100% RECOMMEND I've been sitting on writing a review on Dr. Chen and Skyline dental since forever but I'm finally taking the time! I became a new patient a little over a year ago and I was lucky to find Skyline Dental was in network with my Healthnet PPO dental insurance. I was beginning to tire of my old family dentist (he's literally old and had outdated everything) whom I went to because my parents had been going to him for YEARS but he neglected my teeth and would rather partake in pointless conversation with dental tools in hand! (His name is Dr. Eugene Sekiguchi in Monterey Park if you're wondering) The check-in staff is extremely friendly and patient-something that is a rarity as I've seen many other places with horrible reviews only because the front clerks were jerks. Here, it is nothing like that! Wendy (I believe her name is) gave me a clear price breakdown for everything EVEN IF I CHOSE NOT TO ACCEPT SERVICES. She also gave me a chance to choose which services I'd like to be done and ONLY charged me for those services I approved to be performed (kind of like when you take your car in for service). The dental assistants are also very friendly, efficient, personable, and knowledgeable. On my first visit, they gave me a full check-up and consultation on the health status of my teeth-something my previous dentist kept me COMPLETELY IN THE DARK ABOUT. That was how I found out I had 5 cavities (which explains my minor tooth aches) as well as SEVERE tooth damage due to grinding my teeth at night (because stress). I was under the impression my teeth were 100% healthy due to previous dentist. When Dr. Chen took clear pictures of my teeth for records he took the time to show me that they were really worn down and that I needed to take preventative measures before it gets worse. He also took the time to show me clear x-rays of my cavities, explaining to me exactly what we were looking at. He also talked to me about getting braces should I choose to get them in the future. I have pretty naturally straight teeth IMO and he never made me feel ashamed of my choice not to get braces. These are things I would've never known had I kept going to my old dentist. Harvey, you seriously saved my teeth! On my second visit, I got the first 2 cavities on my bottom jaw taken care of. Mind you, this would be my first time ever getting real nitty gritty work done. I was a little late to this appointment but I called in advance and they still took me! Dr. Chen gave me a little extra to numb the area since it was my first time which was super cool of him. I was drooling like a baby after but my first time experience was a breeze! On my third visit, I got the remaining 3 cavities removed and filled on the top jaw and I literally wanted to fall asleep in the chair. I was very comfortable with their work and felt relaxed and not so anxious as the first time (also had to factor in that I work at 7am and my appointment was after work at 3:30pm). Literally left feeling like a new human after! Unfortunately, I am moving soon and had a change in dental insurance since I got married so I may no longer be coming to Skyline dental (due to the distance it will be from new home) but I would definitely 100% recommend them if they are in network with your insurance! read more

Highly recommend. This dentist is actually a referral from a fellow dentist who specializes in children. She says it's better if my pre-teen child with permanent teeth come here to get examined and treated in case a root canal is needed, because they have better equipment and uses digital X-Ray that has better image quality (and lower radiation exposure) so better immediate treatment is available upon operation. The skills and professionalism of the dentist is admirable and he's also very good at articulating and explaining to his patients. The entire staff is also commendable to make you feel like you're "not just a number". Efficient, professional, thorough, competent, courteous, trustworthy, honest, no nonsense. I've been to many, many dentists and had a hard time sticking to one for various reasons, but I think this one is a keeper. They treat patients from babies to the current eldest at 105 year old! Appointments are scheduled pretty fast and I didn't have to wait for weeks. read more

