So what's going on with this place?? They close up from out of the blue, but you can place an order 24 hours in advance with a minimum order of 12 cupcakes. I can't eat 12 cupcakes. C'mon, I can do a minimum order of 6 but not 12. Is Small Cakes going to reopen the store eventually or move to another location? I think you should stop selling stuffed animals and sell only bake goods. It was a little odd to have a store full of so many stuffed animals but this little display case of only about 40 cupcakes, if that. Yeah, focus on the bake goods, get rid of the toys and add cakes, pies, brownies and donuts to your menu. More choices means more customers. read more

The cupcake was moist and not too sweet. 5/5 -S'mores: chocolate cake with marshmallow frosting topped with 3 marshmallows, a piece of Hershey's chocolate and chocolate syrup. This cupcake was a little on the sweet side, though very good still. 4/5 - Strawberry: strawberry cake topped with strawberry frosting, topped with sprinkles. This one was surprisingly the sweetest. A little too much for my liking. 3.5/5 SERVICE: The young lady at the register was friendly. One of the cupcakes got sliced into when she closed the lid, but no big deal. 3.75/5 FINAL THOUGHTS: The cupcakes were all very tasty, though some were more sweeter than others. I stopped by to pick up some cupcakes for my daughter's birthday. I've driven by hundreds of times and never stopped, I don't know why it took me so long to pop in.... Now that I've tried it, it will definitely be a while before I return. Cupcakes are $4 each, with no break on price until you get to a dozen. Alright, if they're absolutely over-the-top delicious I can see paying that kind of money. I ordered seven different flavours that we shared amongst the seven of us. Most tasted good. A couple were on the dry side. None of them were so scrumptious that I would get back there as soon as possible for more. I've been a loyal customer, spending hundreds of dollars at this business and using their cupcakes for birthday parties, office events, and charity events. Recently, I went in to make additional purchases and redeem my free cupcake after receiving 10 stamps on my rewards card. However, I was told I needed to come back the next day, which didn't make sense to me, especially since I learned that unsold cupcakes are often given away or discarded. I also had concerns about hygiene when the owner handled food without gloves while upset and runny nose. I understand the difficulties they're facing and hope they can address these issues for a better customer experience. While she refused to honor the rewards card, I still made my purchases, and after watching the handling of the food, I discarded them as soon as I walked out the door. She said her business was struggling because of the costs of everything and lack of customers. Unfortunately, I am now one less customer to patronize it as well. read more

