The morning of instructions were clear and concise - last thing you want is more things to remember while you are trying to formulate your proposal. Quite literally, all I had to remember was to make sure I somehow forget something from the car, walk back, and Jonah will find me to attach a hidden mic. Everything else after that, they had it covered - even the drone shots I requested! Before the actual proposal, even though I knew they were there, I actually did not even notice them at all! But don't let their discreetness fool you. Even being completely out of sight, they were able to capture all of our favorite and momentous moments perfectly on the ground and in the air! The audio from the hidden mic was clear, the footages taken were high quality, and the vision they had in order to curate the video was nothing short of amazing! The way the sequence of events flow together, how the footages are synchronized with the music, and even timing of certain clips with my long-winded speech were just incredible! When my husband and I first started researching for our wedding vendors, we came across a Small Hour Films video on Youtube and was instantly impressed by their work. My wife and I would like to give a very enthusiastic 5 stars to Small Hour Films for their capture of our beach wedding last month. I was referred to them by a friend and had no connection to them personally, and their level of service went way, way beyond our expectations. Here are the main points I'd like to highlight: (1) Communication. From the moment we reached out, Jonah was extremely available via phone or email. We had several specific concerns about capturing the ceremony we planned, and his prompt, regular communication with us quickly made us feel like we were on the same page with the videographers. We were confident they understood what we wanted before we went forward with anything. (2) Effort. Jonah went ABOVE AND BEYOND for us. Because he hadn't shot there recently, Jonah scoped out the site the day before the event to check angles, lighting conditions, etc. As an amateur photographer myself, this spoke volumes for me. He knew what to expect to get the video right the first time, and we were only planning to have one wedding ceremony, so this was important. As an added bonus, Jonah jumped in to help my grandfather with something physical after we had finished shooting. Totally not in the job description, but he was happy to help. (3) Quality of the product. I can't stress enough how impressed we were with the video. I thought for sure the sound quality would be terrible because of the wind, but it was perfect because of Jonah's system of relying on multiple mics to capture the event. The visuals were absolutely superb. We didn't realize it, but Jonah had taken drone footage the day before, which he incorporated into the final product. The video quality was as high as it gets. Finally, the edits of the ceremony were tight and appropriate. They anticipated certain events and captured all the key moments and reactions. Marlene and Jonah from SHF are the absolute best people and their work is amazing! We got married in February in a small, backyard elopement after 3 change of plans due to the pandemic. Marlene and Jonah were so flexible and understanding even with all the last minute changes. By that time I honestly was burnt out of trying to plan and just wanted to get it done - but the day turned out to be better than I could have imagined and I'm SO glad we decided to still have videography even for such a small wedding. Both Marlene and Jonah arrived extra early that morning to strategically place equipment in the tight space and to get their details shots before our photographers to not be in their way. Jonah actually took drone footage either the day before or that morning which added such a special element since the area is where I grew up. Marlene was my main contact on the wedding day and she was so calm and helpful as I got ready. They are absolute professionals and the nicest people, the exact combination you want on your big day! They got our highlight and full ceremony video back to us very quickly and it was AMAZING. There were so many little details I either forgot our didn't actually see and the video captured every element and emotion perfectly. The best way I can think to describe it is it magnified the day. Jonah and Marlene were the unsung heroes of our wedding reception. Everyone LOVED the video of our ceremony. Many guests asked who did the video, now, I'm here to tell the world... I came across Small Hour Films from a friend's IG tag, checked out their page, contacted them on the price and pretty much went for broke. I mean, I watched their work but I trusted my friend to get the best of the best so I knew it would be good. They responded quickly via email and we only met the day of our ceremony. We signed for only one hour of video but bless their hearts they filmed for the entire duration of over two hours. Talk about going above and beyond!!! I am the type of person that does not like to leave things to chance...so naturally, I did my due-diligence when it came to searching for my wedding vendors. My married friends recommended companies like 10th letter