I've been going to Skyline Dental since 2009. Dr.Chen has done all my dental work. I've gotten root canals, tooth implant, crowns & extractions. Dr. Chen has always made me feel comfortable and at ease. He would ask me during any procedure if I'm ok and to let him know if I feel any discomfort. I'm so beyond satisfied with all the dental work he has done and the time he takes to explain and show me what's going on with my teeth. And i can't forget about all the staff at Skyline Dental. Dr. Chen has been my dentist to go to since 2016; I was traumatized when I was a little kid, so I had been neglected my dental health until one day I had a really bad toothache that I had to find a dentist to help me take care of the problem. My best friend referred me to see Dr. Chen. He was very patient and friendly to listen to my symptoms and he would spend time to explain to me what caused the toothache and what would be the treatment options to solve the issue. I was so relived afterwards and I ended up having a root canal treatment and a crown to save the tooth. Since then, I have been going for my routine check up and teeth cleaning and been taking care of the tooth that needs treatment. With the departure from law school, bar struggles and horrible market for attorneys - dental coverage is something I didn't rank too high up on my list. I figured - I brush my teeth every day.. I should be ok, right? WRONG. Apparently my dementia is setting in where I can't watch tv at the same time while eating with a fork. This genius managed to chomp down on the fork wrong and chip my two front teeth. Nothing too serious - but god, that has NEVER happened to me before. So - where does a "broke-still-paying-law school-loans-of-$200k @ 8.5% interest-with-minimal-income" lady turn? GROUPON!! But if we're talking about my teeth, I'm going to do my research. I saw the GroupOn for cleaning, xray, exam at $59 with Dr. Chen, and I decided to give him a call. RESEARCH/ REVIEW OF OTHERS: As you can see from the reviews, everyone gave stellar reviews about Dr. Chen. At first I was a bit wary with the high reviews (sometimes the yelp reviews need to be taken with a grain of salt)... but i figured it was at least worth a call to see if they could fix teeth ~ since the GroupOn was for specifically for cleaning and what not. TESTING THE WATERS: I gave the office a call and the receptionist was super friendly and helpful despite my 100-question deposition (haha- aka: tons of questions). What's even more amazing - Dr. Chen *himself* called me back to ask about the chipped teeth! That to me, speaks volumes about a doctor who builds a relationship with his patients + cares about his practice. Whatever insecurities I had about the reviews were absolutely dispelled, and I made the appointment for just two days later, despite the distance. SERVICE EVALUATION: The office is located along some café called "The Hub". I circled the lot a bit because the signage for "Skyline Dental" is actually on the door (the big red sign just says "DENTIST"). Receptionist was really friendly, and I noticed there was a good mix of clientele (both in age and ethnicity). Finally went in to see Dr. Chen. Dr. Chen was even more friendly in person and made me feel at ease. Maybe because he's young? (I have no clue.. asian people hide it well, even from other asians..) He made me feel like I was talking with a old colleague.. Hell - I even found myself telling him that I haven't seen a dentist in like.. 3+ years. (Who does that?! Haha~) I had my xrays done and Dr. Chen took the time to explain in layman terms - how bad my teeth were chipped. He answered all my questions and really gained my confidence that he was capable, qualified and able to fix the really stupid problem I brought in. I was a little worried since the chip ran down in between teeth and especially cuz they were my front teeth (palm to face.. shakes head). Anyhow, the procedure was quick, painless and easier than I thought it would be! When I sat up to see the final product, it was as if the chips never happened! The cleaning experience was also great.. my pearly whites were literally sparkling when I left. One thing I noted: where other dentists have hygienists or assistants doing some of the work - Dr. Chen covered those bases himself. Personally, I think that takes a level of skill. Oh yeah.. lawyer me looked up his credentials and -huh- fellow Cal Bear and USC Dental grad. GO BEARS! That gets my two thumbs up! I would ABSOLUTELY recommend Dr. Chen. (I also agree with Patty H.. he ain't so bad on the eyes either. ^^ Heh -- he's cute!), and I am definitely returning. His prices are reasonable, fair and I really like how he explains dental concerns in a way that you can understand. That knowledge really helps you as the patient, feel at ease with what's going on. After a few appointments, I have a beautiful and strong porcelain molar tooth to chew on my right side. Before coming here, I used to be very anxious of dental work and dental appointments in general, but with Dr. Harvey dental work on my tooth Implant, teeth, and crowns were positively