Seriously, try to engage them, they are knowledgeable of records, equipment, and generally if they don't know the answer, they'll point you to someone who can give you the answer. The owner has an encyclopedic knowledge of music and every record in the shop. I hit him with an old 60s title, looking for the original label, and he walked straight to a stack of records in the front of the shop, flipped through the stack and pulled out an album I've been hunting for across Indiana for over a year. And I got an incredible price, which is important, because this guy is not a price gouger! He actually wants people to get deals on their music -- not greedy like many places we've been to in a 200-mile radius. The opposite, in fact. Make a point of stopping here and spending some time. Come looking for your White Whale and you just might find it like I did.

The newest location on 94th is a massive downgrade. The building appears to be a third of the size of the old building and it is a very long not wide hallway. I cannot stress enough that the way that the store is laid out are for people to go through the aisles is like a one-way traffic system. If there's two people walking a toward each other they have to turn sideways and squeeze by, which is ridiculous. Going from the old building to this one seems like a very troublesome downgrade for everybody, mainly for the customers. Maybe they'll expand like they did at the last store, but I doubt it since they are clearly trying to save money by moving out of the old space on La Grange.

Including the record/band/artist reference book in the front, where those artist/band and album name books used to be periodically mailed out to his record store and other stores, by a certain company. Though from what he told me, that company stopped producing those reference books by the early 2000s, sadly to say. The unfortunate thing is that too many other Chicago record stores seem a little overpriced IMO for their used records, such as for example Rattleback Records in Andersonville(Chicago) and Rediscover Records(Elgin). I'm glad this store wasn't like that for being overpriced for used records, and actually OTOH was pretty affordable. Their prices for used CDs, DVDs, and tapes was decent, as well. Yes no doubt for some people this store may be slightly out of the way. But I'd say for darn sure if you do like browsing in a record store, you should visit here at least once in your life! I do like how the inside of this store still felt pretty old school in its inside look, as well. And probably little changed, from when(I think) it first opened in the 1970s.

I came in and was directed to a separate counter for selling products. The nice, helpful staffer took my name and number and told me they would call me in 10-20 minutes. I expected them to look it over while I was present, but asking me to wait a while looking over the selections was fine. I went to run an errand and received a call sooner than expected. They were able to use some CDs and offered me $12 cash OR $15 store credit. I chose cash. It was a nice exchange. The 2nd time I came I was not so lucky but it's fine. There were quite a few people there both times. I did not get any pics inside, but the new location is quite convenient, just a walk-in on Wabash. I have not purchased anything, but in addition to music, they have posters and pins.

The staff will look up books to buy new for 20% off, too, if they are still in publication. The gentleman behind the desk showed us some special editions of some books. Although we could not buy them, it was really interesting to see. Good selection and genres are well marked so you will be able to find science or science fiction books.

On the right side are the more popular records that range from $20+ (also have plastic covers) and the CD selection. The guy that owns the store is very friendly. He was telling me that he has been at the location for about 8-9 years. What's really nice is that he looks at each record and cleaned them on this cool machine. Made the records look like new! Thank you so much, sir! I'll definitely be back soon!
