This VikingFest occurs yearly in May and involves the entire town. The people are kind and the foods are fabulous. We tried 4 different meat pies and can't tell you which we liked best! It was set up perfectly with the carnival and rides set away from the entertainment, craft, and food vendors that were located near the marina, which kept the lines down. We even attended the Lion's fundraiser Pancake Breakfast on Sunday! It was great. Yummy pancakes, eggs, sausage, etc.! All breakfast funds are going towards the Lion's scholarship. (I was a recipient back when I attended college in the Dark Ages, so please help out this group if/when you can!) Highly recommend this festival that runs Friday afternoon through Sunday.

Not only do you get to explore all the little shops in downtown Poulsbo, there are many little vendors set up along the waterfront. They range from the same old people that show up at every festival in Kitsap to people specializing in things like drinking horns. They have a carnival ride area that runs throughout the weekend. On Saturday during the festival there is a parade that is a lot of fun to watch. The "vikings" may not be the most authentic, but it is a lot of fun. There is a viking village where you can learn from the people that staff it and are set up in tents and wearing traditional clothing. The stage is filled with all sorts of entertainment throughout the weekend.

But my visit here the past weekend wasn't for that. It was for the Oddmall which was held here. It seems like lots of other special events occur when the fair is happening here. The Oddmall is an eclectic assortment of merchants all under one roof primarily made up of artists, glass makers, exotic taxidermy, painters and merchandise that has been repurposed. There is a lot of items here that would appeal to someone of a Gothic nature or retro kitsch type of fare. I loved the repurposed lamps that were here and I was highly intrigued by the exotic taxidermy. I bought a small painting that I was thrilled with while Steve purchased some home made beard oil. I walked up the aisles of the odd mall several different times and each and every time I saw something new that escaped my eyes previously so it definitely kept my interest going. A really fun event and this was my second time to an Oddmall as I went to one in Tacoma years ago and had a blast there as well!

This is the first year I've got in many, many years and I'm glad that I did. Like any other festival that shuts down a large area, the parking is pretty crazy. I got there nice and early to find a good spot and walked about a mile. Overall good selection of vendors! Most of them were artisanal and not something you can buy from a direct-from-China shop. The food court had a lot of great options, and, of course the Kiwanis salmon BBQ. They also had a large field section with games for the kiddos and a water dog competition! There were lots of salmon going through the ladder, so that was nice to watch for awhile. Overall Salmon Days is a great festival to get out and do something a little different!

This fair is awesome!…read more It's got art of all kinds. Paintings, pottery, jewelry, that awesome photography on metal so the colors stand out, etc. I remember a stall with thin pieces of wood that were carved into things like trees and mountains. They were layered into a beautiful scene, then framed as if it were a painting. Very unique! Something else that I find to be a really charming detail is that each walkway is labeled with a road sign that is named after famous artists. For example, you can tell someone to walk down "Van Gogh" to find a specific stall. It's free admission. There are food trucks, a playground, a beer garden, live music, outdoor AND indoor art displays (it's fun exploring the building)... truly a fun day for art lovers.

It had so many different types of art and everything was professionally rendered by extremely talented artists who are at the top of their art form. I love paintings, sketchings, artfully taken photography and jewelry, and this festival didn't disappoint. It was a challenge controlling myself, but I think I did, however, this is a place that I could easily and happily lose control There was a lot more than wall art. There was; ceramics, clothing, footwear, sculpture in several mediums, yard art, musical instruments and music for sale. It's a cornucopia of juried, diverse, fine art. This isn't a street fair and I'm happy that they got the street fair type vendors out of there. Every year I go and every year I find multiple items that I'd like to take home, this year would've broken the bank if I had just let myself go, but still, I'm happy with my purchases and I'll be back next year.

As I shop, not just walk, it usually takes me about 2 to 3 hours to go through the entire fair. This year I purchased an adorable metal burro for my veg garden, a sign for my tomato garden, some dip mixes for vegetables and a few assorted specialty mustards. There is so much more there though: Jewelry, pottery, soaps, kids clothes, specialty clothes, art, photography, water colors, garden accoutrements, bubble makers, food, face painting, balloons, chocolate covered strawberries - yum! and so much more. This year the weather was okay. It wasn't ideal (that would be temps in the 70's) but it didn't rain, and on Sunday it was actually sunny. I do remember a few years ago though when they got snow, I didn't go that year, did anyone? So beware of the weather, you never know this time of year what you're going to get. There are numerous blocks nearby closed for the event, so traffic backs up with cars headed for the event, which is even more difficult as cars headed to see the actual tulips. The street fair is pretty typical of the ones you find in Western Washington. Reminds me of the festivals in the University District and West Seattle. There are tons of vendors, as well as brick and mortar businesses in the area participating. If you are traveling to Mount Vernon to see tulips, you might as well check out the street fair as well. Though I would do some research to figure out your itinerary given the traffic in Mount Vernon during tulip season.

I truly felt like I travelled back in time. Things to know: Check their website for hours/events. We went on a Sunday to one of their summer village days which take place from 12pm - 5pm. Bring cash!! They only take cash or check, this also applies to their dining establishment Bors Hede. Interact and ask questions! It's a living history museum and the villagers are both knowledgeable and so friendly! Village Summer Day entrance fee: $5 We came in a group of 4 around 3pm and wish we had slightly a bit more time because they closed the gift shop before we were able to visit it! :( That's ok though. Don't forget to say hi to Mabel the sheep! So cute! We made reservations for 5:30pm after our Village Day but if you can just make it at 5pm it's better because you won't have to awkwardly wait in the closed village waiting for your turn to be called. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience here! Sir Rodger was so friendly and such an adorable soul! He was the one to welcome us, host us at Bors hede and he also manages the phone calls for reservations.