smooth, calming, and safe. I have never looked up health services on Yelp, but once my wisdom teeth started growing out and I was panicking to find a place that was affordable (I don't have insurance) I decided to give Yelp a try and low and behold I found Dr. Chen at Skyline Dental! Not only was my extractions affordable, it was completely painless! I was being a baby at first and completely broke down and had a panic attack but Dr. Chen was really patient with me and made me feel comfortable through the whole process. I have yet to go back for my 4th extraction, but trust me he is the best dentist I have ever been to! He is knowledgeable, friendly, and extremely down to earth. I came here to get my wisdom teeth pulled and honestly the experience was absolutely awesome, granted that I only got my top teeth pulled (Yea describing wisdom teeth extractions as awesome is pretty whack). I had my bottom two wisdom teeth pulled 4 years ago from another dentist and it literally gave me PTSD. I bled for like a week and woke up in a pool of my blood. I had a fever and afterward found out that the dentist left pieces of metal in my mouth. (Showed up in my xray) I thought I was going to die pretty much and have put off pulling my top teeth for the longest time Fast forward and my wisdom teeth are growing out and starting to bother me. I went to go get it checked and basically right then and there decided to take it out. The whole procedure took literally like 5 minutes. There's a lot of pressure and it feels pretty weird but overall no pain. When I started to feel even a bit of pain, Dr. Chen stopped and gave me more anesthesia. Afterwards the nurse explained everything really well and the bleeding stopped in about 8 hrs. No pool of blood, no pain. I was prescribed pain killers (800mg) but I didn't even need them. I only took over the counter advil. By the next day everything was good. I've regained my trust in wisdom teeth pulling (wouldn't do it again, but if I did I would be doing it here) I've read a lot of the 1 star reviews and while I sympathize with those patients, I personally have not been treated as such and have had a great experience here. read more

I've been coming here for the past 9 years and when this COVID-19 hit, lots of businesses got affected and one of my worries was having to find a new dentist! I've never felt so worried of possibly losing my dentist! Thank goodness Skyline Dental is still in operation and still seeing patients. I went for a cleaning a few days ago and they even explained the new procedures with cleaning and sanitation that they do before each patient. Over the years I've had a lot of dental work and Dr. Chen is the best at what he does. He's has techniques to apply numbing agents without me noticing! If it wasn't for his skill, I'd probably wouldn't have the procedures I had done due to fear. I'm very happy with the results with the work and cleanings I've done here over the years. Really want to give this place a good review, but I can't. Came here for my annual cleaning after reading the good reviews here, but unfortunately, this place didn't turn out as expected. The people were nice and everything, but they only want your money. As I said, I came for my cleaning and ended up having them tell me I need a root canal, dental implants, etc. All that and didn't even get my teeth cleaned. They wanted me to pay around $7,000 for all the work I supposedly needed. I ended up getting a second opinion and the other dentist said my teeth were fine and just needed cleaning. Hello?! For those of you who were told they need multiple dental work done, I suggest getting a second opinion. read more

I never went to a dentist in this area before, so I decided to go on Yelp to find a good one. I found this place with a pretty good rating so I didn't even care to take a look at the reviews and just went ahead called in for appointment. I think they probably is pretty busy cuz I remember I ask for Saturday spot and ended up need to wait a month. I didn't mind at all since I would just like to do a check up and basic cleaning. When I come to this area immediately I think I come to the right place since it's in a pretty nice neighborhood. The office is nice and clean too. They did a X-ray for my teeth since I'm a new patient. The doctor came after all the X-Ray is done and he checked my teeth and also the films. He started to tell me that I might have a generic problem which cause my teeth not strong enough and would need to remove 2 of the worst ones and do implant. The nurse was kind enough to keep trying to see how should I plan for the treatment to save the most with my insurance. I ended up refused all the treatment that's not 