I was seated in the middle of the bar with customers on both sides of me. My server took my drink and food order, and after that, she never returned to check on me. I watched her walk past me several times while attending to the customers directly to my left and right. Not once did she ask how my food was, whether I needed another drink, a box, or my check. Eventually, another server noticed my frustration and asked if I needed anything. I told him I needed a box and my check and explained that my server had never returned to check on me. His response was, "We are all working the bar." That response was unnecessary and dismissive. If everyone was working the bar, it makes it even more confusing that I sat there for so long without anyone checking on me. A simple, "I'm sorry about that. Let me take care of you," would have been the appropriate response. I understand restaurants get busy, and I don't expect perfection. However, basic attentiveness and customer service should be expected, especially when a customer is sitting directly at the bar. Unfortunately, this experience was very disappointing.

On the side, I had a salad with their homemade ranch dressing. Without a doubt, this is some of the best ranch dressing I have ever had. The bartender, Cody, was outstanding as well. I tried the Lime Margarita, Blackberry Mojito, and the Strawberry Basil drink. Every one of them was fantastic. You can tell this is a place that people genuinely enjoy working at. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere was relaxing, and the customers all seemed happy to be there. It's rare to find a restaurant that gets everything right, but Avenue Pub comes very close. It's a dive alright because some of the ceiling tiles were moldy and the deck had a sign to not pee off of it (or words to that effect, I don't recall). There's a variety of seating inside and out. We visited on an ordinary Friday in the 4 o'clock hour when it wasn't busy. Most of the patrons appeared to be regulars/locals. When we left, closer to 5pm, some cars started rolling in. I can see this being a pretty hopping spot, but I'm not sure. This place is very no-frills with an older crowd (think gray/white hairs). One of the guys we spoke to at the bar was in his 70s. I know every bad review says this, but genuinely, if I could give this place zero stars I would. This was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had and probably ever will. To start things off, we waited about three whole hours to get our food. This alone was enough to make anyone mad, but unfortunately that wasn't even the worst part. When we did get our food, half of us got the wrong order and none of us got our sides. On top of that, the food tasted terrible. The worst part about this though was the waitress. I don't think she gave us her name but I wish I could remember. She kept bringing us more and more drinks that we didn't order, claiming they were "on the house". She accused one of us of ordering top shelf vodka, even though she didn't, and she gave her two extra orders of that drink without her ordering it. That drink alone ended up being like half of the check because of the vodka she snuck in there. She was also smoking and drinking the whole time, and was dropping f-bombs in front of the kids throughout the whole dinner. She literally came up to the kids table and said "your parents are f***ing r***rded". Pretty much she was just very rude and not at all professional the entire night and her actions and demeanor were insanely inappropriate. For the insane wait alone I would've expected any decent restaurant to give some kind of discount. But the fact that they also tried to basically scam us by trying to get us drunk so we wouldn't notice all of the random additional charges for stuff we didn't order, AND they didn't even give us half of our food, made it even worse. The bottom line is DO NOT GO HERE. The only part about it that wasn't literally horrible was the like thirty minutes of live music they had. Worst restaurant I've ever been to. If everything was right with the world this restaurant would be shut down and that waitress would be banned from working at any restaurant ever again. read more

I recently dined at the Sandbar and was disappointed with the quality of their crab claws. The claws seemed spoiled and had a distinct taste of ammonia, which was quite off-putting. While the staff was accommodating and removed the dish from our bill, I was taken aback when they prepared another batch and encouraged us to try them again. They reassured us that the crab claws were fine, claiming to have just sampled them themselves. Overall, the experience with the crab claws at the Sandbar left much to be desired, and I would caution others to approach this dish with caution. read more

The food was amazing I'm so glad to have a great blackened red fish tacos. The were cooked perfectly and other restaurants I ask for blackened and they are seasoned well just not blackened. The oyster combo was amazing it says it comes with three different types of oysters but we got four. Definitely recommend a place like this the view was nice and pretty. The waiting time wasn't bad but it took like 15 minutes to ask us for appetizers or anything but they did say they were running slow that night. Go there and you won't regret it! read more

When we entered, a table was super easy to find. Now I know I shouldn't have been surprised that people aren't standing in line out front like Peg Leg Pete's or Shaggy's. It took at least 30 minutes for the waitstaff to acknowledge us. It took nearly 45 minutes for our food to arrive - and only because we hounded our server a few times. Our crab was served still frozen and slimy. They are horribly understaffed - only 2 waitresses when we were there on a Saturday night. We learned that the owner was present sitting at the bar the whole time we were there and did nothing to help his staff give customers the experience they deserved for the $37 crab boil ($8 more expensive than Peg Leg Pete's). The one bright spot in the evening was the gentleman tending bar. He was hustling not only attend to the orders for those seated at the bar, but also those seated elsewhere and finally went to the bar themselves because the wait staff couldn't keep up.

The creamy chowder is a shrimp and crab lover's dream. We amped up the heat to our taste with a few dashes of Crystal hot sauce. The chowder is definitely a do again dish for us. Our friend ordered the a la carte fried oysters and they looked so good we're returning today to give them a try (along with more mullet, of course). Mahi tacos were delicious. I'm a native Californian and they were comparable to what I'd expect from a shop back home. Chips and salsa as a side is unusual, but they were light and airy. This was the only one that severely disappointed. Seated quickly outside. Not in the restaurant's control, but it was very hot & muggy. No breeze and no fans. Ordered a dozen raw oysters. Waitress forgot them. She brought them after we reminded her. They were half the size of the oysters we got at three other restaurants. For entrée I ordered one of their specialties. Waitress told me it came with two sides. They charged extra for the second side. I'm fully aware of how much these places charge. Was not expecting to sweat through a 'just ok' meal for three for $200... My fault. Next time I'll trust my Yelp reviews.

Even saw a kid catch a fish. the service was top tier, our waiter always ensured our drinks were filled, and that we were good. Burger (not pictured sadly) was fantastic. I am not a sea food guy, but my wife is and it was a nice sized burger and seasoned well and tasted fantastic. Wife loved the Mahi Mahi. Now their drinks are very strong, almost a little too strong for me.
