You haven't had chili until you have had Skyline and the almost endless possibilities of eating it. I haven't been in such a long time and can't believe I have never reviewed. My ex-husband's band played in Cincy every other month and Skyline was always a stop on those trips. Not a bean lover? Don't worry, they've got you covered. You can get 3-way, 4-way, and 5-way versions. I would often get 3-way: spaghetti and chili (no beans, add diced onions) piled high with a mountain of shredded cheddar. Woo-Wee! Don't get me started on those deliciously golden fries that come in classic, cheese and chili cheese. Dare I say woo-wee again? I do dare. Prefer a sandwich? I suggest the chili cheese sandwich. Yep, chili and cheese on a bun. Or a Coney hot dog, or Coney dog with cheese & chili. Want other options? Once again, they've got you covered! Get a wrap, salad, or burrito. And, of course, BOWLS of chili are available. Always amazing service. Always amazing food. I LOVE Skyline and have almost always had great experiences, but this one left something to be desired. One positive is that they have a free parking lot behind the building. When you leave, they give you one color of a long piece of wood. When you pay your bill, they exchange it for a different color to confirm you did in fact eat at Skyline. When we walked in to the restaurant, I tried to hand the person that greeted us the wood and she gave me an attitude about it. Being our first time there I had no idea when the exchange actually took place. The place was packed, but we were able to be seated right away. Our server wasn't the friendliest. She asked if we had been to Skyline before and when my daughter said "yes" she said "when why haven't you ordered" We ordered and moments later, we got our food. But it was basically thrown at us. When my daughter asked for more oyster crackers, she was told that she could get some, but if we wanted more she could buy a box at the checkout. The food itself was the awesome skyline that it always is. Great flavor, lots of cheese and all around delicious. Many servers walked past our table several times, but no one checked on us, and when we flagged someone down to ask about getting our waters refilled, she again gave us attitude and had someone else bring it over. When we checked out, I had a question about pricing on a shirt and a sticker. The person at the register was very terse and said "I don't know, why don't you look and see if it is on the item" (it wasn't). So they looked it up but weren't happy about it. They also didn't seem happy that I asked for a bag for my leftovers. The register is the magic place that you exchanged for the other color of wood. Overall, the food is the same great Skyline experience you get other places, but the service and attitudes were pretty awful. read more

We were visiting from out of town and googled best food in Cincinnati. Skyline chili came up so we decided to try it. I had the skyline chili over Spaghetti and my husband had the skyline chili with the hotdog. We also had the chili fries. It was different than anything we are accustomed to, and honestly, we're not really impressed. There really was not a lot of flavor. Although I did not use the hot sauce. It was just OK. The service was fabulous, our server was very friendly and had a lot of knowledge of the product. It was a very nice bright open restaurant with a lot of seating. Don't be a square, sit at the bar for that authentic experience. Because I'm not here to play games, I ordered the 5 ways. This was: spaghit, chili, shredded cheese, diced onion, and beans. And because I'm also not there to play games, I got it with the extreme habanero cheese. I did order the small only because I was unsure of if I was going to like it. In reality, had I known then what did now, I would have ordered all of it. Not as much as possible. All. Of. It. I just don't even know how to explain it. It's spigot with chili and cheese. It tastes like dreams feel. It tastes like what a child's laughter sounds like. They could have served this out of a sweaty gym sock and I would have politely asked for more. Here's the bonus. The lady sitting next to me was eating a couple coney dogs. I noticed I didn't even have one. So, I ordered a single coney. Habanero cheese. Another home run. It almost doesn't seem fair. I had never tried this place and have always heard about it. I didn't know exactly what to expect but if you like cheese, this is YOUR PLACE !! I had a coney bowl that was mostly chili and cheese with 3 smaller sized hotdogs in it. It was a good thing to say I have tried but I don't really think I want to do it again. Stopped by Skyline Chili in the Clifton area of Cincinnati. When you arrive, there is a parking lot off to the side reserved for the restaurant. When you walk into the restaurant, you'll have the option to sit at the bar or a table. I ordered the 3-Way which is the signature dish and includes steaming spaghetti covered with their secret recipe chili topped with a mound of shredded cheddar cheese. The dish was okay