100% covered by the insurance company. One is cuz I was leaving to Taiwan soon and I want to get more professional advises and also cuz they seemed really eager for doing the treatment right away. After I went back to Taiwan, I went to another doctor. He did the X-Ray and check up for me too. He's really mad on Dr. Chan told me that I need to do implant cuz I am not even close yet. He said it is a really unprofessional diagnosis that he's really trying to make money from it, I can sue him with the X-Ray that I have. I am really disappointed. I believe most of the people like me is as clueless as me and the only thing we can do is to listen to whatever the doctor told us. It is really sad that a doctor could provide such a unprofessional diagnosis just to make money. It is so scary! I will never come back again! read more

I feel for dentists, really, I do. I mean, they spend all day wrist deep in someones grill, usually someone who doesnt floss daily, with breath that smells like butt, and then these people have the audacity to say "i hate dentists!"!! Rude. That being said, Dr. Chen totally did NOT mind being up close and personal with my tooths, smelling my Dorito breath, the millions of questions I asked, or my extreme unease around drills and needles. In fact, he was smiling and pleasant the whole time, totally patient with my queasiness, and made sure I was comfortable. The good stuff: - He does cleanings himself, NOT his dental hygienist - Flat screen t.v and you get the remote (and he didn't talk sh!t when I put it on Jersey Shore) - Receptionists are young, yes, but also very friendly and easy to talk to - After I told him that I have had previous issues getting numb, he made sure to give me a couple extra shots of the good stuff - He gives you a little thing that holds your mouth open for you (hey! who told him I was lazy?!) - I got a couple fillings and a tooth pulled out. None of it hurt. Swear. - Open after 5:00 and on weekends! The low down: - As another person of color, i'm always hesitant to go to a dentist with an all asian staff. I feel like they're gonna judge me somehow. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE!!! Everyone was super friendly and non judgmental! - I'm also poor (big surprise there), so he worked with me on a payment plan, even allowing me to post date a check 2 weeks in advance! **If you have time to read the following review, please do. :) Otherwise, here is a quick summary: DO NOT COME HERE!! I have had 2 cleanings, a couple fillings done, and my wisdom teeth taken out here. Dr. Chen likes using a mouth propper, which has messed up my jaw. It is now unaligned and pops every time I open my mouth. It locks up too. Sucks big time, and this can't be fixed either, so I'd suggest you to go somewhere where they don't use mouth proppers. Plus, this was the only dentist in my life to ever have used one on me. Having your mouth propped open for 1-2 hours every visit really kills your jaw, and you have me to prove it. My fillings also took 3 tries til it didn't hurt anymore.. ***** Dr. Chen seems pretty cool, he's not the typical asian dentist. The facility looks really nice and there's plenty of parking. You can watch food network while you're getting your teeth cleaned or extracted. The first time I visited, I was able to get a free consultation and x-ray because my wisdom teeth were bothering me. It was difficult to make an appointment but they squeezed me in anyway. I couldn't afford the cash prices, it's $300/tooth that was under the gums, and $150 for the ones that had already grown out. Luckily, a week later they didn't hurt anymore. But then I upgraded my dental insurance to PPO and went back for my cleaning. The cleaning was covered, but the I had to pay for the fluoride..$24?!? Even if it's not covered, I still think that's a lot of money for a 5-minute treatment of fluoride on your teeth. It would also be helpful if the receptionist would give me the prices before I had work done. I scheduled an appointment for the following week to extract all 4 of my wisdom teeth and boy, was I scared!! I didn't have any major problems except food getting stuck but I decided to do it since Dr. Chen recommended it and it was about $130 for all 4 teeth with my insurance. I was nervous all week and kept wanting to call in to cancel my appointment. I didn't want to extract anything! I called in to ask Martina about the procedure. My appointment was for 4pm on a Friday after work and they alloted me an hour, meaning everything would be finished by 5pm. Keep in mind that the facility closes at 6pm and I drove myself to the dentist. They told me that they usually schedule patients a couple hours before closing so