Was in DC with Pogibear for the weekend. Since we were staying in the DoubleTree decided to check out Skydome Lounge. We didn't have reservation so we had to wait few minutes to get seated. Other than the sides, there's nothing really in the menu that is vegan, so we only order some drinks and fries on the side. The drinks were yummy and enjoyed it. Still wish they have more vegan options. I really like that it's a rotating restaurant. Loved I was able admire DC in different views from the restaurant. My boyfriend didn't know that it was a rotating restaurant so it shocked him a little when he finally realized that our seat has moved. Noise level was ok so we were able to have conversation. I had really low expectations based on recent reviews. However, our experience just wasn't what others experienced. We had a 7:30P reservation and was seated immediately. I recommend making this reservation at least two weeks out so you can get a table on the outer rim next to the window. If it's last minute or or walk-in, it's unlikely you'll have window seat. Our water was brought right off. They brought what I assume is tap water. Someone else mentioned paying $10 for bottled water. Not sure what that was about. We didn't even have to ask for water. Shortly thereafter, the very nice server took our order. We were a quarter around when the salad came. My drink came almost immediately. The food is not prepared on the same level as the restaurant. Keep this in mind when you're ordering and waiting. Despite this, it didn't take long for the meals to arrive. My steak was not real hot but it was cooked as I asked and had good flavor. My husband ordered the chicken and it was juicy and cooked well. The fries were ok. The server was attentive. I had three drinks and never had to wait too long. We sat, ordered, ate and enjoyed the experience for one and a half cycles. That was around two hours. Make sure you ask for parking validation. You don't want to pay another $25 for parking. I recommend not bringing your young children. There is no kids menu. You will pay full price for an entree. It makes zero sense to bring children who have a taste for nuggies, grilled cheese or hot dog. The wagyu beef burger is $26. Overall, it was a good experience. I would go back. It has a good vibe. It is quite evidently a gimmick restaurant, but I must say it's successful on that level. The view from the top of this skyscraper overlooking the National Mall and the Pentagon is quite impressive (and of course, we don't allow buildings this tall in DC, so this is quite a different vibe you get over in Virginia). The floor slowly rotates around inside like a turntable while the windows stay put, so you'll slowly alternate between being in front of the bar and getting all the best views. If you're prone to vertigo, there's really no respite for you here. The food is pretty standard American; they offered one vegetarian entree. The quinoa stir fry had more vegetables than actual quinoa and a fairly basic soy ginger flavor, but it was good enough. I also sampled some goat cheese fritters accompanied by a pleasingly berry-flavored sauce. Fortunately, I wasn't in vertigo mode, and I was able to eat while enjoying the view. read more

Three stars is about right. It's a great location, but the value is just not there, in my opinion. My wife and I went on a Saturday night. We had a reservation for 5pm - right when it opened. We were seated as soon as we navigated the elevators through the hotel (there isn't a straight shot from parking or the lobby). I can't complain at all about the service. It was really, really good. I ordered the Rockfish, my wife ordered the Salmon. Both were just OK. Nothing spectacular. We also had the cheesecake for desert. It was good, but it didn't seem like it was made in house. Dare I say, it seemed like it was previously frozen. The meal just didn't blow my socks off. Prices...you can view the menu, but in general it was $10-15 for an appetizer, $8-10 for a soup or salad, $29-35 for an entree, steak a little more. Drinks were around $9 for a beer and $12-15 for a glass of wine. Parking was $24 for the 2 1/2 hours or so we spent there. You can ask your waiter/waitress to "validate" the ticket, but that only gives you $8 off. If you're after the view, it can't be beat! It's a little loud, when the restaurant is full, and it's not terribly intimate. But the views are great! It's worth a trip if you know what you're getting in to. read more

