I've been going to the Smart & Final for years. It's a great grocery store if you're looking to stock up on things similar to Costco. Selection is much smaller than a Costco, but you can get some great deals here, especially on meat. The staff isn't really the most helpful, but I've learned just to get what I need, and move on. What I really like about this place is that the produce is always fresh and it's relatively easy to find what I'm looking for. I can usually get in, and get what I need, in about 10 to 15 minutes. Again, if you like shopping in bulk, this is really the place to go. You can save some good money on buying in bulk without the added membership fees. read more

I visited this store on Oct. 30, 2024. I stopped by to grab some cups and a container. I got to the registered and the bag of cups I wanted to purchase was priced at $17.99. I told the cashier the price tag on the shelf shows the cups as $4.99. He said it could have been misplaced by a different customer. I informed the cashier that I grabbed 2 packs of cups and there are still several packs of cups still left on the shelf. I said I can go take a picture for him. He said he will call someone to check the pricing. I waited by the register until someone came. Diana, the service manager, came and I explained the whole situation to her. We both walked to the aisle the cups were in. I showed her the shelf of cups with the price tag. The bags of cups were infront of the price tag showing $4.99. Diana states the price tags are always to the left of the items. See photo. I told her that her store needs to fix their price tags because the tag is on a totally different shelf. I asked if she can honor the price of $4.99 because of the price tag is on a different shelf. It's not even on the shelf the cups are one. She said that is how Smart N Final does their signs and they cant change it. I asked her if she can honor the price and she said yes. We walked back to the register. When she was about to ring my items up. She noticed I had 2 bags of cups. These cups were sitting at the register the whole time. She said she can only give me the pricing on one bag. She cannot do 2 bags of cups at the price of $4.99. I told her, it is not my fault her company does not line up price tags with their items. I asked to speak to someone higher. She called and Barbara, assistant manager, came to help. I took Barbara back to show her the price tag on the shelf. She said that is how they do their price tags on the shelf and cannot give me any price adjustment at all. I told her the other lady said she can only do it on one. Then she changed her decision and said she can only adjust one. I told her I need 2 bags of cups. She continued to say no. I ask for someone higher than her and she said he is not available. That is when I took down all their names minus the cashier because he was nice and respectful. The manager who could not speak to me is called Joel. I informed Barbara I will be emailing corporate in regards to the service I received at this Smart & Final. Note: I have been to this Smart & Final several times. I have always received bad customer service due to their pricing and advertisements. Their price tags are always in the wrong spot. If you don't have to shop here don't. The dude and I came to this Smart and Final in July 2020 as the dude wanted to make his own snow cones with condensed milk like Pelicans in Clovis, Ca. They require face mask upon entry as most stores these days. I really don't go to Smart and Final unless I need to get bulk candy for my kids for work but since things are virtual there's no need. However, the dude and I got some syrups to make our own snow cones which I got sugar free watermelon and he got regular bubble gum and another flavor. The store was clean and they had some sales going on. We ended up getting snacks in bulk and some candy as we rummage through the aisles. Anywho, they have everything you can imagine in bulk even alcohol. They were pretty stocked up on essential items like toilet tissue, paper towels etc The staff was very friendly and it was a pleasant experience will be back as needed! read more

