Soooo...I had heard a few good things about BB, and wanted to check them out. The burgers took a long time to arrive at our table. I LOVE my beef to be cooked medium, so when I saw this was how all their burgers were cooked, I was extremely excited. I now know what took so long for 2 burgers -- my burger was cooked medium-well/well, with a pin-head's worth of pink exactly in the center. Needless to say, the burger was so dry, I thought I was chewing bark!!! I'm highly disappointed, and I will not be back. When the burgers finally came, we asked about the milk shake which we ordered at the same time as the burgers and just got a curt "it'll come when it's ready." I cannot for the life of me figure out why people like this place. We came for father's day with my disabled FIL and 2 young kids. Small Batch didn't have any chairs (only benches-difficult for my fil) so they sent us over to Burger Batch. We couldn't figure out who our server was. As soon as one left, another would come over to ask for our order (this happened for our drink order and our dinner order-super strange-"we just placed our order with your colleague"). My food came out 5 minutes after everyone else's with no acknowledgment. I asked if the order was put in, the server said "yes." And walked away. The food: my kids ate all of the Mac n cheese, they would not touch the cheese burger, my husband's super food salad was anything but super. It was a joke, quite frankly (he is vegetarian so the options were limited) and didn't even come as seen on the menu, my fish and chips were overdone and dry. By far the worse fish and chip I have ever tasted. The batter is not light and fluffy-but is more of a chicken fingers batter. My sangria tasted like it was boxed red wine with some ice thrown in-there was no fruity taste. The Rueben was delicious (but my fil will eat anything, including my cooking, so I really don't know....) We ordered 1 milkshake, and it came with 3 spoons and 3 straws and 2 napkins. There were 5 of us. As soon as we were done, the kids started going bonkers and I couldn't get out of there fast enough. 3 employees were chatting at a table folding napkins (one of our original servers being one of them). There were 4 tables, all near completion, and nobody giving checks. Just 3 employees sitting down chatting. I finally glimpsed our other server and waited to catch his eyes. After several minutes I succumbed to asking from across the restaurant. Super awkward, especially because there was no music softening the blow....but we would have last 27 more seconds with my sugar loaded kids. I will never go here again. My brother and I went here just today around four and it was quite lovely overall, I thought. We ordered the surprise milkshake (had birthday cake and cotton candy atop a birthday cake milkshake), fries+onion rings, and a veggie burger with onions lettuce and their fancy sauce (mayo and Sriracha the waitress kindly told us). The service: When we first walked in we really had no idea what to do with ourselves since we hadn't noticed the podium kind of to the side when you walk in or a hostess at all to seat us, which was a bit confusing but not necessarily a problem for us, since there was seating available that we could seat ourselves at, but we were lucky for that and saw a few people standing at the front alone, waiting for a few minutes confused without any working person to direct them as to how long their wait would be nor seating to sit at while they waited since it's a pretty cramped store. Our waitress was very friendly, although the space in this establishment is very small and gets quite loud since it was so busy in there. The food: The veggie burger was amaaazing (my brother and father are vegetarians so we have both had our fair share of burgers) (also, since my brother is vegetarian, he would have had a problem digesting their food if it was cooked in fat and has not experienced any problems what-so-ever, so it is safe for vegetarians to eat) but was a normal sized burger for $8. That, we thought, was entirely overpriced for such a burger. The buns and every other part of the burger wasn't amazing, they just had a good recipe for the burger itself. Which, yeah, it grounds for a more expensive price, but $9? Not worth the price. Plus, that didn't even include fries or any other sides, we had to buy that separately. The fries were delicious; seasoned very well and cooked seemly fresh, but we got a very small handful of them. The onion rings were very large (I really wish they would have cut them up smaller) and not amazing or anything extraordinary at all, plus we only received two of them. The small basket of these wasn't full at all and it was $5. Again, not worth the price. Finally, we received our milkshake. It looked fantastic, the cooks come around and give them to us personally which was cute. There was a piece of cake on top with cotton candy and sprinkles and everything, which was very delicious (I don't even like cotton candy that much but this one was awesome), the milkshake itself wasn't as thick as the old-fashioned ones usually come (which is how I usually enjoy mine), but it was also amazing. But, you got one of those small glasses and the toppings cut into the actual milkshake, so there was really about a cup (you know, one measuring cup) of milkshake in all, for $9. Now, it did come with cake and all that topping goodness and was very delicious, which I understand calls for a higher price, but $9? Ours came with a small piece of cake and the others have some cookies and stuff on top, but it was NOT massive enough to account for THAT much higher of a price, come on. Without the toppings that shake was literally a kids size. I could've probably taken the toppings off and fit them in my hand, they are not has massive or glorious as they seem, I promise you. I have never been able to eat my fair half of a milkshake with one other person because I just can't eat that much sugar and I know I could have eaten this entire milkshake alone, which says a lot. We went for a beer and burger this past Thursday and the bar was packed. We were lucky to find 3 seats together. I ordered a saison and a blond both brewed by small batch and was impressed. The burger bar is connected to the main bar so the menu is available on both sides. I ordered the Winston burger that had pimento cheese, chips, and onions with a side of sweet potato tots. I devoured my whole plate. The burger menu lists several creative burgers; I want to try the one with goat cheese next time. I'll