Everything came out hot, fresh, and well above typical fast-food quality. The Mac Bites were amazing, but the Winnebago sauce was definitely the star of the meal. I tried the Bacon Jam Burger with some regular fries…read more The burger was very good; the bacon jam gives a nice smoky flavor and the spicy pickles added a nice touch. Very much like a traditional smashburger; a little greasy, but mine was not overly greasy. Burgers are served wrapped in wax paper and that coupled with the decor gives a very old-school diner vibe. The fries were cooked perfectly. Golden & crispy on the outside, soft and steamy on the inside. I ordered the regular fries (not the seasoned fries), but they were still a tad bit on the salty side. The staff was young, but they knew what they were doing. The grill man served up a tasty burger and the young lady working the register & delivering food provided service with a smile and answered all my questions as a first time customer. My only knock on this spot is that the lobby/dining room area needs a thorough deep cleaning. The table tops were sticky, the seats had a lot of crumbs and food on them, and the floor could use a mopping. Ketchup & mustard bottles were sticky as well. On the plus side, the kitchen area looked clean and tidy (you can see right into it from where you sit). But the tables and chairs definitely need some TLC.

I asked for medium and they said pink is no problem. Burger was served well done. Bottom bun was toasted. Top bun saw the grill, but the only toasting was a ring around the very edge. I asked for light mayo and it was served with light mayo. The cheese was fully melted - yay! Shredded lettuce - I prefer iceberg lettuce leaves. The cheesesteak was another win. The staff is knowledgeable and attentive. Will I return? They are a long way from home, so it is unlikely that they will join my lunch rotation.

Other of my favorites include Shamrock and Portillos burgers. I keep thinking I'm going to try the Zipsauce steak and cheese but so far have suffered from the anxiety of trying something new when I know there's something I already know is delicious on the menu. I will say I think they're missing out on adding a Chopped Cheese to the menu. They've got all the ingredients in store, hamburger patties, hoagie rolls, lettuce, tomato, onions, mayo. Fry up a couple seasoned patties with onions and splash on some Zip sauce to make it Detroits own, melt some cheese, and slap it all on a fully dressed roll. I've never had a Chopped Cheese but Cardi B seems to think they're the bees knees.

It didn't take long before I was chatting with some of the regulars and getting to know the place. I also had the chance to meet the owner, Simon, who was incredibly friendly and genuinely seemed happy to see a new customer come through the door. The footlong coney dog was easily one of the highlights for me. They put their own unique spin on it by shaving both sides of the bun and then grilling it, which gives it a great texture and flavor that really sets it apart from just about any other coney dog I've had. Their homemade onion rings are also fantastic...sweet, crispy, and absolutely delicious. I came back another time for breakfast and that was top-notch as well. Of course, being the coney fan that I am, I couldn't leave without ordering at least one more coney dog before I left. Yum! Great food, friendly people, and a welcoming atmosphere. I'll definitely be back soon!

After lunch, it's easy to spend some time walking around, grabbing ice cream, checking out the nearby thrift shop, or just relaxing on one of the shaded benches under the trees and enjoying the small-town atmosphere. The restaurant itself has a cool bar vibe with dark wood, automotive-themed décor, and plenty of Detroit-inspired burger names. Even on a Friday afternoon, the place was busy with people enjoying drinks, so I can definitely see it being a popular hangout. The service was excellent. Our waitress was attentive, checked on us often, and kept our pop refills coming without us ever having to ask. Our food arrived quickly, hot, and fresh. The burgers were large, juicy, and had some creative topping combinations. I ordered one topped with a fried egg, expecting the yolk to add richness like it usually does on a burger, but the egg was completely cooked through with no runny yolk at all, so it didn't really add much. Overall, I found the burgers to be underseasoned. They looked great, but the flavor was a little flat and could have used more seasoning. The waffle fries were crispy and probably my favorite part of the meal. I also ordered a side of cheese sauce to dip them in, but it was so thick and gelatinous that I couldn't even get a fry into it, which was disappointing. We also ordered the corned beef egg rolls, which were very greasy. The outside was crispy, but the wrapper was thick and a bit doughy inside. The house-made ranch, however, was excellent and paired well with the fries. For three burgers, one appetizer, three pops, and about a $100 bill, I expected the food to wow me a little more. It wasn't bad by any means, I just wasn't as impressed as I expected based on all the rave reviews. If the food had a little more seasoning and the egg rolls, cheese sauce, and overall execution were improved, I'd enjoy it much more. I'd still give it another try, especially for the atmosphere, location, and outstanding service.
