*** Review for 3-day beginner motorcycle permit course *** Let me begin by saying that Sherry Jennings and Sean Grimm are absolutely excellent instructors; you can really tell they care about keeping you safe. Sherry's enthusiasm and passion for motorcycling and teaching were amazing. She has a very vibrant way of teaching that easily holds your attention. Both Sherry and Sean were super helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. They WANT you to succeed and they're beyond great at what they do. That being said, it would be nice if the class sizes could be smaller. Our class was 16 riders. On the range, we had both instructors present, but I felt like if there had been fewer riders, there would have been more room for individualized help and feedback. I want to be very clear that this is a critique of the WMST class itself and NOT a fault of the instructors in any way--the instructors truly did their absolute best to help everyone and spent extra time with the people who needed it most while still being attentive to everyone. Having more time on the range would also be helpful for nailing skills down. The bikes seemed to be well-maintained (take with a grain of salt since I only rode two). I liked that we got to pick what style of bike we wanted to ride. I felt extremely lucky with my classmates; everyone was super kind and supportive of each other, which was awesome! Honestly, a big highlight of this experience for me was the other wonderful people taking the course alongside me--to say they were great would be an understatement. *** End of review, advice below *** I have literally zero experience with motorcycles and was lucky enough to pass my permit exams first try. FOR ALL MY FELLOW COMPLETE BEGINNERS, PLEASE TAKE MY ADVICE!! This is a whole new skill you're learning and you absolutely need to set yourself up for success! *Your course includes the Champ U NEW RIDER online course, at the BARE MINIMUM you need to complete the portions outlined in the email. But don't stop there. COMPLETE THE WHOLE ENTIRE ONLINE COURSE **BEFORE** YOUR IN-PERSON COURSE! You really need to set yourself up for success with the book learning, especially if you don't have access to practice with a motorcycle. Even if you have previous experience, I would still recommend completing the entire online course because you want any misconceptions corrected before they possibly hurt you. The online course covers a lot of great stuff, there's really no reason not to do it (it's free!). Plan ahead and start it early because it takes a while to get through everything, but this is a lifelong skill and I promise you it's totally worth it! *ENGAGE IN CLASSROOM DISCUSSIONS!!! PAY ATTENTION DURING CLASSROOM PORTIONS! Show the instructors that you are listening by engaging with the discussions! IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, ASK! The instructors are super friendly and are more than happy to explain anything you're wondering about. *Watch videos of the permit test on YouTube so you know what to expect *Take deep breaths and try to relax! Watch what everyone else is doing and see how everybody is making mistakes. IT'S OK! That's part of learning! It helps your confidence when you realize that pretty much everyone else is struggling and learning too! If you don't pass the first time, don't beat yourself up. A friend wanted to get his motorcycle license so I decided to take the class with him. We took the 3 day "Learn to Ride" class with WMST in Auburn. This class is the first of two classes to get the motorcycle endorsement. Passing the Learn to Ride class gives you the permit, allowing you to legally ride and practice riding for six months but with some restrictions (not riding with other passengers or at night among other things). Passing the returning rider course gives you the actual endorsement that does not have any restrictions. The Auburn classroom location is next to the Johnny Rocket's and across the Dave & Buster's at the Outlet Collection Mall. Day 1 was on Friday evening and consisted of a couple of hours of learning safety rules, myths vs facts, tips, and laws of riding motorcycles in the classroom. Day 2 started off on the range where we rode the motorcycles provided by the class and learned the basics of riding. In the afternoon, we went back to the classroom to learn the rest of the material and then took the written test. Day 3 was on the range where we continued practicing our riding abilities and then ended with the riding exam. The written exam consisted of 50 multiple choice questions (mostly common sense questions) and you need an 80% to pass. The riding exam consisted of 5 riding exercises to test basic riding abilities. Now onto the class itself: it is meant for beginners and those with no motorcycle riding experience, but the instructors moved quickly and skipped a couple of things that I thought would've been important to tell students in case they have no knowledge about motorcycles. Extremely simple things like how to know if a bike is too big for you, how to shift gears, and how to properly hold the handles without getting wrist pain. I learned a good amount of the basics from asking other riders because our instructors didn't teach us for whatever reason. It's a class where they let you go and figure things out on your own and they jump in when you need it. I like that but I'd also appreciate knowing how to do some things to help accelerate our learning. At some points the instructor was more interested in telling jokes than actually teaching the class which wasn't ideal. I never planned on buying a motorcycle or riding one on the road, but I wanted to try something new and this was an educational class that got me out of my comfort zone. I passed both exams which I'm happy about but the class itself wasn't the best experience. The instructors were interesting characters but not the best educators. Some other things I wish I would've known: - You can use hiking boots as your riding boots. This would've prevented me from buying motorcycle boots just for the course that I won't use again. - They have helmets that you can borrow if you don't have one. Again, I bought a helmet just for the course. - Read the motorcycle operating manual before the class so terminology is not new to you if you're not familiar with riding. read more

