When he arrived and did an initial test, the piano was flat to the point that an A was registering as a G. He said he would try to tune it but with the risk that a string might snap as he did multiple passes at it. I have no idea how piano tuning works and agreed to a more complex option on his price list. He cleaned and vacuumed my piano and was super patient with all my questions. My piano was returned to proper tuning after he worked for 3 hours straight tuning by ear then playing a little bit. Hiroki-san also gave me some maintenance tips and a card to lookup my client file for future annual tunings (which I will be adhering to here on out). Semei tunes by ear, listening for harmonic beats. He used to work for Tom Lee tuning pianos, and he also tunes pianos for competitions and recordings.
