The cleaning staff need to focus on the dust on the blinds and on furniture. Also, the floors were sticky when we arrived, so I swiffered the floor. Not a big deal, but it would do wonders. One last thing... there are 2 pools. One is a bit larger and a tad cooler. The other is the warmer pool. What I noticed is the water color etc. The smaller pool water was not a crisp, clean, see through type water....????? Like pool water should be..... Anyways, we will stay again, no doubt. Oh and get a liquor license for booze at the lounge.

So, this is a review of the Day Use Area as well as the Pine Knob Loop Trail, which runs through…read morethe State Park. We had a great time with both. There's a decently sized parking area by the Pine Knob Loop trail, and it fills up quickly, even on a pretty chilly autumn day. It was probably one of the last times to get nice fall foliage in 2018. Altogether, this is a great place to go for a strenuous hike. It goes up abut 800ft to the Appalachian Trail, and then back down, all in about 4 miles. So, it's a pretty strenuous trail, but the views are totally worth it. After our hike, we went to one of the many picnic areas that are along the Housatonic River. There are a lot of pleasant meadow areas, picnic tables, and grills. The bathrooms are locked up for the season, which is a thing to be aware of if you're here during the off season. Altogether this is a nice place to see some sights and have a nice picnic. I'd definitely come here again.

I've been a seven year seasonal camper at Branch brook. A new owner took over a couple years ago…read morewith new management. Over the past two years it has slowly gone down hill. The biggest problem is the workers from out of state that take up living there because it's the cheapest way to live while they are up here working. Now that's ok, if, and that's a really big "if", the owner and the management enforced the rules. Unfortunately they do not. Parked on the sites they live at, is their travel trailer or fifth wheel, Very long construction trailer, make shift tents, their cars and their diesel trucks. You will be woken up anywhere from 4 am to 6 am when they start up those diesel trucks. There are some management that live on-site and do nothing to stop any of this for the family's that actually are regular campers. two years ago this place was packed with LONG TIME seasonal campers. All have left but maybe 4 or 5 . Not for anything, how about a little common courtesy. I have asked the owner to please have them park where us real campers won't be disturbed at this hour of the morning. He kept saying he will have them park in a designated area so this doesn't continue, but that never happened. For the most part, they are nice people, I don't directly blame them. This is something the owner and management should address. The owner himself told me he has bigger fish try fry. Well those words speak loud and clear. So the bottom line is, If you are from out of state and come to Branch brook to live while you are working in this area, by all means, this is the place to go. If you are looking to camp with your family for a weekend, a week, a month or longer.....I give you heads up....stay away. it is nothing more than a glorified storage facility. Very pricey for what you actually get. Instead of hearing children laughing and families around the campfire making memories and eating smores, All you hear are diesel trucks driving around campground, car's being worked on, garbage all over the place and dog poop EVERYWHERE. I do have pictures to back up my statement in case you might be thinking I have nothing better to do but complain , but when you've made a life at this place for 7 years and now it's turned into this, it's actually very sad.

Canton Parks & Recreation does a phenomenal job with keeping the residents occupied. There are many…read moreprograms, events, and activities for people of all ages. The parks are nicely maintained. There is a splash pad that is currently being constructed in Mills Pond Park. They have pools and a playground in that small park. There is a fee to enroll in the activities and programs; check their website for details. Every summer they have a free summer concert series. The department is located in the Community Center, which also houses the library and senior center. The building is pretty big and hosts many events and meetings. The parking lot is a decent size.

The home is broken into two sides that are both available as guest houses. The home also offers a large porch and firepit for siting in the evening. Overall if your passing through the area or hiking the Appalachian Trail this is a great place to stop for a night or more. And as an added bonus you also get a free breakfast and beverage certificate for the general store across the street. Totally worth it!

I grew up in…read moreConnecticut and moved to NYC, but I go back to the Northwest corner of the Litchfield Hills a few times a year to visit family. This time, I decided to treat myself and rent a car and stay with Mary. What a stellar experience! The house itself is breathtaking, built in 1798 and still retains a great deal of the original structure, including farmhouse ceiling beams, molding, and staircases. The bathroom has a ceramic claw foot tub! On the first floor there is an informal sitting room, a larger living room with a fireplace, and an open layout kitchen nook and dining room with a full dining room table set for breakfast every morning. Mary is up early and offers you coffee, eggs, toast, bacon, fruit, orange juice, whatever you can ask for, she is happy to prepare. During my stay I had delicious blueberry muffins! The house is large, airy and just plain cozy with lots of pillows, furniture, and blankets, but the grounds and gardens were just as delightful and picturesque. There is a large L shaped barn with two additional apartments and a game room, outdoor furniture, a hammock, and plenty of manicured lawn just for taking a stroll. I stayed in the Yellow Room and it was HUGE. I was able to unpack comfortably, spread out in the large bed, plug in my electronics, open some of the several windows, and enjoy the crisp fresh air and invigorating cross-breeze. All this, and more, as a mega added bonus, this bed and breakfast is DOG FRIENDLY, and, Mary does not charge an additional daily fee per pet. She also does not have any breed or weight restrictions. True easygoing country hospitality. My 60 pound mixed-breed rescue pup loved running around in the grass and exploring all the ferns, trees, and wild brush. In terms of payment, Mary accepts credit card, cash, or check, and her rates are incredibly affordable, especially for the area. She is also responsive and super helpful over email and will answer any questions you have prior to booking a room with her. Mary also grew up in the area before moving away and then moving back. She has amazing stories about the town of Goshen and all the farm land. It was one of the most relaxing weekends I've had in a while, and I can't wait to go back.

The Tapping Reeve House is the site of the first law school in America. Having gone to law school,…read moreand being kind of a nerd, I had to visit when I was in the area. There are only a few rooms with exhibits on the first floor of the house and no real tour, but the exhibits are informative, and the house itself is very nice inside. Tapping Reeve's first student was Aaron Burr, and as the school grew, he built a small classroom next to his house, which you can peek into. We skipped the 15-minute informative video, but the friendly staff member there gave us a brief synopsis of the history of the school, and I think that was enough. Admission is now free.