I just moved about a year ago from LA and you can tell the difference from over there to here . People for the most part are very friendly and nice . With that being said before the pandemic I enjoyed coming to this location and during as well . They are fully stocked , clean and very friendly . If you have issues they try to help the best they can . I also enjoy that they have a lot of vegan options and the prices are not that bad . I notice that they are trying to expand and hope they carry even more vegan brands at this location . The big plus is making me feel safe during this pandemic by requiring people to wear a mask . I don't mind wearing it because I do care and respect other people's health ( I have breathing problems but I suck it up ) . Especially because if we continue this we can hopefully ( by seeing other people's comments I doubt it ) go back to normal sooner . It's like covering your mouth while you sneeze ... it's just common courtesy. If you don't want to wear a mask while you shop just Instacart ( just saying ) . FYI no hate on the last comments just stating my opinion. Anyways thank you to the workers and store for working hard during these crazy times . I stopped in today to pick up plates, cups, forks, and napkins. Family coming in this weekend for a Baby Shower and many staying with us. Of course, I ended up getting 3-4 items not on my list as well. I purchased Pink and Blue dinner and dessert plates as well as dinner and dessert napkins. The forks are in a different aisle, next to the white plates and napkins. Suggestion: add forks to the end cap or aisle with non-white plates. I purchased a bag of 100 clear forks and there is a choice to purchase white for the same price. The store is clean and the frozen food section is immense. I wished I had more time to look but alas, I had more Baby Shower errands to run. 4/5 stars because there were only two registers open at 1:30pm and one was a 10 item or less only register. I was in line behind three people and there were two people behind me. Finally the woman at the register called for assistance and I moved to the second register. read more

There were three check stands open, which is typically one or two more than I usually experience! There were only two people ahead of me and I didn't wait long at all. Love this place! I try to eat healthy so I'm always in the market for a resource that caters to my needs. The produce section is amazing, fresh and competitive with other larger stores. For those of you who like alcohol, you have a special corner to satisfy your hearts desire. Also, they have cooked chickens! Yay!!! The help is very professional and knowledgeable of the content of the store which saves me time. Another facet of of this gem is the meat department, it carries a wide range of protein and the prices are just as good as any place. I have to shop here all the time for Instacart, and while I love all of the helpful employees I have a real issue with the produce department. Time and time again I come in and find bad produce. When I say bad I mean WAYY past due. Roma tomato's with black spots and some green and white starting to form, bell peppers getting very soft and wrinkly, almost half the stock of ginger with green mold on it, fruits that should've been taken off the shelves dats or probably weeks ago. This isn't from one visit but multiple visits I see all these issues with PRODUCE. Everything else in store is fine. I've even seen this at a couple of the other smart and finals in town as well. This picture of the peaches I took YESTERDAY, and when I took this there was literally an employee right behind me stocking the tomato counter. You could see this mold from a mile away. For peaches to get wrinkled and soft and get to the point of WHITE mold it had to had been sitting there for weeks. Please do better I don't enjoy shopping when there's mostly bad produce and have to advise customers to shop elsewhere when they order their groceries. read more