Yes, student drivers need to learn to stay on their side of the road EXCEPT WHEN THEY RISK HITTING SOMEONE! WMST has low business ethics in dealing with consumers. It is highly advised to read reviews from various social media sites (such as this) as well as find their complaints and reviews made with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) before spending your time and money with WMST. A large percentage of reviews are 1 and 2 stars citing bad business ethics and poor experiences. If you do elect to use WMST, be cautioned that they will gladly take your money and find a reason to dismiss you (the student) based on any policy violation and offer no recourse or compromise. They do state their stringent adherence to policies so YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED - it can be assured they may work to find a policy violation for any variety of things (again, read customer reviews and testimonials as these violations may be objective or subjective) and you will have completely forfeited your substantial fees as well as wasted your time, but will not have gained any material training value in return. Also, WMST seemingly doesn't hold their Instructors to the same policy standard as students, i.e., it's acceptable for an Instructor to arrive late to the start of class but that's something that their policy states will absolutely be a forfeitable offense for a student. Wandered around for an hour looking for "green roof building". No pictures on website of building, no phone number to call at 7:00am, and then when I finally found the group I was too late and they turned me away and JACKED MY MONEY after promising to reschedule. Our family (4 of us) took moto classes here with Misha and Eli at the Auburn location. We took the intermediate course (for our permits) and the next day scheduled for the endorsement course. They did a fantastic job with helping each of us as we all learn differently. Many times there were things that I was struggling with (being such a new rider) when the rest of my family were breezing through it, but both of the teachers were super encouraging, professional, and patient with me! We had 16 enrolled in the class and they were still able to take time individually to help each of us with our struggles. We have been here for training classes on several different occasions and we have never had a problem with finding the classroom, range location, etc. Anytime we had questions and had to leave a message, they would get back with us quickly. Recently, when attending classes here, there were a few times that students had to be turned away because THEY DID NOT FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. Please don't get upset with the teachers when you don't take the time to read the information they sent you. In closing ... we absolutely loved taking the classes with Misha and Eli. We have taken 3 moto classes already this year, and are planning to take more advanced and private coaching classes. Highly recommended! read more

It's a scam. I took it last year. They deliberately set the class up to fail by exhausting them with drill after drill, very few breaks, making students push motorcycles to turn them around, maybe 10-16 times early on the first day, which absolutely exhausts the class physically, which of course, affects concentration. There were also a number of very experienced students in class, who had ridden for years, who all passed, while only a few beginners passed after completing 10 hours of classroom lecture, passing the written test, and 10 more hours of drills. There was a less than 50% pass rate, if that. This is a reflection on the instruction, not the students. The grueling drills, on the second day, began with no review of the skills learned the previous day. The cones are faded orange and green, tiny. Why not use bright colored cones? it's so easy to buy bright colored cones, or even spray paint the tiny ones, to make them more visible. Why not use a simulated stop sign, made of cardboard for God's sake, to emulate something slightly closer to the actual conditions the course claims to be training students for? It's absurd, and apparently these courses remove students with regularity, to create the need to retake course after course. It's a money maker between the few schools and the DMV to make a wad. They also scrub the internet for negative comments. Not a challenge when you work hand in hand with the government to make money. It's all pretty gross. You look around to find one student missing, then another, then another. They never explain this. Those students aren't quitting folks, they are, after paying for an entire course, told to leave. Not gently either - they tell the student they are a "danger to others". It's messed up. read more

