I shop here a few times a week, but this time was different. Lines were not long but I brought my own bags and gave them to the cashier, but when she was done scanning,( about 30 items) she simply pushed the groceries towards me and gave me the receipt and started on the next customer. I asked if they bag the groceries and she said "well, if you want me to". So I proceded to bag in a hurry because she started on the next customer. I don't shop there because the employees are nice, most times they don't say anything. But now, I will try another store, Trader Joe's has very nice employees and they are always willing to help. Really great prices. I actually feel SMART to shop here. In the old days, S&F was mainly where businesses shopped -- large size goods / commercial grade and packaging. Today, they still have LARGE, but also more normal size for the average consumer. Most importantly, you don't need a membership / resale # to shop here any longer. You won't find a butcher here, but they do have freshly packaged meat (as well as frozen). Lots of fresh produce, frozen and refrigerated goods, canned goods, paper goods, and a ton of bottled and packaged items. They even have BOOZE: fine liquors, wine, and beer -- lots of it, actually! We stopped in for 2 loaves whole grain bread. Upon getting them home we opened it to make a sandwich and the ends of the loaf were hard and stale. It's clearly old bread. My boyfriend ate it then said throw them out. We got a head of iceberg lettuce. It was already going bad. My Advice is to flip it over and check the underside. If it's reddish orange pinkish by the stem . It's already going bad. The Tilimook ice cream we bought. 2 mint and chip, 1 cookies and cream, 1 rocky road The ice cream is frozen so it's great. We've been customers at smart n final since they moved to the creston road location. No longer! There is an older woman that works there with gray curly hair who is absolutely the rudest, most sarcastic teller I have ever seen. I'm not the first to complain about her and am surprised she is tolerated and still works their. M first few encounters with here, I gave her the benefit of the doubt thinking she suffered from turrets or autism, but now I don't believe that to be the case. I have come to realize that she treats most customers with deliberate indifference! The unfortunate part is that other employees lean on her for advice, and she provides that advice in contrast to what I would presume managements expectations are, continually throwing management under the bus! I'm assuming other employees rely on her because there is no real management on shift or clear direction at the time. As of late there have been several newer employees with whom I would not feel comfortable sharing credit card or personal identification with. I am more than willing to discuss our experiencece in greater detail with management if they reach out to me. I will no longer recommend smart and final and will do my part to deter any friends, family or complete strangers from doing business at this location! I had the best customer service experience with a young man whose name was Ryen. He helped me to acquire a smaller amount of heavy cream which helped me to complete a project I had promised to my wife. I was going to have to buy a giant one for like 12 dollars and this guy went in the back and dug through boxes to be sure that I could get what I needed. This employee went above and beyond to help me out and you just don't see that anymore. 10/10 great employee. read more

