Stopped by for the first time last night. The boss bought us some cheese curds to try. They were very good - lightly battered and not overcooked. Definitely worth ordering. We had the fish. Normally I don't like catfish; I find it too mushy. These pieces, in addition to being the size of my hand, were cooked perfectly and had an excellent flavor. If I were to choose to eat catfish, I'd do it here. Definitely worth it. read more

First they messed up the order. We Ordered two gyro bowls 1-spicy and 1-regular with green peppers and onions. They bring the food out and it's 1 gyro bowl w/ the peppers as NO ONIONS (I didn't figure this out until I got home ) and a gyro burrito spicy. Like where did I say burrito? I didn't. So they had to refund me the entire order and re ring me up. Remind you I wanted to go to Culver's across the street and my sisters said let's try this! Bad experience from the get go. I've said it before, and I'll say it again.. Brooklyn Center is a desolate wasteland for restaurants. Then, this local place pops up not too long ago. I've been hesitant to try it simply because of the point above. But, finally got around to it this weekend. First and foremost, the menu presentation sucks. There is no detail at all on what you're getting. You order a sandwich - you have no idea what you're getting with it. It could be served with dog shit or cat piss on it, you'd never know. Which leads to my next point for those saying to themselves "ask the person taking your order." Yeah, you go ahead and try that. Rude, short, condescending and a flat out bitch that hated her job. Those aren't my words, but, the girlfriend's words. "Your order?" That's how it all started. You can imagine how much fun this was going to be! I didn't bother even asking what would come on the sandwich after listening to Ashley order her food. She ordered chicken strips and a cup for water, for what it's worth. She just got a glare for asking for a cup for water (and considering they're the cheap, small plastic kind you'd serve a small child with - clearly they have designated water cups) and never actually got a cup, as the glare turned to me. No ask of what I wanted or anything, just a glare from the screen. Everything inside told me to say fuck it and leave... but... no. Have to try it despite this snarling soul crusher trying to wreck the fantastic day. I throw in a grilled chicken sandwich, sweet tater fries, and a cup for water as well. Then, her first word my way... "Cheese?" Uhhh yes please? I look at Ashley dumbfounded, and just say "Swiss?" Face goes back to the screen and is pecked. Then I really piss her off by ordering more food in the way of cheese curds. Queue big sigh. Then the item is entered. Pay, get a number, and go sit down. Look how long this review is without even getting to the food. Yeah, don't bother people. Seriously. Food... the chicken sandwich was a garbage dumpster of grease and ingredients (think Philly cheesesteak kind of ingredients). Chicken is essentially diced to hell, and smothered in grease, then thrown on to a bun. I literally couldn't taste anything but onions, peppers, and grease. It was an abomination of a sandwich. For those that know me, or have seen what and how much I've ate - I threw away half of this sandwich. My stomach couldn't handle the grease that was literally dripping out of this thing. Cheese curds were terrible and served with no dipping sauce. Flavorless all around, and the only thing you got was a bit of salt from the batter. Chicken strips were over battered and over fried. We actually left a full strip because neither of us wanted to try and choke down it down. The only somewhat decent thing was the sweet tater fries. I never thought I'd say this, but after putting myself through something like this.... go to Culvers across the street. Far better service, better quality of food and just a better value for your money. read more

I really have no idea how this place has four stars on yelp. The burger was low quality and greasy. Thin fatty bacon. Fries were nothing special. I didn't make it much more than halfway thru the burger but I think that was less to do with size or more to do with the fact that it just wasn't worth finishing. I have been here several times with my family. Can be a but pricey (around $25 for 3 hungry people) but the food will definitely fill you up! I personally am a picky eater, so I always order the chicken strip with cheese curds. The chicken strips are a solid 6/10 for me. The actual meat itself is definitely real and is flowing with juices, although because of that it is very greasy. The batter for them is extremely tasteless, and I am thinking of adding salt next time I go. Other than that the chicken strips are delicious! The cheese curds are absolutely splendid! As a huge cheese fanatic, I almost always order a side of cheese curds if available. Slim's cheese curds taste fresh, and are fried perfectly. Again, hey are flowing with juices and are extremely greasy, so you're going to need quite a few napkins. The cheese isn't too strong, nor too bland. It almost tastes the exact same as the cheese curds you would get at the state fair. Overall, their food is fantastic. Quick overview: - Greasy, so you'll be needing at least 10 napkins. - Chicken tastes real, looks real, and is real. - Chicken batter could have some seasonings to spice it up, but salt should be enough. - Cheese curds are amazing, and are 8 times better than the ones you can get at the Culver's right across the street! - Runs a bit pricey (the chicken strips and cheese curds run at about $8) Chicken strips: 6/10 Cheese curds: 10/10 Overall, a solid 8/10! First time eating at Slim's. The person who took the order seems like she has no energy and needs to talk louder. Aside from that the wings are good, crispy and fully marinated in buffalo sauce. The cooks talked to me as they constructed it and when the pizza came out it looked amazing and didn't take too long at all. Wowzers! What a disappointment! We were so excited to try the wings however when they arrived the were raw & extremely salty! We immediately sent them back..... Not to mention the blue cheese tasted like mayonnaise... We also tried the Monster Burger this was another major disappointment! Flavorless, greasy & packed with chunks of gristle! The fries were two thumbs down as well! The whole time I was sitting there, I was actually looking to my right at Culver's across the street, wishing I was eating a double juicy Mushroom Swiss burger & crinkle fies! Not a fan! People have raved about the wings and I have discovered that you "don't believe the hype!" They were dry and over cooked! The gyros were not good either, crispy meat and it was thin! We have eaten here a few times and not been disappointed. We have had the deluxe cheesesteak, gyro, Italian beef, and wings. They were all really good. I really used to like this place about 3-4 years ago. I just went tonight and its nothing like it used to be. No phillys or meal deal combos.(they used to) No more drinks with wing combos either. :( I really do like the wings but I really dont think its worth the price anymore especially since theres no more phillys. The name Slim's is a bit of an oxymoron because you don't come here to slim your waist. This is the place to go for indulgence and in the two visits I made, I indulged. Slim's is tucked away deep in Brooklyn Center. You can enjoy some pretty good grub here if you're willing to make the trek or live near the area. On my first trip I nabbed myself an order of fried chicken wings. They're not the best wings I've ever had but still really good. Crunchy, nicely seasoned and solid. My second visit I went on a cheese blitz while satisfying a bit of a philly cheesesteak craving I was having. I ordered the classic cheesesteak with provolone cheese and a side order of cheese fries (generous helping of fries) with cheez whiz dripping on top. That was some good eating. I liked the cheesesteak but I suspect a cheesesteak with cheez whiz would have taken it up a level. Again, not the best I've had but still pretty darn good. Slim's is worth a try. Go there and YOLO a meal. I don't think you'll regret it. read more

