While my husband stayed firmly planted on solid ground (he and heights have a mutual agreement to never speak), I took our three kids up for a spin on the SkyWheel--and by "spin," I mean a slow, scenic, 187-foot climb into the sky that somehow didn't trigger my fear of parenting three kids in a confined space. The kids were obsessed with the fact that it's the height of 15 great white sharks stacked end to end. (Shoutout to the trivia signs in the line for that little gem--both educational and slightly terrifying!) They were also thrilled we got to go around five full times, which gave them plenty of time to argue over who could see farther and point out imaginary sharks in the ocean below. Meanwhile, I got to enjoy the views--the beach, the boardwalk, and most importantly, three kids sitting still, contained, and not actively picking on each other. A miracle. I even got a good photo where everyone's smiling and no one's mid-slap or eye roll. Worth every penny for that alone. It's not the cheapest attraction in town, but between the ocean views, the smooth ride, and the rare moment of peace, I'd say it earns its price tag. TL;DR: Stunning views, smooth ride, and just enough shark trivia to keep the kids distracted from sibling rivalry. Located right in the heart of the touristy Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, the SkyWheel is one of those things you just kinda need to scratch off your tourist checklist when visiting this part of Myrtle Beach. Is it going to change your life? No. Is it the coolest thing you can do in Myrtle Beach? Also, no. BUT does it have some of the strongest AC and best views of the coastline and boardwalk? 100% yes. Tickets are bit pricey for a ride but we had free ride coupons courtesy of the resort we were staying at which is why after years of coming to MB my whole life I finally tried this attraction. If you don't have one of these make sure to check the coupon books for a coupon for a few dollars off. After waiting in a short line, we were escorted to our entirely clear paned gondola where the AC was on full blast...important in the summer heat on the grand strand. We went around for several minutes enjoying the views of the Atlantic and surrounding area. I likely won't do this again but the views are great and I can now say it's marked off the MB bucket list! read more

I love love love this.. granted it was my first time on it and it wasn't summer busy but staff was nice and fun.. I felt like I got plenty of time on ride even tho I did tell her to keep going lol.. it's individually climate controlled so not stuffy at all.. pretty comfy for what it is.. it's not terrible price and I went by myself because I can not get anyone to go with..it did freak me out a little at top when it stopped.. the car swayed just a little bit not bad but I really did have great time! Is it pretty pricey for per person? Yes. However you get at least five rides around which is fun and my boys loved the guy that was working there that was"chasing" them with the broom and singing when he opened up our door, they thought he was awesome. My son has been dying to try the Skywheel. We were staying nearby and decided to check it out. It is expensive and cost us $60 for two adults and one child in December. We had our own car which was clean and quiet. The views were beautiful, and we love seeing the ocean from the top of the wheel. The employees were funny and messing with my husband who was nervous about the wheel. I think it was fun to try, but we may wait a while to do it again because of the price. read more

While there's not too much to say about a Ferris wheel, it's pretty straight forward, it's a big wheel and you go around and around and gasp on the glorious city views that surround you,,, this one had some key differences and takeaways. 1: the wheel felt secure. It wasn't shaking and rocking as much as your typical wheel would, which made it far less scary. 2: it was covered completely and air conditioned inside! Yes that's right, you can enjoy this wheel when it's raining and when it's blazing hot as well! 3: it was very clean. You didn't sit on buble gum and candy wrappers. For a short 15 minute ride it is so relaxing because you get a front seat and unique view of the Atlantic Ocean. The staff is very nice and it's fun every time I went around they gave me a wave! Visited the Skywheel on Father's Day, after dinner. Unfortunately, because I use a power wheelchair, we couldn't all fit into the same gondola. However, I was pleased that it was accessible at all. Our nephew rode with my boyfriend and I, and he's quite the hambone. There is a video, but I won't post it because it's mostly the three of us freaking out and the language used is not family appropriate. We had the best time. It was terrifying and exciting, a gorgeous view and the threat of death all at once. I mean, clearly there wasn't any threat of death, but every time the gondola swayed we certainly acted like it. For a vacation thing to do, assuming you like Ferris wheels, this was great. It was a fall Sunday evening and getting cooler. But each carriage on the wheel is enclosed, so heat was on. Great views of the beach and ocean as well as the city lights. Friendly staff who made sure you knew the safety protocols, and several turns around the wheel (I think 15-20 min total). We walked from our hotel because I didn't want to pay to park, though there was lots of parking available, just on the pricey side and I'd rather save my money for the ride. read more

We went during the off season and got right on the ride. Cost, at the time of this review, was $16 per adult. They try and up sale you on the VIP package, which is a gondola with a full view including the bottom. You also go around a few more times and don't have to wait in the long lines. At $50 per adult, I was like "F that". So for $16, you go around 3 times. Takes ~ 15 minutes. You get a nice view of the ocean, beach and the city. I was worth doing it once. read more

If you're afraid of heights stay on the ground. If not, grab a ticket and take the ride. It was a beautiful day in Myrtle Beach. The sky was clear and perfect weather to explore the city. We had a coupon for $2 off and decided to go ahead and go. They limit the amount of people to get on and off at one time so we had about a 20 minute wait. Once we boarded it was a smooth ride. There were several stops to loading and debarking passengers. Then we were able to take on the breathtaking views of the beach and the strip. We have panoramic views and took several pictures and videos. We went around a total of 5 times and the staff waved each and ever time you go by. It was actually funny after about the third time. Tip: Bring your own wipes and sanitizer because they do not clean between passengers. read more

The sky wheel is an awesome way to see the beach and grand strand. It didn't open until 11am which was slightly disappointing as everything else around it opens much earlier. While walking along the beach at night, I spotted the SkyWheel and couldn't resist checking it out--it looked so beautiful all lit up! The ride itself offered some amazing views, but what really made the experience special was the staff. Emir was fantastic--he helped us with our pictures and was kind enough to offer a retake when they didn't turn out well the first time. That kind of attention to detail really made a difference! Another staff member, Francesca (I hope I'm spelling that right!), was incredibly sweet and helped us sort out the photo package. Yes..I'll be the first to admit that I got in the gondola and came right back off! I was extremely anxious but my husband ended up going on the ride. After it was done, we went to the ticket location and asked if it was possible to get a refund for my ticket. Cheryl was so helpful and after some issues with Apple Pay, Brock, the manager, refunded my ticket. They even came to Landshark where we were eating and found us to let us know everything was settled. This was a great location to visit while in Myrtle Beach. We saw a lot of the beach and the whole coastline with little in the way. Visiting during the winter cut down on lines and was a great experience for my wife and kids. The staff were friendly and professional. I'm not big on Ferris wheels and to be honest I was ready to get out by the time they let us out but we did get our moneys worth I guess.. it went around 2-3 times and that after that they slowly start letting people out but by the time it was our turn or we thought it was our turn it kept passing us then went backwards and stopped.. then went forward again and stopped.. it went like this 3 or 4 times before we finally got out... it is very cold in there bc of the AC and I would recommend sunset for this ride bc of the nice view!