Ghetto ass cashiers...no no no, that's an insult to the pleasant cashiers at my usual store in the hood down in LA in the city of Huntington Park. These are worse than ghetto. Trash with ahitty attitudes. They really seem like they hate their job, with an emphasis on Janice the cashier. This woman is the last person that should be placed at the Frontline of customer service. Absolute attitude and isn't shy about being vocal to customers that she's never in a hurry to move her line. That's fine but don't tell the customers that Then you even so we to mention anything regarding any kind of related customer service related, and she literally physically melts before your eyes faster than the Wicked Witch of the West when wet. Would I still shop here? Yeah I'll put up with her stupid attitude because it's convenient to shop here, but if Smart and Final customer relationships reads this , you should know that there are some customers that would not come back because of staff attitude, particularly the ones at the front that face people. I understand that they deal with different people everyday all day and some of the customers may have horrible attitudes, but that's no reason to become indifferent towards other customers. I really don't like leaving negative reviews for anyone, but companies need to be held accountable for what they do or don't do. I've been going here since the day it opened and I can say that the standards here are as low as I have ever seen in a grocery store. Most of the employees really try, as they need the job, but what they have to work with is abysmal. The produce selection is usually poor and the quality is disgusting. They have big signs promoting their "local" produce so I emailed the corporate office to ask them what produce was local. Their reply was "Thanks for contacting Smart & Final with your inquiry. Product from California.. We get berries, vegetables from the Central Coast. Soft Fruit, Grapes & melons from the Fresno area." Pretty vague...It looks to me like most things are from other countries. Needless to say, even though I live less than a mile away, I go there only when really desperate. Therefore, until you change your regional management, dismiss your purchasers or buyers for your store, dismiss your local management and supervisors and provide suitable training, higher expectations and better treatment to your employees I'd rather make a run to Bakersfield for groceries. So, this place has been open for a few months now and I've been in at various times, early morning, late, peak hours...etc. I have truly tried to give it a fair chance and when I write reviews, I make them as honest as possible in hopes management sees it or just to help out the community. That being said, I am sadly disappointed in this store. I wasn't ever expecting a Von's caliber replacement but this just mediocre at best. Each time I've been in they are almost always out of the yogurt I like, I always ask if there's any in back..no. The response I usually get is, "we just can't keep on the shelf fast enough." Ok, supply/demand issue, I don't fault the clerk for it. The fruit is subpar....what is up with 99% of it being from Mexico?! I prefer local produce, ya know...cause it helps our economy and shows the store's effort to find local farmers. The service is hit and miss. Sometimes the checkers are friendly and talkative and other times they are preoccupied talking to each other about "checker issues" in front of the customers. FYI guys...we don't care, we're just here to get groceries, keep it in the breakroom or in an aisle empty of people. This evening really topped it off for me. The lady who was supposed to check had gone missing and the filler person paged her several times overhead. When she finally emerged, she looked hurried and distracted and said something like, "motherf**** doesn't give a sh**." Ummmm....ok. That's unusual but whatever. Then she kept moving the plastic barricade that separates items on the belt incorrectly. The lady in front me still had about 10 items that needed scanning and the checker seemed so confused by this. I grabbed my one item off the belt to better help her figure it out. Then she scans my item (bottle of alcohol) and there was no "hello", "good evening"... just a rude half laugh and, "uh, yeah, I need your ID." I'm pushing 40 and expect to be carded every time but not in a way that makes me feel like some degenerate. She was just so flippin rude, I couldn't believe it! On top of all that, she tried to scan the items behind mine until the lady behind me corrected her. The whole experience made me feel like I was in the Twilight Zone. I will come here out of necessity but regular shopping trips will be reserved for the cheaper, well stocked do-it-yourself place! It's hard for me to not be a fan of Smart & Final. With their cheaper meats, varied selection of produce, infinite selection of wine, and memorable customer service for all the right reasons it's hard not to love what Smart & Final provides. That being said, this S&F extra! is fairly new to this side of the neighborhood and thankfully takes up the space that the hellscape that was Haggen's used to inhabit. New store means a lot of kinks to work out in the first couple of weeks. I went to the store the second week that it opened and found that the customer service was lagging. I gave them a lot of leeway on it, but found this worth nothing: I was ignored by my cashier even when I asked her questions, employees were rushing everywhere which led me to assume they were understaffed, the produce section had been nearly wiped clean (I went at like 10am), and they weren't being restocked at a quick enough pace, when I needed help I was ignored. All in all, just kinks to work out. Now the layout of the store is a Von's copycat. Do not expect much from the bakery section. S&F does not have a fresh bakery service like Albertson's. Instead, it mimics Food for Less in varied selection, but it's quality remains about the same. The beer/wine selection is pretty large. They made great use of the space and is definitely much larger than the Spring St. Selection. I also greatly appreciated how much room was between the aisles and how well lit the space was. I like that they added more disabled parking to the front of the store, and made the walkways a little bit more disability friendly, but when I walked inside I did not see any motorized scooter options available. Most grocery places have a designated space for them, and there was just none. Now maybe people were using them or maybe they weren't, but it's good to keep in mind that it may not be the most accessible option for you at this store. Also, here are my S&F secrets: - The sour cream for whatever reason, is in the back aisle of the produce section. I found that where it was located ruined the flow of the store (that's important to grocery stores) and was just odd placement. Much like how the cookies and crackers are across the frozen aisle, and the water and soft drinks are on opposite ends of the store. - They are EBT/WIC friendly. I know it's on the door, but it doesn't hurt for you to know that through this medium. - No matter where you are parked in the parking, no matter if it's raining or the sun is beating down on your back, they have strategically placed grocery cart aisles all over the parking lot. It's very helpful and convenient! - They have a really good, reasonably priced organic produce selection. read more