and definitely something you should try when in Cincy. The chili was more like a bolognese sauce. If you are in Cincinnati, I recommend trying Skyline Chili. Skyline is a must whenever you're visiting Cincy and this location has a lot of memories as an alum from UC. I used to walk down from campus with friends, or stop in with family, and now whenever we visit town we make it a point to stop in. This location has a lot of charm, and a parking lot- which is a big win. The food is consistent and they have some merch that's specifically for this location. The team here has always been friendly and it's often students from UC who are helping you. My go to order is two cheese coneys and a chilito. We live in California now and while we buy cans of chili and make three ways at home, you really cannot replicate the coneys or the chilitos. While visiting Cincinnati, we made it an emphasis to try at least two chili spots. This Skyline Chili is minutes away from the Cincinnati Zoo. The zoo allows outside food and drinks. As such, we stopped by for takeout and to have as lunch at the zoo. We ordered the 3-way, cheese coney, and fries to share among the four of us. The 3-way is their signature dish-steaming spaghetti, covered with their secret-recipe chili and topped with a mound of shredded cheddar cheese. The cheese coney is a classic hot dog with mustard and covered with their secret-recipe chili, diced onions and a mound of shredded cheddar cheese. Portions were enough for two adults and two young children and also because we got baked goods from a local bakery as dessert. One cannot take these hearty meals lightly. Skyline chili is an institution in this city of Cincinnati and I had to try it. I am a personal fan of chili and this one is truly unique. It is flavored with either cinnamon or cloves or something to that effect.. I can't tell. However it is very different. MIL wanted to make sure I came here since it's a staple. I was really excited. I got a 4-way with onions (I would totally do a 5-way because I think I would also enjoy the beans). Topped with the most cheese, which is perfect. Complete mess the entire time I ate. She had us put on bibs for pics but I actually needed it. I feel like this is something I would scarf down in private since I'd be so messy. I get it - it's oddly satisfying. And the dogs were fine. But unfortunately I did not like the chili. It was served under a mountain of shredded cheddar. And the chili just was very runny and had an odd texture. The food was good, but the burrito was pretty soggy. If you've never gotten the burrito before, don't expect a burrito, it is pretty much just a tortilla under a bed of chili. This Skyline is the best in the city! The workers are always so efficient and kind, often getting food to you within 5 minutes of you ordering. The place is incredibly clean, and you can see employees vacuuming or detailing windows often. I visited the original one, on multiple occasions, because I stayed up the street and around the corner at the Graduate Hotel, located on the campus of University of Cincinnati. The service was top notch! Upon entering, a hearty greeting from all the workers. Similar to the NC greeting at any Waffle House. I ordered the 5 way with jalapeno cheese each time. They bag the cheese on the side for to-go orders. I love that! Not a fan of baked spaghetti or thick melted cheese. Side note: They have these little half filled packets of hot sauce that I am a fannnnn of! Made sure to take a few to stow away in my luggage to bring back to NC for a little zing! Watch out now Popeyes! This little hot sauce zip is almost as close as yours, except the sauce packet is full! Can't wait to taste the "either you like it" or "not" flavors of cardimon, star aninise, bay leaves, and other spices for a traditional 5 way Skyline spaghetti dish. I learned last week while visiting Ohio that eating chili and spaghetti is a "thing" there. It's like having beignets at Cafe du Monde in New Orleans or dining at Katz's Deli in New York City. In Cincinnati that food tradition is followed at Skyline Chili. Or at least I was told that and at this location in particular. It seems that Skyline is the most famous restaurant that specializes in chili on pasta or on a coney (hot dog for us Southerners). I dined here for lunch last Saturday after visiting the nearby Cincinnati Zoo. They have their own free parking lot behind the restaurant and is the best place to park. After being seated in this "diner" style restaurant my waitress Aubrey explained to me that there are about 200 Skyline locations in the greater Cincy area! That's a lot. I did notice one in the airport when I arrived and another at the Zoo that I had just left so she is probably right. They are all over. The menu is pretty simple and I ordered a 4 way large size. I chose beans to be added but didn't want the raw onions or it would have been a 5 way. With a soft drink and tax the meal cost $15 and came out in about 5 minutes. It was a big plate of 'ghetti with a heaping portion of chili and ALOT of