Had a nice cafe au lait and breakfast burrito on a random Friday morning. My companion had the tiramisu iced latte and a bagel loaded with pimento cream cheese. Very nice overall, except that I aspirated the powdered cocoa topping when trying my companion's drink. Suggestion: Put the pimento cream cheese in the breakfast burrito! read more

This place is so cute! We were really impressed with how large their coffee and food menu was. The iced coffee were delicious but the food is amazing. We ordered a breakfast sandwich which was great but we would absolutely go back for the deviled eggs toast. So unique and delicious. read more

Sleeping Bird Coffee - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Wilmington, Delaware

I stopped by on a weekday morning and there was a decent flow of customers coming in and out for their morning fix. I ordered an iced mocha and a breakfast burrito to get my day started. The mocha was made very quickly and tasted good. I definitely notice what other reviewers mentioned... there is a very obvious "burnt" taste that the espresso has. It wasn't inedible by any means, just different and stronger than your typical coffee shop. The breakfast burrito was also strange to say the least. I didn't take any pictures of it, but the "scrambled egg" inside was literally just cubed (!!!) microwaved egg, honestly not even sure if it was real egg. The other ingredients were fine, but the egg was extremely off putting and not at all what I had expected. Some of their other food options looked good here but I wouldn't go out of my way to return. read more

Overall: super cute local cafe with fun syrups, coffee drinks, pastries, and light eats The service was kind. My coffee came out very quick, but my sandwich took over 10 minutes. I had a half calf lavender Americano. I liked that the lavender wasn't too sweet, but probably could have asked for more pumps because the lavender was very subtle. The breakfast sandwich was fine- nothing notable. The ambiance was super cute and inclusive. read more

Really nice space inside and the staff are so friendly. Their breakfast burrito is one of the best I've had and their cookie butter cake slice is so delicious! I unfortunately wasn't a huge fan of their coffee. I tried their Pisces seasonal drink in March which was a lemon based latte and it wasn't a hit for me. Later on I also tried their cookie butter latte and still didn't find it great. I do prefer my coffee on the sweeter side and didn't feel it was at my level. I would definitely come back for the food! read more

The space is well lit and beautifully decorated. Their food is delicious, I always get the turkey bacon egg and cheese bagel. However, I know most people come here for the coffee and I honestly would not recommend it. I have been here multiple times and the coffee always has a distinct burnt taste. The specialty latte flavors are unique but poorly executed. I have also watched them make the coffee and it is 95% milk. The service is okay, they have always been very kind about fixing the order when I tell them I do not like it. However, even after it has been fixed I am still left with that burnt taste in my mouth. Overall, I would recommend the food but would probably get coffee elsewhere. This cafe is mostly aesthetically appealing. read more

Sleeping bird is always a 5 star experience for me. Line is always long but moves so quickly! Staff is so efficient. Tried the specialty cream cheese- garlic pepper Parmesan and it was so good. As always- have to have a cinnamon roll. Cookie butter latte was also good! Shop was clean and well kept. read more

Made a stop in Delaware from Philly to Virginia specifically to try this place and we're so happy we did! They make their coffee syrups and pastries in-house! We tried the bread pudding, brown butter caramel latte, cookie butter flat white, the eagle and loaded breakfast burrito. Everything was delicious and we were so impressed!! The ambiance is a cute, local coffee shop and their service is friendly and fast. Recommend every single thing we tried, but highly recommend that brown butter caramel latte! My husband said it was the best coffee he's ever had! read more

A really great spot! Coffee was excellent. Service was friendly and attentive. The space is lovely too. Would definitely recommend!"

Great espresso here. They also have some little different food, items, sandwiches, breakfast burritos, avocado, toast, Chia pudding, bagels, bagel, sandwiches, etc. But they definitely have the best espresso around. My favorite drink is their espresso macchiato. Presentation average but they do use an almond milk here that is very good. I believe they said the name was pacific and it does not have that weird aftertaste. Although my favorite is elmhurst. read more

Decent coffee, but they only have one roast and one size available. Disappointingly limited gluten-free options. My table was dirty when I sat down. Please get some gluten free baked goods! It's 2025! read more

Cozy cafe with tables both inside and a small one outside as well. It was a Saturday and it was PACKED so we ended up eating outside even though it was a bit chilly but it was definitely busy for a reason! The staff members were extremely friendly and accommodating. They had vegan and gluten free options, the latte menu even listed v for vegan next to the syrups which I rarely see. They had an off street parking lot with plenty of spaces even when it was busy. My wrap and latte were both delicious and I highly recommend checking this place out! read more

This place is super cute. Small inside, maybe like 6/7 tables. They have some outside seating out back (I think). I think the breakfast sandwich was okay. The pastries they had looked very good! We really wished they would keep some of the donuts in this location. We couldn't try any of them at our visit! They opened a brand new location so this location carries 0 now :( read more

