I was visiting Winston-Salem and decided to try this nanobrewery before I left. They had a small but awesome selection of craft beers that anyone can enjoy. Very laid back atmosphere and a friendly group of employees that seemed to really enjoy working there. The Mac n cheese was a big bowl of awesome and was the perfect addition to my flight of beers. Ate and drank here last night. Burger was great and the onion rings were awesome. A very light flavorful batter on wide strips of onion. Usually I prefer onion strings but these were some of the bet I've ever had. So, why the low rating? The service was substandard. When I'm in a brewery I expect some enthusiasm. These guys seemed bored and not at all friendly. Even if I overlook the guy that sneezed over my beer, no one offered a napkin or silverware. We brought in a group of nine to enjoy milkshakes that we have enjoyed for a long time only to be disappointed with the sub par selection. Drove 40 minutes to try it out. Wow, what a huge disappointment. The service was okay..nothing to rave about. Their rating was a 90.0!? We were a party of 5 and were seated quickly. One hamburger was undercooked and had to be sent back. Took FOREVER for it to come back. Then right before ordering dessert, one person in our party found a dead fly in the bottom of her water glass AND 2 gnats! Unreal. Unfortunately Small Batch feels as if it is on a downhill slalom. Let's start with the positive- I got the buffalo chicken tenders and they were incredible as was the ranch. Unfortunately the other dishes at my table were either small portioned appetizers or extremely undercooked burgers. The trivia has also declined in quality over the past year. Stopped by Small Batch Beer Co after hiking nearby for a cool beverage and lunch. We sat at the bar and I made sure to take advantage of the employees knowledge of there wide selection from pale ale to saison to gose and staple IPAs. I have recently been into saisons, but their Thai basil cucumber variety made me nervous. As soon as they saw the look on my face they quickly offered to let me try before committing. While much milder than expected and not overly sweet it would have been perfect on a sunny day outside. Instead, I decided to capitalize on the niceties of the staff and ask for a sample of the pale ale. Also good but it was the mystery beer they brought with my sample of pale ale that was the winner of the day. My mystery beer ended up being a blonde that was balanced and just refreshing enough. For eats I had the special of pork tacos. The pork was excellent, but I could have gone for cheese other than shredded cheddar and a lighter serving of the barbecue sauce. The fries, I stole from my friend however, were well spiced and highly addicting. Definitely check it out if you are ready to try a wide variety of beers! Beers great, food not bad. read more

One of the coolest spots we've hit in a long time. We went earlyish on a Friday, before the crowd, and couldn't have had a better time. Our bartender was a twenty outta ten - thoughtful, sweet, beautiful and quick to refill a drink and provide a suggestion. We didn't have a bad beer the entire time. The Queen Cersei Blonde, the Beet Gose On, the Dubble Bubble Double IPA, the Hibiscus Farmhouse, the Lemon Man IPA. Would have loved to check out the Percolator but it was early in the evening so we had to make it last. Split the black bean hummus and it was delicious, they even snagged us more hot pita triangles to finish it off. If we hadn't been driving back to Philly the next morning I would have taken home a few growlers. Great beer, cool menu, amazing service, great vibe. Highest possible recommendation. read more

The décor is awesome!! It's shabby chic with a woodsy lumberjack feel. I feel like I've entered a bar in Denver, Colorado or the Alps when I walk in....but nope, still in Downtown Winston! They had five beers on tap that they brew in-house. The limonhead IPA was good, but a little bitter for my taste. We Americans love our sugar- make it a just a tad bit sweeter and it'll be perfect. Also, the beer selection is superb. They have many craft selections that you won't find just anywhere. As I came on a Sunday evening, it was fairly slow. There was only one other party in there. I would imagine it gets quite packed on a Friday or Saturday night. The one negative observation was that the staff didn't seem too knowledgeable about the beers. They were dressed super cute, and definitely added to the hipster feel of the bar. However, when describing beers to customers, they didn't use standard beer terminology. As a hophead, I like to know whether my beer will have a frothy head, rich hop flavor, what the aroma is, etc. If I'm at an ordinary bar, I don't expect the bartenders to know absolutely everything they're serving, but when it's a local brewery, it's nice to know a little bit about a new beer before trying it. Maybe in time or with a little more training, the staff will become more knowledgeable. It's certainly not a deal breaker. read more

Stopped in after an event downtown and found it to be a nice spot. Inside was rather loud, mostly music as the bar was rather empty. However, they do offer a number of tables outside and as the sun had set, it was starting to cool down enough outdoors to make it rather pleasant. Tried their Riptide IPA and a peach beer (though I can't remember its name) and both were serviceable but not terribly memorable. The peach was on par with bottled Son of a Peach and the Riptide was okay and had a subtle hop character but just lacked a little in flavor compared to the description, in my opinion. I love craft beer and small breweries and have no doubt that I'll be back to give them another go. read more

The wait was not really that bad, they text you when your up, and we went walking for 20 min. Highly recommend the zucchini chips, amazing. The Sriracha burger was also great. While the beer was very good, the service was pretty terrible. I was told a certain beer had blown and the sign was removed. I order another beer and the sign was immediately placed right back up. If they had replaced the keg on the beer I originally wanted, I would have expected that they would have told me "hey, the beer you wanted is back on. Would you still like it or your other choice?" This place has gone down hill from many previous experiences. The food is still good, and the beer is still decent (Wise Man and Fiddlin' Fish has them beat hands down). The service here however is TERRIBLE. Not only did our waitress forget to bring us drinks we ordered, but also charged us for stuff that we did not order. I went back to the bar while playing darts to get another beer and no one at the bar acknowledged me, they were not busy. My Fiancé went back to order a milkshake and they had an attitude about what time it was (well before closing). Save your money and go to one of the many other local breweries who have employees who are invested in the business and care about the service customers receive. All of the styles were met with a gold star for very solid beers(Percolator Mocha Stout, Belgium Dubbel, and The Beet Gose On). Bartender was very attentive and had a good bit knowledge on companies brews but also competitors throughout the state. I was very impressed by the small little brewery. They produced solid beers that should make a staple within the city of Winston-Salem and I'm sure eventually the state of North Carolina. read more

This was quite possibly the worst restaurant experience I have ever had and I never complain. I went in to the night knowing the wait to get in to the restaurant was going to be bad so I was pleasantly suprised to have just a short wait on a sunday night. We got seated and the waitress took our orders and brought us drinks. We were sat at 7:00 pm and we had our drinks by 7:10 and thats when we placed our order. We sat patiently waiting for our food because we had heard how good the burgers are. 3 bigger groups wandered in around 7:30 and were also sat immediately. 45 minutes in we were still waitimg on oir food and the waitress comes by to say sorry a big group came in ahead of you and thats why its taking us so long. We said okay thats fine and she refilled our drinks. Around 8:00, an hour after we arrived, the table of 6 that arrived 30 minutes after us got thier food. We were slightly annoyed and then 8:30 came around and another table of 5 got thier food. This is when i flagged our waitress down to ask about our food. Mind you, we had been there an hour and a half and she was condescending and rude. When i told her we had been waiting for an hour and a half and several other tables had gotten thier food she replied. " I know, that's so annoying right? " our food finally arrives at 8:40 and our burgers were dry and overcooked and they were nothing worth waiting that long for. We were looking forward to getting milkshakes but we couldnt stand to be in this place asecond longer so we paid and left. Please, please dont waste your time here there are plenty of better burgers in the triad that have better service and better food. read more
