This is a great place! State of the art tanning beds. The owner, Nick is always ahead of the curve when it comes to tanning and Red light therapy. They actually have the "SPECTRUM 7", top of the line, Red Light Therapy. The Spectrum 7 booth combines visible red light (for skin surface) and near-infrared light (for deeper tissue) to achieve a "360-degree" effect. Most tanning places their units ( if they even have them) typically stop at "near infra red" around 800 nanometers, but Nick goes to 11. That's 1050 nanometers! They call that "invisible" infrared, so you're just going to take the guys word for it! Nicks a great guy, who is forever in search for the newest and finest machines on the market. Top shelf! I have gone here before for tanning. I did an unlimited month last year before my vacation. They were always great, helpful and nice. Today I went for a spray tan, as I wanted to wear a nice spring dress for dinner tomorrow. I didn't catch her name, my bad, but the employee working today at 2:30 was wonderful. She was knowledgeable and nice. I panicked a little when I got home because I thought it was too dark. But, I did as instructed and waited 3 hours before taking a shower and I could not be happier. I did the medium color with an extra coat for my legs and it looks wonderful. Very happy to be able to wear my new dress with out stockings. Love this place! read more

My favorite tanning salon in central Ma! I've tried a lot of different places around and this is the clear winner- always clean, it's tastefully designed inside. The workers and owner have been positive and attentive each time I go, they get you into your room quickly and with a smile. There are a ton of new magazines inside if you are waiting for your favorite bed to open up. My favorite aspect: the monthly package is a great deal in my opinion- $50 for unlimited any level tanning (I tanned up so fast in the level 5 bed!) plus free unlimited level 1 tanning for a friend, a discount on all the lotions and (my favorite) a free spray tan each month! The spray tan is super easy and fast (in and out in under 4 minutes) and it's done in a machine (so no one has to see you nearly naked!) :) I've done light and medium, it's amazingly smooth coverage (no streaks or spots) and not orange-y at all, I've gotten so many compliments!!! Seriously, if you haven't stopped by yet give it a try- it'll become your new favorite place too! P.S. Fantastic all around! 5 stars from the cleanliness of the salon, the fabulous staff and the tanning beds are the best I've ever experienced. The color I got in each level (I did 3-5) was bar none the best I've ever gotten when tanning. Both of the women at the front desk (I wish I could remember their names but I am the worst with names) were SO friendly, SO sweet and every time I went in I felt like I was visiting a friend (this is why I feel horrible about not remembering their names) They gave me great insight on bottles of lotion and I felt no pressure on buying any but thanks to them found a great one that I loved! I bought a one month package at level 3 and you can upgrade to higher levels for a small charge which I did the last week I upgraded to level 4 and 5 for a few days, it worked out perfectly for me. Again like I mentioned the color I got was amazing - I never tan well, in fact I typically burn but thanks to the suggestions from the wonderful ladies up front they helped me find the best beds and times to start and move up to in the right time to get good color. Over the weekend I did a mystic spray tan in a booth... typically don't get spray tans, Maybe 3 times over the last 5 years. Nick who was working on Saturday told me to give it a shot and see if it turns out the way I wanted. He also said if it doesn't come out well he'd have no problem refunding my money. So I thought hey; this place will allow me to try this out and if I'm not happy give me a refund? Sure. Well... it didn't go well. I had spots and blotches all over my arms and legs. Now the reason for that is because I'm not a typical spray tanner and likely missed a position or got sprayed twice in one area. Instead of taking a refund I thought I'd give the air brush a shot to fix the imperfections. I called today and Mareena was in I told her the situation. Mareena did an airbrush tan and let me tell you 1. Her professionalism is SUPERB. 2. As awkward as it was for me to stand there topless (my choice) she obviously wasn't phased by it. And last but not least I LOVE IT ALREADY and just got it done. Mareena you are the best! Anyone looking for a good spray tan should 100% go with this girl. She even gave me her number so I could text her when I wanted to go in again and trust me I will be. No, this tan wasn't for an event it was to make me feel better about myself. Super clean and great customer service! A bit pricey but I thought it was worth it for my wedding tan

