This park is located on the Mesa/Tempe border adjacent to a canal that is used for runners and bicyclists. It could really use a facelift, but it serves the area well for what it is. Once in a while there are some questionable people laying in the grass on the outskirts of the park, but it seems like the local police department does a good job of keeping this park safe for families. I appreciate it when I see police patrolling this area, helps keep me feeling safe. We have been able to utilize this park for a couple of BBQ's and get-togethers without any complaints from the homes nearby, so it is a decent location for that too. There is a sign near the street that says the city was going to hold a community meeting regarding an upgrade to the park, but that was held in 2017 and I haven't seen much since...

Adj: Fancy and Fun at Fountain Park…read more So while on a trip to AZ, we came to this park kind of on a whim because we were staying in Fountain Hills. It was close to the hotel we stayed at and I read some great things about this park and my kids loved playgrounds, so off we go. It's been redone so it did not always look so fancy schmancy, but let me tell you this town and neighborhood is quite well to do so I think the funding is not lacking. The park is right next to the man-made lake which is made famous because of the fountain that goes off multiple times every day! But back to the park, the playground really is fun. There's things to climb, slide down, run onto, jump up and down on, and even a zip-line like thing that was kind of scary for me (yes, I'm a scaredy cat). My kids had a great time on that thing and my son in particular went crazy on it going back and forth multiple times. Overall, this is a great park, the playground alone is worth a visit, but then there's covered seating area not far from the playground, and right next to that there's a musical section where you can hit on different metallic objects to make music! My kids really had fun w/those things. There are benches for parents to chill after exertions on the play structure. The view of the lake is nice from anywhere at the park too. Lovely and enjoyable. We would love to visit again.

2.14.26 - Concours In The Hills Car Show…read more I attended this annual event for the first time this year. Car show started at 11am and ended at 3pm. I wanted to be there right at 10am because I know events like these can get pretty busy, and I was right. We didn't get there til about 11ish. My friends lagged plus there was a bit of traffic right at the exit. The plaza closest to the park was completely packed full. People were making their own parking spots in there. You just have to park at the first spot you can find and walk to the park. There are many cars of all makes and models to see. I like that they categorized them and put all the same types together. Cars filled the grass all around the entire park. There are plenty of drink/food stands and food trucks as well if you get thirsty or hungry out there. We walked the entire park but I think we may have missed a few things. I saw in another review that there is a spot with musical instruments somewhere at the park! I didn't see that but would have loved it. The day started off nice but it got warm pretty quick that day. Free water bottles were available at the Phoenix Children's booths. The event was cool to see and different. It seems pretty organized. I personally don't like walking on grass though, especially where dogs are allowed. Definitely come early though for parking and to enjoy the event before it gets hot later in the day.

What are love to see are big multi-lingual kids signs / educational number & word boards in braille, Spanish ,& English , engaging the community . This park has a renovated play area that is certain to entertain your little ones. Two infant/toddler swings and two regular swings greet you as you walk up the path to the play area. Just behind the swings, there are two covered play structures within the sandy area. One is geared toward younger children and has a few small slides. The other, larger play structure is nothing short of fantastic. There is a large slide, monkey bars, a fireman's pole, stairs and ladders like most playgrounds I remember growing up.....but the fun doesn't stop there. There are also two small, faux rock walls and bunch of stations that are real lessons in centrifugal force. You can stand up, sit down, hang from bars, all while spinning like a teacup at Disnyland! Aside from the play area. Venturoso Park has an enormous grassy area surrounded by a walking path. The perfect place for an afternoon picnic or a family stroll with the dog. There are a few covered picnic tables, a water fountain and soccer goals (minus the nets). One big negative is, the only public restroom available is a port-a-potty...yuck! There is occasional football or soccer practice here, but otherwise, this place is empty. We usually have the entire park to ourselves. Not for long though, because after you read this, you are gonna pack up a basket, round up your crew and head to Venturoso for some great family fun.

I passed two dead catfish, belly-up near the shore in two different places as I walked the length of the lake. Water pipes and covers are broken throughout the park, art pieces are corroding, and just about every surface of this park is covered in graffiti. A shame, because this park was once very nice. I do enjoy coming here during the spring and fall months because it's a solid distance to walk, the sidewalks are wide, and there are a lot of community picnic areas. This park is so big, it stretches across both sides of Mill Avenue off Baseline Road. There's a place to rent paddle boats and bikes, and there are fishing areas spaced strategically around the lake. Something I also like is how easy it is to find shaded areas. This is a very family friendly park with space for children to play. It's also a great place to bring your dog and have your daily walk. There is a recreation center on the SE side of Mill Avenue that houses tennis courts (and I believe there's a pool). Also within this area is a large playground. I also love the ducks, and I'm sad they're swimming in polluted water. City of Tempe: be better. Take care of your parks, especially since tax dollars go toward the upkeep.

There is hiking and biking trails, camping, RV camp sites, pick-nick areas, restrooms, cabins to rent and plenty of parking. I love the Lost Dutchman and have been here several times and it never gets old and each time I come, I am still so awestruck by the beauty of this mountain. Years ago, I completed Flatiron with my then partner and didnt know that it was rated a very difficult hike. I enjoyed it, got a really nice work out and liked the scramble up to the top! I just remember it was quite windy at the top but spectacular views. Dogs are allowed on Flatiron, but don't do that to your pup, its a pretty gnarly hike, let your puppy rest honestly as I saw so many doggies struggling. Tonight, I came just for a leisurely stroll right before sunset and also hoping to catch the first almost full moon of 2026. I love nature and being outdoors and my favorite way to spend time. Park entrance was packed tonight and the fee was $10. There is a small visitor center with souvenirs, guides, some snacks, bathrooms and last minute hiking needs. I think you can also camp here, check on their website. I parked in the Cholla day use lot and did part of the Treasure Loop and hiked for about 3 miles slowly, and spent about 2+ hours in the park. My goal tonight wasn't really to hike strenously but more to get a glimpse of the sunset and the beautiful 2026 Wolf Moon. All my goals were accomplished. Park is well maintained. I used the bathroom and it was very clean and a nice park bathroom. Plenty of covered picnic tables too. Park closed at 8pm tonight (winter). There are all different level trails here and the rangers here are super nice and helpful. Ask them any questions and they are happy to help. There are also many kinds of free maps available in the visitor center. I had a MTB map, a hiking trail map, a birding map, a native plant map! I am all mapped up! If you come and do a hike, wear sturdy hiking shoes, wear sunscreen, head covering, bug spray (there were quite a lot of mosquitoes when I hiked tonight which annoyed the heck out of me as I left my bug spray at home), lots of water, some snacks, and also headlamps (I hiked back down after sunset and the headlamp helped a lot). One of the best AZ state parks, the views are amazing (so many couples here getting their photos professionally taken), definitely check it out.

The North and South fields are what they are known as. We spent most of our time in the South field. The grass seemed very high to me towards the end of the season, and I wondered why it wasn't being maintained. There seems to be a lot of garbage in the vicinity, maybe picking up between games might be useful. They do have a concession stand but are limited in supplies. They sold hamburgers on the grill on Saturdays but that isn't available during the week days during the days, just hot dogs.
