Monroe Oktoberfest - Gutes Essen Haus restaurant: Pork schnitzel, rotkohl, and German potato salad.

Monroe Oktoberfest

From information on their website, this is the first year for the Monroe Oktoberfest and they…read morecertainly did a nice job. The festival is held at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds. Parking is free, but there is an admission fee. The activities are held indoors, so bad weather (like today) is not a problem. However, the building is a long walk from the parking area and there was no signage to guide fair goers to the entrance or venue. The ticket booths are at the entrance of the building. Inside, there is plenty of room and several long rows of banquet tables. The food offerings were not extensive and there was not much to choose from in the way of authentic German fare (ie: German "gyros", corn dogs, curly fries, etc...) which was disappointing. We finally found a booth that offered pork schnitzel and bratwurst which were both okay. (In looking at other Oktoberfests in the area, the names of the same restaurants appear...thinking this is a "pre-packaged" Oktoberfest that just travels to various venues....seen one, seen 'em all.) The entertainment was pleasant: a German band replete with lederhosen-wearing musicians, dancers, and bell ringers. There is plenty to do for the children, pumpkin painting, games, and the band even lets them join in the bell ringing. And the addition of Seattle actress/comedienne, Manuala Horn http://manuelahorn.com/ was fun...a little surreal performance art amid the traditional entertainment. There were also a few booths of German knickknacks and cookies to buy. This was a good start to a new event. I hope that as time goes on, organizers will consider having more homemade fare (ie, getting more community members, churches, German clubs, etc. involved) and increase the signage for newcomers. There was plenty of parking right next to the building, but it was fenced off and locked....puzzling...

This is such a great u-pick farm! First time coming here after searching for an organic farm in the…read morearea. There were a few results but we decided to come here first and boy did we make the right choice. Directions to here was straight forward and plenty of parking either on their lot or street parking. U-pick started at 9am and we got there around 9:30. There were already about 20-30 families there. We were wondering if there would still be ripe strawberries left since they have been opened the previous 3 days already as well and the lot wasn't very big. But within a short of amount of time, we have got some amazing strawberries! We tasted some and they were so delicious and sweet. Will visit again for sure!!! Note: Check their facebook page to verify the hours

I agree with the other Yelpers that the strawberries were juicy and delicious. This was our first…read morevisit to this farm and we were shocked by the amount of weeds! More than half of the field was covered in weeds to the point where you couldn't find the path between the strawberries. As a result, many of the berries were stepped on and plants trampled. There were some tall prickly weeds that can easily scratch you if you were not careful. While we understand some weeds are expected in an organic farm, but this was way out of control. We had to work really hard at finding good ripe berries amongst the camouflage. It took two adults over an hour to pick 5 lbs. We might try the other organic farm we drove by on the way to Bolles next year. Their field appeared to have been better taken cared of.

This farm is so much fun to come and pick berries yourself! I've picked marionberries, strawberries…read moreand raspberries within the last year and had a blast each and every time. The berries are fresh and so beautifully grown. The people are so friendly, and they have two very sweet dogs. I would have reviewed sooner had I known they had a Yelp! This is a great place to bring a date, or to pick with family and friends. What a perfect summer activity :)

This is a small little farm in Monroe. When we went (7/14/18), there were Marion berries and…read moreblueberries available for picking. Everything here is organic which is awesome. Blueberries were $3.50 a pound. There's also a small play structure for kids, free parking, and they also provide baskets and cardboard boxes for blueberry picking. There are a couple downsides. They're actually aren't that many blueberry bushes. There probably are 5 to 6 rows each about 100 yards and length of blueberry bushes and that's it. In the aisles for marionberries (and even blueberries, but to a lesser extent), the ground is overgrown with weeds which makes it hard to walk especially if you have young kids. But I guess that's what happens when the farm is organic. Also we picked 4 1/4 (maybe even 4 1/8) pounds of blueberries and we were charged for 4 1/2 pounds. Not a huge deal given how many blueberries my kids ate while we picked, but would've been nice to be rounded down. The blueberries we picked also were not super sweet, but I think some of the blueberry varieties are a bit sweeter... just call before you go to find out what varietal is available for picking.