Only reason I gave it a one star because you can't put zero. I see the store has only two stars. My husband went there last night and bought about 50.00 worth of groceries. Including a tomato and a package of bacon. Well when he got home he realized the checker didn't put his bacon or tomato in the bag. We are not scammers or dishonest. He went back to the store and they refused to give him the items or his money back. So he had to buy them again. The checker said she couldn't do anything about it and when my husband talked to the manager he also said he couldn't do anything. My husband had a receipt and the checker he originally went to already went home. Then when he bought the items again the checker could not make change. She kept insisting he gave her something else. And kept arguing with him. She owed him two dollars change. I hope the company reads this and makes it right. If not I will not shop here ever again. Dumb people work here. And that explains why there are hardly any customers in there when I go. It is a convenience for me to shop here for a few things. But I would rather drive further and go to Food for Less or Albertsons. Beware people. Cheaters working here. I will repost if they make it good. read more

Don't buy the big package of meat there, especially the pork! I should know better from previous experiences. I bought 2 large bulk packages of boneless pork. I opened the first one and it smelled like death. The second one wasn't as bad but stunk. There were numerous store stickers covering the past due date and I know why! Instead of wasting my time and trying to return it, an hour round trip, I had to throw it out as the smell overwhelmed my kitchen so I wrapped it up in plastic and luckily a neighbor was going to the dump and he threw it out for me. This was the third time over the past couple years buying meat in bulk at Smart and Final that was rancid. Yeah, I know I should have stopped after the first time. I can guarantee you it will be the very last time! Telling my experience, I found out from numerous people they had the same problem mostly with pork and some with chicken. Don't waste your time going here, drive less than a mile down the road and go to Food 4 Less where they have good quality and locally raised pork. read more

This is the closet grocery store to our house so I come here often. Each time I experience a very long wait to be checked out. I don't know what the issue is with the cashiers (they have all been very friendly) but they really need to speed things up. As far as the store's products, the produce section is ok. I have shopped here since it opened and been a loyal customer. Today I decided to change my regular grocery store. The customer service is abysmal. I was in a hurry, got in a checkout line with 2 customers in front of me. Customer 1 was taking a long time and my line started to grow. A third cashier opened up and asked the person behind me to switch to their line. Customer 2 had an extremely complex ring-up. I had loaded all of my items on the conveyer and 15 minutes into my wait I asked a manager if I should move to another line. He said yes, so I loaded my items back into my cart and changed lines ! I don't think the employees have any regard for allowing customers to have a pain-free shopping experience. read more

First I want to commend you for serving our city through this pandemic. In fact, you were great until the past couple weeks. Today in particular I took my 91 year old mom into your market because of the safety measures you have in place "mandatory masks" specifically. Unfortunately, you no longer have someone managing the sanitizer stations for the carts, and no one is managing the mandatory masks. Not only were kids running through the store saying out loud "I am not wearing no mask, I am not wearing no mask!" You had employees not wearing masks. I was very uncomfortable and got out as fast as I could trying to avoid all the people, which were many, that had no masks. It's a simple ask and I specifically brought her to your store because of your safety measures.... I won't do that again. I am not as concerned for my safety but if my mother gets infected it will kill her. She has been quarantined for 3 months it was nice to get her out. I guess I picked the wrong store. Absolutely horrible place to shop for groceries! Produce mostly comes from ALL over the globe mainly Mexico and China, the dairy products are often out dated and their "First Street" items which I was told is their company brand is absolute garbage...esp the coffee. This locations only saving grace is the meat dept which never disappoints me. That being said, this location for the most part has shorter lines than the other smart and final stores i have been to. The bakery is absolutely wonderful. They have grown the produce and over the months, week by week things look great. I don't feel like I have to shop at Albertson's or Trader's - they have upgraded their options in all categories. Their customer service improves at each visit. They are more connected to opening check out lanes and pay attention. The flowers are out of this world. I'm so glad they are there; super convenient and if you look you will find options to what you are use to buying. The cheese selections have improved over the weeks and their crackers are very reasonable. Wish they would carry more sugar free popsicles but there is always food for less for that.
