There were three major issues within the school: a lack of communication, inappropriate levels of supervision, and inappropriate discipline. No details, photos, or progress is shared about the students, outside of two parent teacher conferences. The school administrator, who has little engagement with the children, does most of the talking. She frequently interrupted teachers as they were sharing their observations. The "monthly" school newsletter was sent infrequently and it was highly apparent that the newsletter was simply copied from the previous year (dates and teacher names were incorrect on multiple occasions). When asking for updates, we received short, curt replies. On two occasions, I picked up our daughter to only find one teacher with the class. On a third occasion, there was only one teacher and she was inside while the students were outside. Not only is this incredibly dangerous, but it goes against the very philosophy we signed up for. The school administrator mentioned several times that there are three teachers in the classroom--most days there were two. Some days there was only one. One student in the class was having behavioral issues. She was regularly sent outside alone as a punishment and was disciplined loudly. This greatly upset our daughter and other kids in the classroom. Our daughter stopped asking to go to school after these incidents. When we toured the school, the administrator told us the class had weekly Spanish and music lessons. These were not provided once during the school year. The accountant for the school is disorganized. We received multiple invoices for tuition that was already paid. As a parent, I have zero time to be sorting through previously cashed checks. The school does not accept any digital payments or direct, so be prepared to deal with the hassle of paper checks. The school is a very sweet space. It's a two room house with lots of character. Unfortunately, the school administrator seems cold, checked out, and unwilling to provide what is advertised.

Both are student athletes, which requires a very flexible schedule to deal with all of the travel to events and tournaments. Their teachers genuinely cared about them. Chrysalis does a great job of placing the students with teachers that can allow them to see their potential. My kids speak highly about all of their teachers. My oldest is very academic and the flexible pace of Chrysalis provided her with a vehicle to move at an accelerated pace through the subject matter that interested her the most. She felt very prepared for college and is working on a master's degree currently. My son's focus is soccer, not academics, but he's warmed up to school, because of the Chrysalis model, and feels as confident as ever to enter college and succeed. Not to trash the public school education, I was a product of it and enjoyed it, but I don't believe they would have been able to cope with high school in the same way due to their set of circumstances.

The school knowingly accepts students with special needs but lacks the training or experience to deal with situations that arise as a result of those disabilities. My son has anxiety and high-functioning autism. In the first 2 weeks of school, he experienced a consistently disorganized educational experience. Class schedules changed regularly, without much notice. His teachers would change, also without much notice. My son's calendar would often be missing the invites for the remote class. I would have to call the school multiple times a day to get the meeting links. Teachers would be late to class (which are a short 30 minutes). The school regularly assured us of their experience with special needs children, yet continued to engage in highly triggering behaviors. When my son's disability manifested by missing some classes and cursing (once) in an email to a teacher, they used it as an opportunity to kick him out of the school. The real issue was that they were dealing with a staffing shortage and my son's disability presented an opportunity for them to solve for a business challenge. They tried to spin my son's behavior as a flagrant violation. A school that is intolerant of the messiness of children should re-examine whether they should be in the business of education. A school that lacks empathy for children with disabilities, yet knowingly accepts them and is surprised when the disability manifests is really just an unethical, for-profit business. Chrysalis does a good job of marketing, but be very careful about sending your children here. The narrative of personalized education and helping children that are struggling is simply not true. The narrative is appealing for parents who are looking for a school they can partner with, but don't be misled by the marketing.

*** Review for 3-day beginner motorcycle permit course ***…read more Let me begin by saying that Sherry Jennings and Sean Grimm are absolutely excellent instructors; you can really tell they care about keeping you safe. Sherry's enthusiasm and passion for motorcycling and teaching were amazing. She has a very vibrant way of teaching that easily holds your attention. Both Sherry and Sean were super helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. They WANT you to succeed and they're beyond great at what they do. That being said, it would be nice if the class sizes could be smaller. Our class was 16 riders. On the range, we had both instructors present, but I felt like if there had been fewer riders, there would have been more room for individualized help and feedback. I want to be very clear that this is a critique of the WMST class itself and NOT a fault of the instructors in any way--the instructors truly did their absolute best to help everyone and spent extra time with the people who needed it most while still being attentive to everyone. Having more time on the range would also be helpful for nailing skills down. The bikes seemed to be well-maintained (take with a grain of salt since I only rode two). I liked that we got to pick what style of bike we wanted to ride. I felt extremely lucky with my classmates; everyone was super kind and supportive of each other, which was awesome! Honestly, a big highlight of this experience for me was the other wonderful people taking the course alongside me--to say they were great would be an understatement. *** End of review, advice below *** I have literally zero experience with motorcycles and was lucky enough to pass my permit exams first try. FOR ALL MY FELLOW COMPLETE BEGINNERS, PLEASE TAKE MY ADVICE!! This is a whole new skill you're learning and you absolutely need to set yourself up for success! *Your course includes the Champ U NEW RIDER online course, at the BARE MINIMUM you need to complete the portions outlined in the email. But don't stop there. COMPLETE THE WHOLE ENTIRE ONLINE COURSE **BEFORE** YOUR IN-PERSON COURSE! You really need to set yourself up for success with the book learning, especially if you don't have access to practice with a motorcycle. Even if you have previous experience, I would still recommend completing the entire online course because you want any misconceptions corrected before they possibly hurt you. The online course covers a lot of great stuff, there's really no reason not to do it (it's free!). Plan ahead and start it early because it takes a while to get through everything, but this is a lifelong skill and I promise you it's totally worth it! *ENGAGE IN CLASSROOM DISCUSSIONS!!! PAY ATTENTION DURING CLASSROOM PORTIONS! Show the instructors that you are listening by engaging with the discussions! IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, ASK! The instructors are super friendly and are more than happy to explain anything you're wondering about. *Watch videos of the permit test on YouTube so you know what to expect *Take deep breaths and try to relax! Watch what everyone else is doing and see how everybody is making mistakes. IT'S OK! That's part of learning! It helps your confidence when you realize that pretty much everyone else is struggling and learning too! If you don't pass the first time, don't beat yourself up. This is difficult and there's a LOT to process. You can know what you need to do and still panic under the pressure of a test. Just do your best and don't give up. Stay safe!

