I have been going to this salon for 6 years now, and I have been to several other salons in the surrounding Boston area. I have yet to write a review until now. Of all the years I have come into the salon, I have never met such an amazing staff until I met Felicia F, a staff at Smart Tan in Somerville. She has recently provided service to me at the salon. It is people like her that get me excited to go back and to remain loyal to certain businesses. She has been extremely accommodating, and has on multiple occasions now taken the time to sit down and explain the services to me. She goes the extra mile, and is a light to be around. She convinced me to sign on for a package deal, and her sales pitch was hard to turn down. It is the little things when it comes to which business you choose to give your money to, and it is the employees like Felicia that keep me excited to tan and feel happy to travel out of my way to give my business! I am extremely pleased with this salon, and plan to tan here for the remainder of my tanning days!! If your boss reads these, I hope he knows how lucky he is to have a staff as promoting and accommodating as you. I highly recommend this salon. Soo as you can tell, all of the other 'reviewers' are seriously hating on this place. Its the only tanning salon thats convenient to me...so i ignored all reviews and tried it out for myself. Honestly, im not sure what everyone is talking about. Yeah, so what...its bright and funky in there, but you're in a TANNING SALON. You're aren't off to get a 90 minute facial to forget about how terrible your life is. You are walking into a salon where you are about to fry your face and feel good about it. The girl that was working the day i went in was super friendly. She gave me a tour of all 5 level beds and tells you so much information about how they work. Fantastic! As for pricing...come on now. We aren't in Idaho. Deal with it, if you want some color on your pretty little face, youre gonna have to pay. Its an investment. As a female, you know that the days where you're feeling awfully pasty, having a bad hair day..and your jeans aren't clean..you spend a little money to fix that. So do it! Dont let all the other reviews scare you! I love this place...and will DEFINITELY be a regular. I absolutely love this place! I've been coming here for a few months now and its honestly one of the best tanning salons I have ever been to. Not only was I greeted by a wonderful staff, but I was given a tour of the facility. They explained to me that they had 5 levels of tanning and that each bed had its own benefits and different features to make your tanning experience as comfortable and relaxing as possible. The higher level bed that you do, you are exposed to less UVB rays and more UVA rays. Levels 3,4&5 are their Smart Beds. All of the smart beds have Lumiere Light facials, side tanners, neck & shoulder tanners as well as your own personal AC & stereo which you can hook up your ipod to! I think those are great features to have in a tanning bed because not only are you exposing your skin to safer ratios of UVA & UVB rays, you're also made to feel as comfortable as possible. I believe that the prices definitely live up to what you are buying and there's nothing wrong with them. The salon is extremely clean and sanitary & the staff is welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable of the products they are selling. I recommend this salon to everyone and their friends ! :) read more

I am a student in the Cambridge area and started to go to Smart Tan because the sun is literally never out up here. I'm used to the South, so I needed to get my sun fix! Smart Tan is great - there are 7 or 8 beds, and there are multiple different levels. They also have the smart-level tannings beds that are less bad for your skin, because they have fewer burning rays. I've been going to Smart Tan for about a month - I go 3 or 4 days a week. I could tell a considerable difference in my skin tone within a week or so and am really pleased with the progression to a more brown skin-tone now that I have moved up to higher-level beds. The staff there are also great, answer all your questions, and run things pretty smoothly - getting people in and out. I've never had to wait longer than 5 minutes to get into a tanning bed. I did not give 5-stars just because the place is pretty pricey. I looked at some competing places around the area that are cheaper - but the quality (and number) of beds here outmatches them enough that I think the extra price is definitely worth it. read more

I dont often take time to give positive reviews. However, when I find an establishment that provides far better service than others in the same genre. I feel it neccessary to do so. I walked into smart tan in Sommerville this past thursday right before closing. I was expecting them to tell me I was too late. I almost didnt even attempt considering how many other salons already have the doors locked even though online it says there still open. So when I was pleasantly greeted by a young lady named Felicia and told no were not closed yet "Come on in." I was really suprised especially when she took time to go over everything and tour the facility rather than rush me through. I cant tell you how many times ive had the doors locked in my face or told sorry all the machines were off. Instead I was welcomed in. Told all about the tanning technology that smart tan has. I had a great tan there and the beds definitely were a higher quality. Everything suggested was so accurate. Smart tan has a new client for ever. read more

I'm shocked at all the negative reviews this place has gotten. I have been a customer to this place for a very long time and I refuse to go to any other place. First of all, the place is insanely awesome. I love the environment. Sure, the loud TVs in every room is a little too much, but you can always block it out with the radio or your own ipod! AWESOME! The girls that work there are always really friendly to me and they always give me the best choices when it comes to lotion products. Not only that, but they always try to look for the best deal for me when it comes to packages! I also love how the prices differentiate in beds, not the amount of time your in a bed for like other places. I personally don't think the girls are rude in this place. They seem really friendly and cheerful whenever I go in, but then again those reviews about those "dumb girls" are from a while ago. Maybe they got replaced? Anyway, AWESOME PLACE!!! I've been going to Smart Tan for about 6 months. The first time I got a Mystic Spray Tan. The woman working there explained how it worked (this was my first time doing a spray tan) and suggested the appropriate color for my skin tone. They had a special for new customers which I took advantage of. A couple months later I purchased a package of level 1 U/V tans. Their level 1 beds are 50% bronzing which is better than some of the other tanning places I've been to. I got a good base tan after about 8 trips with the Level 1 beds (they have a 9 and a 12 minute version). Their prices seem competitive with other places in the area and the staff is very friendly. I have only had to wait for a bed maybe once or twice when I went during peak hours, but otherwise I am usually in and out very quickly. Overall, a very good option if you're looking to tan in the Davis Square area. read more