Three strikes they are out. Never again. Got a small Gyro bowl - drive thru sign reads $6.99 - when I get to the window it's $7.49. They put the gyro sauce over the rice. The rice is somewhat old (hard), the gyro meat is over done, dry. It's at most luke warm. Don't waste your time or money. read more

I found Slim's on yelp and decided to give it a try. I drove there and ordered a 5 piece dinner and some onion rings. The order was done in less than ten minutes and I returned to my motel room. The onion rings are awesome. Crispy and big. I also got 5 wings. honey bbq sauce, french fries and cole slaw. The cole slaw was warm because it was in the bag with the hot food. It was still OK but next time I sit it in the fridge for a few minutes. The fries were seasoned and crispy. The wings were crispy and tasted good dipped in the Honey BBQ sauce. Great local place with a wide variety of menu options. I have eaten at Slim's a few times. The food was good each time and the service has been great. In total we have tried pizza, buffalo wings, gyro, and Italian beef sandwich. So far I haven't had anything that I'd rave about, but everything I have tried has been above average with the exception of the fry seasoning (there was something funky going on with it). read more

Slims provides good prompt food for your dining pleasure! I'm a big fan of the Italian beef and fries! Delicious moist Italian beef (get the hot peppers with it) and crisp fresh fries. I've eaten at slims a few times, the food is just okay, my gf really likes the wings so we drove all the way to Brooklyn park to get a 12 piece order. What a disappointment, only 3 of the wings were edible the rest of them were raw. I called to let them know and their response was, that I should take a picture of them and send a pic of it to one of their personal cell numbers "so they could show it to the cooks." I was clearly outraged and choose just to take a loss, instead of giving my number out to a random person. I work in the service industry, and at my job when we make a mistake or have a complaint, we take care of our customers. Needless to say I'll never eat there again. read more

Heard about this place and had to make the trip when I came to Minnesota. We ordered the cheesesteak Sandwich, Cheese Burger, and Chicken Wings. All were beyond superb but what stood out the most was the seasoning they sprinkle on their chicken wings WOW! Just amazing and finger licking! Next time I'm in town I will definitely be visiting! I was going to the chain restaurant across the street when I noticed Slim's. I am always up for trying something new and local. My experience was not great. The gal taking orders didn't even know if they had milk I could order for my kid. She didn't really seem like she wanted to find out either. There was no healthy alternative for fries on the kids menu. Then we were going to get pizza. Was informed they don't have that any more and the reason it's still on the menu is because "we don't have a marker". What? Food was ok. Charged for two drinks and only ordered one. Our meals were horrible. The fries had an odd cinnamon and sugar seasoning. The bacon was tasteless! The lamb was gross. Even the ice cream shake tasted off and I couldn't eat it. How is that even possible?! My son and I ate 1/8 th at most, out of starvation. We both felt physically ill before we could leave. I wanted to tell the people going inside to run away. The wings are tasty but not what we are used to because they use the entire wing with what my sister would call including the hopper. The malts are really good . Some of the fried things are greasy. I had the reuben sandwich which was ok but i missed the thousand island dressing on it. The philly steak sandwich is good. I've driven past this place for a few years and never bothered to stop. Decided to give this place a try. We had their classic gyro and their chicken tenders combo. The service was very polite and fast. The combos were hot and had flavors you expect. The interior looked clean and well maintained. We will definitely be back to try other menu items. read more
