I have been going here for awhile now…read more If you want to learn BJJ GI/NOGI/Street, a form of Boxing that emphasizes self preservation first, Yoga, Kettlebells, or just want to gain increased mobility used in other sports you need to give this gym a try. No need to pick and choose, you get it all for one reasonable price, they have morning and evening classes, and they also have kids and young adults programs. The instructors/owners are great people, will work with anyone, regardless of skill or fitness level. A lot of people I recommend this gym to are intimidated, especially about the boxing, but please don't be, they don't break people here, they train them. They start you out slow, and only add pressure as you get better, and you will get better! You only go as hard as you want to, and free form sparring is optional, and only after you get good enough to defend yourself. The BJJ is not oriented towards competition, though they will help you with that if it's your goal. They do GI, No-GI, and Street Jits/CMD/Etc on Saturdays. We have young guys and a lot of older guys as well. FYI The lineage is Machdo -- King -- Kolesar Even if your just into it for fitness you have to give it a try, you have never worked out until you have boxed, done a round of BJJ rolling, or hit the kettle bells. These are phenomenal cardio and muscular endurance work outs. Women and Men are pretty much in every class, it's a tribe and an extended family, everyone watches out for you, no meatheads, no crazies, give it a try. Finally don't wait to get fit, instead get fit while learning some valuable self preservation life skills!

Should have written this review much sooner. This place is incredible. Got both my daughter(8) and…read moreson(13) in to boxing and they absolutely love it. Best work out guaranteed! No such thing as too young for boxing. Best thing about the youngest group class is high demand for discipline. Eric(one of the trainers and owner) is great with young ones, but also strict. Besides boxing you have option to do jujitsu, self-defense and kettle bells. All of that included in your monthly membership fee. Technically you can attend every day if one wants to. I will be joining my kids soon. It's a great place for the whole family.

Me and my 9 year old daughter have been going here for a little over a year now and both love it…read more Solid training atmosphere and instructors, family friendly, and a great crew of students. The head instructor (Professor Mark) is a seasoned competitor and great instructor. The other black belts (Professor Brett & Professor Nick) really round out the teaching staff. There are plenty of day/evening options for adult classes to meet my schedule have a good balance between higher-level belts and white belts. The kids classes are amazing, my daughter has learned a ton, made some friends, and has a noted boost in her confidence/athleticism. I've been training martial arts on and off for over 30 years and decided to focus on BJJ a couple years ago. Since then I have been looking for a BJJ gym to call "home" & found it here. Seattle has a lot of good martial arts, but Grace Barra Edmonds is probably the most well-rounded BJJ gyms catering to everyone from those who want to compete, to those who are looking for activity/fitness/self-defense, all while being family friendly with their huge kids program. Highly recommend!

I attended Gracie Barra Edmonds Soft Opening on February 22. They had a great warm up session lead…read moreby the head instructor/Professor Mark, an open mat, and a Lion Dance to bring good luck and fortune to the facility. As soon as you enter through the business door you'll find yourself in a building with multiple suites. Just a few steps down will be Gracie Barra (not to be confused with Barre next door). You're welcomed by everyone there. Most importantly, the program director, Coach Jason. He's there to help with getting everything started. From memberships to making sure you're well informed of classes, as well as lessons. Coach Brett is an amazing instructor, he'll describe every bit of detail about the move so that you'll leave every class literally mind-blown! Professor Mark is the lead instructor and is there every day the school has a class. From being four years old to an older guy/gal ready to retire (or ready for their mid-life crisis ), professor Mark will guide you each step of the way. You may come into class feeling scared, intimidated, and maybe you'll even regret signing up. But at the end of the class, I guarantee you, you'll be feeling accomplished, eager for the next class, along with brand new people who you'll eventually call family.
