to drink coffee!). I ordered my usual cappuccino with hazelnut and stayed outside with Zeke, enjoying the sights and sounds of downtown Crown Point. My coffee was flavored with just the right amount of hazelnut and sweetness. I googled Ms Zolfo and found out she made national news for the goodness she spreads. Inspirational words are written on each coffee sleeve and she encourages people to spread it forward. She had a steady stream of customers while I was there. Most order their coffee to go. I chatted with her during a pause in customers and she revealed that she was hit hard during the covid pandemic and just recently re-opened the dining area, although she still hasn't brought back her food menu. The back wall is now full of cards and letters from customers who have thanked her for helping them. The little coffee shop truly is an uplifting place to start one's day.
