Was kind of disappointed in this location. It is so true that while this is a chain and or franchise, not all locations are created equal. Infact I have had a different experience ordering the same exact thing at every single location. I utilized the drive thru and ordered a large 5 way with habanero cheese as well as a large sweet tea. I like that they offer a large size of tea, as many locations only have 1 small size. Sadly my spaghetti was quite mushy. The chili and onions were fine. The biggest problem was they only gave me one tiny bag of cheese for a large size way. At other locations there would've been 3 bags. Bleh, this did not fulfill my usual skyline craving. read more

TL;DR: I went back to Skyline Chili today for the first time in twenty years while on Thanksgiving break. When I first had Skyline as a kid, I didn't really like it, but I've come to really respect Cincinnati's signature chili dish! I ordered the four-way spaghetti with onions, and it's definitely something I'd end up craving when I'm away from home... This place gets five stars for its uniqueness, taste, and homey atmosphere. THE LONG REVIEW: Cincinnati chili sauce was never trying to compete with or be Texas-style chili con carne. I want to put that out there up front. It is simply a different kind of chili sauce, containing spices like cinnamon, cumin, nutmeg, allspice, chili, etc., according to Wikipedia. My palate is not refined enough to taste these spices in the sauce as I'm eating the four-way, but you can definitely smell the spices that set Cincinnati chili apart from other kinds of chili as soon as you enter the restaurant. Don't let the list of spices scare you, though. These spices are really not as in-your-face as you'd think, and it's overall quite a palatable, flavorful chili sauce. The ground meat is also evenly dispersed throughout the sauce and not too chunky, which I appreciated. Upon seating ourselves, we were each given a small pre-packaged bag of oyster crackers, which were mild in flavor, crunchy, and not too salty. I noticed other customers in the restaurant enjoying these crackers as is or mixed into the spaghetti. I ate the crackers by themselves, and really enjoyed them as a little appetizer! Next time, I'll have to add a few to my four-way. My four-way came out in no time. By the way, for any out-of-towners trying Skyline for the first time, the "four-way" is the name for the chili dish that comes with spaghetti noodles, chili, cheese, and your choice of either raw onion or beans. I opted for the onions and highly recommend you have them added to your order too. The dish comes piled high with thin, stringy shreds of a bright yellow-orange cheese on diner-style tableware. Personally, the amount of cheese was a little overbearing for me, so I took a few forkfuls of it off. I wish I had taken more off, though. Once the cheese melts into the chili, it kind of congeals with the sauce. For me, the taste of the cheese got tiring, so I wish I had gone even lighter on the cheese from the get-go so I could taste more of the chili sauce. That's just my personal preference, however. I was really glad I got the onions, though, as they really elevate the four-way--in fact, I think they are almost a necessary addition. They come raw, but add fresh flavor and a necessary crunch to the dish. We also ordered funnel fries, which is just funnel cake fried into French fry shapes and topped with powdered sugar. I've definitely had softer, more pillowy funnel cakes before, but give me an order of these any day, and I'd be more than happy. And lastly, for those of you who love to try regional cuisines and local fare across the U.S., you may also really enjoy the sentimental atmosphere of Skyline Chili restaurants. During my dine-in visit, I saw high schoolers hanging out; older couples enjoying a meal; multiple generations of families getting a quick Saturday lunch... I used to frequent this particular skyline all the time! That all changed after my last visit. I came to pick up my takeout and as I waited for it, I watched the manager (who always seems to rub me the wrong way) pour a large pitcher of water into each of vat of chili. I didnt