Tester looked miserable and was condescending during my drivers test, I constantly felt rushed, and we were overcharged 15 dollars. Once I got back to the lot she just said I failed, said I needed to use more signals or something, then walked back inside the building without a care in the world. My mom walked in to get a clearer picture of what I did wrong and my tester was like "can I help you?" as if she has never seen me or my moms face before. Really?? Does she have memory loss? Truly amazing. Tester would be a good fit for a licensing office, where everyone has a stick up their ass and acts like basic clarifying questions are a waste of their time. Definitely one of those places that fails you a few times to suck you dry, until they are satisfied with the amount of cash they stole from you, and just pass you for doing nothing different from the last test. Do not waste money on this place, I beg you. I wish I could give 0 stars. Go to 911 for a drivers test, or if you live in everett and you dont mind the drive, go to Bal Driving School in lynnwood, that place has 5 stars for good reason with an actual friendly human being as an instructor. read more

I would suggest defensive driving for teens. This was a waste of money for my teen. Defensive driving was a much better program.

I don't recommend this school. Especially if you have any sort of anxiety. I purchased the 6 lesson driver package, and met many different teachers at the time. Because throughout my lessons I experienced teachers that were pleasant, helpful, and professional, this set up my expectation for what was reasonable behavior. However, when I had a lesson with Cheri, she was condescending in her explanations and did not know how to handle a student panicking compared to the other teachers at the time. If anything, it brings out her temper. I hope it is not unreasonable to expect a drive instructor to explain things directly but respectfully, have enough experience to handle different situations without affecting the driver, analyze or have better intuition as to why certain actions were taken and how to correct that behavior. I don't expect much, just some respect and professionalism. read more

I signed up for a one day Motorcycle Endorsement class after taking the initial permit class with WMST. I had to cancel my class participation a day prior due to illness, and soon found out that I cannot reschedule due to the 10-day cancellation policy and I was indeed expected to pay the full cost of a new class to reschedule. The school endorses riding when unwell with this policy - hardly the right philosophy for a safety school. When I asked Kimberly, the coordinator, about this, and why I could not simply reschedule the class when I had no control over falling ill (let alone know about it 10 days prior), she likened the school to a rock concert and told me that "Billy Eilish does not refund you a concert ticket if you don't go". She also stated that :we don't know if you were really sick or just decided not to show up". Finally she offered a discount from a future class but was unwilling to put in writing. Instead, she sent me an invoice for a new class cost that she demanded I pay the same day in order to benefit from this "exception" - without the opportunity to even schedule the class yet. I cannot endorse a school with a cancellation policy that encourages people to show up sick or unsafe to ride or lose the money. There is no safety in that. It does not help to have rude office staff either. This is disappointing, as the instructors in my original class did a nice job and are victims of the school policies. read more

James Winston was extremely informative in regards to riding technique and overall motorcycle safety. For the skills portion of the course it was pouring rain and 38 degrees so we were all pretty miserable. The one thing that made it tolerable was James offbeat and self deprecating humor. We took the "Learn to Ride" motorcycle training course in Auburn. One of us has been riding for 30 years and the other for less than 3 hours. The instructors were passionate about saftey and teaching the essential skills. They do not "teach the test," which I really respect them doing. They teach the skills to survive and enjoy the ride. Students at our class were mostly men in their 20's , with about 1/3 women and a couple older folks. Instructors were attentive to the the wide range of student capabilities. I believe 100% of our class passed both the written and riding Permit tests. And there was only one rider crash. read more