I passed by this store so many times and finally got to try today. I wanted to try their mini cupcakes but they were not ready yet or maybe they are not making them at all...not sure. So I just ordered two reg cupcakes, carrot cake and banana cream. They were both very moist and tasty. Perhaps the frosting was a little too much and it was tad too sweet for me, but I am Asian and we are used to lesser sweet levels. So I think most people would find their cupcakes perfect! Wow! I am so happy I went here for birthday cupcakes. I ordered 6 to go: peanut butter chocolate, choco holic, chocolate decadence, vanilla birthday, cherry vanilla, and the chocolate hoho one. Very fair price at $27. The cake was moist, not super sweet with great consistency. The frosting was perfect! We ended up cutting up each one and sharing, all 9 of us agreed they were great. I feel confident recommending Smallcakes to everyone. I went in and got a dozen for my boyfriends birthday party and they were an absolute hit. We got several flavors including Vanilla, Strawberry, banana, champagne, chocolate eclair, lemon, chocolate marshmallow and maybe a couple others that I can't remember. I pass by this little cupcakery every weekday at least twice a day and sometimes on the weekends but it was my first time to stop by just recently! I wanted to surprise her with her favorite flavor, carrot cake! She loved it. I stopped by another time after work, this time I purchased two cupcakes (one for me). I bought one lemon drop and another carrot cake. I had the carrot cake. So soft and moist and delicious with fun decorations! The frosting may be overly too sweet for me, though, but overall yummy. They bake the cupcakes on-site so you know they are fresh. With a variety of yummy flavors, there is something for everyone... if you feel like you came at a time where their display case is running low on cupcakes just ask the friendly staff member and they'll check the back... they might just be getting ready to roll out some more. They are pricey but they are delicious with a decent variety of flavors... I think it's different flavors every day! The place is tiny and immaculate. I don't know how often they make them but they also offer gluten-free cupcakes. Also, Smallcakes appeared on the Food Network's "Cupcake Wars" seasons one, two, and seven as well as on the daytime talk show "The View." The shop is located in the Safeway shopping center on Pleasant Grove Blvd / E Roseville Pkwy. It is something like two doors down Safeway. Lots of parking. This place has the best birthday cake cupcake ever! I am very picky when it comes to anything that has to do with desserts. I used to prefer baking my own cupcakes but now that I'm well over 40, I am unable to eat as many sweet delights as in previous years so its best to pick up some naughty snibbles from professional bakers to limit what I have on hand at home. Another important disclosure - I am not a fan of anything that is overly sweet where the only thing you taste is sugar. I chose this cupcakery based on the Yelp reviews and location b/c it was close to her house. I also liked that it was a mom and pop place rather than a chain like nothing bundt cakes. She picked up several different types of cupcakes for my bday party, (this was just before the pandemic covid lockdown last year). I tried every kind she bought. They were all good - not overly sugary, perfect ratio of frosting to cake and she said easy to place order. But the one cupcake that still stands out is that confetti birthday cake one. O-M-G! I still dream of that cupcake and crave it. It smelled exactly like a birthday cake should smell - think of a Yankee candle sugar cookie. So yummy! And it tasted as what you would expect when you think of birthday cake - yellow cake, white frosting and confetti. Normally I am a chocolate person but I highly recommend trying as many cakes as possible if you go here and do yourself a favor - get at least one confetti cupcake. We've been visiting Smallcakes for about a year. We discovered it when my MIL moved to Roseville. One of my colleagues told me about it so we checked it out last year and have been returning with each visit. It's a small shop, but they have a great variety of flavors. The cake itself is just the right balance - none have ever been dry which seems to be a common theme of small cupcakeries in my experience. The frostings aren't too sweet and have a good balance with the sweetness of the cake. One of my all-time favorites was a churro cupcake which I believe was a special flavor I haven't seen since.My husband loves the good old fashioned chocolate. My daughter likes the carrot cake. My MIL enjoyed the strawberry so much she called to tell us. It's a nice new tradition to be able to have a "stop" that's part of the experience of the visit. read more

Went here a couple of days ago for the first time. I walked in and was so happy looking at all the squishmallows. A woman employer walked in right ahead of me, and while I'm looking at the squishmallows and talking to another employee, she walks out talking to him. They start whispering, and he's moving his hands around talking about me. I asked him why they were talking about me. He said no, she just asked if you wanted a squishmallow. We'll if that's the case, then you would have/should have just said it out loud. Made me feel really uneasy. I ended up buying two cupcakes in which I had asked the guy which one he recommended. The cupcakes were not worth the price. The cherry/vanilla had no taste of cherry/ vanilla. I will never return to this establishment. read more

Both moist and dense... worth every cent! At this point I couldn't tell you what flavors I got, but one had a pink frosting with a cherry on top and the other was a carrot cake. They were packed with flavor and the perfect amount of sweetness. I had set out to only eat half and save half... unsuccessful. It was gone within minutes. I have been a fan of small cakes for forever. They do have yummy cupcakes. But this last time in we brought excited little kids to pick out cupcakes and admire the squishmallows. Sadly the cashier snapped at the kids and said not to touch the squishmallows which are literally each packaged in a plastic case and protected and low for kids to admire. We were trying to pick out cupcakes and enjoy but he took all the fun out of it and was rude. Sadly I won't be back. Squishmallows and cupcakes will attract children which they should be grateful for. Don't push them away and talk rude to them. Disappointed. read more
