Lobby and Event room of the Harvey House Slaton
    Jimmy D.

They Harvey House Slaton is a museum where you can comfortably spend the night. It's a nonprofit museum but also a bed and breakfast where you can stay in the same room that once housed the Harvey Girls. It's also an event venue. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, and this should be particularly interesting to anyone interested in Railroads. It's like stepping back in time to spend the night, complete with period furniture. But don't worry, the mattresses are modern so you will get a good night's sleep.

Anywho, I'm driving truck, and this was the furthest I could get thanks to the federal government having their nose in our business and not letting us do our jobs. So a few hours away, I called because not only was I starving after only eating two slim jims the entire day, I wanted somewhere to park for the night and wanted to ask permission. During the initial phone call, the lady was super super nice and told me of course I can park here all night! And I'm pretty sure regardless of whether I was a patron but, why not pay it forward?? Cozy little diner, typical of what you would see in the middle of a country town. All the ladies in here were super super nice, place was clean, and pretty good diversity in the menu in my opinion considering the location. I looked at the menu, and ordered my supper. I had the pepper steak with jalapenos and gravy, that came with fries and Texas toast... Looks like I'll be eating carbs today!! I also ordered deep-fried mushrooms, and my meal came with a little dinner salad. For being a little tiny diner in a location like this, they really get down. The food was so so good, the service was excellent! I asked the lady what time they open for breakfast, and they open at 6:00 a.m. but she told me I could come in a little bit earlier if I wanted to get coffee in order before the breakfast rush came.. she even let me look at the breakfast menu, so now, I already know what I want!! Typical small town, everybody knows everybody, and me being from a small town, jived together perfectly. I'm so glad I came across this place, and I really hope that I come down this highway again in the future, which I probably will, because I'll definitely stop here every time I pass through! Thank you guys so much for everything, and thank you for a good down home cooked supper!!

Blue Sky Texas was a decent burger place…read more There are two locations as of April 25, 2026 in Lubbock, TX. This one is on the north side of town close to Texas Tech University. The parking lot was packed. I had to park kind of near the smelly dumpster and an unsightly view of a trashy lake or pond. So when my daughters and I walked in, we were not greeted. We snaked around the long horizontal pole meant to form a line. The chick at the register did not to be in that position. She was not nice. Did not listen. Was not courteous. It took about 25 minutes for our food to be ready. Your receipt will show the same number that should pop up on the number readers either above the meal counter or in the dining room near a TV. Here's what we ordered: Green chile cheeseburger ($11.49) Cheeseburger mayo only ($10.99) Bacon cheeseburger with ketchup added ($12.99) Large fries ($4.99) Small fried jalapenos ($5.79) 2 regular fountain drinks (2 @ $2.89) The patties were fairly thick. My daughter received several pieces of bacon on her burger. She was happy about that. The green chile was definitely on the very mild side. I loved it, but the juices saturated my burger when I dumped the cup on there. Soggy burgers are not fun. My bad. I didn't count that against them. The fries were really good. The jalapenos had a kick! The Coca Cola was super flat. My daughter let me try it when I was shocked by her admission about it. Lol. The dining rooms can get a bit loud. I could not hear my kids half of the time. Felt like an old timer. But it could have been that we sat between the food counter where you pick up your food tray and the soda fountains. Congested! It was the only table available at the time! Still, the entire staff seemed a bit moody. I did not appreciate that. The restrooms were decently cleaned. Overall, though, I don't think I'll be back.

Original wooden floors as they creak as you walk across the floor. Most rooms have carpet in bedrooms and tile in bathrooms so no creaking in most rooms. The kind lady at desk let me know all the rooms are open and each room key on side table .... I could go look to see how decor of each rooms' motif. Bacon was delicious along with whole wheat bread toasted and scrambled eggs. Coffee or tea available along with juice, yogurt, fruit if the day or cereal. Room Prices are really very reasonable. Hospitality is kind and helpful. Questions just are folks are very willing to share their thoughts or information on their town of Post. Cheers! Wonderful and memorable stay at Garza Hotel B&B.

The bedroom was cozy with B+ for cleanliness. The chandler in the bathroom is a fun touch! We enjoyed hanging out in the library and outside area. The breakfast was eggs, bacon and toast.