I am a pasty pale, couch-dwelling, book-reading, vampire. I don't tan. Ever. But I had an indoor beach party (bikini required) to go to and three days to turn my see-through skin into an actual color. I live really close to this place, so I figured I'd give it whirl. The lovely girl behind the desk was so patient and knowledgeable...after listening to my woes and evaluating me, she explained (several times) the best course of action and reassured me (repeatedly) that I would not turn red or orange if I followed her instructions. The only reason I don't give the place 5 stars is because it was so darn EXPENSIVE! $63.50 for one spray tan session (which I'm told will last 7-10 days) and two 5-minute sessions in a mid-level tanning bed. ("Mid-level" meaning the kind that makes ghosts back into girls in 10 minutes total. As I understand it, they have five different kinds/levels of tanning beds and each is the most sophisticated, high-tech contraption of its kind available.) I would say that first visit took a total of 40 minutes, and I'm sure the next one will be much shorter since I know the drill now - maybe 15 minutes? So some quick math tells you that they'll be making over a dollar a minute on just me. I don't know what the average cost of tanning is, but a quick look around the place tells you that The Solar System is committed to luxury (I'm told "the renovations are gonna be so cool!"). Back to my adventure. Beautiful Young Perky Desk Girl walked me through the processes - including the choreography needed for the spray tan, which was fun - and set me up with all the necessary accoutrements, and I was on my way! The only thing we seemed to have a miscommunication about was the lotion I had to put on my hands before the spray tan portion of the endeavor. Try as I might, I could not elicit an explanation from her about the purpose of the lotion. I did my best with it, but my hands still turned a blotchy, dirty orange anyway. Ah well: she was cute and I was impressed with the fit of her Victoria's Secret "PINK" sweatpants, so I let it go. Fast forward to Friday night: The Beach Party. I looked SUPER hot in my bikini and I even won the "Best Bod" contest...although the cash prize did NOT cover the cost of tanning + all the yoga classes I attended to get to this level of hotness. Still, it was so great to feel confident in a bikini in January. So, a grudging "thank you" to Solar System for sexifying me at the cost of this week's groceries. ...I didn't eat anything for three days before the party anyway, so I guess it all evened out. read more

This is by far my favorite tanning salon. I have been to many other salons and I always compare them to The Solar System. There are many perks to tanning here that other salons dont address. I had a bad experience at the solar system a couple weeks ago. I left feedback through their site and they didn't respond (almost verbatim my review below). They didnt care enough to respond, so if I could I would give them 0 stars. I have only had a hand full of spray tans before, and had been there a couple times nearly a year ago. I went in and asked for a spray tan. The woman working there said it was $45. I was a little shocked since that is a lot to pay for a spray tan, and I hadn't remembered it being that much. I said I recalled the per tan price to be closer to $30 or $35 and I just wanted whatever was cheapest. She told me that $35 was bronzer only. I guess they use a different terminology than I would... but to me "bronzer" means tint that is more of makeup, and "self tanner" is something that lasts a couple days and changes the skin color. "Bronzer" was of no use to me since I needed color to last the entire weekend, so I went with the $45 tan the girl recommended. When I got out of the booth, I didn't have any "bronzer" on me (I have had self tanners before that also use a bronzer). At that point I started to think something was amiss and it dawned on me that maybe "Bronzer" is what you call self tanner. I asked the girl about it and she was very flippant with me. I asked why I paid $45 instead of $35 because she was insistent on steering me away from the "bronzer only" package. Apparently the $10 I paid extra was for pre and post tan moisturizing? I asked several questions before I got in the booth about the differences, but only now did she tell me that the $45 one was extra because it had moisturizer. It had been presented to me like the $35 one was only bronzer and wouldnt be suitable. So, I felt really ripped off and like she tried to mislead me. I told her "Bronzer" to many people means it washes off in the shower, but "self tanner" implies that it lasts a couple days. She was rude and dismissive and rolled her eyes at me and dismissively told me to "BYE Have a nice day." There are a bunch of rooms and beds and I asked here which way it was before I went into the booth - She was on her phone and did not lead me to the room and when I asked which one it was she just pointed down the hallway and said "back there." So, besides feeling like I was ripped off out of $10, which I could deal with, I am giving 1 star because I feel like I was ripped off $45 because I got almost zero color from the spray tan. I went in around 10 am and didn't shower that day at all. That evening I still didn't think I had any color. I hoped it would show up the next day, but it didn't. I am very fair and I asked for the darkest level. I'm really disappointed with the results. I was going to a wedding and rehearsal dinner and the results were so minimal a couple friends said to me "I thought you were going to get a spray tan." My response was I did, and they looked at me with disbelief. Their staff needs to be a little more clear with selling a $45 spray tan, because to be honest, I do not care about an extra $10 in lotion to make the tan "last" when it was clear the girl had an attitude and was just trying to upsell me... moreover, I didn't get a tan, so really there is nothing that needs to last. All I wanted was something to spray self tanner on me so I could be tan this weekend. Instead I paid $45 to be spoken down to and mislead, and not get any results. I would have been better off just doing my own tan at home. read more

