[[HIGHLIGHT]]I love Slice Pizza & Brew, and the Vestavia location is especially great. It has a covered wraparound deck and patio, which makes it perfect for outdoor dining.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The pizzas are excellent, with some creative combinations that are absolutely delicious. I haven't tried them all yet, but my favorite is the Little Piggy Pizza. It's loaded with meats--pepperoni, ham, Italian sausage, prosciutto, and bacon--then finished with roasted cherry tomatoes and fresh basil. So good. The salads are also amazing. My favorites are the Redmont Salad and the Spinach Salad. Everything tastes very fresh and is topped with the perfect house-made dressings. The lunch special is a great deal: a slice of pizza and one of their salads. Each day features a different signature pizza as an option for the slice. Today I had a pepperoni slice with the Redmont Salad--an absolute winning combination.

Came here for pizza after church and it definitely hit the spot. The Caesar salad was so good with the grilled onions on top. We got the old school and wing & a prayer pizza and I have to say the old school was my favorite. Something about the wing & a prayer was throwing me off. It tasted like it had BBQ sauce on it but it didn't. It was just ok. Service was good. Our waiter was through and consistently checked on us which is always a plus. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is a great hangout spot for the family or casual date night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Slice is an established Birmingham local spot. Centrally located in Vestavia's restaurant-desert, it's a family-friendly, sportsbar-ish, lunch and dinner spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The outdoor patio is splendid for nights with good weather. Cute lights and room for kids to run around.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Happy hour M-F until 6! $5 glasses of wine, and $2 domestic, bottled beers. Definitely worth it, we went around 5 on a Friday night and enjoyed some drinks and fries on the patio, finished off with a pizza. The Hot Mama was right up my alley. Hot honey, pepperoni. This pizza here is good, but quite oily. Eat it quick before the crust gets soggy! A great pizza option, though, and reasonably priced. Staff is always friendly and service is great. Our waitress made sure to swing by right before happy hour ended to get our drink order in. Much appreciated. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Casual, down-home, friendly. Easy dinner option Over The Mountain.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Had a chance to stop into Slice Pizza and Brew in Vestavia and had a good dinner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat outside and our server arrived within a couple of minutes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We tried some fire baked with msg as an appetizer and got some spicy mustard and hot honey bbq sauce on the side so we could try them. The fire baked wings are good by themselves but the sauces were good as well. I especially liked the hot honey bbq. We then ordered 2 pies. We created a BYO that was a buffalo chicken and then got The Lakeview. The buffalo chicken was good and the Lakeview had really good flavor with the short rib, caramelized onions, tomatoes and Asiago cheese. We did not get the horseradish sauce. The crust was cooked nicely. Our server was very attentive and took care of us. Overall, we had a good dinner. There are several items on the menu that we would like to try when we return.

So this past weekend I went to Festa Italiana it was basically the Italian version of Taco Fest. While I did enjoy myself I left with a underwhelming feeling. To start off I will say Italian American Heritage Society of Birmingham, Alabama did a great job with making sure people stayed cool. Besides the food trucks everything was either under tents or under the bridge at Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark. They had free water stations as well as water to purchase. They even had a huge air blower out there keeping people cool. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. Seeing people actually do grape stomping and sauce contest were pretty cool too! Now here is where the food comes in. I was not able to try all the places I wanted to try due to extremely long lines. The 3 places I did try I will talk about now. First up Da Big Italian I ended up getting Da Vinnie and Da Big Italian. Da Vinnie was pretty good the sausage had decent flavor but that was about it. Nothing too crazy. Da Big Italian was extremely underseasoned and it mostly tasted like pickled banana peppers. It apparently had mozzarella cheese in it and I didn't even notice it. Huge let down. Da Vinnie 7/10 Da Big Italian 5/10 Next we have Sliced this was genuinely really good pizza. All the flavors were there like all systems go. I had been wanting to try this place for a long time and just never got to it. Like I have no notes whatsoever so I'm just gonna give my score of an 8.5/10. I will be back for more. Lastly Arnone's Italian Sausage. This was the biggest disappointment because I was super excited to try them. I ordered the Italian Sausage of course. It came with grilled onions and nothing else. Yall when I say this was the most blandist thing I have ever eaten. The sausage had no flavor at all the grilled onions were also flavorless like they used no salt, pepper, Worcester sauce, no nothing. Easy 1/10 I was extremely disappointed. All in all I enjoyed the event and if there is another one I'll be back to try the places I wasn't able to get too. I do not blame the company that put this together for any of the bad food. These guys put on a great show and I can't wait to see more!

Second stop on my BRW line up was Slice! This was my very first time at this location. I arrived during lunch time on a Sunday. It was busy! You have to wait to be seated. Unfortunately, kind of waited a bit before anyone said anything. Eventually, the hostess came over but at this point I decided to just sit at the bar. The bartender, Taylor did a fine job. I was able to place my order from the BRW lunch menu and it even included a drink. My food came out fast. Two pizza slices and a salad (see pics). The pizza was good but definitely needed more sauce. I requested more sauce and the pizza came alive! I regret not ordering it well done, so that's on me. This is one of the better BRW offers which is mainly why I came here. This Slice location is really spacious. There's a nice covered patio. Overall, this visit was cool and I can see myself returning in the future.