never understand why people write nasty reviews considering how excited WS always is for a new restaurant. It's gunna be crowded folks. ANYWAY. I have gone twice and had incredible food both times. The zucchini chips with salt and pepper are one of the best appetizers I've had in town! Crisp and well seasoned with an awesome dipping sauce. Some friends and I popped into Small Batch for trivia on a Wednesday night. First the beer: The Saber Saison and BlackBerry Saison were both good. The Percolator stout is good as well--full of chocolate and coffee notes. They also let you order from the menu at their sister restaurant next door. It was more disappointing and can be summed up in one word: overpriced. $13 for a burger with no sides would be bad enough, but all four of us got rare burgers. Seriously...raw hamburger in the middle of all. Flavors were good, I just hope none of us get sick. After realizing the $13 burgers had no sides we ordered fries and a tot casserole that, for ten dollars was tiny and disappointing. Finally...the trivia. The sound system is horrible (so don't expect to understand much of the audio) and the mc rushes through (don't expect to write one answer before he's halfway through the next question). I wanted to see what the hype was about so I went to check it out. Personally, I like turkey burgers but the restaurant doesn't serve them. But the chicken and waffles was really good (not touching Dames)! The shake is all hype though, I could've went to sonic or cold stone, shoot maybe even Chick-Fil-A and got a better one for a cheaper price. The cake on the shake was extremely dry (imagine a Dewey's cake square left out for 3days), the cotton candy was a bit much and the sprinkles didn't help. Excellent beer selection! Very cute and hip venue. I liked it right away as did the people I was with. Their cucumber basil saison was AMAZING! They make their own beers and have a very unique cocktail menu. They also have alcoholic Popsicles, although I didn't try one because Sunday's was the "Arnold Palmer", I do plan to check back next time and try a different flavor. However... My one and only complaint was the guy behind the bar. He seemed SO annoyed to be working and serving us. I felt like a jerk just trying to order the taco app. He seemed so over it and too good to talk with us. I like to give the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe he was having a crap day so I tried to be kind and humorous to no avail. It was so off putting I kind of wanted to take our $$ elsewhere. I know we will be back but I hope he isn't the only one there next time (or that his day is much better). I will not disclose our servers name because he may of been new or just having a bad day. Lucked out and got a seat here before the Gears and Guitars festival at Bailey Park downtown. Picked this place because of the fabulous Yelp reviews and they were right. When my friends and I are trying to decide where to grab a drink downtown, my default answer is always Small Batch. Their bartenders are friendly if busy, they have a good selection of liquor and I think their beers (most if not all?) are delicious. And their finger foods hit the spot after a long day at work. Small Batch has phenomenal burgers. They leave you the choice of making your own or have a wide array of burgers to choose from. They serve one call "The Figgy Piggy", I believe is the name. My boyfriend and I had lunch here yesterday around 2:15pm. They were pretty busy because they had some sort of Harry Potter theme day, so we had about a 25 min wait. We'd been excited to try BB for a while so I was excited! When we were seated in the dining room part of the restaurant, I was a little...underwhelmed, because the atmosphere is sort of a mix between an elementary school cafeteria and an outdated ice cream shop. The layout is sort of gallery style so there is one narrow walkway between tables lining each wall. We were seated in the corner near the kitchen which is a strange spot because we constantly had staff walking by our table but were ignored for most of our visit. The service was terrible. Our waitress was curt and rude and was not knowledgeable about the menu. She kept hurrying us to order, but because I have a couple of dietary restrictions it took me a few minutes to look over the menu. She wasn't sure if the veggie burger was gluten free (it's not) and when she came back from the kitchen to tell me this, she didn't offer any other suggestions. I ordered the superfood salad with grilled chicken and without granola. When I said this she kept saying "what? What?" And I kept repeating "no granola." She finally said "granola?!?" And I pointed it out on the menu. This is when she laughed and told me she's had the salad but never read the menu so didn't know it had granola. Okay, whatever. My bf ordered Brussel sprouts as an app, and a burger and fries for lunch. Sprouts were good, but our water glasses sat empty for most of the meal and they weren't refilled unless we were able to flag her down and ask. My boyfriend tried to make conversation about the Harry Potter day and said "oh, are y'all serving butterbeer?" But she only snapped "yes, it's alcoholic" and walked away. When our food came, my salad had granola on it. I didn't want to wait another 30 min for a new salad, so I flagged her down to ask for a plate to put the granola on. She said "ohhh, I knew you asked me for a plate!" I said "no, I asked for no granola." She started assuring me she'd put in the no granola request to the kitchen and that it was the kitchen's fault. I don't really care whose fault it is, but there was no offer to make anything better. The salad was underwhelming and I was given a tinyyyyyy ramekin of dressing for a rather large salad. My bf loved his burger. At the end he ordered a butterbeer, and what he got was something he said tasted like Bailey's and water. Gross? Overall, the meal was overpriced ($38 for two), overhyped, and extremely underwhelming. (And definitely not GF friendly!) I'm a fan! While not a drinker, I stopped in with a friend the other night. He sampled the beer and I had Cheerwine and some divine appetizers - the Italian Job pizza to be exact. As mentioned in other reviews, the atmosphere is very comfortable, inviting and creative. We sat at the bar, but I could easily see myself returning on a date with my wife at a table-for-two or with friends at one of their larger tables. I can't speak for the beer, but my friend sure enjoyed the ones he sampled. The food was outstanding!