Stumbled upon Skydome while staying at the hotel. I didn't have reservations but they did accommodate us because we got there as soon as they opened and it was only a party of 2. The rotating view of the nation's capital is Beautiful and we got to watch the sunset which was amazing. It is on the pricier side which is to be expected for the view and it being a hotel restaurant. The drink I ordered was supposed to have a chargrilled pineapple. Apparently they didn't have it so they added a sliced lemon. Which was bummer when I asked the waiter about it he said they didn't have it. I asked why he didn't say anything and he just apologized seemed like English wasn't his first language. This drink was actually a mocktail I asked them to add Milagro Tequila. When I got the check they had added Casa Migos which added $14 to the $10 mocktail. I ordered the burger and my partner ordered the pork chop. The burger was fine pretty much what you expect. She said the pork chop tasted like it had a bit too much balsamic but was good. The service was fine. Again I was slightly annoyed with the waiter due to the drink situation but not the end of the world. Also they only have 1 restroom . Which has 2 urinals and a Stall and one person goes in at a time. As a woman the urinals are little off putting and weird for this to be an upscale restaurant inside of a Hilton. I think they should request a remodel but just my opinion. All in all not bad. You're going for the experience and views of rotating while having dinner which is was awesome. My husband and I celebrated my Birthday in the Skydome Restaurant a few days ago. It is a magical place. Great food, good service. Ricardo was wonderful and caring waiter. He was friendly and very attentive. The food was delicious and fresh. Atmosphere was good, glad that we made reservations in advance and had a table next to window. The food is amazing. We had the seared pork chop with truffle fries. The pork was tender and flavorful. Then we had the baked chicken and fries. I know it was absolutely delicious because my 7-year old never eats anything. Also, we had the shrimp and gnocchi with a soft, lightly sweet sauce that was to die for. After making a reservation (noted because this means the restaurant had our contact information) and driving about 45 minutes to give some visitors a different dinner experience, we were greeted at the host stand with the information that the kitchen was down and only drinks and certain appetizers and salads would be available. It was already 7:45 and now we were in Crystal City on a Friday night...nothing to do but make it work.... Supposedly this place was recently renovated but quite frankly still feels like a time warp to the 80s/90s. We ordered a charcuterie board, hummus, a pizza, and a few salads. Everything was disappointing. The charcuterie board was fine, but pricey for the 3 little slices of cheese, a few slices of salami and some nuts. The pizza was equal to a DiGiorno. The burrata salad was a giant ball of burrata, a few halved tomatoes, a couple beets and barely any greens (like 8 pieces of arugula). The drinks (first round comped for the inconvenience of no kitchen which was nice) were fine. Nothing special. The service from our server was mediocre at best. And given the circumstances about 1/2 the tables were full and there seemed to be sufficient servers so I don't think that table load was a factor. Much of the view is of hotel rooms and apartments, but the distant glimpse of some of the landmarks was nice. Decided to come to Skydome with a group of friends to celebrate one of their birthdays and I'm sad to say that we should've skipped this part in our Friday-night-out agenda. Perhaps the only thing I can say that was enjoyable was the revolving city views (which are amazing I might add!), but our ohh's and ahh's quickly wore off as our stomachs growled in anticipation for food. The restaurant wasn't even close to being packed and yet we couldn't seem to understand why the kitchen was so slow. To top it off once our semi-warm food finally arrived, it wasn't anything to write home to Mom about. The lobster rolls I ordered were ok and the "garlic-parmesan" fries (that came out cold to which I had to send back for hot orders) were laughable. There was hardly any garlic and/or parmesan on them! Just when I thought all hope was lost, I tried the fried Brussels Sprouts and they were (surprisingly) really good! I'm a sucker for Brussels Sprouts and these, although they could've came to our table a little hotter, were flavorful and fried to perfection! Oh, be prepared to pay $34 for parking if you plan on visiting Skydome. Sadly, I wont be returning. read more