shredded cheese on top. The meal was very good tasting and filling. I liked the chili flavor (4) but prefer my beans larger than that. It was a lot of food and I would order it again. Aubrey did a great job waiting on me and was friendly and personable. Well I honestly didn't know what to expect when I first was brought to this joint. I never heard of this place before and he suspiciously was grinning when we pulled up there. He asked if I wanted a "coney" kind or "spaghetti" kind - I opted for the latter. As I uncovered the 3 Way "spaghetti" in front of me, I thought I was about to dive into a classic spaghetti dish. Boy, was I in for a surprise! Little did I know that this was no ordinary pasta dish - it was chili in disguise! The first bite hit me like a punchline I didn't see coming - unexpected but undeniably memorable. I immediately went to look at the menu to read the description of this dish. It says: "our signature dish-steaming spaghetti covered with our secret-recipe chili and topped with a mound of shredded cheddar cheese". Hm, secret-recipe... well that didn't help explain what I just tasted lol. Taking another bite, the confusion started building up as I tried to make sense of the unexpected flavor medley. A Cincinnati staple, I knew I had to stop by here on my trip. Cincinnati chili is an interesting concept - more akin to a pasta meat sauce than the chili I'm familiar with, plus some Greek influenced seasoning that includes a hefty amount of cinnamon. I wasn't sure what I was going to think of it, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Skyline offers just a few items and they're all centered around the chili naturally. I ordered a small 3 way which was unique and surprisingly tasty. I also ordered 1 cheese coney which is basically a chili cheese dog and it was also incredibly good. This is more on the level of junk food than anything. This is not fine dining by any means. It reminds me a quite bit of the culture around Rochester garbage plates (which if you've never had, highly recommend). Really enjoyed my experience here, probably not a place I'd frequent often if I lived in the area, but definitely a must visit at least once in your lifetime kind of place. I fell in love with the server when she asked if I wanted an extra refill for the road to go. That's a rare ask, and yes I left extra tip because she reminded me that now I don't need to get another drink along the road to keep washing down those Chili flavors. The small portion and a side salad was a perfect balance for lunch. If I'd been extra hungry, I probably could have taken down a medium for lunch, but maybe I'd consider sharing a large with a willing partner who wanted the same way. read more

I happened to be in Cincinnati for a business trip with coworkers. As a native, I of course took them to experience Graeters and Skyline Chili at the og spot. They inquired about the nature of chili so I told them it's basically a super food. I got a 3 way and a cheese coney. It was just as I had remembered. Well, we're in Cincinnati, and Skyline Chili had to be done, so we did it. We came to the Ludlow location because the original one has closed and this is the oldest surviving one and seems to be the most beloved in the city. It's got that generic diner-y vibe without much of the charm unfortunately, but the folks are nice and this feels like an important part of Americana food, so take it for what it is. We ordered the classic 3-way, a Greek salad, a garden salad, some fries, and a pasta and cheese for our daughter. So, the 3-way is...interesting. Like, the concept if well-executed could be delicious, but we did not love what we were provided here: mushy soft pasta, followed by chili that was a bit too sweet and runny/watery, followed by a mountain of shockingly orange shredded cheese. We thought that taking a bite of it all together would be the ticket, but no. We're not knocking it! We know people love this dish, but it just wasn't for us. The salads were a nice crunchy contrast, and their Greek dressing is supposed to be special, but tasted like Kraft. Fries weren't great, but our daughter appreciated getting spaghetti with cheddar cheese. All in all, we're glad we came and gave it a go, but can't say that we loved it. I've been to Skyline before, but not this location. The dining room is clean and prettty spacious. This service here is great and they get you in and out. That's what I love about Skyline. Cheap, fast, and most importantly delicious. This place also reminds me of a taco place in Chicago that seats you and immediately ask what you want to order without giving you menus. I knew what I wanted but unfortunately I came with my brothers who have never eaten here before so we asked for menus and probably through them off a bit. The only way to get Cincinnati style chili is five way. You get the spaghetti, covered in chili, beans and onions; and the topped off with a crap load of cheese. You also get oyster crackers and put some hot sauce on top and that's all she wrote. Very tasty and very filling.