Solid breakfast spot ! Cozy cafe with indoor seating and picnic tables are nearby just in case on those nice days. First, the bagels are bomb! I ordered a bacon egg n cheese on a sea salt rosemary bagel. Loved the brightness of the rosemary, it definitely elevated the humble BEG. You can tell they use high quality ingredients for their food products. I also purchased a cinnamon bun and honestly... they are next to godliness. Worth a visit if you're in the city. read more

I first discovered this place on a weekend trip and thereafter, purposely drove routes through this area while traveling so I could stop by again. I don't even really like donuts all that much, but I've been to this place three times in the last month because the product is so inventive and fresh, I can't resist. The donuts are pricey but the quality and attention to detail is definitely makes them worth it. read more

as a philly resident who visit wilmington often, sleeping bird is 10x better than most places you can go in the city. great espresso, pastries (haven't tried the sandwiches but they look incredible), and extremely kind staff. i love their community resources they have in the cafe and it just feels so warm and cozy. very jealous that philadelphia does not have a sleeping bird read more

The customer service here is always excellent! The avocado toast is good but I prefer it without the truffle oil. Their pastries and such are solid. I usually drink tea and the only thing that could be improved is more tea selections, like a jasmine tea or traditional green tea. They have honey ginseng green tea which is pretty good but would really like some other options as well as this would not be a go to. read more

Stopped here about an hour before closing time for a coffee and something sweet. Coffee was good enough but service was very perfunctory. The pistachio olive oil cake was available along with several scones. We opted for the cake which was slightly sweet and fresh. There are obviously a lot a regulars here occupying the tables with their laptops in what was a pretty dark interior space. We opted to sit outside. Restroom was spacious and well maintained. read more

I found Sleeping Bird on my way a client meeting in the area. The high ceilings, cool music, and comfy chairs gave a great spot to prep for the meeting. I'm very simple in my coffee tastes, so it was an Americano for me, brewed perfectly. The list of featured brews was extensive and based on the traffic they must be damn good. I also enjoyed their avocado toast - which was savory. So many times places just drown the toast in balance and micro greens! I also noticed a host of bakery items on the counter that seemed to be going like hot cakes. All in all, a great find. read more

No other cafe compares to this one. All their latte syrups are homemade so no pumped syrup in this cafe. They also rotate a seasonal latte which is different and fun to try. I am from the area and love a good cafe and try all of them but this one is top notch. The coffee beans are local as well (from Philadelphia). They're bakery and menu items are delicious and made in house. The homemade bisquits are out of this world and reason enough to go. Thank you Sleeping Bird for staying consistent with your products, keep it up! read more

Do not SLEEP on this coffee shop! I really wanted to keep this as one of Wilmington's best kept secrets, but it's only right to share. Started off from a truck to now a cute, quaint, yet simplicity establishment. I love their unique flavors of latte's whether hot or on ice. They are also very active on social media platforms showcasing their daily displays rotation of fresh baked goods. If you are in luck, their donuts are amazingly delicious and tend to sell out rapidly. Accessible parking and can either enter through the front or rear. Beautiful and clean bathroom. Spacious interior and a few nooks to chill out. Excellent staff. Most importantly, support local! read more

Where do I begin. This is by far one of the best coffee shops I've been to in a while. Everything from the food, service, drinks was amazing. I honestly didn't even know such an amazing spot like this could exist in DE. I got the Cinnamon Toast Crunch latte and they make the syrups in house which is mind blowing because it's so good. We got the strawberry goat cheese scone which was so god and not too sweet and soft and moist. We also got that cinnamon roll and if you are in the area this is a must try. One of the best I've had. My husband and I have been coming here for about 5 months, each time hoping that the "vibe" would improve... But it never did. While their lattes and homemade desserts are good (and they have a clean bathroom), most of their employees are sullen, passive-aggressive young women who talk way too loud about their personal lives, bodily disorders, and mental problems. (It's embarrassing to overhear these things). They seem to have no filter, and treat the place as if it were their own personal club house. What's worse, on several occasions, we've even overheard them loudly gossiping about various customers after the customers left. They even gossip about their fellow co-workers when those co-workers aren't working that day. (Don't they know we can all easily hear them?! Either they're highly oblivious, or they just don't care.) Plus, they rudely sweep the floors between the customers' feet 1 hour before closing. This unprofessional behavior not only makes us uncomfortable, it hurts this small business. (For example, we will probably not return because of the bad, catty vibes. Sorry, guys, but we really tried.) This coffee shop would be A LOT better if they hired more friendly, mature people, and if they installed cozier, more varied seating and a cooking vent. - Drinks/Dessert: 3.5 stars - Food: 3 stars - Decor: 3 stars - Seating arrangment: 2 stars - Customer service: 2 stars - Vibe/Employee friendliness: 1 star read more