that they can keep an eye on the patient after the procedure, just in case. All went well and I didn't feel a thing. Lots of shots and my mouth was numb as ever. Except that I was all sweaty the whole time holding onto the arm rests and closing my eyes. It took 30 minutes to extract my 4 wisdom teeth, which I never saw by the way. Lots of bleeding afterwards and gauze, etc. Was able to fill my penicillin prescription at Target for $14. I finished at approximately 5pm and was still shaken up by the entire thing. I couldn't talk because I'm numb and bleeding so much. I felt sleepy and tired. One of the dental assistants asked if I wanted to stay or I could go home, and I said I'll stay. 15 minutes passed and she came back to say that I had to leave because they were closing, but it was only 5:15pm and they close at 6pm!! I was very annoyed that they were treating me this way after I just had a major procedure done. I was planning on just resting there until 6pm so that I would feel okay to drive to Target or home. Also, during the procedure the dentist said I needed a pulp cap and that one of my old fillings was decaying and so he recommended a $50 IDC medication to cover it so that it wouldn't hurt later on..sigh, my mouth was numb! So there goes half a day's wages down the drain. The receptionist later on explained that you wouldn't know if you needed a pulp cap until you remove the old filling, but I was still upset that I wasn't informed ahead of time when I wasn't numb.. After the procedure, I was only given my prescription and a paper with some general rules that said not to eat hot food and to stick with normal temp/cold foods. But no list with the types of food one should eat. For someone who doesn't know anyone who had taken out their wisdom before, there should be a little more direction and help from the dentist who extracts wisdoms everyday! I kept getting food stuck in the holes and couldn't get it out for one-two days. I went back one week after the procedure and finally they gave me a water squirter..umm why wouldn't you give me that when the procedure was first done?! It really would've saved me a couple hours.. One of my fillings was really sensitive and Dr. Chen had to re-do it twice. So 3 visits for 1 filling..yay! Now my jaw is unaligned and it will pop every time I open my mouth for the rest of my life. read more

More than 2 years ago I went in there for a cleaning service. After the X-ray and brief examination I was told by the doctor that I needed a dental implant. Same with some other reviewers here, I was lured in because of the good reviews on yelp, but it turns out all they want is you to spend lots of money. After the cleaning I was brought to a private office and the so called manager tried to push and sell me on the implant. Felt like I was at a used car dealership and being forced to buy. I hated the feeling and was really surprised about it. I declined the implant and went somewhere else to get 2nd opinion, and the doctor over there thought my tooth was fine. No implant needed. He said my tooth definitely didn't need to be pulled to get an implant. On the side note, the doctor who did my cleaning was inexperienced. His hands were shaking when he was performing the procedures. And he couldn't even explain the procedure very well in English too. Anyways I will not be going back ever again. I had two teeth crowns made here several years ago. I started feeling funny with those crowns recently and I needed to do something immediately due to the pain. It happens that their advertisement was sent to my home this weekend so I called in to make an appointment. Until this morning I realized that it was the same dentist that I had my teeth wrongly taken cared a few years ago, then, I decided I am not going to this dental office. I could only give one star for the negative experience I had before and the star is for the courteous staff at the counter, not for the clinical treatment. The disappointment was tremendous because there was only one crown actually needed. I have another tooth that only needed a filling, but this doctor took both teeth out and made two new crowns without clearly telling me what's going on. Unfortunately this mistake is irreversible. Not only I felt regrettable after the fact; more worse things happened after, the color of the crown was fading... they are so obviously different from the neighboring teeth, I started feeling the loose and uncomfortable sense around those teeth. I felt weird and I had to lick my teeth crowns to remove something. The unpleasant feeling has bothered me for a long while. .... I need to find a dentist to fix my pain but definitely not the one who caused the problem. Sad....... read more

