First time trying this place out. Ordered delivery on Friday at around 11:30 AM. Strawberry Cupcake - Overall cupcake is heavy. Cake is very moist, dense, & heavy. Cream is dense & heavy also. Strawberry flavor is light, but evidently homemade & not from a box. Nice. Lemon Drop Cupcake - This cupcake is also heavy. Cake is drier than the strawberry, but not terribly dry - doesn't stick to your throat. Lemon cream & jelly is quite artificial tasting. Not a fan - there are better lemon cupcakes at other bakeries. Red Velvet Cupcake - Overall cupcake is heavy again. Cake is moist, but not as moist as the strawberry. Icing is very cream cheesy, but also more cheesecake-like flavor? Sweetness is mild - not as sweet as many other red velvet cakes a I've had, & the chocolate flavor is also mild. Underwhelmed. Wedding Cake Cupcake - Cupcake is heavy. Strange flavor. Not what I was expecting for "wedding" cake. Doesn't taste like any almond flavor I've ever had. Not sure what flavor it is...maybe toasted almond? Cake is a little...sour? Like mild sourdough? Not a fan. Would not recommend. At least the cake was moist. Overall, all cupcakes were quite heavy - both in actual weight feeling as well as in the stomach. I had about 2-3 bites of each of the four cupcakes & I was quite full after just tasting them. Not really what I was looking for in a cupcake since I typically like mine lighter. Flavors were pretty mild. Cake texture was mostly moist except the lemon & very dense. Cream was also quite dense. I'm not sure if I would recommend this place or go back. I had a craving for something small and sweet near the house. Rather than hit the quick food stores, decided to try this place. It was early evening about 45 minutes before they closed. Plenty of parking and easy to find! Walking in, they have available cupcake flavors on display. I saw they also have ice cream, but I didn't see any flavors I wanted at that moment and to be honest, the remaining flavors of cupcakes didn't excite me. However, I was on a mission and had to make do. I opted for Chocoholic, a Hot Fudge and Peanut butter. The cakes on all 3 were chocolate. The icings were really good and the artisan effort was good for high volume. The cake portion was rich and full of deep chocolate flavor. Very moist! So I tried a new cupcake place today, and it was everything I could've hoped for! Smallcakes is located in a shopping center where there is plenty of parking. I found it on Yelp by searching sweets while shopping nearby. They offer a variety of treats to satisfy any sweet tooth - homemade ice cream, cupcakes, shakes, iced brownies and boba tea! I selected the red velvet, wedding cake and coconut cupcakes. I also splurged on a brownie frosted in white buttercream and a mango black tea. The cupcakes were super moist and the frosting tasted perfect - not too sweet. They were all really good, but the coconut one was freaking delicious. The mango fruit tea was also really good. Again, not too sweet. Is it bad that I already have my next visit planned out?? Definitely grabbing more cupcakes and trying the boba milk tea and lime sorbet. I sent a FB message in a semi desperate plea to get my husband a bday cake. He made me promise not to make a big deal about his bday. Lol, I didn't pay attention. I was thinking maybe they'd do a Pineapple icing design on a cupcake. Yet, Michelle told me they have their own version of Pineapple Upside Down cake, and that would be something they could do by the next day. I I picked it up next day, and I was THRILLED ! It was so cute! Perfect size for two. It could probably serve 4-6, but we were so glad to not have to share. While I was there, I couldn't resist the cupcakes. I'd bought cupcakes in the past to bring over to a cookout, and once for my dessert contribution to Thanksgiving. The turkey designs were a big hit. And the kiddos loved that they didn't have to eat pumpkin pie. Once adults starting helping, they were gone long before the pies! So, I got my husband a Red Velvet cupcake too. His 2nd favorite. As you walk in the smell of fresh cake baking makes you want to try every cupcake. The Oreo cupcake was the best ever... deliciously double chocolate and very moist. Strawberry was just as good. I had Lunar New Year celebration coming up and asked if they could make cupcakes for the occasion. I told Michelle it was the year of the "Rat" and it was a custom to give red envelopes. I've been waiting for this cupcakery near my home to open for weeks now, and it was well worth the anticipation. I was greeted immediately and told about their daily cupcake flavors as well as their permanent menu items. All of the cupcakes were decorated and iced differently, which is a quality that I personally really enjoy. They also have an array of ice cream flavors that you can sample and freshly baked cookies made to turn into ice cream sandwiches (or frosting sandwiches), if your hungry heart so desires. The Chocolate Cream was okay, but not my favorite. It looked and tasted exactly like a gourmet version of the classic Hostess Chocolate Cupcake. Very cute, but I would have liked to see more cream on the inside. The Birthday Cake was my favorite of the two and I would order it again. The vanilla bean cake was very good and high quality. The buttercream frosting topped with a mountain of rainbow sprinkles was quite literally the icing on the cake. I do prefer a more home-made tasting buttercream without the artificial, hyper-sweet after-taste. The cupcakes were $3.75 each, so definitely on the pricier side. The decor of the restaurant is girly Texan chic. Cute place to grab a cupcake with/for friends, family, and kids. Just three stars for the cupcakes because I've had much tastier for a more competitive price point at places like Moonlight Cakes in Bedford, TX. As far as cupcakes go, I'm an easy gal to please as long as you have moist cakes and an alternative to chocolate. I got the wedding cake and was very pleased. The size of the cupcake was jumbo in comparison to the mini ones that are standard in DC. I loved the almond flavor of the cake but what I loved most is that it wasn't dry. I usually remove about 40% of frosting from most cupcakes because I'm all about the cake itself. I had to remove about 50% of the frosting on this one because there was a ton! Even though there was a lot of frosting, the frosting was light and fluffy the way old fashioned frosting should be. After eating one cupcake here, I was stuffed! Definitely a good bargain and will quench your sweet tooth read more

Mav and I were running around for work stuff on a Monday and decided to drop in for a quick snack. They had a nice variety of delicious looking cupcakes and ice cream flavors, so it made it a bit hard to choose. We had both eaten our fill of pastries in the last few days so we opted for ice cream. The Cookie Monster called my name with its bright blue color and two types of cookies. It was so good and the lady behind the counter was super friendly. If you can't decide on a flavor, they have little tasting spoons that will help! All ice cream and cupcakes are made in house from scratch.
