The property is a treasure in and of itself. An oasis in the middle of a bustling metropolitan area and steps from 400 plus acres of groomed horse trails - no bikes! It is a fabulous place.

OLF was the right home for me and my horse Blu. He loved his big open stall and paddock and his turn out in lush pastures. The Farm has a really nice riding track, outdoor arena and round pen and is literally right across the street from Bridle trails state park--so easy to attend shows or clinics! While there is no covered arena for rainy winter days, I can say with all honesty that I never missed a day of planned riding due to rain. The park has tall trees which protect from the rain but still are wide open and bright. Dana and her crew take amazing care of all the horses. They have a huge herd that has 30+ acres to meander in and are fed on a track to make sure everyone has a place to eat and not be bothered. Having said that, horses will be horses and do hurt themselves from time to time. Dana keeps sufficient stall/paddocks available to use if a horse needs to come out of the herd for any reason. A young horse had torn the skin back on her knee requiring stitches. She broke her stitches open and Dana made extraordinary efforts to help with the care and treatment of the horse including installing a tether system in a stall. In the 3 barns I have been at, I have never seen an owner so personally involved and conscientious of a horses' well being. For the non-herd horses, turn out is all day for long hours not just a couple hours. Any reasonable request was met and accommodated. This is not a "show" barn although there are show horses there. Boarders are knowledgeable and friendly and happy to join on a trail ride. There are a number of quality trainers available and with 50+ horses on the farm, all the vets and farriers go there. Dana even built a new covered, flat area for vets and/or farriers to work out of the elements. No this is not the fanciest place but it was honest, warm, caring and welcoming and not only felt like, but was Home for Blu and I. While we are loving and adjusting to our home in the sun, we will forever miss and be fond of our friends and time at Overlake. 100% recommend Overlake as a great place to board.

After a few years of happy learning alongside great friends in a nurturing environment and we sent our daughter off to Kindergarten with a full heart and a thirst for learning. April's Play School was a very peaceful place filled with laughter and respectful friends. A couple years following her final Pre K class, she decided to bring the same fun curriculum to an outdoor summer camp and invite older kids to join along as participants or even junior counselors. Our youngest joined in for a week of camp along with her cousins. They had an amazing time. It's so fun to know that the kids are just being kids (with supervision), in nature, making up games and stories, building forts or even doing a structured project like washing berries and making jam. They took hikes and collected bugs. They did kid stuff and got dirty and maybe a little sweaty and they just had a blast. I was thrilled to hear that Camp Roots was gearing up for a 6 week run this summer. I immediately signed my little one up for 3 weeks and my Freshman aged son up to participate in the volunteering program. I'm expecting the same old thing as last time: slightly dirty, extremely happy & tired kids, competing with each other to over share their accomplishments of the day with me over dinner. It's soul filling to drop the hyper academic stuff for a few weeks and watch the kids truly enjoy (fairly) unstructured summer play. Go Camp Roots!!!

Their instructors are very knowledgeable about different dance genres and their history. The facilities are clean and well-organized, and both locations have designated parking spots. The only downside is that it can get quite hot during classes, especially when we're moving quickly and there are many people. It would be even better if the windows were open or if there were fans to help circulate the air in addition to the AC. Overall, the instructors and classes are great--I can't wait to come back for more!

The waiting room is always clean and the staff periodically cleans the floors and bathrooms. They really do a good job at keeping things clean and orderly here for the students and parents. They do screen out the windows to the practice rooms, so it's difficult to see inside so the students have some privacy when learning their choreography, which I know my son finds comforting. He's more on the shy side and he gets self-conscious when we watch him practicing or learning the choreography. I feel like here, they bring out the confidence in him. Even though he's a little ashamed to show us his dance routine sometimes, he really enjoys dancing and never wants to miss a class. We even had to adjust his Taekwondo schedule so he can make it to dance class. I definitely recommend Eastside dance for kids and adults who want to learn to dance. If I have time, maybe I'll give it a go. Update: Our friend's son wanted to try hip-hop and he tried out the kid's class. He really enjoyed it! He said he definitely wants to sign up for the class and he's joining the Eastside Dance Family! YAY!

From the beginning, Beatrix fell in love with Gymnastics Connection. She has been doing gymnastics since she was 3, but all she remembers now is the Gymnastics Connection. She loves the open gyms, the instruction (cried when we couldn't afford two lessons a week, so I applied for scholarships), and she loves the coaches. After the spring showcase last year, she said she wanted to be a gymnast when she grew up. If I have obligations before or after class, Beatrix is able to sit with them an extra few minutes with a snack until I wade through traffic to get there. Above and beyond, one of the best experiences we have had in Seattle. From front desk (Stephanie Kyla) to Coach Maddy, Coach Megs, Coach Monica... stellar experience. They never turned their noses up to us when the credit card didn't go through. They made us feel like Beatrix belonged there as much as the other kids who don't need scholarships or second, third, fourth credit cards. We love you. We thank you. I wish I could give you guys so much more, but right now, all I can say is you made a positive difference in our lives. Thank you!

My family has adhered to the closures and restrictions very closely. When Gymnastics Connection announced that they would be running several week-long summer camps as well as daily-mini-mid-day camps we were excited but apprehensive. We really weren't sure how they would pull this off in an indoor, active environment. I spoke to the owner of the gym and was impressed with how they were reorganizing their space, program and activities to accomodate appropriate health standards. For various reasons, we decided to try it out. It was a RAGING SUCCESS. I was so impressed with how they truly went above and beyond to maintain the fun-social environment but also keep everyone healthy. In addition to what I now consider 'typical' precautions: check-in and check-out were done outdoors, there was a designated one-way system to move around the entire space and everyone followed arrows on the floor, new hypo-allergenic carpet, color-coded cubbies for students to store their things (which also look super cute), and staff constantly wiping down equipment between students using it. I did not see any kids come within 6 ft of each other because the entire class was taught in a way that allowed the kids to follow the social distancing guidelines without really having to think about anything other than listening to their coaches. During the closure, the gymnastic connection has also been running zoom classes. Its amazing how much they have been able to mimic the class without all of the gym equipment of the facility. At a time when life is upsidedown for my kids - it means the world to them to be able to connect with familiar coaches.

Other things we love: meal and snacks are prepared there and they use whatever is growing in the garden (and let families take the excess produce home too), many opportunities for parents and kids to get together during non school days, awesome child teacher ratio (smaller than state requirement), lots of outdoor play time (I love it and believe that's what kids need to thrive - be outside. I love seeing that my girl comes home with dirty clothes because of outdoor playing), loving teachers and staff who really take their time to understand the needs of your child and families.