I put my daughter through here when she was 15 1/2. She loved it. We bought the premium package she she had free test retakes and she said that made her feel really good, some other kids had to pay to retest. Last week my daughter had to follow me into Seattle. She's such a great driver!! Thanks GoWMST. I got a call back about 6 months later to check on my daughter. They are still honoring her follow up drive even though it's been almost a year. The premium package comes with a follow up coaching session after six months with her license. They come to Jackson High so there was never anywhere she needed to go after school. My son took a teen drivers ed course through WMST and for that portion I would leave a 4 star review. Unfortunately, there seems to be issues with record keeping. One of my sons drives was not logged properly so he had to redo it. My son also took the DOL knowledge skill test through WMST in October and passed. However, when we called to book his driving skills test in June they had no record of him completing the knowledge test and he will have to retake that as well. For what I paid for the Platinum package (which I got since my son has test anxiety) I would expect far better record keeping. My son has actually had to do extra tests because of their poor tracking. I was going to sign my daughter up for WMST before I found out their second mistake. This place is hands down horrible! They are all about money. Save yourself time and especially money and go to Pudget Sound Safety. WMST is all about money especially Stacy aka Karen who likes to call consumers that complain about their rates to the Washington State Attorney general's office STINK! Last year I took the test for my permit to ride a motorcycle as an alternative form of transportation because of the rising cost of gas, I signed up for one of WMST's courses to get my permit which I paid over $300 for which was fine, but at the end of the course my nerves got the best of me and I failed the test. I failed the test and blame no one but myself, but when I had to pay another $75 to restest with WMST this is where my complaint stemmed from. See money was tight for me, as it was for a lot of other people, so I struggled to understand why after spending over $300 to take the course I had to pay another fee, why couldn't one retake be included, this was my complaint to the WA AGO. Fast forward to April of 2023 where I now need to take the course and test for the motorcycle endorsement test, and WMST's course is the closest and works best with my schedule, so I proceed to book the class. Today, Stacy with WMST decided she should call me, so I can defend my complaint from last July, and question rather or not WMST was right for me. Well after 30 minutes and Stacy asking repeatedly if WMST was right for me, I hung up on Stacy as I don't think I should have to defend myself when I complain against their company regarding their costs with the Washington State AGO. A program that is supposed to provide a safe space for consumers to voice their complaints against businesses, apparently it's not that safe. the costs to consumers are excessive and the public is at the mercy of these programs and that's not fair. read more

Do Not take the Training class in WMST especially the Intermediate course, CEO said you need at least 1 year consistent performance in order to take that class. Otherwise they will kick you off from the class. The instructors are RUDE and IMPOLITE as well which will definitely make driving or biking a nightmare! I took this course back in September. I am active duty military and do not have a Washington license. The course itself was great, my instructors were attentive and informative, the one Star is due to the misrepresentation when signing up for the course. My state will accept any MSF (motorcycle safety foundation) course for permit and licensing. I found the WMST on the MSF website and subsequently signed up and agreed to their no refund policy. Upon arrival to my course which was over an hour away I was informed the class was not and MSF course. I elected to take the course anyway as not to blow $350 on nothing and hoped to figure it out after. I had to pay an additional $80 due to having an out of state license. Initially I tried to figure it out with my home state but it didn't work out and they sent my paperwork back. Which leads me today where I tried to transfer to a WA license so I could have the motorcycle permit and I was informed that the scores were never sent to the dmv because I did not have a license number. Finally after all this I called WMST and I was told they see I took the class and passed but cannot upload the scores because it has to be within 3 days of the class. Where did they send my scores when I paid them an extra $80 for an out of state license? All in all this expirence has been one​ frustration after another just to have me out $350 and having to start from the beginning paying for more classes. I hope this helps keep someone from making the same mistake as I did. There are MSF courses that issue a card at the completion of the course this is not one of them even if it's listed on the MSF website. There is a good chance WA does not offer MSF courses and this is the equivalent. If you don't have a WA license don't bother they upload the scores direct to the Department of Licensing so you can't get them otherwise. read more

I do not remember all of there names but Jim was one of my instructors. Great guy, great with instructions, very low key and had a way of making the students feel at ease with the training and testing. Thaks to all of you. I've taken two courses from this school; the 2 wheeler (basic rider endorsement qualifying and the 3 wheeler course). For the 2 wheel, one of the instructors were a total d bag and had zero patience. It was like being a military soldier. The only prerequisite to take this class was to know how to ride a bicycle. If you take this course, do some studying before hand about basic bike operations, parts, and concepts (I.e what and where is the clutch- how does using it affect your motorcycle), have tough skin (lots of yelling and makes learning for the faint of heart difficult), and be a fast learner (they don't give you a lot of time to practice each maneuver). Missing two or more of those and you'll be miserable. Many people did not return the 2nd day of the course. Mixed feelings. Issues mainly with instruction tactics. The 3 wheeler course was very different. Instructor made things easier to understand. They relate many concepts back to 2 wheels. Which is okay now for me since I took the 2 wheel course. If you've never ridden one, could be hard to understand. But many concepts can also be related back to a car. They don't tell you this probably on purpose for the sake of mindset. Be well versed in general defensive driving skills. Smaller class sizes as it's a new segment in their school. Quick and easy 1 day. Do not offer any refresher or advanced courses. Would highly recommend this course if you're interested. Since their program restructuring, the riding courses seem to be better mapped out for the rider. But of course it comes with $$ attached. What use to be a single 2 day endorsement qualifying class (BRC) for $350, is now 2 separate courses. Permit qualifying for either 325 or 225 (based on length, 1 or 2 day, and current skill) and endorsement qualifying 225. Result is an increase of 100-200 dollars. Probably increases student experiences but is definitely a milking tactic. Office staff is garbage. Unknowledgeable about their equipment. You can tell they don't ride themselves. Will never call you back with requested information. Rude tones in emails. Overall bad communication and customer service skills. Definite Karens work in their office. read more