Simply the best salon in which I've ever been. Friendly, knowledgeable staff; clean, modern facility; high-tech, feature packed equipment. I have never seen such advanced equipment. The staff walks you through how the skin tans and how the different equipment features will effect your tan and your experience. Even though I've been tanning my whole life, I saw and learned a lot that I needed to know. Even the prices were incredible. I got a package were each tan comes to just $4.50 in a great bed with two high pressure facials. I love Smart Tan in Davis Square. It's location is convienient and I always find parking. The facility is clean, modern and cheerful. The staff is friendly and helpful. I love to tan at Smart Tan because there are a lot of different options to choose from as far as tanning levels. I usually choose level 3, which, with a membership, is only $8.99. I get great color without burning. They have tons of lotions to help you get darker and to help you keep your tan looking good. The rooms are spacious and private and they have great tunes in every room that you can blast, if you like to listen to music. Being tan lifts my mood and self esteem. I've used this location off and on dozens of times throughout the past few years. Since I started using this salon, I haven't used another place. The location is great and easily accessible via public transportation. They have many up-to-date beds as well as standing spray-on options. Its very clean and comfortable. They even have a chill waiting area with couches. They're prices are right on par with other salons and treat repeat customers well. The staff was always friendly and informative and never had any kind of issue. I would certainly recommend them to anyone looking for this type of service - newbies or vets at tanning. Smart Tan is one of the numerous tanning places I've been to. And I can tell when people care about you not only about your money. The rooms and the beds are always clean and equipped with a phone to contact the front desk if you run into a problem or need any help. They always play the best music so you feel like you're on a mini vacation every time you go tanning. The overall style of the salon is really nice, makes you want to spend more time there. Wanted to get a good base tan before going down to the Dominican Republic. My daughter is a member so I thought I would give it a try and was also advised to try level 3. I was impressed with the results after 2 visits and people were asking me if I had just gotten back from vacation. It is pricy but WORTH THE MONEY! Don't really care about the decor because I'm just going to tan, not stay for the day. The customer service was quite good, never any bad issues with anyone there. I did get a SLIGHT rash although that is what always happens with my skin. Overall it is a great place to tan and I would recommend it to my friends. read more

I don't understand why there would be any negative reviews? I have been a loyal customer here for the past year and have nothing but good things to say about the place. They are VERY clean, offer 5 different level beds [one that is almost 100% tanning rays], have the latest Mytsic booth, and great prices [they even have payment plans!]. The staff there is also very friendly and helpful, they know most customers by name. I feel bad when reading these reviews ... this place is like my second home! I have been going to this salon for years. I actually think the customer service is excellent - they recognize me here, i have never had to wait for more than 10 minutes to get into the high-level beds (which i feel are the safest, because they minimize burning), and the facilities are very clean, with great after-tanning amenities (lotion, hairspray, deodorant, hair ties, etc.). I like that the location is a bit secluded and more private, and that the facility is clean, and calm. I have not looked for any other place to tan since finding this location years ago. read more

This is a very clean salon. When you walk into it you feel welcomed and relaxed. The beds are amazing and always cleaned for each and every customer. It has a unique atmosphere and is a place I like to go to get away. The people who work there are very nice and always have great suggestion on which lotions to use. When you first walk in, you are greeted and if you're new you will get a tour of the whole facility, to leave you with the least amount of questions during your stay there. This salon is a cut above the rest. I've been to many tanning salons in the area and no others compare in terms of style and class. The management obviously cares about cleanliness and the employees are very well informed regarding the different levels of tanning. I always see the owner changing bulbs, which makes me feel they must keep close tabs on the lifespan of the bulbs, changing them as necessary. After seeing other salons I was getting discouraged because most had out dated beds & equipment, girls seemed unprofessional, or the salon just didn't look appealing. I came across this salon & I felt relieved! I have gotten so many compliments on my tan since I started tanning here! The sales associates here really helped me pick out the best bed for my budget and skin type. They also gave great recommendations on the different lines of lotion they offer, the one I use has made a serious difference in my color. The staff isn't pushy, trying to get you to buy the highest priced thing either. They really want you to be happy and get what you want out of the experience. Love this place. I've been coming for about 3 years. I've only done level 3, 4, and 5 tanning. I Always Feel Great When Leaving And Feel A Big Difference . I love all the products the supply even though I don't use them...being a guy most of it is perfume scented, but I'm not there for that. It's perfect. I recommend this place to people all the time.
