I was eager to write this review because Dan did such a wonderful job replacing 3 skylights that were leaking. He was courteous, kind, professional, and went above and beyond. In addition to the great work, being on time, and communicating well, I was impressed by how cleanly he worked. He taped off the area around the skylight completely and put down a tarp and left the area as clean as when he started. He also wore booties in the house without us asking. I had three companies come out to look at our skylight situation. Dan was able to come out the day I called him. Of the three, he was the only one to tell me what was really going on, and even suggested we only really needed to do half the project, but we ended up scheduling it all. I'm really glad we did! The tinting he suggested in our bathroom has significantly made a difference in the heat intake. The kitchen lights have also made a heat difference, too. They installed several skylights for me in 2014. They did an excellent job. Since the skylights are old, I may give them a call to check the seals. I would hate to deal with a leak. Normally I would have no problem getting up on the roof as it is a 2/12 pitch one story with the extension ladder permanently affixed to the soffit. I just don't feel like doing it right now. The roof and skylights needs cleaning as the roof is loaded with fir needles (not my trees). Can't hire a teenager, liability is a issue, wasn't in the past but seems everyone is looking for a fast buck, just watch the local and national news. read more

Much like the last reviewer, this review is long overdue. I like Dan and his work was great. If I'm to be honest, he was a little gruff and cranky with me when we first met, which I prefer to people who are acting, but he was a straight shooter and I happen to know that sort of things saves everybody time. We love the skylight he put in and he was a really good dude to my little toddler. Not that getting skylights put in is a regular occurrence , but if I did need another one I would call him in a second. We had a "freak" accident from a wind storm where we lost our skylight. Yes actually LOST it and rain was on the way. I called 3 contractors who install skylights and they said they couldn't get to my home for 2 months. Dan was ready to help the following day. We actually FOUND the skylight yet his demeanor and helpful personality really stuck with me. We will definitely be using Dan as we replace these skylights. This review is long overdue. When I had my roof replaced, I figured it was a good time to put a skylight in the bathroom as well. I had collected bids from several roofers, and two had recommended Dan and Skylights West. I checked Dan out on Angie's list, and invited him to bid. I was impressed with his attention to detail I have other skylights in the house, and he noticed that there were differences in their construction that I had overlooked. He was very good at helping me to get clear on exactly what I wanted. His bid was competitive, and he won the job. He coordinated his schedule with the roofers so that he could start the installation when they were doing the tearoff. I was impressed that he could get that thing framed and installed in a day, by himself. He also had to reroute the bathroom vent. He came back the following day to finish the drywall and to paint. It's been two years. The skylight works great, and the finish work and paint have also held up well - better than the last paint I used in the bathroom! Overall, Dan is very professional. He really knows his stuff, and pay attention to details. He asks the right questions. One of the best experiences I've ever had with a contractor. Highly recommended. read more

I highly recommend Dan from Skylights West based on my recent experience. Summary: Dan is honest, incredibly knowledgeable, represents multiple brands and types of skylights, stands behind his estimates/appointments, and provided me with a great quote for replacement of 7 skylights in my house. Working with him was absolute pleasure and I feel he helped to educate me to make the best decision based on my roof type and environment around the house. Detail: I needed to replace 7 skylights some of which (per Dan) were over 35 years old. I worked with 2 other companies before I found Skylights West and Dan. The 2 companies both gave me estimates, both said my skylights were custom, didn't explain new features in skylights options (tempered vs. laminated and domed vs. glass). Their estimates came in very pretty and HIGH round numbers which one company said they couldn't possibly break down for me as it came from manufacturer (because oh yes because manufacturers bid prices with labor included LOL). I knew I was being taken for a ride! Dan has been in the skylight business for 35+ years, he took the time to help to answer my questions and worked with me to figure out which skylights would be the best (technology has changed in the last 30 years to where Glass Skylights are 95% of the installs vs. domed ones which are made our of thick plastic). He was also very knowledgeable about warranties and type of skylights for different roof types. By the time he left, I knew I would give him my business even before seeing the estimate total. He also told me that only 1 of 7 skylights was custom and all others were in stock (they are the same manufacturer as I was quoted by the others)!!! Dan was on time for the estimate, prompt in giving me an estimate which had 4 different types of skylights/types/manufacturers quoted. To my surprise his estimate was less than HALF of the other businesses (let's call them price gougers for convenience). To add to the experience, Dan scheduled the install within 1 week for the 6 skylights that were available. I thanked Dan for his great work, for teaching me, and for being one of the few honest/good business owners. I called several roofing companies after a big storm when my skylights started leaking. Dan Marsh, of Skylights West, was the only one to return my phone call. I had to make a decision on repair as the leak was continuing to damage the dry wall. I didn't know anything about Dan but he was prompt and professional and his bid was fair. I took a leap of faith and kept my fingers crossed. He did a great job. He started and finished in one day, sealed the whole area off with plastic so there was no dust in the rest of the room, left everything very clean, and put in 2 good quality Velux skylights. He even repaired the dry wall that had been damaged. I have another skylight that was installed by Sunspaces (see review) that is leaking. I am calling Skylights West today to have that one replaced as well. read more