Hubby wanted to surprise me for Christmas as he's heard about this place since high school in the 80s!! He made rez for 7pm. We showed up at 6:15pm. Host said we have to wait downstairs. I said there's 5 seats at the "bar" but only 2 are taken we can have a drink while we wait. He actually said NO, you cannot wait at the bar you have to wait downstairs. WOW! Oh, when we came back we discovered there is NO dress code. We saw flip-flops and pajamas being worn by patrons. Unbelievable! We were seated at 6:55pm. Our server, Rupayan, didn't bother to show up until 7:21! When we placed our drink orders we had to call him back because we wanted to put in our appetizer order. He actually walked off while we were talking to him! Rupayan was extremely disappointing. Never once spoke to ME, kept looking at hubby. When I spoke he talked over me, WOW! Such disrespect! I'm a bartender, I would NEVER treat a patron or someone who paid my salary this way. The Lobster rolls were good, the micro cilantro gave it the right pizazz; problem there was literally ONE piece per "roll." Also it was Texas toast they used as the "roll." Very greasy and butter flavored, but difficult to eat. You had to tilt it sideways to get into your mouth which meant half the topping fell off and onto your plate. Hubby loves brussels sprouts and theirs said it was Crispy Brussels Sprouts with preserved lemon, fresno chili, 4 year balsamic, basil, tasted pie nut, pecorino for $10. What a joke! The sprouts were still RAW on the inside, they were mushy on the outside, the preserved lemon were HUGE strips as big as the chilis. I have no idea where the balsamic was because it was a greasy tasteless oozing mess on the plate. Not a piece of basil or a single pine nut, and if that was pecorino on two of the sprouts, someone is replacing it with Kraft canister parm because it was tasteless and dry. Absolutely NO salt on sprouts or even the table to help the greasyness of the sprouts. The menu was the most uninspiring offering I've encountered in the DC area. RED FLAG ONE! The rockfish was OVERCOOKED and dry, as you can see from the picture the "crab gratin" is just barely a teaspoon of bland crabmeat. By definition crab gratin is "decadent concoction of crab meat and cheeses baked to perfection and topped with breadcrumbs. There was NO cheese or breadcrumbs and decadent is the antithesis of what he was served! It was dry, bland and salt-less. The "fingerling coins" were a greasy mess. You get more chocolate gelt at Hanukkah then was offered on this plate! There were NO potatoes UNDER the fish so there were about 10-15 nickle shaped potatoes. NOTHING in the 'seafood & entrees' was appealing so I got the Wedge salad. Another disappointing dish. Now a wedge is just that a head of lettuce cut into wedges with dressing, bleu cheese, bacon bits and croutons drizzled on it. I tried taking a picture but got knocked by out "wonderful" server and just wanted to leave this disaster of a restaurant. The salad looked like someone put it in a bag and shook it mercilessly and dumped on my plate. The dressing was barely there, the "garlic croutons" was bland, unseasoned old bread rolls. Yes there was a few pieces of bacon and bleu cheese but you can get better at Olive Garden! What really set me off was when we got the bill THEY assumed a 20% gratuity! FOR WHAT? A bland, greasy tasteless attempt at food or the nonexistent server who NEVER once came and checked on us. We did move a table over to be at the window of the moving restaurant. We asked a passing server who actually said you're not my table. WOW!! So much for team work. I moved and when the hubby finally SAW Rupayan he told he we moved, Rupayan asked if we had rez? Yes, then you're allowed to. WOW! So when we came in at 6:55 the place was almost empty as was when we left at 8:46! Almost 2 HOURS wasted on Christmas! The other thing that was so wrong and a Health Code VIOLATION!!! I asked for a TOGO box, the idiot brought me a piece of aluminum foil! Umm, now that's "safe food handling." In Arlington County, ALL servers are required to take a Food Safety Course. Oh and after I took the YELP check in discount I was told the no longer honor it by Rupayan. He rushed us to order, got my sister's order incorrect, and added a 15% gratuity to our bill for $71 tip. He didn't deserve $20 of any amount from the party. Very family friendly! Food is pricy as others mentioned but it is delish and portions were bigger that I expected based on other reviews. The steak was amazing. Kid friendly was the best part for me. I was very happy that kids were welcomed since this a "lounge". I had a 6yo, 4yo, and newborn in a stroller on xmas day. The staff went out of their way to keep them happy as well. Pics don't do the view justice. We went at sunset and had a beautiful dusky view the first hour and a beautiful nighttime view the second hour. Will be going back soon. read more

