Great selection and pricing. Customer service much better than big box stores. They can get appliances and work with your schedule.

Review Highlights - Slyman Bros Appliances

We had gone to all of the big box stores but stopped in at Slyman Bros upon the recommendation of my in-laws.

Seriously disappointed. My husband shopped around for a few weeks in order to purchase a new oven…read morefor my Christmas present. He eventually settled on a nice (albeit expensive) model from the Maytag store. When it arrived, it had a large scratch on the front. When we called to report this, they said they would have someone out to fix it. During the next 6 weeks of waiting for said part, I made several more calls to complain about the uneven and unpredictable heating of the double oven. I was assured it would be taken care of during my service call. Maytag service finally came out, with the wrong part. The service tech had no knowledge of the heating issue, and wouldn't try to fix it. Fast forward 12 weeks later. Correct part finally comes in, and is installed. The oven still doesn't cook properly. I should have stopped dealing with them then. However, we are remodeling the kitchen, and needed a new fridge. We go back to the Maytag store, find what I want, and get a great deal. I went home, searched the model number to read reviews, and I discover it is not the model I picked out on the showroom floor. This is a day prior to delivery. I call, and the answer I receive is "Oh, sorry about that. I can get you the one you wanted for an additional $300." Seriously? I have had no luck with contacting the corporate office. Needless to say, we cancelled our order. We will not be back to the Maytag store or buy another Maytag product.

I had previously gotten my Maytag supplies (mainly water filters for my refrigerator) at the Maytag outlet on Clayton Road. It was convenient to my home and the service people were polite, helpful, and attentive. When they closed, I was told there was a Maytag outlet on South Lindbergh. Not very convenient, but I really didn't have much choice as the filters have been difficult for me to find. The filters are almost $50 dollars each, but only need changing every 6 months (that's the good news). When I first went to the Lindbergh Maytag outlet, I received the same friendly and helpful service I'd received at the Clayton store. There were two very nice guys, I'd guess they were in their 50's, short like me, and very careful in making sure I got the product/filter I needed and offered their cards should I encounter any problems. I had forgotten to bring my credit card and had little cash on me, so I asked if I could write a check. They said that would be fine. I was so impressed with their kindness and help, I bought 2 filters (around $100). When I went to the outlet today, it was 26 degrees, with an 8-degree wind-chill factor. It took me almost half an hour to get there, as it is quite a ways from my home, and South Lindbergh traffic was not good. When I entered, I didn't see either of the guys who had been so helpful on my previous visit. The guy on duty was like 6-feet tall, 60-ish, with glasses and a good head of silver hair. I was still trying to recover from the brutal cold outside, as he located the filter I needed (I had brought the old one, just to make certain I got the correct one). I didn't want a 'senior moment' to require me to make that trek again anytime soon. Without thinking, I pulled out my checkbook and my pen. "Sorry, we don't take checks!" he kind of barked. He had no way of knowing that I don't carry my single credit card on me, as I have been mugged twice. Not his fault. I had just gone to the bank and had exactly $100 with me (money for food and medicine for the rest of the month). I'm on a fixed income --- again, not his fault. I explained that the other times I had come to the store, other clerks/salespersons had not indicated at a check payment was a problem. "Nope. No checks." His heels were dug in and major attitude was threatening and dismissive. I explained the situation with living quite a distance away and that I intended to buy two filters (as I had before), but that the $96 dollars I had with me would be down to $4. I also mentioned the difficulty I had had in driving so far in pretty ugly weather to come down there for the product. "No checks". I felt trapped, as I didn't know of any other Maytag outlet in St. Louis. And this guy had the warmth of a walk-on role in the movie "Deliverance". He rang up the sale and seemed to be having trouble with the register. "That's all I have. I don't have anymore," I dared. Glare...more attitude. When I was bold enough to ask for a bag (which I had received with all my other purchases at this outlet), his response was "We don't have bags". My mental response was, "Probably because if YOU'RE the one at the counter when customers come in, there wouldn't be much NEED for any bags". I have since found out that there is supposed to be a Maytag outlet in Hazelwood. For my next Maytag need, I plan on trying there. I can't imagine any more surly or rude salesperson than the one who DIDN'T help me at all. Don't know his name (no tag and didn't identify himself). My kindest guess would be "Gomer". The other names that come to mind would require censorship. Avoid this store...or if you happen to drop by, and there's a 6-footer with glasses and a shock of silver hair, turn yourself around and 'Google' 'Maytag, Hazelwood, Mo.'. God help you ------ because Gomer certainly WON'T.