I JUST FOUND MY REGULAR DENTIST FOR LIFE!!!! Ok, SO I found Dr. Chen via Yelp. I read all the good reviews and I decided to pay him a visit to see if all of it was true or if it really was what one of the review said "...all these reviews are from his friends." I was really convinced to visit him until I read that, but I still went today. I've been to so many dentists in my life, because I'm paranoid about my teeth and definitely, Dr. Chen is a Keeper ;) . Anyway, Dr. Chen is very friendly and professional. He seems honest and he genuinely cares for your teeth and not about getting your money! I had a lot of questions for him as in regards for me to get braces again, getting my frenum removed and other questions. He said, he honestly didn't recommend some of the procedures I asked for, he could have easily said YES get it done and get more money but NOPE! I got a cleaning done and He actually does the cleaning himself. No one helped him and he was great. I don't know his staff members, but they are all very friendly. They actually have a conversation with you and it's not like they have you open, close your mouth and stick instruments with a straight face NO. They make you feel very comfortable. The office is very nice and it's very high tech! Flat screen TV with Direct TV (I think it was). They take instant x-rays and Dr. Chen shows them to you on the Flat Screen TV. It's so cool. The girl who sat me on the station, even asked if I wanted to watch TV, I opted for a magazine but she still put Keeping Up with the Kardashians if I wanted to watch it haha! I would have rather watched the Jersey Shore- KIDDING! Oh yeah, and he showed me his facebook page where he has wisdom extractions he has performed, He made it seem so simple and it's not even gross to look at. Call me nasty, but I thought it was pretty cool :) As far as pricing, very reasonable :) This is getting TOO LONG! BOTTOM LINE: I am NOT related to Dr. Chen, HE is not giving me discount to write this review for him, I just want to say that HE IS GREAT & Kinda CUTE haha! I only drove about 5 miles to see him, but if I moved, I will definitely drive the extra miles to have him take care of my teeth :) BTW: Happy Skyline Dental FIRst YEAR Anniversary (He said tomorrow it's been a year he opened this practice)! This guy needs 2 or 3 exams to find out whats wrong with your teeth. After every visit, I complain about pain and sensitivity in different areas and then he recommends a fix. I went to a different dentist and told me that this guy missed couple cavities.... Seems like a smart guy but dont think hes much of a dentist. Not cheap either. What they quote you is what you have to pay. No exception on how much work you are getting done or if you are paying cash No discount here. read more

Stopped by Dr. Chen's office today to get my annual exam and cleaning. I was amazed by the new technology he uses, specifically the x-ray machine which posts instant digital x-rays of your teeth. This means we do not have to wait 10-15 mins anymore for the developing time. You can even see your x-rays on the flat-screen TVs as they are being taken. The dentist is very thorough and friendly. Dr. Chen is fresh out of USC dental school so he is familiar with the trends and newest technology. The office and tools he uses are brand new. There are also flat screen televisions to help you focus on something other than whatever treatment you are getting. He also does the teeth cleaning himself which is really important for some people. Overall, he is there to answer any questions you have about your teeth. I highly recommend going here for any of your dental needs. **********Update 5/15********** Dr. Chen contacted me after seeing my previous 3 star review. I was surprised by the care he had given me. We made an appointment, he took a look at my teeth again and decided to re do the fillings. My teeth are currently still recovering but whether it will fully recover, only time will tell. I was told my fillings were deep and close to the nerve; which will cause the sensitivity and the pain. Either way, Dr. Chen was helpful and friendly. Despite my frustrated review, he continued to help me out and will do the same in the future. Hopefully my teeth will get better. If not, I may be looking at a possible root canal in the future. But, I know nothing about teeth besides how annoying it is when it's sensitive. So... I'll continue to just go along with what the dentist tells me and trust their suggestions. **********April 25********** Great customer service. Fantastic people. But you don't go to the dentist to get treated as if you're at a 5 star hotel. You go there to get your teeth taken care