Our skylights started leaking and had heard good things about him from a friend. He came out and looked, said they needed to be replaced. I asked for an estimate and date for the job. He moaned and complained about how long my driveway was and with the trees he couldn't bring his truck up. Didn't know how he could do it. I started suggesting things like, "hand trucks", then I realized that I was trying to help him do his job. He said he would get back to us. Emailed him, he replied that he didn't remember who we were. I refreshed his memory and said he would get an estimate. Never heard. Went on the Velux website and finally got the bid from AAA skylights who came out and gave the bid on the spot. No whining. About a week ago, (several months later), first guy emails back, not with a bid, but to inquire if I still needed the work done. Told him that we went with someone else. He wanted to know who. I think it is rude to take the time on both ends to come out but not follow through. read more

Recently replaced our two 30-year-old skylights. Big improvement from our old skylights that dropped debris and dripped condensation during the winter. Now, no leaks, drips, or debris! Took Dan Marsh, Skylights West, about an hour to install. Dan's price was half that of another bid. All he does is replacements and installation of new skylights. He does not install regular windows. If you're thinking about skylights and want an experienced installer, don't put it off. He was booking a month out and will reschedule if it is raining. Highest recommendation. We used Skylights West to install two skylights in our home recently. I will say, without hesitation, that is was the best service experience I have ever had from someone doing work on my home. Dan provided a clear, reasonable estimate for the job. He was clear about his availability and showed up when he said he would. He was more careful than I have ever seen a workman be about keeping the surrounding area clean, using hanging plastic and tarps to protect surfaces (and people) from dust and debris. And most importantly his workmanship was unbelievably good. For one of the skylights he needed to match the installation of an existing skylight that was installed when the house was built (30+ years ago) and he did such a good job that no one who didn't know which was the original and which was the new one could tell the difference by looking at them (well, except the new one is a little cleaner :)). Dan went above and beyond in a variety of other little ways (removing an old ceiling fan for us that we had wanted down but didn't have the ladder to reach), for no extra charge, and also pointing out an issue with our roof that was unrelated to his work, but suggesting we get it checked out and giving us a pointer to someone who could help. No extra charge for any of this. Seriously, I can't say enough good things. We're already thinking about having him install two more now that we see what a huge difference the skylights make in the house. read more

Dan really came through for us. We noticed mold around an existing skylight a few days before New Years. I must have called 15-20 contractors and the few that called back noted that it would be at least 4-6 weeks. Dan called back immediately with a solid bid and did the installation about 8 days after our initial conversation including ordering a custom size skylight. His work was excellent and will be the only contractor we call in the future for skylight work. read more

I typically don't take the time to write reviews but Dan from Skylights West really deserves recognition. He installed several Solatube skylights for us about 4 years ago (lowest bid with most experience). We enjoyed the improved lighting and energy efficiency of the Solatubes. Very recently we noticed water damage around the edge of one of the Solatubes. I emailed Dan and he responded and came out the next day to take a look. He did a thorough inspection in the attic and on the roof. It became clear that the leak had nothing to do with the quality of the solatube or its installation. We concluded that this mysterious one-time leak is probably due to the aging and delaminating roofing material and the recent snowstorm (and longer than usual accumulation of snow). Dan shored up the roofing material around that Solatube which he was not obligated to do. Long story short: Dan really stands behind his excellent work. We had Dan Marsh from Skylights West (Redmond) come out to give us a bid on a new Skylight and a Velux room darkening solar skylight shade with remote for our 30ft tall skylight above our stairwell. Dan came out, and told us that our Skylight was fine, and that he could simply order the shade; saving us time and money. Installation was quick (maybe an hour) and Dan laid drop cloths so as not to leave a mess when cutting some drywall. We've had the shade installed for four months now, and it is dramatic the effect it has on our upstairs living area. The house is significantly cooler, and the AC doesn't need to work as hard to keep the upstairs cool. Great experience with Dan and Skylights West, great product from Velux. read more

Great experience with Skylights West. I had an older skylight break after, apparently, a bird dropped something on it (or else some random space junk fell on it). I was actually sitting in the room at the time and heard a loud crack, then watched the safety glass splinter. Of course that was on a rainy Sunday evening. Fortunately enough, it wasn't leaking, but I still wanted to have it replaced as soon as possible. On Monday morning I found Skylights West on Yelp and called Dan. Since it was a standard size, he had a high quality new one in stock and was able to get it installed that same afternoon.