I have some more experience than the boys and attended the streets class 101. It took the 2 day training to the next level, so much information for a rider that though he had it under control. Wow was I suprised at what I didn't know. Looking forward to more classed and highly recommending anyone I know to put your ego behind and listen to what they have to say...It might just save your life or some you care for. read more

I took a motorcycle skills test here and the way this school is run is a joke. The instructor (his name was Brent) showed up 40 minutes late to the test and did not apologize for his late arrival. The pavement that was utilized for the test was uneven and had potholes and debris. He did not set up the tests beforehand so we were also left waiting for a long time between each test. It was very frustrating to take a test here and they charge you a ridiculous amount ($75) to take a test that has only two runs. I ended up taking my test somewhere else and had a much better experience. I paid way less for the exam too. WMST is a trashy place. read more

So upset that I have been recommending this place for so long. I took my motorcycle endorsement training here in 2013. The class at that time was decent. The instructor was a little goofy, but he was fine. It allowed me to get on a motorcycle and learn how to start shifting gears and the basic controls, and it allowed me to get my motorcycle endorsement. Most of my motorcycle skills development really came after getting my endorsement, which you need in order to practice on any motorcycle outside of class (or to test ride bikes at dealerships, or ride one home legally). The class back then, was only $125, a price that I felt was well-worth it. Fast-forward to now, after the bullshit money grab the state decided on (same exact training, but now roughly $550 for it all) in 2020. I sent my wife to this course this year so she could get her endorsement and start riding with me. She had a decent experience with her 2-day permit qualifying course. But she just got home with the worst experience with her endorsement qualifying course. Her instructor, Misha Stolejdova, singled her out and removed her from the driving course without giving her any time to get used to the new bike she was on. (Meanwhile, the other student who kept stalling and killing his bike there, did not). She said that she was spending too much time looking at her controls while she was driving, instead of on the road. I don't care how much experience you have, when you first get on a new bike, they take some time to get used to, and when you are a new rider especially, it is SAFER to glance at the controls than to not! She got asked to leave the course because of this within an hour into the driving practice. Absolutely ridiculous. I remind you: no endorsement, means no practical motorcycle ownership! And no refunds? She was not even given the opportunity to continue practicing, even though a class environment is really the only safe place for someone without their own motorcycle to improve on their skills. The instructor told her that she would have to take the entire course again--that one day was $225! She passed the written test too, so she should NOT have to take the entire course again, and she should have been allowed to keep practicing, since she paid for it. Will never recommend this place again so long as they employ instructors like that. What a joke. read more