After our favorite wood fire pizza place closed, we have been on the search for a new pizza restaurant. Slice came with high recommendations. We tired the Vestavia location for dinner tonight. They appeared very busy but we were greeted promptly and seated immediately. Server was prompt to our table and brought our drink orders very quickly. I ordered the perfect pepperoni and my wife got a house cheese pizza with olive oil and garlic sauce. Pepperoni came out first. At first glance it was very greasy but had some nice charred crust. The bottom crust was not crisp, had no crunch and was drowning in corn meal. I was hoping the taste would make up where the crust lacked luster. However the sauce was bland, as was the pepperoni; both lacked on the flavor spectrum. Cheese combo was nice, but very thin. My wife's house cheese pizza had the same crust issues. But her olive oil and garlic base had a very nice flavor. Her cheese combo was good as well. In comparison I can get a greasy pizza combo at Sam's club for $2.74 and that include a drink. And their pepperoni and sauce has a much better flavor. Their crust is even crispier. Had the price point not been so high, I would have rated 4 stars but I don't expect to pay $45 for two greasy, soggy pizzas and two drinks. But the Diet Coke was a hit! Disappointing to say the least, the search is still on for a new pizza place!

We walked up the street with a half dozen other diners. Wooden City is definitely not in the best part of BHM. Walking to the restaurant was a little sketchy, no need for a detailed description. Although we had reservations, the hostess looked at us like we had three eyes. She found a small table for us in the far back of the restaurant. No problem, at least we were seated. Our server greeted us quickly and went over the menu. We ordered drinks, blistered Hungarian peppers and a sausage and mushroom pizza. We told him that we were going to a concert and were on a little bit of a tight schedule. By the time our server checked on our food, the second time, we went from a little bit tight to full "gotta get out of here" mode. I guess the delay in getting our food was to give the kitchen time to burn our pizza. Over half of the thick, chewy crust was inedible. The bottom of the pie didn't fare much better. The peppers, on the other hand, were amazing. (not so much so at 2 am but that's just me!) They are a do not miss. We were at least able to settle our bill quickly and made it to the concert with time to spare. Overall, would we go back? Only if in the area - those peppers were amazing. Still, I definitely would not make a special trip.

Yet,…read morewe are humans, we cannot stop ourselves at the Neapolitan classic version, the iconic NYC slices nor the Chicago deep dish. Something within us, is tirelessly reinventing. Whether good or bad, someone else can decide. A real distinction of Pizza Grace is in its most fundamental element, and the aspect that one could argue to be the most important part of any pizza, period. Of course, that would be the crust. The crust here is created with wild yeast sourdough, called "Frank", resulting in a unique profile regardless of what later lands on top of the pizza. Let's pause here for just a second, is it not ridiculous having to wait 24-48 hours for the slow crust fermentation to happen? Apparently, the owners Chef Ryan Westover and his wife Helene didn't think so. Their signature pizza here is no less impressive either: topped with Louisiana crawfish, ricotta, Parmesan, mint and basil. It is a true star of the show. It's hard for most people to pinpoint exactly where they had the best pizza of their life, but this warehouse building in Alabama might just end up being that spot.

I was greeted by the front employee, who was wiping down the final tables before service started. I viewed the menu and saw they offered pizza in different sizes and toppings. They also served pasta, including lasagna, chicken alfredo and spaghetti. I learn that the front employee's name was Solomon. He proved excellent customer service to me, answering all of my questions. He even pulled up a special menu on the TV for me to see that changes every day of the week, serving pizza by the slice instead of a whole pie. I ordered the Spaghetti with mushroom meat sauce, which included garlic bread and a side salad. I also ordered 2 pepperoni pizza with a drink. My total was right at $22 dollars for everything. To me, this was a bargain to get so much food as well. The setting of the table featured red and white tablecloths, which made it feel like a real Italian pizzeria. There are about 30-35 tables, with bar stool seating areas for single guest to enjoy the Birmingham view. My food took about 12 minutes to come out, and Solomon bagged everything nice and neatly before I made it to the counter. I went back to the stool seating to enjoy my food. Once he realized I was dining in, he brought over a parmesan cheese shaker for me to use with my food. This was top tier for me! Very observative. The Meal: I can tell you now that the portion sizes are humorous! The pizza is large thin, hand tossed slices that filled the box of a small pizza. The pasta was enough to feed three people, so they give you a well amount for your money. The pizza had to be eaten folded, which I enjoyed a lot. The pizza sauce was full of flavor, didn't seem like anything out of a can. The slices were cheesy, saucy and not overly greasy with a perfect crust. Some of the pizza I've enjoyed in Birmingham. The spaghetti mushroom meat sauce pasta was very meaty and full of mushrooms. The mushrooms could have been sauteed more before adding to the sauce. As the pasta was full of meat, the sauce could have been more. to cover the bottom of the noddle as well. The garlic bread bursted with buttery, garlicy herb flavor and was super airy and fluffy, not like hard toast baked to plinko chips consistency. The salad was super fresh and simple. The cheese was thick, hand shredded mozzarella cheese with fresh romaine lettuce and a slice of tomato. The ranch dressing was not my favorite, but the house vinaigrette was 10/10! I could drink that dressing; it was so good. I was able to wash it all down with various Coca-Cola fountain drinks or fresh brewed tea (Sweet or Unsweet). Coke Zero was an option, which made me happy! Overall, this visit earned a solid 4.5/5 and I would patronize with them again. Customer service as 5/5, thanks to Solomon. The chefs were hard at work the entire time. By the time I left, 75% of the tables were taken and mostly everyone was eating already too. Check them out if you're in the area! -DASC
