The cupcakes are pretty and she offers a lot of unique flavors, salted Carmel, lemonade, birthday cake and more. She also offers brownies. I purchased two brownies and one cupcake. I've been to this store multiple times. This last time (4/14/23), the customer service was amazing. She was super sweet and suggested their new cake slices. I originally went for cupcakes, but I couldn't resist the strawberry cake slice. I couldn't wait to get home. The strawberry cake slice was HUGE & tasted amazing. I also got cupcakes & they were good too. The brownie was kind of blah. I will definitely not get that again. It wasn't special. The flavors didn't pop. It did nothing for me. This is a cute shop to grab something sweet! I paid alittle over $9 for both the cupcakes I got (one special for the week, one non). The service was great, just one person around but she was patient and helpful. I enjoyed the margarita cupcake but the lemon we weren't much of a fan of. Its got quite a bit of seating inside so you can sit and chat while enjoying if you'd like. I'd come back and try another flavor! These cupcakes are literally everything! My hubs does not usually like sweets. He does not usually like cake. But these cupcakes, he was allllllll about them. Cake/cupcakes/all the delish is really my favorite food group. So it's not much for me to say a cupcake is stellar. But when he says he thought something was phenomenal, I stop and listen! He literally loves these cupcakes! We tried out the cupcakes via delivery the first time and they arrived absolutely perfectly! Their cupcake holders are thoughtfully designed. I had a weird experience at the location with ordering going in one evening- the employee seemed pretty grumpy but was super bubbly to the people after me as I was leaving the store. It was 30 minutes to close, so maybe it was just a bad night. We all have bad days. But the cupcakes were still amazing! I came here on my Saturday night and received the most terrible customer service. When we walked through the door nobody was behind the counter for a good 5 minutes. After standing there for the duration, the worker arrived while on her cellphone and asked how she could help us. The frosting on the cupcakes is way too sweet! Everything with buttercream was dried out and just tasted super sugary. The cupcakes itself were kinda crusty and dry on the outside. The cakes in the jar were the best as they cake was still moist and not as dry as the cupcakes. I've been planning to visit Smallcakes Cupcakery for a while now and was finally able to get over there. I was eating at a nearby restaurant and decided to walk over here afterwards for some dessert. I'm certainly glad I made the short trip since the cupcakes were delicious! They have numerous flavors so it took us forever to determine which ones to purchase. Luckily the employee working was so patient and friendly. We eventually decided on the banana pudding, sundae, wedding cake, and chocolate cupcakes. We liked each of the flavors. The banana pudding cupcake was not my favorite but I liked the sundae cupcake. I would have liked more flavor from the chocolate cupcake but it was still good. When next in this plaza, I want to return to try some of their other flavors. Other information: the cupcakes are reasonably priced (pricy but expected for a cupcakery in Cary) and the large plaza seems to have ample parking but it does get busy. read more

Talk about a huge disappointment! I've been using Small Cakes for some time, but they have lost a loyal customer. I ordered cupcakes for our big tailgate party and they look horrible! Next time I will use Harris Teeter for my event needs. First of all I was told on Facebook messenger that they would do the NFL decorated cupcakes for $4 each. However when I came to the store to order in person they wouldn't honor that price. So I had to pay $4.50 each. I was in Raleigh for two days to train educators using my children's literacy company's curriculum this summer with federally funded programs for the poorest youth who need all day support and enrichment. I live in California. On day one, I ordered 5 DOZEN mini cupcakes to offer the teachers after lunch. Spent over $100. I also ordered and pre-paid for three dozen minis for day two. When day two was cancelled in light of the horrific tragedy in Texas, I went to Smallcakes and asked the lovely girl working there, Soraya, if they had started making the day 2 order yet. She said they had not made them yet and that they wouldn't until mornIng. I told her we could cancel that order and I asked if she needed my credit card back to issue the refund. She told me, "we changed our policy because of Covid. People were canceling orders and saying it was Covid related and I think they will only do a store credit now, so I have to call my manager because I know they changed the refund policy." She called the manager, Theo, and handed the store phone to me. I was kind to Theo, told him the situation and that this lovely employee informed me that they had decided at Smallcakes not to issue refunds four orders they had not baked yet, but only a store credit. First he told me that the employee was mistaken and that the change in the refund policy was unrelated to Covid. I told him that I assumed that was true since modifying a refund policy because the store doesn't believe that peoples Covid related cancellations of orders was legitimate, was probably illegal, but was certainly unethical. I don't imagine anyone would mind a store credit if they live near small cakes. At that point, Theo got incredibly intense, was aggressive and even verbally abusive toward me, telling me, "You don't get to threaten us! And the refund policy is that you can have a store credit and you don't get to tell us how to run our business..." He said many other things but that's the relevant part. I stayed calm because I was in the store with a teacher assisting me in the training day, and any other customer could have walked in at any moment. I'm a 52-year-old woman with a 30+ year career in film and television. I founded and have run a children's education company for the last 10 years. I have lots of employees. I used to produce independent movies and I have in my career employed many people. I explained to Theo that I would like to talk to the owner, Eve, but that if I can't, it would likely be best for him to issue the small refund for cupcakes they hadn't made yet since I lived in Los Angeles and could not benefit from the store credit. If I lived in Raleigh, I would be happy to take the store credit as the cupcakes are delicious. I explain to him that in light of his inappropriate shouting at me and the ridiculous policy of the store to refuse a refund for items they had not prepared yet, that I will take actions that will create a lot more problems than the $60 refund would. Once again, he shouted at me to not threaten him and then he said, "do you think you're the only one who has called and threatened to hurt the store with yelp reviews and social media posts?" I'm not quite sure why they would have this problem coming up enough that he would mention it but seems they do. I am no lawyer, but I have played many lawyers on TV and a law student as part of the main cast in the movie legally blonde. I can guarantee that Judge Judy would issue my refund and tell Theo to take some sort of workshop in customer relations. Soraya, the lovely girl working the store the time, told me that Theo is new to the store and it just been transferred. That she had just met him. He never should've told a new customer that his employee was misinformed. There were many other ways he could've handled this most importantly, issuing me a refund and asking me to post something positive instead of negative. This is Manager skills 101 which he clearly does not have. I was given a phone number and an email address for the owner, by Soraya, and assuming I got the number right, I left Eve a message as well as sent her an email. I have heard no response. Of course I disputed the charge with my credit card company and this will become a headache for Eve. I will also research any business bureau I can in the state of North Carolina abs report every detail, Most importantly the abusive aggressive tone Theo took with me on our call. There were two witnesses to my own energy on the other end of the phone. All for a simple refund for three dozen mini Cupcakes that no one had begun to bake for someone who lives 5 hours away by airplane. SO UNNECESSARY. read more

