I was having lunch close by and this place caught my eye. Um, cupcakes! Yes please!! The space is warm and inviting. The staff was friendly and helpful with their menu. The photos I have here don't do this place justice. Per the menu, they boast 12 regular flavors and then have a few seasonal and items that vary by the week. I went with the almond wedding cupcake. Delicious, perfect, airy cupcakes and even more perfect ice cream and sorbets. The ice creams are nice and strong, something I've always looked for in an ice cream so you can still taste it after your tounge is half frozen. I can't get enough and I've been going once or twice a week, and probably will be more once the summer hits. The coffee, chocolate, raspberry, and strawberry ice creams are awesome. The cupcake and icing is a nice sweet pick-me-up, I'd say on the level of a caramel frappe. Absolutely adore this place. Every single time I have been, by myself, with my daughter, with my entire family, the customer service is spectacular. The father of the baker is usually there helping out and is kind, genuine and friendly. The Baker herself has come out and chatted with us as well and she is so sweet too! I have tried most all of the cupcakes, but the one I crave and will go in to just grab one for my own after dinner treat is the chocolate cream! If you like chocolate, it's a MUST! One of the things I really appreciate is there are always seasonal flavors which gives you a chance to try a different item, if you want. My review only pertains to their pup cakes. My sister went to the location in Kirkwood and brought Oat's 2 pup cakes to try. They were in a cute pink box and the cupcakes were mini, frosted on the top with a miniature milk bone dog treat. Now milk bone aside, because I do not feed those to my baby, the cupcake was soo cute. I was informed that the cupcake was made from their carrot cake base and edible for human consumption. If you know me, then you know my fur-babies are my world. I'm really picky about what I give them and I have to be able to consume it as well. I opt for human grade, preferably organic ingredients. I happened to be in Chesterfield Valley and Yelped Small Cakes and saw there was a Chesterfield location close by. I called to place an order for pup cakes to secure dessert for the baby. I spoke with Natalie who was very nice and set aside numerous pup cakes for pickup later. I was grabbing cupcakes for my coworker's dog and my baby. I arrived later in the afternoon for pick-up and my bag was waiting on the counter. The shop is quaint and to the point. There are cupcake displays lining the counter and towards the back they have a freezer section that holds their homemade ice-creams. As soon as I walked into the shop I was acknowledged and greeted with a smile. The gentleman assisting me said he was the father and it was his daughters shop. He had the best personality and customer service a person could ask for. He was tickled that I only came into the shop to grab an order for my fur-baby. I told him I was tempted with all the beautiful cupcakes and flavors. He offered me a sample of their raspberry ice-cream. It was raspberry and another flavor I couldn't remember. It was absolutely delicious! Since it was hot on Saturday I settled on ice cream for myself. When I arrived home with the goods, I had to immediately give Oatmeal a treat. WHYYYYYYY when I broke open that cupcake was it incredibly moist?!?! I was plating it for Oat's and the smell was incredible and since the moist cake was slightly stuck on my fingers, of course I had to taste it. I was soooo impressed with the flavor and quality put into a treat for a fur-baby. I went on their website to inquire about dog birthday cakes and sent an email. I received an immediate response from Natalie regarding order details and pricing. Oat's has a July birthday and I like to plan ahead. I also like out of the box cake options for her. I love a good carrot cake and to be able to share that same love with my baby, warms my heart. They offer a carrot cake pup cake with cream cheese peanut butter frosting.........WHAAATTTTT!!!!! We stopped in today from out of town. The gentleman proudly told us of which family members made each of the beautiful confections. The cupcakes are delicious. The woman who waited on me had to be the owner because she was extremely enthusiastic about the product and very friendly. Since I missed the first four months not knowing Smallcakes was here, I'm trying to make up for it by going two days in a row. Of course I just had to go back today because I didn't take any photos to share. (Insert sarcasm here) Clean, inviting, bright colors, great display of cupcakes with descriptions of each, great lighting, cute seasonal decorations and friendly staff. The cupcakes are moist and full of flavor. At approximately $4 per cupcake you can take one home "for a friend." My sister wanted a cupcake/icing combination that they didn't have...no problem here...they just zipped in the back and made her just what she wanted. How she came up with something other than the dozen plus choices available is beyond me but now we know that if you can name it, they can make it, even special seasonal (Halloween at the moment) super cute cupcakes.