media, Aria, Isle media, small hour films, etc. Before committing to one, I spent many days and nights looking at all of their vimeo accounts, their websites, youtube videos, trying to see what their prices were and what services they had to offer. (Photos and videos are the only things you will be left with after your big day so I didn't mind splurging a little on it.) Of all the videos I've seen, I really fell in love with all the videos Small Hour Films had made. I contacted Jonah and Marlene and they met up with Ryan and I for a consult. They were both VERY FRIENDLY and they are very easy to talk to. That was another important thing. You want your vendors to be personable and easy to work with so you and your other vendors feel comfortable. They were great! They gave us their contract along with their price sheet and to my surprise, they were the most afforable ones! Based on their level of expertise, I thought they would be one of the more expensive companies! Obviously it was a no-brainer for us. We signed with them over a year before our big day. From the moment we signed until our big day, I was able to reach out and communicate some shots I wanted to incorporate. They were very patient and accommodating with our ideas and even made some great suggestions. Our wedding took place at the Kahala Hotel and the reception was in the Maile Ballroom. We wanted to use two of their projection screens but the cable they had wasn't long enough to connect the projectors so what did they do? They purchased it and didn't charge us extra for it. We were so grateful! Other companies would have definitely tacked on that extra charge, and then some. On the day of our wedding, Jonah and Marlene arrived and started doing their thing. In our package, we had the SAME DAY EDIT and the DRONE. It was a GREAT wedding. They took us outside to do some sunset drone shots on the beach and peninsula and OMG, IT WAS ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!! When we played the same day edit, all you could hear in the ballroom was "omg!" "oooooOhhh!" and "ahhhh!!" Everyone was AMAAAAAZED at their video!! We had our destination wedding in Oahu in June 2016. Videography was not a priority or "must have" for us. Our planner introduced us to Jonah and Marlene and based upon our pleasant meeting, their great work, and very affordable pricing, we decided to book them. It was the best decision and vendor that we worked with. During our wedding day- you barely notice their presence since they stay out of your way. Few months later, our Day Highlight video came and we can't stop watching it over and over and immediately shared with our friends and family. Jonah and Marlene captured the emotions of our big day and we were able to relive such a beautiful moment for us. The only thing we dislike is hearing our own voices. On May of 2013, my husband and I started planning our wedding for May of 2014. We didn't know where to start. A bunch of people said we should go to the wedding cafe to get some input on wedding vendors, did that and it's a great start, but most if the vendors weren't the right ones for us. We also went to the wedding expo and that was just way too much for us. I felt like I was being bombarded with vendors and getting all their info, but when I got home, I was like who are these people again?! That's when I decided to go and seek help from our Yelp GURU (my sister in law, Emi)! She suggested Jonah, from Small Hour Films. She has used him many times past and present at her Yelp events. We decided to give him a call and give this guy a chance for an interview. Hiring wedding vendors are like hiring employees to work for you! Weddings are like your baby, which you put a lot of money, time and effort into something you dream of. So if you want great results, you gotta hire great people to get the job done right! We finally set a date to meet Jonah, and about an hour into our meeting, I thought to myself....he's the one. I know that I can be very meticulous, overbearing, and a control freak! But hey who isn't when it comes to their wedding?! He listened to everything we (or should I say Wendy) had to say about what I wanted as far as a videographer could do for our wedding. He was very patient and what I loved about him was that he took notes about everything I said that I wanted/needed. Thank god that he took notes because along the way as the date got closer, I got so caught up without other vendors and little details of the wedding, that I forgot what we had talked about previously with Jonah! A couple moths til our wedding date, we had to choose pictures and songs for the slide show. Jonah was great at helping us out. He made sure that the pictures we chose were decent, so that on his end, he could do the best he can at making the slide show perfect for us. The song part was the most difficult. We gave home some songs that we wanted to use in the slide show and for the rest that we couldn't think of, he and his girlfriend Marlene came up with some of their own great ideas that the could incorporate into the slide show so that it would flow well together with the songs that we chose. As the big day arrived, Jonah and his staff arrived ON TIME to our hotel, did