NOTE: This rating is largely driven by a facet of business that Skydome can easily fix. I'm happy to update this rating once it becomes apparent that the issue has been fixed (I.e., working with Yelp, insert fine print on the coupon so that the terms are clear), and it's clear that no other customers have to go through the same trouble that I did. I bought specially priced tickets (the total bill at the end of the night with add-ons came to roughly $400) for the Skydome on Independence Day. I thought it would be nice to treat my companion to a nice spread for dinner and a nice venue from which to watch the fireworks over the District. On Thursday, July 4, I checked in at the Skydome in Arlington, VA. I was presented with a 20% off Yelp coupon; however, when I tried to use it, the staff wouldn't honor the coupon/deal. They stated, "I don't think you can use that as today is a holiday." There was no fine print regarding the use of the coupon other than it only applies to the total, minus alcohol. I tried contacting management at the Skydome, and I was told the same thing as before (at least the message was consistent between staff and management). When I contacted Yelp, I was told they have no control over how the business operates. In the end, I waited over a month for this situation to be resolved. Ultimately, AmEx refunded me the 20%, and I'm rather sure that AmEx paid for the difference out of their pocket. Situations like this really have the potential to alienate customers or reinforce loyalty. Ultimately, I don't think I'll go back to Skydome--even if the coupon is corrected and I update my rating to reflect the rest of my experience. It's really a shame as the spread offered for dinner was quite nice, the servers were polite and attentive, and the venue was unique and specially suited for a special event like this... I will, however, continue to patronize companies like AmEx that take care of their customers. read more

This is certainly a unique restaurant experience. The floor rotates a full 360 to get full panoramic views of DC and Arlington. I went around sundown and it was beautiful. It would probably be even more pretty at night. The ambience could use a little bit of the chairs and menu were basic, if I would consider this a chic restaurant. The service was very fast and our waiter was very attentive. For the price, the food was just OK. Our crabcake had small shells in it and soda crab dip. The view is really the best part about this place. The food is ok. The description of the steamed pork buns seemed like it would be closer to a potsticker, but they were more like doughy tacos. Awful. The Brussels sprouts shared plate was really terrible, and I'm a big fan of them. It seems like the menu designer was reaching too high and missed the mark. I read 30 reviews before deciding on a commitment for a reservation, but I went anyway. Most were VERY accurate . . the view is spectacular! The food is subpar and very overpriced for what you get ($28 hamburger). My wife and I both ordered a glass of sangria. It came in a small 12 oz glass, mostly ice and 1/2 full of sangria; maybe 5 oz of sangria = $15 / glass. My tab for 4 people = $200.00. Bottom line, don't go expecting a wonderful meal. Go for the view. You'll need to ask for directions on how to reach the restaurant. Take main elevator if you can find it to 14th Fl. . . change elevator on 14th; take separate elevator to the 15th (there are NO signs giving directions). A little bit of professional ingenuity and this place would be awesome. I won't return. read more

Bread basket isnt nearly enough for the hummus. So we asked for one more basket and it took forever to come out. 2) they have NO KIDS MENU! they barely have any kid friendly food. We ordered pizza without the topping that they have on the many aka cheese pizza. The crust is too thick and they put cilantro on it which adds weird flavor for a kid. 3) they asked how we would like the pork cooked. It's not a steak! Pork needs to be cooked well done. Pork is very dry and without the sauce that they had on the side, it is not appetizing. 4) salmon is ok but it was disappointing to have to choose between fries or sweet potato fries as a side. I couldn't pick from the other side dishes or greens. 5) bottle water is $10, so make sure to ask for tap water if you want free water. We didn't know and we paid. They didn't tell us and we should've asked. 6) Overall, I would go for the view and drinks. But never for the food because all the food we got was mediocre and the kitchen is very slow to push out food. 7) don't forget to get your parking validation pass as 2 hours is free otherwise, you'll end up paying $25! read more