of. Unfortunately, in my case, i got the great customer service but my teeth are far worse then it was before I went in. I felt like they were in a hurry to "treat" me and get my money. Went in for a sensitive teeth about 6 months ago after not going to the dentist for years. They said I had cavities. So, I trusted and scheduled an appointment. It wasn't Dr. Chen though, it was some other lady doc. Anyways, I have difficult time chewing even now. I thought, whatever, not a big deal. Went back recently for sensitive teeth again, Dr. Chen (this time) said I have cavities... again... uhhmmm... so I thought... okay.... that's fine... I guess it's my fault. Made an appointment. Now I have to avoid eating and drinking anything that is considered cool to cold or else my teeth gets extremely painful. Anything I drink now is through a straw and I have to avoid it touching my teeth. Maybe I was just one of those SOL people. Either way, I'm screwed now. What used to be a perfectly fine teeth about 6 months ago just crumbled down. If my teeth ever gets better, I'll change the review as I really hate writing negative comments. They do a great job on giving you options for whatever care you need. I love how honest Dr Chen is and doesn't try to sell you on services that are unnecessary. I was recommended to come here by a coworker three years ago, and I've been coming here ever since. In case folks are worried about their insurance coverage, I have Blue Shield PPO, and the receptionist is really good about checking whether or not you have coverage to go to them. When I first went to him, it was due to a concern about one of my molars. I had different dentists' opinions on whether or not I needed a root canal. Obviously, I did not want to have a root canal, and Harvey Chen was able to patch up that tooth. However, he did warn me that if it did get worse, i.e. sensitivity with tooth, I would have to get a root canal. Fast forward two years. The filling on that tooth was a bit chipped. I moved away, so I went to a different dentist, and they were not able to fix it (I think they actually made it worse). I drove an hour away just to see Dr. Chen, and he was able to patch it up. Again, acknowledging that I would need to get a root canal if it needs to be patched up a third time. Also, for the time I came back to him, I was not charged a fee. On another note, I also go to him for cleanings. He and his dental assistants are amazing, and they do a great job of actually making sure my teeth come out sparkling. read more

This clinic is great. Clean and cozy. Dr. Chen is awesome. I cracked my tooth while eating a Fritos at work and was freaking out. One, my own dentist (who lives pretty far from me) was on vacation and I needed to get this tooth fixed. I went to my friend's wife's clinic (who is a pediatric dentist) thinking she may help me out. When she told me that I needed a root canal, I was pretty bummed. Since she doesn't have the tools to do it, she recommended me to Dr. Chen. Dr. Chen did a FANTASTIC job. He was able to save my tooth (it was in the verge of despair) and the root canal was PAINLESS. I was so impressed! I had a root canal before and I remember how uncomfortable it was :( but Dr Chen's techniques were great. Not only that, his digital xrays were so cool (high tech, yo!) Despite I had to comeback twice to get my crown fitted, each visit was quick. He was very detailed and gentle. Super friendly. Another thing, I have no dental insurance. Yet my root canal and crown (that matches my teeth color) was really reasonable. Love it. Thank you Dr Chen! Well, it's been exactly two weeks after my wisdom tooth extraction. I wanted to wait a bit after my experience just in case anything else happens but I guess Dr. Chen's skill set is so good he ensures a smooth recovery as well LOL. Anyway, I found this dental office on Yelp just like most of you guys I'm sure. Wanted to switch dentist places to a place where I feel more comfortable and trustworthy since my old dentist was the complete opposite from that. Here, Dr. Chen is great at making you feel comfortable no matter how scared you are. This is coming from someone with a sleeved leg and is terrified of the dentist since I was a kid. Dr. Chen is also very skilled, and the reason why I say that , is because he does not have trouble where other dentist might, aka specifically my wisdom extraction( which I had problems with my old dentist). Let's not forget the great receptionist Kay that will give you a walk through and step by step directions for your appointment, and post appointment. Very tentative and friendly and also pretty quick on text if you ever have any questions! All in all, this is my new and