whatever they had to do, and left to meet us for our ceremony and reception. They were very professional about not getting in the way of things and very considerate of other vendors at the same time. As our great night came close to an end, we all finally got to see the final product, which consisted of our slide show with the same day edit. I was so happy how Jonah and his staff, especially Marlene who did the same day edits, could deliver and make our night even that much more unforgettable. I loved how our slide show came together, I cried when I got to see the same day edits from our ceremony earlier, and even better they posted our same day edits for us to share with others to see who couldn't make it to our wedding. Jonah and Marlene are so talented, sweet and professional. We had booked them on a recommendation from a friend and I didn't even bother interviewing anyone else. I felt immediately at ease with them and confident in their work. We got the 8 hr package and they even stayed a little longer to capture some epic dancing shots! In one word...PHENOMENAL I was tasked to find a videographer to capture the memorial service of my cousin, a Captain for the Honolulu Police Department, who very suddenly passed away while on duty. I have planned many events, but never a funeral, and had never been to a funeral for a fallen officer. My cousin has 3 young daughters. It was very important to his brother to hire a professional videographer to capture this event so they could look back on that day with pride in the way their dad was honored and remembered. And also for them to see how many people really loved their dad. Having never hired a videographer before, I put the call out of Facebook if anyone could refer me to one. Jonah & Marlene of Small Hour Films were referred to me by a friend who is also a professional photographer. I emailed Jonah right away and he called soon after. I could tell by our phone call that they were the right people for this special job. From then on Jonah's communication was excellent. He always kept me informed and responded in a very timely manner and was always very professional. What struck me first was his sincerity with regards to my cousin's passing. He wasn't just out to book the next event and make a buck. I really appreciated that. On the day of the event he brought a team of 3. They were there for 4 hours. They were all incredibly professional and respectful of the fact that it was a memorial service. They were never intrusive and always keep me in the loop of what was happening, always checking with me to make sure they were filming everything the family wanted filmed. They didn't miss a thing! After the service Jonah kept in constant contact with regards to the status of the edit and also included me in the creation of the keepsake dvd jacket cover and disc, which I really appreciated! On a number of occasions I received emails from Jonah in the wee hours of the morning, the latest were around 4:30am. He was committed to getting the final cut just right, even if it meant staying until 4am just to have to get up in a couple hours to go to work! That's dedication! I received the email saying the link was ready to view this afternoon. I watched it immediately and I was BLOWN AWAY! It was more than I could've ever expected! Small Hour Films are seriously the BEST duo videographers ever. First, communication prior to and during the wedding. Super nice. Super friendly. Super accommodating. Just two super awesome, amazing people that we guarantee anyone will love working with. Next, pricing. Super reasonable. We definitely think they are worth at least twice more than what they charge. AT LEAST. Maybe thrice. Or even quadrice. Is that a word? Finally, video quality. We can't say enough how happy we are at how the highlight and full-length video came out. Ceremony, vows, reception speeches - everything was captured perfectly. I love how they cut in and out of our reactions and the reactions of the audience to make it more engaging. But probably the single biggest reason I love Small Hours is this: My mother actually passed shortly before my wedding and just knowing she wouldn't attend was one of the most painful feelings in the world. But through some miracle, a dove flew in and out of multiple drone and location pan shots in the intro of our highlight video. First, in the drone shot of the beach. Next, in the closer drone shot of the hotel. And finally, it landed in the pan shot of the ceremony location. To me, it looked almost as if my mom was flying down from heaven to see our wedding. My teen daughter and I had amazing time working with Jonah and Marlene for our 'family' videography in Oahu. It was probably their first time not working on proposal or a wedding. lol! Oh my goodness, if anyone deserves a 5 star review it's Small Hour Films! I wish I could give them 100 stars! They were also recommended by both my wedding planner AND photographer, so that's saying a lot as well. Jonah and Marlene are the two sweetest and most patient people you could come across. We purchased their same day edit package and added on a Love Story interview. For what we got, the prices are more than reasonable for a videographer. We wanted