I've been going to the Solar System for about 10 years now on and off. I also used to visit their Tanorama location in Walpole for many years before discovering this large location. I have nothing bad to say about this place, it is always clean, all staff members are friendly and the prices are great for the beds that they offer. They don't force you to do the continuous auto-debit unlimited monthly tanning like most salons do. They always run discounts for tanning packages every holiday and if you purchase another package on your last tan they add an extra for free, that alone makes it worth tanning here. I have yet to find a better tanning salon. read more

The Level five lay down bed always has light bulbs out. They refuse to replace them even when you report it. Not worth the money.

I usually don't leave bad reviews but this particular tanning salon was definitely not a good experience all the way around. It was extremely dirty. Lotion on the floors and walls. They are always low on linen. The staff members are very rude and inconsiderate to the clients. I overheard the girl at the desk mention how she couldn't believe someone that big was going into a tanning bed. That alone...made me want to walk out. The prices for services and products were far overpriced. Ive tanned in many different salons..and the beds they claim for the level they are advertised in are junk. You have to pay the higher price to acutally achieve some sort of color. My best advice to you would be to try another salon in the area. After a stint in the local hospital, and on my way home with an expiring Living Social, I decided to stop in. $39.00 for 3 versa tans with 2 upgrades (which means that in addition to the tanning solution they add moisturizer to "Seal" it, which normally costs $10 extra dollars for each $39.00 per session). Way back in the day when I baked myself shamelesly, I swore this place off because of one rotten snobby and simply nasty employee. But I had a living social, so maybe I could put a 10 year grudge behind me. SURPRISE! The place is under new management and they are lovely. I wouldn't fry myself again (our Nuclear Physics son would write me off...) but I had seen Paula Deen go for the fake spray tan so, praying I wouldn't turn into a carrot, I took a deep breath and pulled up to the counter. Versa Tan does not have a bronzing element in the formulation. It is a series of enzymes, etc. that are sugar (glucose) based. Goes fast, and STINKS to all high hell as if you had baked yourself in a regular booth. When you walk out, you are not orange or any color unknown to nature - no you will not look like Snooki or the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. It STINKS, even though they tell you it doesn't have much of an odor (they are so used to it, they can't smell it). They claim you won't get blotchy and it develops with your own melanonine so the color you develop is more what you would normally look like - supposedly. Its been a couple of hours and I am noticing a very subtle difference, although I will reak until I can shower in the first 12 hours (they don't recommend you shower for 8-12 hours so make sure you shower, exfoliate and shave before you to the "walk like an egyptian" naked pose in your very own smelly but will make you look colorful booth...) read more