think much of it until I tasted my 3-way. Instead of feeling weighed down by this unhealthy meal, I felt quite hydrated from the liter of water in my chili. To put a cherry on top of this sundae, after asking for extra crackers, the manager scolded me as if i were an ignorant fool! Luckily, after this angry man walked away, the kind employee working the register gave me a few more packs of crackers and some kind words. I'm a 22yr customer of the Montgomery Skyline - and sad to say today was the WORST experience by far....chili was watered down (assuming this is to ensure the GM's bonus), buns not steamed as they should be, and noodles tasted overdone and of a new brand that's just NOT the same ! Oh yeah and it's like 65 degrees in there and I thought we saw meat hanging from the ceiling - seriously, if you wanna save money turn the AC off - it's like 73 outside. Service was a bright spot as Annie B. is one of their best people on-staff....witty, smart - she's going places !! What ever happened to Corky - we miss both his personality and outstanding service.....I understand he's still in the area and my thoughts & prayers go out to him !! Bubba was the next manager that we loved and our son who worked for him couldn't stop singing his praises. However, ever since 'new' ownership/management has come onboard it seems that cost-measures are being put above quality food service in a neighborhood favorite. Really, how much $$ do you need to cut when it's still $3 for a cheese coney ??? We used to go to the Montgomery Skyline Chili location across the street that was replaced by this location. We truly miss the old location, since the older gentlemen who worked there were a staple, and it did have a homey-er feel. Plus, our kids grew up going there....but we've been to this new location a few times and it's bigger, yet the taste and service are the same! We went the day after Thanksgiving, and the place was packed with a line out the door!! Thankfully, the line moved quickly - the manager and/or host paid close attention to this. Our table had been cleaned, though the chairs had not been wiped off (thus one less star). Our waitress was nice, fast, and efficient. She checked back just the right number of times, even though she was stretched to the max! One in our party was from out-of-town and had never had Skyline before. Cheese Coney, 3-Way...duh I love Skyline as a Cincinnati tradition and I always make a point of stopping in when I'm home from college on a break. The food is usually good although I can only have it every so often or I'll get sick of it, unlike many Cincinnatians who can have it every day and still love it. I've probably been to six or seven different locations here in Cincinnati, but the one I most often go to is the Montgomery one near Eddie Merlot's and I-275. Until its renovation a few years ago, the Montgomery Skyline wasn't that nice inside, but it was always a popular place to go for a bite to eat. Everyone liked the food and everyone liked the service. In Cincinnati, it's not about a Skyline restaurant being nice or new, it's just about...Skyline. The difference between the Montgomery Skyline and many others, though, is that it's not just a restaurant that serves Skyline food, but it's actually like a local hangout. If you go to or went to Sycamore High School, chances are you've been to Skyline on a Friday night after attending a home or away football game. It's open until about 11 on Fridays and although it's packed, it's always the place to be for both the students who watched from the stands and some of the players. Even on non-game days, area teenaged kids frequent this Skyline and most of the kids working go to Sycamore, Ursuline, or Moeller. While plenty of adults and families go too, it's still always been more than just a Skyline Chili restaurant to Sycamore kids, even if you only went once after a football game. Even though the restaurant is now physically nicer and has a pair of flat-screen televisions since its renovation and new ownership, nothing else has changed. The Montgomery Skyline still has terrific food, very quick service, and it's just a great time for people of all ages. read more