favorite dentistry and I'm more relaxed coming to the dentist now! There are many dentists out there who will take advantage of you and your money. If you want a professional, competent, and honest dentist, Dr. Chen is the perfect dentist for you. I had a chipped tooth and grinding issues that I needed to fix. Dr. Chen easily removed the decayed areas of the tooth and filled it in very little time. He also cleaned my teeth while the anesthetic was setting in. I was also able to get a mouth guard for my grinding issue; now, my significant other and I can rest peacefully without waking up to the grinding noise! There is also something unique that Dr. Chen uses: he places a biting block in between my teeth to keep my mouth steady during the procedure. That way, I don't have to keep my mouth open the entire time, and it also helps Dr. Chen to make the procedure more effective. Because of the biting block and Dr. Chen's steady hands, my teeth feel perfectly healthy today. And I feel confident that I won't have to visit the dentist for a long time. Most importantly, Dr. Chen will always be honest with his patients. He knows exactly what your teeth issues are and will charge you much less than other dentists. I know because I've experienced horrible dentists who charge you for extra services you don't need. After weighing options with several dentists, Dr. Chen was always the best. 5 stars for Skyline Dental; I will never go anywhere else! read more

Any time I would go to a dentist whether it'd be here in LA or in Taiwan, I would always get the shivers. But thanks for Dr. Chen, I ALWAYS have a pleasant experience here! I've been here for my teeth cleaning, cavities, and my mouth guard. Experience - [x] Teeth cleaning - Very gentle and he doesn't use a lot of pressure. Takes about 30 mins? Not bad! [x] Cavities - PAIN FREE! Of course, I do ask for the numbing shot because I'm a scaredy cat, but when Dr. Chen gives me the shot, I can't feel ANYTHING. No pain when the needle is poking into my gum (that's the part that I'm most afraid of and Dr. Chen has helped me overcome that!) And the entire process is very smooth and easy. *** After every visit, they give you a little goodie bag with toothbrush, floss, and toothpaste! I definitely highly recommend this place! Dr. HArvey Chen. Graducated from USC with his Degree. Need I say more??? Ok so I do. He is by far the best dentist I've ever had. First day of check ups he cleaned my teeth at the same time. I haven't gotten any cleaning done for about 8 years. Had no cavities or any problems. Dr. Chen cleans the teeth personally so you know you get taken care of. May be I'm lucky or may be it's because Dr. Chen has mad skills , but I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled out on the same day by him, all four!!! , and had no problems. Just bleeding the first day but no real pain. No need for painkillers which is always nice. Since I've heard a lot of scary stories about the wisdom teeth I was a little worried but no problems here. To top it all off you get to see some Direct TV while you're in the chair doing whatever it is you're doing there. Thanks Dr. Chen. I will be back for my 6month checks from now on. read more

My dental insurance has been very inconsistent in the last 10 years. The last time I saw a dentist was 4 years ago, and he suggested that I pull my wisdom tooth and his dental hygienist conducted the cleaning. I came to Skyline Dental expecting the same thing, however this was not the case. Dr. Chen very honest and upfront about everything and explained my insurance coverage in relation to the work that I needed. He told me that I would never have to worry about my wisdom tooth, took photos of my cavity and other teeth that needed attention, conducted the cleaning, and patched up the cavity. I appreciate that he didn't do an exam and pass me down to the hygienist to do the work. His staff is also very nice and the office was clean. I'm going back in 6 months and actually looking forward to seeing the dentist again! read more

Best dentist I ever had. I can trust his judgement and feel safe to know he is not trying to make me do more dental work then I need to. Once you become his patient you'll never want to try another dentist. The facility is clean and equipped with new technology. I like that they use digital X-ray and cameras to show you on the TV your teeth. He patiently explains the problem and shows you what he is talking about. Dr. Harvey is probably the only dentist that tells me you don't need it. Most dentist will try to switch my amalgam fillings for white composites, but he told me there isn't any reason to except for cosmetic reasons. In fact, amalgam last longer.