I'm still reeling at the experience to be honest. Think the 70's classic film the towering inferno, twinned with the tongue in cheek style of an Austin Powers movie along with a Faulty Towers service ethic and you're not even close. The room itself is basic, old fashioned and uninspiring. The staff( except for our waiter who was very nice) really need to reevaluate their careers, because not one of them should be customer facing. The food was basic ok, but not worth the money by any stretch of the imagination. The noise level was like being at a sporting event, I felt very sorry for anyone trying to have a romantic evening. The whole point of the restaurant Is that you get good sprawling views of DC.. let me save you the bother... go up in the elevator, walk to the end of one of the corridors and look out, take your pictures then leave and go to a decent place in town. While I am waiting I realize it's very loud. Turns out it is a happy hour crowd and the place is trying to be both high end restaurant and bar scene hot spot. Unfortunately the menu said it was a crab soup and I earnestly tried find some meat that I would have gladly eaten. Given the price and the name - there needed to be more crab. When the entree comes the fish was delicious. Unfortunately it was a tiny portion with no sides other that some art nouveau salad with bizarre bitter greens that I couldn't eat. So I am now finished with my meal and I haven't even completed one rotation. The view was spectacular. We had two different drinks (sunset sipper and lemon drop) made with two different liquors and they tasted exactly the same bitter and sour. I had the salmon which was bland no seasoning at all and the fries the exact same. My bf had the burger which we asked no cheese and bacon...they proceed to bring it out with cheese so he had to send it back and then they brought it back completely plain when there were several other pieces included. Skydome Lounge is located in the doubletree hotel so it has a very captive audience. It is also the only rotating restaurant between DC and Atlanta so that is something to note. I'd never been to a rotating restaurant and my husband, having been to one in Ft. Lauderdale and Kansas City -both many years ago when he lived in those cities- thought it would be a cool experience for me. My mom, in town for the holidays, offered to babysit, and when I couldn't find last minute reservations at anyplace I've really wanted to try, I acquiesced to the Skydome. Reservations were easy on opentable and not needed on Friday evening. We arrived promptly on time and went up to floor 14 for the restaurant. Protip: walk all the way to the back elevators on the L level and go up to floor 14 then transfer to take an elevator to the Skydome. We were seated immediately and greeted shortly after. As I'm sure everyone can foresee, you are paying for the view not the food or drinks. My husband had a glass of Prosecco and I had an IPA (oh how I've missed them!)- both $9. Cheap for the Prosecco but a tad pricey for the beer. The food was slightly better than expected although overpriced. Another BIG tip- YELP has a 20% off checkin special so take advantage ! It does not include alcohol though. We started with the fried goat cheese- deliciously creamy fried balls with vanilla-black pepper honey and walnuts. This was actually really tasty and I highly recommend! For entrees, I ordered an appetizer- the lobster roll slider bites- and my husband chose the Kobe burger. Advertised as butter poached lobster,celery slaw, and fingerling potato chips, the description was a tad misleading. There was a half of a chip on each of the 4 pieces of lobster roll. Basically, this was a singular roll cut in four pieces, served cold. It was pretty flavorless and definitely not filling. My husbands burger was much better- a double patty with cheddar shallot sauce and served with herb fries. The fries were definitely not herbed and were of the frozen variety. The burger meat was tender enough though. Again, the view is the main draw here, not the food. I'd recommend visiting on a clear day of course; we had one rotation around (45 mins) before it was so foggy and we couldn't see anything. I probably would only return for the phenomenon of the rotating restaurant but otherwise I'd pass and choose a higher quality place. read more

Took my mom for her bday. Food was ok, not many options at all, and the few that were offered all came with fries no substitute, and they were out of all pizzas. Service was cool, but no one cleaned their hands. Bottles of water $$$$. Food $$$$. Wonderful view. This will be my first and last time. I didn't have drinks, so no comments on them. Came here for the second time and I enjoy the view and the ability to see different angles. But in reality after the initial awe, you tend to loose track and get caught up with your company or meal. I feel like giving lower stars only because I don't think the service, food, or anything support the high prices of the restaurant. I went with pretty much the same meal as last time, 8oz Filet medium and it was good. They didn't offer a steak knife or pepper/salt, had to request. The wine pours are small at 5oz, with no larger options. The glasses they actually use are a bit small and dainty. I'm the end, you are literally paying for the view...and if you've seen it before, simply may not be worth it again. read more