I went into the store to purchase the Pepsi 6 pack bottles that were on the AD for 2.49 using my digital coupon. The Dr. Pepper rang up the regular price at 4.49 although the sale price on the shelf sticker said this was an eligible product to receive the discount. I took a picture to show the cashier (Emily) but she had to call the Manager, Viviana, to override it. Viviana was extremely rude and said this wasn't one of the products that was on sale. I showed her the picture and she reluctantly adjusted the price with no apology for the inconvenience. I also mentioned that since it rung up wrong they had a price scan guarantee program that said if the items scans for the wrong price that the customer would get it free. As Viviana was abruptly walking away she told Emily to take one item off with an attitude. Emily was not able to take the free item off and she didn't even want to call Viviana back to help her because of how rude she was the first time. Emily proceeded to call Viviana over the phone intercom and told her the situation but the cashier Emily said that Viviana was no longer going to honor the guarantee program so I would not get the incorrectly priced item for free as your policy clearly states. I have a family of 6 and I will never be going back there again and I hope this review serves as a warning to other shoppers. I would have gave them a 0 but that wasn't an option.. As far as Viviana for a "manager" she definitely lacks in customer service skills. Maybe that doesn't matter to Smart N Final. I will fully admit, I liked the former grocery store at this location more. Fresh and Easy. In my opinion, it was the greatest grocery store of all time, carrying very unique items and unbelievably great prepared meals. But for whatever reason, people didn't give the place a chance and they all closed for good. Really truly pathetic that people didn't shop there. Maybe because of the Union thugs always picketing in front of the store, but I'd tell them where to shove their liberal Democrat propaganda, where the sun doesn't shine. However, I really do like this Smart and Final store. I almost never shopped at the old Smart and Final because all you could get was bulk. This is much more of a regular grocery store though and the prices are pretty much right in line with other non-Union stores like Walmart and Winco. My main grocery shopping place is the Neighborhood Walmart at Shaw and Fowler because of the awesome online shopping and grocery pick up but Smart and Final Extra is a place I also often shop at. One thing I can say is better at Smart and Final is that they aren't constantly out of items for months on end like Walmart. I've not once left this store without what I came in for and the employees are always friendly. The only thing that truly gets on my nerves is a certain young female checker that cards me EVERY SINGLE time I buy a bottle of Vodka. I'm 48 and look every bit of it. I'm old enough to be her father and have three kids old enough to buy the Vodka for me. I understand if it happened once but when I shop here I come after work in my work uniform with the company's name and with my name on it. You'd think after once or twice she'd remember I'm pushing 50 but hell no. Maybe I should be flattered that someone actually thinks I look under 21 but for God's sake, carding a 48 year old man with nearly solid gray hair over and over and over and over again is absolutely ridiculous beyond belief and I have started stopping at Griffen's Liquor Store down the street after work if I want to buy alcohol because of this even though I have to pay a couple bucks more. Come on, I know you have to be careful not to sale alcohol to minors but I turned 21 in 1992. Let's cut the crap on this one otherwise I will stop coming in all together. None of the other checkers even think twice when I go through their lines with alcohol. read more

I've always had a pleasant experience here but today my husband and son came for some groceries and the manager chased my family down and asked them to leave because they didn't have masks on. Now they have lifted the mask requirement in the City but this guy didn't care and basically told my husband to leave and he can refuse service to anyone. Others weren't wearing masks and he didn't say anything to them - just picked my family out for his personal attacks for no good reason. I'll never shop here again. read more

1 star for the employee today. Everyone at this store is always exceptional, except one woman in particular. She chided me for having more than 10 items in the express lane, in which in actuality I only had 10. That isn't really the issue about today. My issue is the lady in front of me, that cashier told her that she'll ring her up twice so she can get the discount on the Pepsi items, not to worry she'll take care of it, while all of us waited. Then she chides me for having too many items, in which I didn't, saying its an express lane, after she takes forever ringing another customer up twice for the Pepsi deal. I knew the "extra" meant something. I went in last night to get a cold chicken for my dog. They didn't have any so I went and got 3 packets of meat next to the section and a champagne to celebrate my new job. I checked out just fine and went home and that is when the disaster happens. I dropped my bags getting out of the car and was using 2 bags. I smashed the bottle on my driveway. I was upset and can't believe it was the first time that had happened. I waited the next day to call and inquire about the replacement policy and the manager said they only replace if I broke it in their lot. I think that is very disappointing to neighborhood customers such as me. I was honest and a regular at the store now I have to re-think not buying stuff like I used to. I was shopping at your Porterville location long before this store opened here. I have to deal with hardship and bullshit people in this world, I will take my business elsewhere. I would not recommend this store after a bad shopping experience. I recently had a cesarean birth so I decided to shop in the store with my newborn baby in her stroller to make it easier for me. So long story short I'm putting my food into the bottom of the stroller and I had an food oil spill. Me being a good person I told a manager and he looks at me as if I'm inconveniencing him by asking him to clean it and he didn't even offer to replace the oil I had to ask him. Then the cashier was giving me a hard time because was not using a food cart telling me my bags are going to tear if I hanged them from stroller so a nice guy behind me gives me a bag. Meanwhile the store manager right behind me says out loud in front of everyone and holding up a sign to his employees keep smiling while laughing. What kind of manager makes fun of its customers.