A friend wanted to get his motorcycle license so I decided to take the class with him. We took the…read more3 day "Learn to Ride" class with WMST in Auburn. This class is the first of two classes to get the motorcycle endorsement. Passing the Learn to Ride class gives you the permit, allowing you to legally ride and practice riding for six months but with some restrictions (not riding with other passengers or at night among other things). Passing the returning rider course gives you the actual endorsement that does not have any restrictions. The Auburn classroom location is next to the Johnny Rocket's and across the Dave & Buster's at the Outlet Collection Mall. Day 1 was on Friday evening and consisted of a couple of hours of learning safety rules, myths vs facts, tips, and laws of riding motorcycles in the classroom. Day 2 started off on the range where we rode the motorcycles provided by the class and learned the basics of riding. In the afternoon, we went back to the classroom to learn the rest of the material and then took the written test. Day 3 was on the range where we continued practicing our riding abilities and then ended with the riding exam. The written exam consisted of 50 multiple choice questions (mostly common sense questions) and you need an 80% to pass. The riding exam consisted of 5 riding exercises to test basic riding abilities. Now onto the class itself: it is meant for beginners and those with no motorcycle riding experience, but the instructors moved quickly and skipped a couple of things that I thought would've been important to tell students in case they have no knowledge about motorcycles. Extremely simple things like how to know if a bike is too big for you, how to shift gears, and how to properly hold the handles without getting wrist pain. I learned a good amount of the basics from asking other riders because our instructors didn't teach us for whatever reason. It's a class where they let you go and figure things out on your own and they jump in when you need it. I like that but I'd also appreciate knowing how to do some things to help accelerate our learning. At some points the instructor was more interested in telling jokes than actually teaching the class which wasn't ideal. I never planned on buying a motorcycle or riding one on the road, but I wanted to try something new and this was an educational class that got me out of my comfort zone. I passed both exams which I'm happy about but the class itself wasn't the best experience. The instructors were interesting characters but not the best educators. Some other things I wish I would've known: - You can use hiking boots as your riding boots. This would've prevented me from buying motorcycle boots just for the course that I won't use again. - They have helmets that you can borrow if you don't have one. Again, I bought a helmet just for the course. - Read the motorcycle operating manual before the class so terminology is not new to you if you're not familiar with riding.

New Song Academy was a newer operation at the time of my initial tour and they had only been open for two or three years. So, I was a little nervous at first. However, two years later after returning from work from the pandemic shut down, the director, Susan still remembered me and my son. She is always very responsive and kind. She and all of the teachers are passionate about what they do and offer a loving and enriching environment for the children. All of the teachers are experienced and educated childcare professionals. They post a reliable food menu along with a new curriculum every month that they ACTUALLY follow. Some places don't always follow through with what they say they do. This place does! The classrooms are clean and organized with a wide variety of books and toys to choose from. They provide a structured schedule which gives the kids comfort. The teachers are very much in charge of the classroom without yelling or scolding. I have yet to witness an out of control environment no matter what time I show up. No running around screaming and crying kids in the corner here. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it happens but I haven't seen it. They have a fenced outdoor playground with age appropriate play equipment. Sectioned for different age groups. Even a covered outdoor play area. The kids go outside every day. The teachers watch them closely as they play. They offer healthy food options from a variety of cultures. My son was an extremely picky eater before he started here and now he will try just about anything. We have a true community among the other families and because they are a Christian based school, we even got to see a Christmas performance with all of the children this year! They encourage the parents to volunteer to deepen that sense of community. I find this transparency very reassuring. They are focused on academics and getting the kids kindergarten ready. My son loves this school, his friends and all of his teachers! If you have been searching for quality childcare for an affordable price, this is it. At the heart of New Song Academy and its teachers, there's a passion to "provide" for those precious children. Providing safe place and wonderful time for children to cherish and remember (in their life as young kids and even as grownups in the future) is what's happening at New Song Academy.