something special for the love story, and Jonah and Marlene were able to accommodate, meeting up with us several times to get the perfect shots (more about that in a bit). They suggested great places to shoot and we were able to film during the sunrise, which was so fun! For the interviews, I along with the other interviewees were very nervous in front of the camera, but Jonah and Marlene's easy-going personalities made it so easy to just "talk story" instead of it feeling like being interviewed. By the end of it we were all commenting on how it wasn't so scary like we thought it was going to be. The week before the wedding they offered to let us see the love story interview ahead of time but we declined, wanting it to be a surprise along with our guests. By the time the wedding came around, seeing them again was like seeing old friends. During the ceremony I hardly knew they were there! During the reception, we finally got to watch the love story interview and the same day edit and I could not wait! As a person who plans things out and always knows exactly what she wants and has an exact vision in my head about how things should look or go, both videos EXCEEDED my expectations. From the song choice (I chose a few for them to pick from) and the different shots that they got, to the execution, it was exactly the mood and the perfect shots that I wanted to portray and they captured so much more. It showed a bit of my personality and my now husband's personalities in each shot, as well as our love for each other. The sunrise shots were absolutely amazing! We got so many laughs, joyful tears, and comments from guests about how it was the best part of the night! After the wedding, Jonah and Marlene quickly sent a link of the two videos. It was great because my grandpa unfortunately was unable to make it so I was able to show him the videos the next day. I swear I watched the videos about 10 times or so within the week of getting the link. Jonah mentioned they wanted to fix a small audio issue in the love story interview. I nor any of my guests saw (or heard) anything wrong with the video, but that just shows that Small Hour Films strives for perfection in everything they do, even when the issue is not noticeable to the normal human eye (or ear). We also ran into some problems with the final payment (that was completely my fault), but they were so patient and understanding about it. Overall one of the best decisions I made for the wedding was hiring Small Hour Films. I often find myself wondering about finding reasons to hire them again, since I obviously will only be getting married once. Do they do birthday parties? Retirements? If you only read this first part of my review, I have two things you must know... 1) Jonah and Marlene and the SHF crew are literally THE BEST EVER!!! 2) If you're on the fence about whether or not to pay the extra money for the same-day-edit, PAY IT! Cause it's totally worth it! From the very beginning, we absolutely LOVED how responsive Jonah and Marlene were via email. In less than 24 hours, we had a response. It's amazing to think that they're able to make that happen... let alone sleep. Wedding planning can be stressful by itself so when you add vendors that don't respond it makes things even worse. But fret no more, because this crew has to be the most responsive vendors we worked with throughout our wedding planning process! After our first meeting with them we knew they were the videographers for us because not only were they professional beyond their years, but their easy-going energy and friendly smiles put us at ease. First and foremost, we wanted to find a team that we felt comfortable with as they literally are with you your entire wedding day! Instead of just finding another videographer team, we wanted to find that ONE team that really fit us... people who we'd want to hang with outside of our wedding day because they're just that cool! Lucky for us, we found SHF. On the day of our wedding day, the SHF team arrived early to our venue with smiles on and ready to work. And boy did they work. I've never seen a team work harder. They were doing everything and anything to get that perfect shot. And I think the icing on the cake was that you could tell they werne't working hard because it was just "their job", but that it came from a genuine place. They are passionate about what they do and love doing it. As our wedding day continued I noticed that Marlene was sitting in the corner on her computer. From a glance you would wonder what she's doing, but after inquiring I found out that she was starting to edit our Same Day Edit! I was in shock! She was editing from the very beginning of the day to the very last minute before we played it. Words will not do it justice as this video was just straight amazing. It brought me and my guests to tears and captured ALL of the BEST moments of our wedding ceremony and into our reception. It's truly AMAZING what the SHF team can do in the amount of time they have. After our wedding we had at least 10 guests come up to us separately to tell us that they've never seen anything like it and that they couldn't believe how well it turned out. They were shocked that something of that high quality was