(I never thought I'd say this) too much frosting I had the red velvet which was good but the frosting was a little too sweet. My daughter had the Birthday Cake which I think she only chose because of the colorful sprinkles and she actually ONLY ate the frosting. My son had the Pink Vanilla. I tried a bite of it and I think I was disappointed because my brain was expecting strawberry flavored icing but it was just vanilla dyed pink. They also have gluten free options, cookies, and brownies. I will definitely go back and try some other flavors. Great quality and good flavors as expected; however, compared to like-places, their selections are feeling a bit routine, much like Dunkin Donuts. I was recently craving a cupcake and after reading all the Yelp reviews decided Smallcakes was the place to go! I specifically wanted yellow cake with chocolate frosting, I know that's in their rotation and was hoping it wasn't sold out. Parking can be a bit congested over there, but you can find a spot you may just have to walk a bit. The employee behind the counter was friendly and they had my cupcake in stock! The cake was moist and delicious, the chocolate frosting left a little to be desired for me. It wasn't chocolaty enough for being a black and white cupcake. I got the seasonal Elvis for my husband and he loved it! It was a banana cake with peanut butter. This is the third time I have placed a personalized order from smallcakes. All three times I got personalized mini cupcakes, with pictures printed on them, they were good that's why I kept coming back. However the reason they earned no more than 3 stars is that Everytime I placed an online order it was never "thank you for your order, your order will be ready for pickup when you need it", they always have to email back with something, for example for my daughters birthday, even though I submitted the order 3 weeks ahead, they emailed back saying we have high workload and we are not sure we can honor your birthday cake order, we'll let you know, and then they got back and said no, despite the fact that I asked the staff member who was physically at the shop and she said we need a 48 hours heads up for a personalized birthday cake without fondant and that's exactly what I was requesting. And the last order which I just picked up yesterday (submitted two weeks ahead also, because I knew they will come back with something) they came back with "we just want to let you know that we can't guarantee the quality or that the pictures will fit once we print them and cut them, please confirm that you want us to proceed with the order" after a couple of back and forth emails I ended up placing the order. So bottom line is, they are good but not worth the dreadful hassle of placing the personalized orders. read more

I had a favorite bakery in Charlotte that won on Cupcake Wars called Cupcrazed, and they always met my number one criteria for buying cupcakes - do they sell something better than I can make at home? Having moved to Cary, I gave Smallcakes a try. Unfortunately the flavors were very ho-hum. Chocolate cakes and ganache lacked a noticeable chocolate flavor. The vanilla and lemon based cakes tasted strongly of baking powder, and I tossed them without finishing. The best component in the cupcakes I tried was the lemon curd, but unfortunately the cake it was paired with was inedible. Overall, the texture was fine, so at least they weren't dry. The store was clean and attractive, and the staff was helpful, but based off the half-dozen flavors I've tried, I'll have to keep looking. read more

Holy chocolate icing Batman! One of my co-workers brought two rather large boxes of Smallcakes cupcakes to the office from this location and I think i gained 5 lbs just looking at the varieties. Since I can resist anything but temptation, I dove in, I ate one, then took some home to my family for them to try, and of course, I had to have one with them too... SO GOOD! MMM! These are not cupcakes .. this is a true 'happiness' wrapped in cupcake wrapper and iced with some 'fun' that melts in your mouth and goes to your tummy and makes you even more happy .. so far I have decided 4 flavors and cannot decide which one is better ..
