Just a quick update on one of my favorite shops in Evanston. While the pandemic and my own…read moreprecaution level has prevented me from taking my weekly trips here to spend a good hour or so digging through all the different bins (you never know what treasures you may find), I will say their social media game is killing it. They're great about posting "Friday flips" on Instagram to show what's new, and posting throughout the week with new books, vinyl, and other items that come in. They're really quite creative with it as well, so it's always entertaining to watch and still get some weekly Squeezebox content virtually. And, they make it super easy and tempting to DM them when you see something you like to have them hold it for you -- I've done that a few times on an impulse when I see something that captures my attention. All the staff here are awesome as well. Highly recommend!

Vintage Vinyl is one of the only record stores where I could spend hours looking through the huge selection of original albums without worrying about not having a good time. And the prices are really great, as well. The owner(I forget his name) was really awesome to talk to, and explained a lot about the store to me. Including the record/band/artist reference book in the front, where those artist/band and album name books used to be periodically mailed out to his record store and other stores, by a certain company. Though from what he told me, that company stopped producing those reference books by the early 2000s, sadly to say. The unfortunate thing is that too many other Chicago record stores seem a little overpriced IMO for their used records, such as for example Rattleback Records in Andersonville(Chicago) and Rediscover Records(Elgin). I'm glad this store wasn't like that for being overpriced for used records, and actually OTOH was pretty affordable. Their prices for used CDs, DVDs, and tapes was decent, as well. Yes no doubt for some people this store may be slightly out of the way. But I'd say for darn sure if you do like browsing in a record store, you should visit here at least once in your life! I do like how the inside of this store still felt pretty old school in its inside look, as well. And probably little changed, from when(I think) it first opened in the 1970s.

If you're looking for lots of stock of new stuff this might not be your spot but if you want fairly priced used records then this is a great spot. I have found a lot of hidden gems in here over the years at both locations. In the past I've gotten nice vinyl copies of hard rock bands like Captain Beyond and Lucifers Friend for NOT discogs/online prices. Last week I got a sealed Weird Al cassette for just a few dollars and this album is not available on vinyl so it makes it extra fun. They are not trying to be cool or capitalize on vinyl - they just like and sell lots of music and media. Go support - Go dig!