completed in the short amount of time. And I have to agree... I'm still in shock. Marlene, you are an editing genius and have a gift for creating these breathtaking, emotional same day edits that just blow everyone's mind. When deciding on a destination wedding in Honolulu HI I had no idea where to being to look for a videographer. I wasn't even sure that I wanted one but read in every wedding must have that it was at the top of the list. The photographer that I booked recommended Small Hour Films so I went with it not even sure of what to expect. They were absolutely amazing to work with! Very sweet and quiet I didn't even realize they were in the church filming at one point. We received our highlight video not that long ago and I was completely blown away. For us, their video and quality sells itself. 2. Meeting - we had our initial meeting with Jonah and Marlene (owners). They are one of the most down-to-earth people you can meet and can tell they are very passionate about what they do. After our meeting, we just felt in our gut that they were the right people for the job. We had 100% confidence in them. 3. Great feedback and fast response- Jonah and Marlene are on top of it. You send an email and they typically answered within a few hours, followed up with requests promptly. This was essential for us and one less thing we had to worry about. (which is huge for wedding planning!) 4. During the wedding - they are so patient, experienced, and professionals at what they do. They know exactly what to say to make you at ease (during a very stressful day!) They really should look in to being part time business consultants on excellent customer service. 5. From the point of first contact (email), Jonah and Marlene have been nothing less than professional, kind, fun, and creative. Small Hour embodies the Spirit of Aloha--so if you are having a wedding in Hawaii (or anywhere else!), they are your peeps! The staff were always attentive to any ideas and questions we had. They met with us in-person and inquired about our vision for our videos. They helped us build upon that vision and actualize it. We wanted videos that showed love, family, and had a hip vibe. I could not be happier with the wedding video Small Hour Films produced for us. Having been familiar with Jonah and Marlene's side projects and art work, I knew I was working with talented individuals but I was simply blown away with the finished product. They crafted a wedding film that better encapsulated my own taste and personality than I could have even articulated to them. The details they were able to capture and then seemlessly weave into a video that truly told the story of the day were pure magic. Everyone who saw our video loved it. I was extremely hesitant to even do a video because I thought it would be weird watching myself in a video, but they caught all my good angles and cute moments with my husband which I would never have remembered on my own. I'm pretty sure they use some sort of pretty person filter that makes everyone look better which doesn't hurt either. Your wedding day is so full of happy memories that there is no way you'd be able to store all of them in your head without some help--so just get a video! One of the best decisions I made for our wedding is deciding on SHF as our videographer. I love Jonah and Marlene's creative work and I can tell they love what they do. I cannot express how happy I am that I found Jonah and Marlene on Yelp.com. We came up with the idea of breaking away from the tradition and doing something unusual for our big day. Well, at least unusual in Poland, where we come from :) We were lucky enough to find out that Jonah was available on that day and that he was happy with our needs - a coverage of an intimate ceremony of just the two of us and a photo shoot afterwards. From the very beginning I could feel wonderful vibes. We communicated with Jonah over e-mails and had a conversation on skype. He is such a warm, kind person. Being based in Australia, organising a wedding from overseas can have its stressful moments to say the least but none of our stress arose from Small Hour Films. My fiance wasn't so sure about having a videographer at our wedding but was brought to tears when he saw the result. Most amazing people ever. Honestly I don't even know where to start. They deserve all the praise in the world. Jonah actually went to school with my husband and so my husband was pretty insistent that we use them. He couldn't stop talking about how nice Jonah was in high school and would take all these photos of him for the year book. Being the crazy, neurotic person I am, I was like hmm let me just take a look at what else is out there. So I did my research, looked around at other options, pricing differences and watched like 50 wedding videos tearing up after every one of them. We decided to send out emails to a couple of different vendors just to see who was available. Small hour films responded almost immediately with the nicest, sweetest email ever that they were available and I was like ok fine - Let's do this. I am so unbelievably happy that we did. After meeting Jonah and Marlene on the wedding day I immediately felt the kindness, patience and warmth from them.
