In fact, Oxford University research reveal that the more often people eat and connect with others, the more likely they are to feel happy and satisfied with their lives. The results demonstrates that people who eat socially are more likely to feel better about themselves and have a wider social network capable of providing social and emotional support to combat physical and mental illness. Despite the clear correlation between social eating and bonding, the study also reveals a third of the weekday evening meals are eaten alone due to hectic work and life schedules, over two-third of people have never shared a meal with a neighbour, and one in five questioned have not shared dinner with a close friend or family in more than six months at home, a cafe or in a restaurant. Well thank goodness for Gentile Pizza Parlour - named after the last name of the family that started and continues to run business since 1959 - yeah hat's right, three generations of Gentile Family that have been bringing people together with food. Guests get to enjoy a warm and comfortable family Italian eatery that is full of timeless recipes and traditions. Although the Westmout location was opened in 2016 it feels like it has been there forever, where you can see why regulars come back - they are greeted by their name and are treated as a member of the family. And that's exactly how we felt with Danny, our wonderful waiter, who patiently took our order, offered suggestions and was incredibly attentive all evening long. They could blame the excessive number of seats, but peeking into the open kitchen, it became very obvious where the problem was. Throughout the night, the service staff can be seen perpetually apologizing to each table. The wait staff truly tried their best, but when the kitchen is disorganized and run by guys who truly seem to not give a damn, the wait staff, and ultimately the patrons suffer. The caprice of the evening was when I suggested to the kitchen that they cover to post tips their wait staff are losing due to their inability to get an order out in under 45 minutes. Their response was "Get the f"*k out of here loser". Was I over the top? Perhaps, but the kitchen and management should be aware that if you are going to populate a terrace with more seats than the kitchen can competently service, there will be a problem. At 900 degrees a pizza cooks in about 2 minutes. Getting a pizza from order to table should not take 45 minutes. And to be served a pizza with an overly charred and bitter crust is unacceptable. I truly feel for the wait staff. They are being undermined by the back end operation. AITA?

This is exceptional pizza created by an energetic and passionate staff. They sell several great pies and actually offer both slices and whole pies. I ordered a pepperoni and hot pepper pie but as I sat there I had to get a slice of their upside down pie. While they were both outstanding, I have to say, what I cannot stop thinking about was that upside down slice. That was freaking magical. Easily foldable. Follow it up with just the right amount of quality ingredients are brought together in just the right proportions with quirky flair. Upside down pizza (cheese first, sauce on top) or stranger still, a double carb potato pizza. Speaking of, the potato pie is so good. All the ingredients from a potato mille feuille with a hit of fresh rosemary and grana padano atop the well made crust. Rich, creamy, nuff said. Equally good the mushroom with its "mushroom cream" (think a thin duxelles) base, rosemary to season and meaty creminis and motz to round it all out. Finally the sopressatta. I mean, come on, who doesn't love a cheese pie made even more complex with goat cheese, honey and grana padano? Sold by the slice or whole 18 inch pie. Inexpensive. Is it better than the NYC pie? No. But it's definitely not as boring either.

The food presentation was excellent and a few substitutions were allowed, which we appreciated very much. Pizzas are great, but maybe a little thin in the middle, weighed down by so many toppings. Service was very, very attentive... perhaps overly attentive, with 3 different people checking on us, breaking up the conversation and whisking plates away that weren't entirely finished. We had to ask the servers to stop refilling our wine glasses, gave us a feeling of being rushed. And I know this is a personal pet peeve of mine, but servers please, can we stop asking diners " are we still working on this? " This question really ticks me off and makes me feel like a horse at a trough. I'm not at work, I'm trying to enjoy the meal you prepared for me at my own pace. Lastly, one of us did not enjoy the calamari... wondered if it was frozen as it had a fishy, not-fresh taste. I will say the server appreciated the feedback and removed this from the bill.