I hadn't eaten at a Skyline Chili for years, before eating at the one in Walnut Hills before a Red's game. So, one night when the BF and I were hungry, we decided to go to the Skyline that is close to home. I had forgotten all about it, since Skyline is not someplace I frequent. When I used to eat at Skyline more often, I would get the black beans & rice or a black bean burrito, but now they have vegetarian three ways, so that is my new go to item. Eating at Skyline reminds me of my childhood, because that is one of the places we used to go to "eat out." Plus, who doesn't love the little bowl of oyster crackers? It was late on a Saturday night when we went to Skyline. There was a decent amount of diners, but still plenty of room to find a seat. Service was prompt, including the food coming hot quickly. I like how the server asks if you would like a refill in a "to go" cup. That's a nice touch. I forgot how good and relatively inexpensive it was to eat at Skyline,, so we will definitely be back. The Montgomery Skyline is in a convenient location, provided you don't have to make a lefthand turn. If traffic isn't heavy, it's not a problem, but when it's busy on Montgomery Road, right turns are your friend. read more

Skyline is all over Cincinnati. Cincinnati Chili is one of my daughter-in-law's favorite comfort foods and she is a trained chef. Chili is one of the basic food groups to me. I've cooked in four big-time chili cook offs and will even put the canned stuff on a hot dog or fries when I'm having a chili dog/fry Jones. It's eh, different, not great. Not bad. Just different. Try it, you may like it. At least, if nothing else, you can strike it from your Bucket List. read more

I really am not sure what is going on at this place, but ever since they re-opened at the new location it has been absolutely atrocious. My dissatisfaction comes directly from the drive thru/carry-out end of the business (to be fair - when eating inside, the service and attention to detail is much better, but I rarely dine in). I live no more than a 1/4 mile from this location, and I refuse to go back. I have 5 people in my family, and on countless occasions I have requested simple stuff, like extra crackers and hot sauce with our carryout meal. Not only have I never received "extra" crackers, on more than one occasion I have literally received one bag for my entire order, again - for 5 people (approximately $40-$50 worth of food). Secondly, the chicken wraps that my wife and oldest daughter have ordered for years have recently been diminished in size from what was a massive well made product that was hard to finish to what now is a small, sad, depressing product that is similar in size (if not smaller) to that of the chilito. The cheese fries that used to be loaded to perfection with lovely, melted cheese (to the extent that you could not visibly see a french fry of any kind) have been re-imagined into an absolutely dreadful mound of soggy potato product with what I would generously describe as a "dusting" of cheese. Lastly, and the most upsetting fact of them all, is I can honestly say that out of the probably 10-15 times I have ordered through the new drive thru, I have had a higher percentage of times not receiving all of my order than I do actually receiving my order in it's entirety. I can't tell you how many times I've had to make multiple trips to retrieve all of my order. I have to assume all of these mishaps and unwanted changes is a result of new management, but I cannot be certain. What I am certain of is that all of my neighbors and business colleagues have all had similar and ongoing experiences at the new location's drive thru. Our once (sometimes twice) a week Skyline visit has now changed locations to the Fields Ertel/Home Depot area location and/or the Cornell Road location. Both of those locations have been nothing less than exceptional, and their carry-out service is top notch! I just can't wrap my head around how poorly the drive thru is operated and managed at Montgomery when they literally moved locations TO ADD THE DRIVE THRU!!! I'm sure I'll go back here one evening when I'm too tired to drive the extra 15-20 minutes to go to an alternative location, and I'm sure I'll end my experience, once again, with disappointment and no crackers. read more

I'm a born-and-raised Cincinnatian, and thus I love my Skyline chili. However, I was very disappointed in the service at this particular location. My grandma happened to be hospitalized at the nearby Bethesda North Hospital, and my family decided to take a break from the hospital to grab some comfort food. The waiter brought out our entire party's order, except for my aunt's chili cheese fries. He said they would be right out. The rest of our party was almost finished with our food, and her chili cheese fries had still not been served. We noticed that the table next to us, who had sat down quite later, had received their food, including an order of chili cheese fries. My aunt went up to the counter to inquire about her missing food. A man who we later found out was the manager pretty much gave her a death look. It was the scariest look you could have imagined, all for inquiring about a missing meal! She quickly sat down. The manager came over and almost threw her chili cheese fries down on the table. It was the worst Skyline experience I have ever had in my 28 years of life! Will not be back at this location. Terrible way to treat customers! The Montgomery Rd. location moved to a new space on the west side of Montgomery Rd. Much easier to get in and out of their parking lot and they now have a drive through. However they seem to have fewer parking spaces than they had across the street. The new room is much, much larger with lots of tables and an ample counter. It is a bit spartan and the temperature is usually too cold. The food however hasn't changed and the service is still quick, friendly and efficient. All Skyline addicts will be pleased! read more