I'm a new rider. I chose to take this course to be able to go out and ride with my husband safely. Shalonda is the perfect instructor for beginning riders. She is passionate and experienced. She instills a sense of confidence that makes for a very pleasant introduction to the craft. She positively reinforces all of her lessons and gives constructive feedback instead of being condescending or overly critical. She's very professional and personable. She made my experience so rewarding. I feel comfortable in moving forward with this fantastic hobby. This is the only place we'll take our kids. We are about to have our third go through their class. Worth the money and the drive from Mill Creek. Better than the other driving schools-we've used three others in the area. online drive scheduling -text and/or reminders and updates -fantastic communication -first class is a teen/parent class -instructor keeps their attention, funny, interesting, insightful -you can do the knowledge test and driving test there -you can do the drive test in their car (small fee) -great, lifelong information without all the fluff assignments Cons: -the classes include some foul language After taking this course, our kids passed the driving test the first time. My instructors were John and Lori. They were awesome! I took the Basic Rider Class for my motorcycle endorsement. I was really impressed with the instructors, the venues, and the course overall. It was actually really FUN too! The entire course just had a mellow, fun vibe to it which was unexpected. I took the BRC course at another school also and in my opinion, WMST was loads better, mainly due to the quality of the instruction. I was nervous about riding (which is part of why I didn't pass my first class) and the instructors were super helpful. The theory classes have been ok but let me tell you about my experience with the driving lessons/customer service. Every driving lesson my son had the instructor was late, we were patient because it wasn't much (20 min or so) it was annoying because I'm a punctual person and like to have respect for my time the way I have it for others. Today my son had an appointment, 27 minutes after the appointment time he went in while I waited in the car to ask what was going on, only to be ignored and just looked at by one of the owners and his instructor (the same person) Chris and being told by the receptionist that he was going to have to reschedule and hear this, PAY FOR A CANCELLATION FEE! as we are leaving the parking lot and my son is telling me all this I'm obviously just getting angrier the more I hear, I used my entire lunch break waiting in the parking lot for this guy Chris to show up only to be treated like this. I called the office, no answer, called the other office and spoke to a lady named Brooklyn, great customer service on her end and unfortunately still no answer about why this person didn't have the decency to call to cancel, reschedule, talk to my son or show any respect for our time. They waived the fee (wasn't expecting any less since we showed up on time) and they rescheduled the appointment, like I said, Brooklyn did great but the whole experience is horrible! Someone needs to learn some BASIC customer service skills. read more

Signed up for a class at the Auburn location. Its located somewhere inside the super mall and the instructions said to enter the main entrance, but the none of the mall doors were not open. No signage or direction at the site. I called immediately trying to see if there was someone who could be helpful. Voice message said they were open at 9:30am Saturday (I call just after 8am). No call back...I emailed them two days later to find out why there was no reply and asked for them to book for another weekend and suggested they provide better signage or a person out front to make it clear where to go...they didnt take my suggestion and offered a 10% off my next class...not a refund or a future class. I will not ever use this business again and suggest they improve the instructions and add some sandwich board or something with a clear sign where to go at the mall since the mall doesnt open until 11am. read more

Awesome place to take your driving test. The driving instructor is awesome for easing my anxiety with his calming demeanor.

Very horrendous place. I went in for a drivers test and my instructor was a lady. We go in, I fill in the information form. She elaborated upon what would be covered during the test. There were no issues during the test but hold your horses now. After the test was done, she grades my sheet and hands me the paper with a score of 82. As I was about to take the paper she then said "oh wait I forgot one thing" and proceeds to cross the 82 out and replaced it with a 78. Two weeks later, I take the test again and I get the same instructor. We pull out of the lot, and shortly after a few minutes I was instructed to go back due to speeding. Now here's the thing. This road was unknown if it was residential or not and the vehicles infront of me were traveling at a faster speed than I was. To be safe, I went in the middle so about 30mph and of course speed fluctuates in driving. It turns out this unknown road was a 25mph road. She also said I went the opposite way of the parking lot, although I took the same exit out of the lot last test and all the other cars take this exit. In conclusion, I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. Be smart about where you take your test. These guys milk you for your money. Keep in mind, each test is 50 dollars. On the other hand it's 39.99 at 911 driving, just shortly down the road. read more

If possible to give no stars I would. Clients who have paid in full for their services can't get their drive lessons scheduled because WMST is insufficiently staffed. It is at no fault of the customer that WMST can't provide the services the customer bought and paid for in full. You are told to schedule drives online but nothing is available. You then have to call the office. They hardly ever answer their phones and if you leave a message, no one ever returns your call. I tried to schedule the drive lessons so they can be finished over the summer and they have no availability. I finally got someone to answer the phone and when I was upset that there's no availability for a service I've already paid them for, they hung up on me and now won't answer my call. read more

Chris is a fantastic trainer. His humor and passion for motorcycles and safety were extremely helpful. I especially appreciated his hands-on approach for his Kickstart Course for those of us who never ridden a motorcycle before. I feel totally equipped to take the school's Rider's Basic Course. I highly recommend Chris's school and look forward to more training with him and his staff. read more
