During our visit to Pensacola, from California we stumbled upon this little gem for a cocktail. We sat at the bar and had the pleasure of having Stephen as our bartender. He not only made us great drinks but he was also very engaging and fun to converse with. He told us about the happy hour so we returned later that afternoon to check it out. We ordered the best oysters, fresh from that day and shucked to order. The sauce selection was fantastic, as was their house made sauce (which we bought two bottles of to bring home). At only $1 an oyster they were a steal. The BBQ shrimp was incredible. House-made Louisiana style BBQ sauce was to die for. It comes with garlic bread to soak it up with. Our $8 wine showed up in plastic cups!!!!! Staff is very confused had to flag down one to order our overpriced meals. Server shows up after a long wait brought food that wasn't ours. Finally some of our food came and it was cold. My friend got his entree then 20 minutes later they brought out his appetizer. Had to chase the staff for our checks. The service here is great - I had a super personable waitress. However, the food was not as great as my waitress. It is possible that it just wasn't my cup of tea. I ordered the crawfish beignets which came with a great sauce. They were a bit too salty for my liking. The lobster roll was not very flavorful and could have used more seasoning. The sidewinder fries were the star of the show. They were fried perfectly but overall; I did not enjoy the food at slick lips. First things first, seafood is super important in Pensacola and slick lips understands that well, with plenty of delicious options it won't disappoint. Our host and server were incredibly attentive and offered plenty of menu suggestions. Also slick lips offers a 20 percent gratuity onto the bill so it offers that convenience so you don't need to do the math at the end of your meal (I don't know why more restaurants don't do that) my only complaint is that compared to other seafood restaurants in the area slick lips is on the more expensive side ( but it's on palafox so I guess you pay palafox prices). We waited a while for our 2 servers to return for entree requests for the 3 of us. We waited 45... minutes. First time coming here, when looking online the food looked delicious! Arrived, ordered appetizers and were served (dozen chargrilled oysters and crawfish beignets) an hour later. Originally asked for the tuna dip appetizer but in lieu of crackers asked for cucumbers due to gluten sensitivity. It was then we were told two chefs had walked out that evening so they were short handed and couldn't make modifications. Really upsetting when it takes less than a minute to slice a cucumber. Based on my past life in service industry when experiencing any type of delay where food will be prevented from coming out timely it is courtesy is to let your customers know. However, they failed to do so. Food wasn't prepared as asked and overall it just wasn't that great. The only good thing about our experience was the server and we did feel bad for her. But my clue should have been the fact there were only 6 people in the restaurant and I was in a party of three.... The crab claws were decent priced at $27 and were actually pretty good. Then it went down hill. The Alfredo pasta was runny and not that flavorful, basically a butter noodle and very bland. The fried shrimp were okay- not great- okay. The broiled oysters were not "broiled" at all. They were just shy of raw with sauce on top. I was so excited to check this place out and the decorations were awesome, the waitress was great. I came to slick lips hoping to find a menu that would entice my taste buds and an ambiance to fit the vibe that comes with Pensacola's Palafox Street. The location, as far as access, is wonderful. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with colors and decor that set the mood to just settle in and relax. We sat in a window seat that is up on a raised, built-in platform area that oversees the rest of restaurant and gives you plenty to look at while you're enjoying your visit. The food was phenomenal- I had the scallops and my guest had the chicken Alfredo. Both presentations were spot on and the flavors were dynamite! I think the manager really made the visit for me though. Andreas stopped by, spoke with us and really made us feel like part of everything they are trying to do with this restaurant. NOTE: We were the only customers in the restaurant at 11:30 on a Thursday morning. Cons: The gumbo was fragrant, but had little taste and the scant seafood in it was way overcooked; the mahi was not seasoned and was overcooked; the "warm soft flour tortillas" for the tacos were a bit toasted and crisp (perhaps warmed on the grill?); the restaurant was very dark. Pros: The pleasant hostess; Amy, our server who was personable and attentive; the fries. To start this what brought me into the restaurant was the sign posted out front of their featured drinks. I had pasted by a couple times and was excited to try their lavender punch because it's one of my favorite flowers. I was sweetly greeted at first by our host. He seemed a bit tired but that's completely understandable, I see him consistently working out front to draw in customers. What wasn't so pleasant was our server. She just didn't have that server charm nor positive attitude. Before even greeting us she informed us of a required 20% gratuity tip and said a 15 tip ON TOP OF THAT is "recommended". I then asked if that was still required if I only wanted to order the one drink, which she replied "you can't take drinks to go". I was confused, said "pardon" to which she repeated herself, showing she hadn't listened to what my original question was at all. I told her politely that's not what I asked and relayed my question, she replied with a flat "yeah, I'll bring you some waters" and walked off. I kept an upbeat attitude since my husband and I were enjoying our afternoon, and after all I only wanted to try the lavender drink. When she returned, I ask about the lavender drink. She had no clue what I was talking about, I repeated the drink 3 times and she still replied with "I've never heard of that". By this point my husband was so disinterested he didn't order anything at all and he's quite the foodie. Once receiving my drink, I removed having the thought,'I just want to finish this and leave.' I have been here before and had no issues but this time was not great. We never got our drinks filled and we were there for 3 hours. We were in town this past weekend for a vacation and we're looking for some good seafood considering we were at the beach. We stumbled upon Slick Lips, and decided to give it a try. Not to mention: we were warned about the quality of this establishment before we even entered by many locals in the downtown area. We were starving from a long day of traveling and decided to try it opinions aside. We first ordered the calamari as an appetizer, which came out with about 2 pieces of calamari each (2people) and the rest were fried peppers. We sent it back, and they came back with slightly more calamari that time. We also ordered wine that tasted like it had been sitting opened in the refrigerator for days. Our meals came out, and the one shrimp plate we ordered was ice cold. We sent that back and it was fixed. I also ordered fried okra which they said they ran out of so I changed it to Brussel sprouts but they proceeded to charge us for the fried okra we never received. At the end of our meal, the bill came out to $90 for 2 people which is not fitting for the quality of food we received. We then confronted the manager about our bill considering we had sent all but one dish back for reasons that were their problem. When speaking with the manager Tim, he was completely unprofessional and said that because they fixed all of the issues he thought it was still right we paid for the whole bill and charged us for something we never received. Tim told us their was nothing he could do about the bill and that we had To take time out of our trip to come back to talk to Jay the general manager the next day. We were not going to do that, so we chose to call jay the next day. When we did, Jay said he would assess the situation and call us back but, we never received a call back. All of this to say- this restaurant has management that seems like they have never ran a restaurant before and clearly was not trained properly on customer service.
