Just ordered/ate for the first time from Slims and I'm sold, this place is at the top of my list for dinners moving forwards. Thanks for nailing it guys. Ordered a chicken Po-boy sandwich and the two Chicago style hotdogs/fries combo. Firstly delivery is very quick. Was here in 25 minutes from the time of order (estimate is 35-45 minutes, here in 25), for 6pm on a Saturday evening they have their shit together getting the food out quickly, accurately and delivered fast. I would suggest changing the name to "Slims fast" or "Slims faster" but I'm sure the legalities would be insane and there would no doubt be protests by young college kids who's feelings were hurt, but you get the gist.... Next, the food arrived fast, hot, well separated and the fries were crispy .... fuckin crispy the way god intended them to be. Most places you get fries either as a filler if the sandwich isn't enough to fill you up, or because they come free as part of the meal, and normally end up in the garbage can. Slims fries were hot, crispy and flavorful (not moist and damp like Madonna's panties) I actually ate the fries and wanted more. Thumbs up on the fries!!!! Importantly the sandwiches (Po-boy and hotdogs) were all individually wrapped and hot to the touch keeping the flavor profiles separate and not having to reassemble the sandwich when it arrived (I had images of Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura kicking the box down the hallway "were going downtown" scene in the back of my mind when I was selecting sandwiches due to the price and lack of experience with this place) but was thankful and impressed they took the time to make sure the food arrived the way it left the store (most places will wrap the items lightly or put in a plastic container and by the time the food arrives the scents/tastes have somewhat transferred to the other food in the bag, this is not the case here) Living in a high rise I was expecting the usual call from the driver (come to the lobby to collect your food, your name isn't in the directory, I'm double parked, don't want to get a ticket or a myriad of excuses) but nope, even the driver was on par, buzzed me, introduced himself as "good evening I'm with Slims I have a delivery for you" bought the food to my door and was polite, I actually wished I had more cash on hand to tip the guy more than I already had. Hands down Slims blows me away, yeah it's a burger and hot dog place, but for speed, value, delivery, and ease of getting what you ordered I give them 5 stars, I would be willing to pay more (and have paid more) for the quality of the food I received. You guys nailed it, keep it up!!!! read more

Finally. When I travel to other cities, I like to sample the indigenous junk cuisine in addition to higher-end and more exotic fare. In Chicago, of course, junk cuisine largely means deep-dish pizza, Chicago dogs, and Italian beef sandwiches. In several past visits, I've been able to appreciate the deep-dish, but have been perplexed by the mediocrity of the dogs and Italian beef at a couple of chain-ish spots where we've sampled them. Slim's, though, goes a long way toward justifying the Chicago-dog and Italian-beef hype. For the first time in my experience, the Chicago dog toppings seemed to meld harmoniously. The dog itself tasted high-quality. The Italian beef and its juices had more depth of flavor than you'd expect in a five-buck sandwich. Curly fries were tasty, too. Slim's has a bare-bones, almost snack-bar kind of feel. Which is just fine for this kind of fare. Plus the place looked clean and sharp, and the service was snappy. read more

Delivery took a while, (I live 15 minutes away but it took them an hour and then some) but they gave me a cookie for the wait. :D Now to the food. Spicy Po' Boy tasted like magic. The sauce is exactly what I'd imagine the sauce from Good Burger to taste. Chicken is crunchy and crisp. Bread is a little chewy, but it's a small price to pay. Also cheap! Italian Beef: A LOT OF BEEF. EMPHASIS ON BEEF. THEY DON'T CUT CORNERS ON THE MEAT HERE. Sweet peppers are not that sweet. They don't put a lot of peppers.. Fish sandwich was good. I ordered the Steak Sandwich, Chicago style hot dog & strawberry shake. Steak Sandwich: the steak on it was not good, the meat was tough, rubbery like, and had a good amount of fat on it, the condiments on it were delicious though. Probably the worse steak sandwich I had soo far, I ate half the meat, cut off the excess fat, gave the rest to my dog. Chicago style hot dog: was better then the steak sandwich, tasted like an all beef hot dog, well dressed with condiments and spicy peppers. The bread was a little soggy when I received it, but I had it delivered and that was to be expected. Strawberry Shake: was delicious, tasted just like strawberry nesquik, it probably was lol. My friend had the spicy poboy chicken sandwich, she said it was delicious and liked the dressing on it. Delivery took over an hour to reach the apartment where I stayed. Overall, I'm not sure why there were soo many 4/5 star reviews. I'm a tourist in Downtown Chicago, and my opinion is, the food was overpriced for its quality. I didn't want to have to leave a negative review but I don't think it's right to falsely advertise your prices. I ordered a burger and a side today and wasn't given the total over the phone but I thought, that's ok it says the price on their website. When I got there the burger was $3 more than advertised on their site. So I asked why and they said that they had to raise their prices but haven't posted it on their site and they didn't want to credit me the difference. The quality and value continues to decline at Slim's. The formerly Portillo grade onion rings are now the out of a box, frozen onion mush ring covered in some type of corn batter, all perfectly round/exactly the same size rings so you know this onion pulp ring is overly manufactured and lacks the flavor or a nice crisp bite into a real onion ring. I have commented in the recent past about the steep price increase if you are ordering their beef menu items. I now come once a month vs weekly. Since new ownership, I can't say it is holding up to the once stellar local burger joint it was. read more

Wow!!! Second time ordering delivery since we arrived in Chicago last week and we are delighted with the food and the service. The Slim burger is an awesome mountain of delicious food. Had to order this because I've never had a huge (1/3 lb) cheeseburger topped with a pile of Italian beef along with sweet and hot peppers. A fantastic feast. Also had the Italian sausage sandwich with sweet and hot peppers piled on top. Jasmine was a delight on the phone and recommended a cup of beef juice on the side. The Elote corn bites were a tasty addition to my over indulgence. They came with a spicy mayo sauce for dipping. My wife had the mixed green salad which was sensational with its strawberry vinegarette. Toppings on the salad greens included walnuts, dried cranberries, Granny Smith apples and a major serving of blue cheese. Last week my wife had the Cobb salad which was also a winner. I topped of the meal with an order of Chile cheese fries. I was concerned that it would show up soggy, but Jasmine told me the the fries are packed in a bag and the chili and hot cheese are packed in separate plastic containers. Everything was packed beautifully and was totally delicious. Last week I had an Italian beef, a grilled Polish sausage and a great Chicago Vienna hot dog with all the toppings. The new management increased the prices which makes zero sense. I went in yesterday to pick up my Slim burger with a side of mozzarella sticks, the same meal I've been getting for 5 years for at least 9 bucks. They tried charging me 18 dollars! Maybe I didn't get the diner food Slim's is known for but my food was a little bland. Got the soup de jour.. Alright fine soup of the day which was French onion soup. It was lacking flavour for my taste, I added in some Frank's from their hot sauce selection to add some zip. I also got the Cobb salad, but they forgot the blue cheese, when I went up to the counter however, the clerk was very responsive and got the kitchen to fill me up a cuppy of blue cheese. Chicken was fairly standard grilled chicken breast, salad was fresh and big enough for two meals. The pizza roll brought back memories for my friend, they enjoyed the chili cheese dog and the very fresh fries. I had a bite and would come back to try some of the less healthy options!