The Solar System in Framingham used to be a pretty good place to go. The owner's presence was obvious back when it opened. Over the years, he has had nothing but immature, unprofessional, rude girls working the desk. On more than 2 occasions, I had a tanning appointment in the morning and they failed to open. I waited over an hour and they still were not open. After my last visit, I will absolutely never step foot in that place again. Someone's underwear was in the tanning bed, so I know they didn't clean it. When I told the girl, she said that was impossible and was just plain rude. She must be a relative, because no business owner would allow his employees to talk to customers the way she does. So if you want to go to a dirty tanning salon and be treated rudely by overtanned, entitled little girls, be my guest, but don't go until at least 2 hrs after they are supposed to open. read more

Tantastic! The biggest tanning salon I have ever seen. They have any tanning bed you can imagine-- UVA and UVB and spray booths. The staff is friendly, knowledgable and tan. The place is clean. I decided to try the Mystic Spray Tan two weeks before my wedding to see if I liked it. They had a coupon for buy 1 spray tan, get 1 free on their website. The store is very clean and has lots of different tanning options. The staff was friendly and did a good job explaining what to do. I was so happy with my spray tan, that I did it again 3 days before my wedding and it looked great. The spray tan was very natural and affordable (especially with the coupon). read more

This tanning salon is amazing. Nick (the owner) was such an amazing help. He brought me through all of the steps on the machine and assisted me with a hair net, "sticky shoes" so your feet don't get orange from the machine, a towel and lotion. He was very honest with which spray tan I should get particularly for my skin tone. The machines are extremely sanitary. When you're done using it, it automatically has water and soap come off the inner sides of the machine to clean it after it's used. I've gone to several other tanning salons and this was by far the cleanest, nicest and staff was great! I highly recommend it. read more

I get the Versa every couple of weeks and have not had any issues. The color comes out great. Whenever you use a booth instead of getting sprayed by hand, I think it's inevitable that there will be one or two spots that have to be touched up. The key is to find one that works as optimally as possible. For me, it has been best to put a lotion on my hands and feet before going to the session as an extra layer underneath the provided barrier cream. The whole thing usually lasts about eight days, just don't scrub your skin with a loofah or anything like that. I also like how clean and spacious the place is. I am really pleased with the customer service! All the employees have been very friendly and ready to help. Having tried spray booths at other salons in the area, the solar system is definitely my favorite. read more

My husband and I were looking for a place to get a spray tan and I came across Solar Systems website. They had the BOGO coupon so I thought "great we can both get a spray tan and only have to pay for one". We walked in and the girl at the desk was too busy on her phone to even greet us. We walked up to the counter for her to still not greet us but just say "last name"....We had never been here so I told her we wanted to do a spray tan and we had the coupon. She half-ass walked us thru the procedure like we were a total bother to her. She left me there to start and my husband waited in the lobby. When I was finished I came back out and I told me husband it was his turn and he just said "we're outta here". I had no idea what had happened. We got to the parking lot and he informed me that while I was in there she told him he had to pay an additional $45 on top of what I already paid because the BOGO is on my account and my next tan would be free. That was not on any fine print on the coupon. We should've been able to use it for one of us that day as we weren't even sure we would like the spray tan and were just "trying it out". So, he told her he was not paying $90 for 2 spray tans and that he was all set. I will also say I didn't get much of a tan and I was blotchy in some places and I did use the cream she told me to use. It is way overpriced and felt totally disrespected and the employees definitely could use some customer service training. I will NEVER go back there again. read more

Wow! This place got 5 stars in 2007... boy have they gone down hill. The equipment is far from impressive some beds are are acutally painted over to look newer!? Some days I would have gotten more color laying in my back yard for the time it took to tan. NOT IMPRESSED! There is always at least one employee high when I've gone in(at least) thought I would mention. I realize their job is not that hard, but you must be at risk in some way? It just seems unsafe to me. Probably the only reason this business has not gone under yet is due to it's size. I have to admit... it's big! BUT poor equipment(and/or maintenance) and employees on drugs...
