I finally went here a few weekends ago, after wanting for ages to visit this store. Honestly this store was SO GREAT to browse, that I wish I had visited here sooner. And the prices are really great, as well. The owner(I forget his name) was really awesome to talk to, and explained a lot about the store to me. Including the record/band/artist reference book in the front, where those artist/band and album name books used to be periodically mailed out to his record store and other stores, by a certain company. Though from what he told me, that company stopped producing those reference books by the early 2000s, sadly to say. The unfortunate thing is that too many other Chicago record stores seem a little overpriced IMO for their used records, such as for example Rattleback Records in Andersonville(Chicago) and Rediscover Records(Elgin). I'm glad this store wasn't like that for being overpriced for used records, and actually OTOH was pretty affordable. Their prices for used CDs, DVDs, and tapes was decent, as well. Yes no doubt for some people this store may be slightly out of the way. But I'd say for darn sure if you do like browsing in a record store, you should visit here at least once in your life! I do like how the inside of this store still felt pretty old school in its inside look, as well. And probably little changed, from when(I think) it first opened in the 1970s. read more

I've been here a few times. Reasonable selection of new vinyl with good pricing. The used vinyl is hit and miss. A little off the beaten path but if you are out on a record dig weekend drive out here and check it out. You likely will find at least one record you are looking for. read more

To tell you the truth, I really don't think they get a heck of a lot of business. Partly because of location. I went in during the week. No one was in the store. The owner? was not especially she out of your friendly. I would think just from loneliest viewpoint that they would be glad that someone came in. I walked out with nothing. I think the smart thing to do would say what were you looking for? That way when people bring in CDs he knows whether or not he should keep them. Then again it's not my business. Prices were right. CDs were $1 to $2. Quite a variety. Not alphabetical. So I had to go through all of them. On the other hand by going through all of them I might have found something else I wasn't looking for. I agree with what c.g. says about this place. It's nice having around in that area, and it is an institution, having been open more than 40 years. The used vinyl selection is only so so however--good finds in rock and related genre, but not so much in terms of classical or jazz. Lots of new vinyl is in stock, so there's always that to check out instead. read more

Its an alright record shop. Not the most easy to navigate though, a lot of records are just put in $1 areas and not organized. While it was cool to get a bunch of cds and a few posters for under $15, they didn't have enough change in the register for the initial ammount of purchases I made. Its cool that prices are pretty low and the wide variety, but the store could use a big of organization. Plan to go back in the future! read more

I never sold vinyl here but this is where go to browse bargain bins and find old vinyl that isn't marked up like some of the other places around this area. For example I was just browsing the clearance section and I came across a first pressing of the Beatles White album in great shape. I once saw it at other stores anywhere from 50-75 dollars, here it was 20. The man and his dog inside are very nice. The hours aren't always ideal but sometimes you just have to make a call to check if it is open. If picking up your phone and calling is too much of an inconvenience for you then this is not the store for you. Not only do they have old vinyl but they have new vinyl as well. Ask the man to find something for you and you will be getting a call back within a couple of days to see if he could locate it for you. Overall it's a nice little spot to get your vinyl fix on. read more
